They took no time at all to set up everything they need for the briefing before they head into the forest. Time is of the essence when it comes to searching for survivors lost in a large forest such as this. And having waited for more than three weeks, it is even more important that they don't waste anymore time.
Stepping up to a small pedestal, the six foot two man in his early sixties clapped his hands loudly to get everyone's attention. When everyone's eyes were on him, he began to introduce himself. "My name is Jeremiah, you can call me Jeremy." The group was just the right size for his voice to reach when he speak loudly, so he don't need to use a megaphone. "I am a close and long time friend of Kyou's, and I am the one who organized this search party."
"According to the villagers, Kyou departed from this village heading due north. So we will be heading in the same direction." He pulled a map from one of the pockets of his hiking vest before he continued. "I've marked down seven search grids on this map." Unfolding the map, he pointed to the seven areas he marked with a blue pen. "We will be divided into seven teams, each team will have four people and we will search according to our grids, all heading north. This is so we cover as much ground as possible."
Folding the map back up again, he motioned to a pile of supplies stacked up next to a black board. "You could pick up the map - two for each team at the supplies area over there later. Along with the following to aid you in the search."
One Lightweight portable tent Two compasses One lighter and a box of matches One hunting knife One Multitool Some Tinder Two flashlights A basic first aid kit A sewing kit Four bandanas A few fish hooks A survival guide for newbies
"Of course, if you brought along sufficient supplies, you could opt to drop a few things from your supplies package if you want to." Then from a utility belt on his waist, Jeremy pulled out a bright orange flare gun. "This is going to be the only way we could communicate between each team. When your team is in peril danger; when a man is down, fire a red flare and the rangers and villagers over here will come to your aid. You have six red flares, including the one already loaded in the gun, just in case. The green flare." He said the following parts more loudly as he lifted the green flare up. "Only use it when you had found Kyou!! This is important, DO NOT GO NEAR KYOU when you found him, even if he seemed like on the verge of death. WAIT FOR ME!!! I will head on over as fast as I could."
Even though he worries for Kyou's life, Jeremy also worries for the safety of the participants. He is the only one here that had went on fel hunts with Kyou before, and only he know for sure what to do if they really did found the fel essence with Kyou. Which he thinks is the most likely scenario right now.
"This is how you load the flares." Jeremy went on to demonstrate how to c**k the barrel open, taking out the red flare within and replacing it with another red one, then cocking it back in place. "To fire it, just c**k back the hammer here like this, then pull the trigger while aiming at the sky." He further demonstrated without actually pulling the trigger, then he gently clicked the hammer back.
"It's late afternoon now, only a few more hours until night. When it's dark, it's best to find somewhere to make camp. Do not wander around at night!! It's dangerous." He could not emphasize that enough in this case. Since he had already heard some stories from the villagers.
"Okay, now you can go and pick up your supplies. The team info is on the blackboard next to the supplies, you can depart into the forest when you're ready. And uhm... what else.?" Jeremy thought for a moment before speaking again. "Oh remember to bring lots of water! There's a well at the edge of the forest, you could fill up your bottles there."
"Stay safe everyone!! And God speed!"

Ah, but she'd wished they'd left at night! Sleeping on the bus during the night-time travel would have allowed them to be refreshed and ready during the day to search; but here they were, gathered at the edge of a very ominous forest, preparing to throw themselves to real or proverbial wolves as the sun began to touch the tops of the trees. A few hours of light at best, and then they'd have to sleep out here...
Finishing filling up some extra water skins along with the given canister, Alex drew in a deep breath and tried to swallow down the tight, unhappy feeling in her throat. She was a little disappointed Aphismet hadn't come, but after what everyone had been through with the Fel Virus incident and then Roux's madness, she wasn't even remotely surprised that the majority of Raevan owners wanted to stay well and clear of this mess. Closing her eyes, she delicately rubbed the knuckle of her index finger between her brows, an old habit that betrayed nervousness. What were they going to do if they didn't find Kyou?
Hell; what would they do if they did?
She felt a warmth on her shoulder, turning her head slightly. "I'll be okay," she murmured reassuringly.
"It always is in the end," Zul responded with gravity, "but the path there is rarely so comforting."
The woman smiled with a tired edge, tight and a touch of sadness. Her ward shouldn't have to say those words with such knowledge.
