Devin: [walking in the shallows of a stream, enjoying the cooler night air and the moonlight] much better than the day heat..
Yazhi: [Tonight Yazhi felt restless, like there was still too much energy in her body that wouldn't allow her to go to sleep that night. After a quick stretch so she wouldn't pull anything or hurt herself she took off in a run, loving the night air as it swept her hair back. Running at night was more dangerous as she could easily step into a hole she didn't see and seriously injure herself but tonight the moon and stars cast enough light on the land that she wasn't worried. Tonight she took to the path that led down to a nearby stream, not expecting anyone else to be out and about.]
Devin walked slowly, enjoying his time and not finding any reason any reason to hurry back to the little hut he currently called home. The cool water ran around his legs, relaxing him more. He settled his horse body down into the water, letting it flow around his belly.. His ears twitched at the sound of another running. He lifted his head, turning them towards the source of the sound. Smiling a bit, he saw a lovely centauress running in his direction. "Well, hello!" He called out to her, standing slowly as he called out to her. "Out for a late night run?"

After a while Yazhi held her arms out and turned her face to the night sky, just loving the feel of running. It was her favorite activity and most everyone in her village knew it, she was notorious for trying to start races with other taurs that didn't care. A voice caught her attention though and her pace slowed, arms lowering back to her side as she looked to the stream. Oh! There was someone else out and about! He seemed friendly enough. The centauress trotted up to the stream, giving the male a friendly smile. "Hey there! I didn't think anyone else would be out right now. I am, I have too much energy to just go to sleep. Plus I love a good night run." She tilted her head slightly, looking him over. He was quite a cute one, but why was he in the river? "Enjoying a little soak?"
Devin smiled more once he saw how pretty the centauress was. Standing, he offered her a polite nod of his head, green eyes running over her, putting her looks to memory. She seemed nice enough, clearly friendly in her response. "Running sounds like a good way to burn some energy.. Swimming is a good way too." He grinned, hoping that he could maybe get to know her a little. "Why don't you join me? The water feels good, after the heat of a summer day. I really enjoy the water, and a good swim helps me relax. Maybe some company would do us both good. I'm Devin, by the way."
The young female couldn't help but think the other was quite fetching, finding a particular interest in his blond hair and the green clover on his arm that complimented his eyes. "I do enjoy swimming. Sometimes I wish I was a fish though, because I love being able to go fast and we centaurs aren't exactly built for being fast swimmers, we're runners! Swimming does take more work though...alright, I'll join you." With an energetic jump Yazhi splashed her way into the stream, smiling to herself about nothing in particular. She was enjoying having someone to talk to. "My name's Yazhi, nice to meet you." She replied after settling the splashing down.
Devin couldn't help but laugh a little to himself as the female splashed into the water near him. "Staying in the shallows keeps you safe from the water dragging you down too much.." he smiled charmingly, "It's a great pleasure to meet you, Yazhi. He paused for a moment. "That's quite a different name. Very pretty.. Much like the young lady who bears it." he gave her a playful wink. "Is it a common thing for you, not being able to sleep at night?" he began to wander down the stream a little, looking for water a nearby spot he knew more suitable for swimming.
Yazhi couldn't help but blush a little at the compliment, turning her face away a bit in an embarrassed fashion. She was friendly but she didn't usually get compliments like that; it made her unusually shy. "Thank you." The centauress walked beside Devin as he started forward, keeping his pace. "Not all of the time." She replied, blush gone and looking forward again to keep conversing. "Usually I'm active enough during the day to tire me out by night, but not today. What are you doing still up?"
Devin felt a little proud of himself, seeing the female's flattered reaction. "I wouldn't have said it if I hadn't meant it," he could feel the water deepening around his legs now, and knew they were growing closer to his goal. "I suppose it's a restless night all around, then.. I recently stopped travelling and made a small home near here. I'm not used to staying in one place for so long, I guess it feels unnatural to not be under the stars.. I like watching the night sky as I fall asleep." He stopped for a moment, the pair finally coming to a place where the river widened enough to give comfortable swimming room. Eagerly, the male strode forward, submerging himself up to his chest. Turning back towards Yazhi, Devin motioned for her to follow. "It feels great."
Oh gosh. Yazhi really didn't know how to take the compliments and her brain was scrambling for something to say back. It was rude not to say something equally nice back, right? "You're very nice." That was good, right? Yeah, it was good enough for now she supposed. She perked up a bit at the mention of travelling. "You used to travel? That's so awesome! I've lived here all my life, I think the farthest I've gone away from the village is a day and a half run from here. Why did you decide to stop?" Before long the water began to deepen and she felt it creep up her stomach. "It does feel great."
