This is a Private RP between KiiNiku's "Badgey" and Kamiki's "Evangelina." Please do not post in here without permission.
Badgey stretched out his legs after having been standing in the same spot for the last hour taking a nap. His joints creaked with the movement, which was surprising. He thought to himself, I'm not THAT old yet... With a shake of his head he started to trot along the river's path. It had been cooler next to the river on a hot day like this, and so he enjoyed every moment of it. The water was gleaming in the patches of sun that made it through the trees and he could see some fish swimming up stream.
As he trotted his way downstream he hummed a tune to himself. He had had a good dream of eating delicate flowers that were only known to grow near the base of the mountains and they were so good. If only they have been real. The taste was still fresh on his tongue as if he had just eaten some, but he hadn't had them in so long he wasn't even sure if they'd taste the same now. He felt as though he were missing out on something, but it was only just a flower.
But it was a delicious flower. That much he remembered.
That's when he thought, Where am I going? He twitched his ears back and turned toward the mountains. A smile crossed his muzzle as he made his way toward his destination. As he continued on he stared up at the mountains, judging the distance from where he was to where he'd have to go. It would be a good day's travel before he'd reach the base, but it would so be worth it.

Evangelina was out collecting berries; her favorite summertime hobby! They were all so big and juicy and came in so many pretty colors; she could barely stand it. She had fashioned some baskets to her little frame - like her father she was rather strong for her size - and was exploring along every vine, pond, stream, and bank she could find. Along the way she would pull pretty flowers and stick them in her mane; just for fun.
And she was snacking on clover and honkeysuckle as well. She should probably be watching her figure more, but summer just offered such a bounty! She didn't notice the badger colored companion heading her way- her nose was too busy rooting through bushes and clover patches- until she was pretty much on top of him. "Oh!"

Badgey could feel his heart beating in excitement as he thought about the delicious flowers that awaited him. Too bad he'd have to wait so long to eat them. He just didn't want to miss out! They were rare flowers, after all, that bloomed maybe only twice a year, if that! Oh, to see them bloom - and then eat them - would be a delight!
The smell of berries captivated his nostrils, along with the other scents the forest surrounding the river provided. Fresh berries, damp moss and dirt... it filled his senses! Ah, he loved it here! It was almost enough to deter him from his goal, but not enough! He wanted that flower, and he was going to get it!
He had had his eyes closed thinking about all the magnificent scents of the Kawani lands when he opened his eyes and almost tripped right over a mare. He stumbled and caught himself, jerking upright, his nostrils flaring in surprise as his eyes widened. "Ah! Sorry! I didn't see ya!"
He shook his mane out and took a couple steps back from the mare to make sure he didn't seem like a threat. He looked at her basket and what she was carrying: a smorgasbord of treats! Berries of every color filled the basket and Badgey couldn't help but drool ever so slightly. "What're you collecting those berries for?" He sniffed at them, wondering how they'd all taste at once. Maybe if he played his cards right he'd be able to get one or two of them for himself.

"Oh, it's okay!" She gave him a warm smile with shining eyes. Her voice was high, melodic, and reminiscent of bells. "I'm sorry, I should have been watching where I was going."
She looked over her shoulder at the baskets on her back. "Oh, the berries are always best in the summer. I'm going to take them back to my Order and maybe make some preserves out of the ones we don't eat so we'll have them in the winter. I would need to get my hands on some two-legger baskets and maybe some clay pots in order to do that, though." She paused, realizing she was rambling.
"My name is Evangelina, by the way. Nice to meet you!"