But the demon simply squeezed her shoulder and let her go, his piercing blue eyes immediately seeking out their party members for this adventure. The red-head was impossible to miss, just as much her blue-haired charge, and with as confident a smile as he could wear (which was surprisingly so, given the circumstance), he approached Doucette and Revontulet with open arms. "My ladies," he greeted them once in earshot, Alex yet lingering to triple-check supplies, "how fortunate that my journey be filled with the best and most beautiful of companions, mm?" His smile parted into a slight grin, the peek of his canines almost wolfish. "Now to do my best to not be so dazzled by such company."

Upon their arrival Doucette unfolded herself from the car with a few stretches and a mussing of her unfortunate curls. They’d not be looking better as time wore on, that was for certain. The packs were unloaded from the car with systematic silence, her and Harrison having gone through a number of conversation topics until the tension had gotten to be too much and she’d shut down entirely. At least a smile was given when she saw Revon get off the bus, seemingly untouched by the stress that ate away at the expressions of those around her.
Obviously she was simply too young to understand the gravity of the situation.
Obviously she shouldn’t have come.
Doe sighed as she shouldered her backpack and made her way over to the man divvying out supplies and assigning groups. The freckled skin paled slightly at the sound of her name next to Alex’s (certainly someone as important as Alex would be with someone less...bumbling than her, right!?) but her gaze sought the dark haired woman out all the same. Everyone was tense. If there was a mix up it would be revealed in due time, she didn’t need to make a fuss about it.
Zul’s approach and flirtatious words startled her somewhat, and his smile was certainly playful (and his body significantly larger than she remembered...), but the expression was somewhat dim, shadowed by the task that lay ahead. She too had a hard time returning an expression of delight though she managed something passibly happy. “Hello Zul,” Doucette replied with a blush, “I see growing bigger has only made your repertoire more fancy.”
The aurora, on the other hand, smiled with unrestrained happiness at being paired with the demon. His words were always lovely to listen to and understand and his accent was smooth and comforting. Plus, he was strong, of that much one could tell just by looking at him for a moment. “Zul,” she murmured, the ‘z’ sound elongated in a gentle hum as she drifted forwards and placed a hand on his upper arm. The approach seemed almost hug-like, but the situation didn’t seem to call for it, so she settled with a simple touch instead, fingers light as a butterfly upon his skin, cool and smooth.
“This is your guardian?” the moonstone inquired, having heard about Alex either from Doe or the demon, she wasn’t quite sure. Wings lofted curiously, catching the light that filtered through the trees.
Doucette, for her part, hovered awkwardly near the supplies, wanting to help Alex with things but knowing there was little she could do with the cast. “Is there anything I can help with?” she asked anyway, not wanting to seem rude. She wasn’t even sure the woman would remember her from so many years ago. How formal or informal should she be in such a situation?

The demon cast a warm smile to Doucette, mollified by her blushing response. He wouldn't explain his home schooling or the mess that it ended in, not with their current situation fairly dire, so instead, he simply bowed his head. "I do my best to express fondness of worthwhile company." Zul would have continued to praise the freckled lady, but Revontulet approached and rested her dainty fingers upon his dark skin, drawing his attention in a polite, but protective manner.
"Revontulet," he greeted the aurora with her full name, yet still enjoying the way it rolled off his tongue with a soft growl on the 'R.' Lifting the arm not held, he rested his hand over hers, gentle and reassuring; it was as close to a hug as they'd get just then. "You are well?" he murmured softly, squeezing the hand with equal measure. There was no reason to forego consideration when that was the entire purpose of their presence. To the question, he glanced over to the dark-haired woman and nodded, a small flicker of pride in his smile. "Yes, my woman, Lex."
"Alex, if you please, Zul only gets away with that because it was charming when he was younger." She stuck her tongue out at him before smiling, her glance brief but appraising to the moonstone. At Doucette's approach, she handed her one of the water skins she had brought, though her eyes quickly flit to the cast the other wore. "--if there's anything to be carried on a belt, maybe, but I don't want to exacerbate whatever happened here." She gave the red-head a sympathetic smile, having no idea what caused the injury but having had enough of her own to not pry if the information was not immediately offered.