Devin was quite satisfied with the reaction he received from the female. She was obviously flattered. And him? A nice guy? That was great, much progress from getting slapped in the face or ran away from like he'd had before. He saw her instant interest in his travels, and felt more of a boost in confidence. She was wanted to hear him? Even better. "Well.. In all honesty.. I got a little lonely, travelling alone." he let himself relax in the water, trying to hide the fact he was a little embarrassed by his admittance. "I thought, since I'm all grown up now, I might try to meet someone... At least have a good friend."
"Hmm..." She mused for a moment, picking her hooves up off the riverbed so she could float a bit in the water and...pretend she was flying. Yazhi was, at times, a rather simple mare with simple interests. "I can see that. Being on the road by yourself would get lonely after a while. And seeing things you wish you could share with someone else but can't would be hard I bet." She smiled a little at him. "Well, I love having friends. I can't say I really have any close friends though, but I'm always looking to make some." At a thought her hooves found the riverbed again and she hopped a little in the water. "Speaking of neat things to show someone! Do you like birds?"
Devin had been letting himself float slowly down the river, quite content with his current situation. He listened to her musings, smiling a little. "Yes, I have seen many things that I would've liked to share with someone.. But there's not much of a point in regret, I think." He gave her his best smile, "I don't have very many close friends either. But it's always a good time." His ears perked up at her sudden standing and excitement. "Yes, I love birds. They're pretty things, aren't they? So free and full of song."
"I love birds too, they're probably my favorite things other than running. I especially love birds of prey. I take care of them when I see any injured ones and release them back to the wild when they're fully healed and sometimes raise orphaned chicks. The other day I found an owl nest and I like to watch them come and go at night. Want to see?"
Devin's ears perked up at the offer of seeing birds of prey. Especially owls.. young owls.. "That sounds like an amazing job you've found." The young male stood up, shaking the water from his coat. "I would love to see them.. It sounds quite wonderful. Birds of prey are really quite beautiful, aren't they?.. So focused and intense.."
Yazhi's smile widened. "Great! They're pretty active at this time of night, maybe we'll see one of the parents bring a vole back to the nest." The centauress excitedly made for the bank of the river, a little water resistance slowing her down but not stopping her. She paid no mind to the fact that her top was a little wet now as she was preoccupied with the feeling one gets when showing something special to someone else. "It's this way, not too far from here. If we run we'll disturb them." Yazhi began walking, unable to hide her smile. "Yeah, I love my job. Well, it's not really a job, I don't get paid for it, but it's something I enjoy doing."
Devin followed Yazhi out of the stream, "Oh, that would be exciting, wouldn't it?" He trotted up beside her, doing his best to be as quiet as he can. "I'll be quiet, I promise," he grinned at her. "So it's more of a hobby, like my travelling was? No real reason to wander, except for the simple pleasure of it?"
Yazhi tilted her head to the side in thought as she walked, enjoying Devin's company. "Yeah, I suppose you could say that. There's no real profit in what I do, it isn't beneficial to anyone other than the birds I care for. I suppose if anyone had like a pet bird or something and it got hurt or sick I could take care of it for them, but nothing really crucial. Besides, I have my own raptors I need to take care of." After a few minutes of walking she came to a stop, holding her arm out to the side to stop the other before looking up into a tree and pointing. "There's the nest, the chicks hatched about a week ago."
Devin froze as soon as she announced that they had arrived, squinting a little in the dark, trying to bring the little owlets into sight. "I don't see the point in always chasing after profet if it does nothing to make you happy.. I believe we busy ourselves too much thinking there are things we have to do, when we really should be doing what we want.." He smiled, watching the mother owl fly up to the nest with her night's catch. Her flight was full of grace.. It was no wonder his companion wanted to care for raptors. "They're beautiful, aren't they?.." he smiled at the female.
"If you have no desire for money then chasing after it is pretty pointless." Yazhi replied in a quiet whisper. "Riches come in many forms and it depends on the person." She looked over at the male with a happy smile. "Always, in everything they do. So...how far from the village is your new home?"

"I agree.. You speak with great wisdom," Devin paused for a moment. "Oh, my house isn't too far. It's maybe a ten minute walk from the village. I didn't want to be too far, in case I needed to find work or get supplies. I just wanted a little bit of peace still," his ears twitched a bit, turning to face her "Why do you ask?"