And to keep with her own ward's act of consideration, she took Doucette's free hand in her own and gave her an affectionate squeeze. "It's good to see you. Your Revontulet - " the name came out slightly accented, sounding more like Ray-vun-too-lay, " - is stunning! I only wish I had more time to admire and ask how you're both adjusting. I'm grateful you're both here." She didn't handle the drop-offs, but she was pretty certain that the moonstone was yet young. At least Zul was there, as he seemed to do well with the younger Raevans.
"All we can do now is get started." Letting Doucette go, she rearranged her own carefully set gear upon belt and back. "It's not getting any lighter."

The frei’s delicate wings fluttered in something of a shivering pattern as he said her name, quivering ever so slightly upon her back as they drifted in and out. His pronunciation of her name was better than music to her ears and the smile she graced him with showed that she was pleased with his use of all the syllables. Truly, it was a bit of a shame to her when people shortened her name so drastically. Doucette was rather fond of calling her Ren and Anya had given her the nickname Revon, but the full lilt of Revontulet secretly delighted her.
“I am well, yourself?” she replied to the demon, her eyes drifting to the hand that was placed over her own before it made its way back to his own. “The bus ride was nice. I met a new raevan and I spoke with some friends.” In truth she was bursting to tell Zul about Iorek, the new frei she’d met who had felt like her, but now didn’t seem the time and she didn’t want to act the impetuous child she really was. So many people had shot her looks suggesting their displeasure with her presence – she didn’t need the sigel feeling the same way and having an excuse to enforce her return home.
Doucette easily shifted the pack she carried on her left shoulder so that it swung down to hang on the cast and her good arm could grab anything of importance. She’d practiced most of the night before, ensuring that if she was going to be a hindrance at least she was going to be a well-functioning one. If anything needed carrying or retrieving, she’d take it. Just call her the pack mule of the trip! “Ah,” the redhead said, waving her free hand with a dismissive snort before continuing, “I was doing a neighbour a favour and had a tree fall on me. I’m supposed to get it off in the next day or so...so it should be fine. Just bad timing with everything.”
The compliments towards her charge made the woman smile, but an unhappiness flickered through her blue eyes as it only seemed to remind her just how young the girl was – and how she shouldn’t have come. Doe had replayed their short argument in her head so many times but she’d never found a way to put her foot down. To make sure her darling stayed out of harm’s way.
“Yes, of course!” the redhead replied, eagerly picking up anything that could be carried and shuffling it onto her back. “There will be plenty of time to catch up later. When the doctor is safe on the bus with us.”

The demon's eyes relaxed into content crescent moons at the Frei's reception of him and the use of her name; it seemed waste to not use a name that sounded as pleasing as Revontulet did, and as such, nicknames seemed unnecessary unless in need of quick attention. "I am pleased to see you, and well otherwise, thank you." His expression was drawn into interest at her next words, delicately readjusting the moonstone's hand on his arm so that it encircled his bicep from beneath, allowing him to float with her as a gentleman might. "That's wonderful! Who do you call friend? Perhaps we share some, hm?"
And in response to Doucette's misfortune, Alex could hardly bite back the grin that formed. "Goodness, you sound like me. At least it's not long term." She still recalled their first meeting and the red-head's unfortunate blunder into the closet; she was unsurprised that the woman's misfortune extended beyond such things.
But her expression softened, and with a faint smile, she tilted her head towards the yawning expanse of the darkening forest. "Perhaps when we retire for the night, so we might talk of good things in this less-so time. Shall we?" Glancing to the two Raevans and briefly catching Zul's eye, she nodded to him subtly and readjusted her pack, holding one of the compasses against her palm and starting towards the line of trees at an even pace. "I think we can quickly cover the closest part of our quadrant, since Kyou would have made his presence known if he was so close. That way, we can sleep close to the edge of the forest and use the entirety of the day to progress."
He was hunting a fel essence, Jeremy had told her. The last thing she wanted to do was fall prey to whatever had delayed Kyou, in the dead of night.
Patting the hand he'd placed against his own arm, the Sigel began to lead Revontulet after their Guardians, mindful to stay near. Zul was beginning to have a very disquieting feeling at the approach of the forest, something that made his stomach feel uncomfortably heavy. It would be a challenge to keep their minds at focus without being consumed by the oppressive air. It wouldn't stop him from trying, however, and he wore his archaic smile as they advanced upon the trees, hoping the journey would not be as detrimental to his friends and loved ones as it had been to Kyou.

Before they had advanced too far into the trees, there was a panting noise behind the troop, the soft inhale and exhale of breath, the sound of someone rushing up behind them. That was the only sound, though. There was no rustling of grass, no footsteps. It was silent save for the breathing, but if the travelers weren't paying close enough attention to themselves, it might have passed for the general chorus.
"W-wait!" came the raspy cry, "Wait, I beg you, wait!"
Behind the group of women and their solitary guardian man, there was a another half formed figure. It was Eiry, his wispy hair as wild as ever, a look of worry and relief on his face as he hailed the group before him. He was dressed in a light poet shirt, laced up underneath the neck into a neat bow, and above that was wrapped a mismatching fisherman's vest he stole from Isi's closet because the vast amount of pockets seemed like they would be useful, as well as the insulation and lining within it. He had a cravat tied around his neck as well, which spoke volumes about his determination to stay true to his outdated fashion sense despite his efforts to be modern, and just above that bounced a pair of red reading glasses on a chain looped around his neck. They weren't the best clothes for going outdoors, but there was evidence that he had made an effort. He had a little hunting cap with the flaps on his head as well, its brim keeping the sun out of his eyes as he looked at the group as pleadingly as he could.
If anything could be said about Eiry, it was that he was definitely putting forth the effort. Over his shoulder was slung one of Isi's backpacks with what he considered necessary items for the rescue mission, including but not limited to, a book of poetry by A.E Housman, useless save for the fact that it was Eiry's sole companion. He had thought to pack things like glow sticks, a utility knife, a useless hair brush, a change of shirts, a handkerchief, a first aid kit, water, and sunscreen, which he currently had smeared onto his pale cheeks in a rush.
After rushing through the grass as quickly as his flaming wings would push him, keeping himself intangible so as not to snag on anything as he passed, he had finally caught up with one of the groups. He had fallen asleep on the bus on the long ride over, but he had not been sitting inside with everyone else. He was snuggled up on top of the bus with the luggage, a secret stowaway, hidden through his abilities by burying himself under the luggage itself. However, he had fallen asleep on the way over, and he had only managed to wake up when all the groups were filing away in different directions. Panicking, he picked up his stuff, and ran towards the first group he could see, hoping that he could find his brother.
He had heard through Isi that something terrible had happened to Kyou the moment that Isi packed up his things to leave for a two week stint at the Lab in order to help around quietly behind the scenes, and since then, Eiry had been fretting quietly at work, distracted by his worried thoughts about the doctor. At length, he heard from Isi at the Lab that Rivener was going to be leaving on the hunt for the doctor along with many other raevans and guardians who would have volunteered for the rescue effort, and Eiry saw his chance. The doctor was important to him in more ways than one. Besides being the figure which gave him this second chance at life, his rebirth as a raevan, Dr. Kyou had also been an incredibly prominent figure for both his own and Isi's health. He was always cheery when Isi and he went to help at the lab and Eiry would chat with him for long stints while he worked in the garden. He was more than just a doctor. He was Eiry's friend, and the friend of many others as well! He absolutely HAD to help find him!
So now, there he was, a minty thin young man, panting from the rush, a look of worry and determination on his face. It was too late to go to any other group, he figured. He would have to stay with this one. Even if it meant....Eiry gulped inwardly....Being in the same group with Zul.
"Please," he panted, looking mostly towards Alex, whom he knew would remember her friendship with him, and then to the other strangers whom he did not recognize, "Allow me to lend you my eyes...! I want to be of use! I want to help!"

At the readjustment of her hand into a posture more befitting a ballroom than a forest, the frei leaned her shoulder lightly into his, always craving the additional contact with others but attempting to refrain from being overly physical. “I spoke with Cesc for a while about amusement parks. Have you ever been to one?” Ren looked at the demon expectantly, hovering just a few inches shorter than him. The aurora had a tendency to not float at a single height, adjusting herself according to the person and situation either deliberately or subconsciously; she was never overly short though.
“Oh, and I spoke with Luka. He is a damsel in distress. I hope his group will be ready to rescue him.” Although she was speaking more than she usually did, the words were slow and careful, deliberately selected so that those listening felt that she didn’t chatter, but neither did they feel she spoke too slowly. “The new raevan I met was Iorek,” she breathed, her voice taking on a quality of awe and excitement, “He feels like me, Zul.” The aurora’s fingers gave the sigel’s arm a gentle squeeze to emphasize.
Doucette did not mind any grins or possible laughter at her expense. She was often getting herself into awkward situations and ending up with some injury or stupid story to tell. Often she even ended up with both. At this point she felt pretty mobile despite the cast and she was certain that even if it somehow managed to come off out here in this strange place it wouldn’t be a problem.
“Just tell me where to go and how high to jump,” the redhead said with enthusiasm after Alex laid out the plan. It would come as no surprise to the others that the woman was an utter failure at directions and that camping had never been her forte. That wasn’t going to stop her from being the best pack-mule slash direction-follower slash whatever-else for the entirety of the search and rescue.
Sticking close to Alex and letting Ren drift along chatting happily with Zul, it took a moment for the guardian to realize that someone was calling out to them. Curiously she turned to see the wispy image of another sigel racing after them and despite herself her lips popped into a little ‘o’ of surprise.
Why was he asking them to wait? They had everyone in their party, didn’t they? Doe didn’t remember another name on the board for their team.
At the request to join them the woman cast questioning eyes to Alex. It wasn’t a problem with her whether the other male joined their team, but it also didn’t really feel like her call to make seeing as how she neither knew this raevan nor was she the ranking guardian in the group so to speak.
“Who is he?” Revontulet asked Zul softly as the other addressed his woman. He was exceptionally...minty.

Zul's expression lit at both the closeness and the words that she shared with him, his smile warming in earnest. "Cesc is one of the very best friends you could ask for," he praised the stag despite his lack of presence, "very polite, warm and a good soul." He couldn't imagine anything negative or wicked coming to pass along the dawn Frei's path, a similar feeling he received from the Aurora femme. To answer her question, he dipped his tri-horned head with a smile. "I have. There's a pier near where my woman lives, they host regular festivals and have rides." The next part was simply natural progression. "I could take you, after all this." Revontulet was one he would have liked to know more about, their time meeting before thorough yet brief, an upset he was trying to no longer endure if he could help it.
The Sigel's expression changed subtly at the mention of the Satyr, however, noting that even Alex slightly glanced over her shoulder at the two. Both of them had run ins with Luka, and it seemed neither had been overly positive. "I hope he wont need rescuing," was all he'd say on the matter, his attention instead shifting to Iorek, the Frei he'd heard of many times from Alex but had never personally met. "I've heard great things of Iorek, and if you've fondness for him, then I simply must meet him." His smile again flickered over his features, but there was a voice -- a very, very unwelcome voice -- that entirely wiped the warmth from his features. Rigid, he turned his head, his blue eyes as cold as the ice that was a part of his being.
Alex had been about to comment that she didn't want Doucette to merely follow her whim, but the voice distracted her as well, far more well received than by her ward. "Eirdirsceol?" The name wasn't said very loudly, more out of surprise as she turned with wide green eyes to look at the wispy Sigel. With a happier expression, she grinned at the sight of the haphazardly composed Raevan.
"Eiry!" she cried out in greeting.
"Airy," Zul spoke the insult to the Sigel's name like a curse.
Casting Doucette a reassuring smile, Alex trotted towards the ghostly male, extending a hand to him as a means of inviting him to the group. "You are never not of use love!" she insisted, not having to look at Zul to feel the slight darkening of his expression. "This is the lovely Doucette and her beautiful Revontulet," again spoken in the not-quite-right manner, "and ladies, this is Eirdirsceol. He is ward to the little brother of the man I'm dating." There! Introductions aside, they could progress, if the two Sigel's could co-exist...
The demon's demeanor was certainly different, his posture stiff and his expression closed off. He hadn't been addressed, and as such, he was just as content to pretend the interruption hadn't happened. With a slight shake of his head, the knot of his brow relaxed and his eyes became less unkind as they rested upon Revontulet, expression falling into slight apology. "Forgive me, I forgot my place for a moment. Where were we?"
That was all the confirmation they were going to get from the demon in regards to the ghost.

Eiry was receiving three very distinct signals from the members of his new party. The unfamiliar members were looking at him with blatant confusion, and the other two were torn between an odious glare and a grin of welcome. Eiry immediately dived for the one person in the party who would greet him with kindness.
"Forgive me the late intrusion, but I heard about the case of the missing doctor and I had to lend my hand in aid! He is a good friend to me and my Isikoro, it would be a dishonor to him and me both if I did not lend my hand in some way!" he explained. For those who had known him since he was young, they could notice that Eiry was much more understandable now. He had forced himself out of much of his poetic lilt and dialect, trying to simplify it down towards something more modern. He took Alex's hand in warm greeting, for once in his life, actually giving his hand to her. Generally, the young sigel would pass his hand through the other's extended greeting, his own playful joke, but the raevan had matured since she saw him last. He knew that this was not the time for playful pranks. So instead, he gasped her hand firmly, and then adjusted it, so he could lean down and press a light and cold kiss to her knuckle. She was to be treated like a lady! He looked up to her, giving her a quiet communicative gaze of gratitude. Only she would really know just how grateful he was to at least have one friend in the party.
To the others in the party, Eiry moved to them each in turn, extending his cold hand to theirs to grasp. Like he did to Alex, he bent double and kissed the knuckle of each lady in turn. "Brave ladies, it is an honor to meet you both," he said earnestly, before tipping back straight backed, "I have seen your names on the rosters in the Lab, but I had not sequestered a chance to meet you. I wish it had been in happier times, but I am beside myself with joy all the same to finally introduce ourselves properly. I speak for my guardian and myself both when I insist that it is an honor! Doucette and Revontulet, such poetic names! If you need anything from myself at all, I would be more than happy to serve."
Now, Eiry gulped, there was one more raevan to greet. Trying to hide his timidness from the towering demon raevan, Eiry turned to him, straight-shouldered. This was the only raevan who had both the gumption and the power to hurt Eiry. Most of the other raevans he would be able to escape with his intangibility, lest they use their magic upon him, but Zul was a special case. Even after he had gone intangible, Zul had the ability to rip him out of that untouchable space, to freeze him with an anchor to reality. He had done it once before, and even then they had already developed a rocky and glowering relationship between them. However, that was years ago. Eiry was a different raevan than he was then. He was no longer the lonely dependent little brother to Rivener, defensive and unrealistically protective of his relationship with him. He was someone else entirely. Hopefully, he would get the chance to prove that to Zul.
"Zul," said Eiry once he finished summoning up the bravery to face him. He had convinced himself that he truly and wholeheartedly wanted to amend the relationship between them, and expressed this both through a bow and a hand outstretched towards Zul. Eiry had made it a grand display, hoping that it would impress Zul's grand nature. He had only then realized just how much smaller he was in comparison to Zul. "I wish to earn your respect again, because it is through realization through maturity that I should respect you as well. We are family, you and I. I hope that we can work alongside one another as tandem forces instead of opposing ones, but if you have other wishes, I can respect that as well. For now, I am glad to see you again, and in good health!"
Inwardly, Eiry felt like he was somehow making a mistake with being this honest. Perhaps he should have been more discrete. He wasn't sure. Eiry was a bookworm unsuited towards much public interaction, so he would have to hope for the best.

Unrestrained delight glowed on the aurora’s features at the offer to attend an amusement park together. The adventure with Cesc had been so delightful and easy. There was so little to worry about when one went to an amusement park. “We can ride the roller coasters?” she pressed, perhaps surprising him with her interest in the wild ride. Although the ferris wheel had been interesting, soaring over the park and absorbing the silence as if she could consume it, it had been the roller coaster that Revon found herself longing to experience again.
The first drop, with her rune practically in her throat...the memory made her shiver slightly.
“Iorek is...” the newborn stared before pausing and giving the distinct impression that had she been born with normal skin she’d be blushing at this moment. “He is special. I think you would like him very much Zul.” Although the frei’s interest in the other rock frei ran along a much more personal level, she was still sure that the demon would be happy to meet another such gentleman as himself.
Upon being introduced to the new sigel (and with Alex’s consent for him to join their small group) Doucette’s expression brightened into her usual cheery demeanour. “A pleasure to meet you Eirdirsceol! Please feel free to call me Doe, if you rather.” The woman’s cheeks blushed their usual pink at the kiss upon the back of her hand. Delightful. Another flatterer it appeared! Being that Zul was not her charge, Doucette tried overly hard not to be worried about the expressions and words exchanged between the two sigels. Instead, the woman just thanked whatever Gaia gods had given her newborn the group with two ‘adults’ so to speak.
A little frown had worked its way onto the corner of Revontulet’s lips as the ghost moved about their party. She was not displeased with his appearance, nor that she’d not been immediately addressed. Simply put, the newborn was out of her depths for such emotional conflict.
With a little shake of her head to Zul’s apology she gave his arm another squeeze. Such a gentleman, but he needn’t apologize to her. She was very little in this group of people and she was willing to accept that. Her entire desire for the trip was to not be left out entirely, but beyond that Ren concerned herself little with the actual role she was going to be playing in the search and rescue.
“Hello Eirdirsceol,” she greeted with warmth as he took her free hand. Already she liked his old fashioned ways, herself raised on classic black and white movies of times gone by. His fashion seemed yet older than the style she was familiar with but that was neither here nor there. Instead she waited with a patience befitting a moonstone for the two sigels to work out whatever was between them.

"It's hardly an intrusion Eiry," Alex responded with warmth, "you are a most welcome ally in this." She squeezed his hand gently as he kissed the back of it, her expression both soft and with understanding; indeed, she knew the minty Sigel and it was quite possibly the first time they'd touched outside of necessity. The poet's sincerity and show of earnest intent went far to lift her spirits, her smile only growing as he greeted the others in turn.
Zul, on the other hand, was infinitely less impressed. His blue eyes turned towards the elder Sigel when he was spoken to, expression unwavering from a neutral patience. He listened, however, unblinking through the hopeful words, his hand still lit delicately over Revontulet's own, and it was perhaps that anchor that kept him from sinking into old memories. "This is neither the place nor the time to wade through the mire of what we were," his voice was slightly clipped, but otherwise even, "and for now, any and all aid is welcomed to assist in the retrieval of the doctor." The demon looked away then, his gaze upon Alex a reminder that they needed to keep moving. "The importance of anything else pales by comparison. Shall we?"
"So we shall," Alex picked up immediately and cast another smile to Eiry before continuing ahead, letting the other Sigel know he was still invited to be by her side. Figuring he'd keep Doucette and potentially Revontulet company, she took a slight lead, entering the outer wall of trees with a distant sense of finality.
The demon didn't forget his previous conversation with the moonstone, but he was hesitant to return to the topic that was before Eirdirsceol's arrival. Since the Sigel was 'new' to the ladies, he retained his silence for the moment, deciding what to do only when Eiry made his move. He'd certainly not be stuck with the Wisp, not if he could help it.

Benefited by Alex's words, the minty sigel hiked his backpack straps upon his shoulders, checked his rather out of place cravat, and pressed forward along with the rest of the group as they started their slow journey through the wilderness. However, despite Alex's welcoming words, Eiry couldn't help but feel as if the relationship between himself and Zul were in no better condition than it was when the demon and his lady left the Delaran home so long ago. At least they had both agreed that this was no time and place to quarrel, because the last thing that the ghostly raevan wanted to deal with was a giant demon towering over his shoulder. Trying to settle his mind and his conscience, the raevan focused on the task ahead. With the pump of his wings, he raised himself a little, trying just to get to a height where he could scour the tall grass and the surrounding area for any sign of the felled doctor. He squinted his red eyes and began doing his part for the group. He had given his greetings back to the aurora raevan, giving as genuine a smile as he could muster before he left her to be cared for by the demon.
As the walked into the woods, with Alex leading the group, Eiry made sure to stay close to her if anything, but he had actually drifted behind her in the walk as his searching eyes made him slow down a bit. He ended up next to Doe, while behind him Zul and the moonstone raevan buddied up with one another. Just as well, Eiry thought, he didn't want to create any unnecessary conflict between himself and Zul and the best thing that he could do would be to leave him to his lady.
Eiry, though, didn't want to appear any less the gentleman than he attempted to be, and he lowered himself down to a manageable height next to the other lady, and bowed his head to her politely. They had been traveling for an hour now, and some light conversation was needed. A little timid, since he knew that Zul would probably be monitoring his interactions at any point in time, he lifted his voice in inquiry.
"My lady Doucette," he said, remembering to keep his eloquence in check instead of letting it ramble off into that of Shakespearean dialect, "Your energy will no doubt be of great benefit to this search. I am glad to see you along in aid of the doctor. My guardian wishes he could have come along, but he not only has to help watch over the Lab in the doctor's absence, but he must admit his inability to help in such a circumstance. His legs are very weak and require the assistance of crutches. Otherwise, I'm sure he would be more gentlemanly than me in entertaining you throughout the walk! He doesn't like to admit it, but Isi is quite the charmer! He would surely like to meet you after all this is over."
Eiry paused for a moment, before he looks to both Alex and Doe, opening his calm discussion towards them both, (even though he anticipated Alex to join his conversation about Isi). "Forgive me my curiosities, but I must ask, do you know of any clues or warnings that we should be aware of before we settle down for the night? I'm afraid I did not catch the briefing. Are there much dangers in the area besides that which has taken our beloved Doctor?"

As your party enters the jungle, the lush ecosystem spreads out before you. Teeming with life, the buzzing of insects and the calls of birds - the sound of the latter echoing through the sun-dappled canopy close by and far away - greets your ears as the sticky, soup-like thickness of the humidity "kisses" all exposed skin and hair. Enclosed in the trees, the moisture in the air feels like it has no where to go except onto everyone in the search party.
Already, it will not be an easy search.
Helping this along is the thick undergrowth. Not only does it seem to try and snag a sock, shoe, pant leg, bare leg, or fluttering ribbon, it also hides exposed roots, shallow holes and depressions, topsoil dwelling creatures, and all but the barest traces of what was once a path. The grasses are presently at knee height at their tallest but as everyone knows, the deeper you go the worse things will get as the wilds truly become untamed.

Revontulet did not mind the conversation dying away naturally. There was no need to talk of roller coasters in such a setting anyway. It would be silly to press the issue and besides, he had already promised his time to her...somewhat. Whatever the problem between the two older raevans, the aurora was not in the least concerned or interested in learning more about it. Butting into other people’s problems never went well in the movies she watched, and Doucette had an uncanny ability of finding herself in the middle of whatever errant trouble she happened upon.
“Did you know the doctor well?” the newborn finally ventured when the silence from the demon had stretched appropriately long and a new topic of conversation seemed required. Obviously Zul would have known the doctor in some capacity, would he not? Alex worked directly for the man, so how could he not have at least had some encounter with the figure they were searching for?
The further the group trekked into the forest, the more Ren seemed to grow interested in their surroundings, neon gaze never settling long on each new unique thing she found...while Doucette appeared decidedly less enthused. As the humidity continued to rise in the enclosed space, the moonstone’s temperature remained cool, if a bit slick to the touch. Her hair, on the other hand, seemed to take on a strangely liquid visual quality to it. Much in the way it glowed when she fed on light, it now seemed like the colours bled together, food colouring dripped slowly into a bowl of water.
The redheaded guardian would have traded anything for Ren’s hair at this point. Her curls were growing frizzier by the minute, puffing out in a slow, deliberate manner until she knew she’d resemble something like an orange cotton ball. Doucette was not what one would call fetching with a fro. And how stupid was she to assume that the shaded area under the trees would be cool? With her mouth set in a hard line and eyes casting about, the Irish woman was mentally vowing that her cast was going to find itself ‘accidentally’ being smashed off her arm soon as the temperature became more stiffing. The constricting item's itchy nature was not alleviated with the amount of sweat that was pooling within it.
Suddenly she realized that the wispy character had drifted back to her and begun speaking to her. With a somewhat surprised, but still welcoming expression on her face, Doucette gifted Eiry with a smile. “It sounds like you think very highly of your Isi,” she said, pushing her hair back with her good hand and stumbling a bit as it sent her off balance in the undergrowth. “This definitely doesn’t sound like the kind of place for him though. I am sure his help back at the Lab is just as important to the doctor. He would not like everything to just cease in his absence, I’d assume.” Thankfully the idle chatter took her mind off the suffocating dampness of the forest, but it was also distracting in the sense that she wasn't paying as much attention as she should and Doe found herself pausing to yank her clothes from rambling vines the deeper they progressed.