Badgey was slightly shocked by her high-pitched voice, compared to his lower voice. It sounded very soothing, though, which was an interesting side-affect, he thought.
He looked from her face back down to the basket of berries, then back to her face. He didn't really even know what she was talking about. Why would she want to go get two-leg items to help make her preserves? Couldn't she just mash them with her hooves?
Before he could even ask this, she introduced herself, which took him off guard. He nodded his head before tossing it back, causing his bangs to move out of the way. "I'm Badgey."
He could feel his stomach grumble. It sounded loud but he wasn't sure that she heard it. He looked back down at the basket, wishing he could just eat up the berries that lay inside.
Then he remembered his questions. "Why would you even want to use two-leg things?" He stuck out his tongue as if even the thought disgusted him. "Why not just use your hooves? Nothing like good ol' horse power to get the ball rolling!"

"Hello Badgey!" she chimed, happy to learn his name and committed it to her memory. However, at the mention of the two-legger accoutrements she tilted her a bit in confusion. She had never really thought about that way before. "Oh, well I guess I can mash them with my hoof," she said, looking down at them, "But then where would I put it? They would go bad before the winter was over, so sometimes you can put them in clay pots or the magical wicker baskets that they stay fresh - isn't that amazing?"
She looked at him, her eyes sparkling - there was no irony in her voice; she really did think it was amazing.
"I gather you don't like two leggers, huh?" she wagered. "Well sometimes you can get the baskets from the raccoons in the trading post," she added, trying to be helpful. "I have so many right now... would you like some?" she asked, rolling one of the baskets off her shoulders.

As she explained her enthused interest over the two-leggers baskets and how "magical" they were, Badgey could help but feel like she was missing out - or he was. He didn't really ever think about it too much as he barely spent time in the teepee with his own two-leg, let alone with others. He could barely understand why Evangelina would be interested in learning techniques from them.
And then her eyes sparkled and his eyes widened. He had never met another Usdia who was so... cheerful! It was actually kind of scaring him how friendly she was. He took a step back as the cheerfulness practically flowed off of her.
At her next question he looked down at the ground and pawed at the dirt. He thought about how to answer her, but he wasn't sure how it would come out. "It's not that I don't like them," he started, looking back at her. "It's just that I don't see anything wrong with being a horse and just living that way without any help from a two-legger!" He started to sound almost whiny, but it came out more harsh than he intended.
"Yeah, I could go to the trading post, but where's the fun in that?" He scoffed. "Raccoons taking care of my needs? That just seems weird to me." Badgey obviously didn't get out much. He didn't know how well other animals and humans could take care of them.
He looked at her a little shocked at the offer. He wasn't sure what to do. He had never really felt so much kindness from another before. "Uh," he said as he thought about it. Would he really want to just contradict what he said about himself? No, not really. But as he looked at Evangelina he couldn't help but feel that he didn't want to disappoint her. With a sigh he said, "Yeah, I guess." He took the basket in his mouth from her, unsure of what he should be doing.
His stomach growled again. He was so hungry.

Evangelina listened intently, her friendly smiling face wavering to include just a touch of genuine concern for what he was saying. "Oh, well, personally I don't think asking for help makes you any less of anything," she said. But quickly added, "But there's nothing wrong with being proud about your independence, either. Actually, I think that's quite impressive. I don't know if I'm that strong; so I try to give back where I can. Sometimes I wonder if I was bigger if I could do more. Do you ever feel that way?"
She nudged the basket open with her nose, uncovering an impressive bounty of fresh summer berries. "Help yourself, I can always get more, too."

Badgey thought about what she said as she opened the basket to offer him some berries. He wholeheartedly agreed and instantly dipped his nose in to pick up a few berries in his mouth before looking back up. He chewed on them loudly, but swallowed before he spoke.
"How do you know if you're not strong enough? Have you even tried?" He could feel the berries making their way to his stomach, but he was still hungry. He quickly dipped his head again to take a few more before looking as innocent as possible - though he didn't really know why he was doing that.
"And so what if you're not big like the other Soquili of the lands?" He chewed with his brows furrowed. "We're just as cool as any of them. But," he paused, swallowing as he tried to find his words. "I'm not sure I do feel that way."
He sighed, looking away for a moment. "I think life would be a lot easier if I were bigger, but I don't think that I should be any bigger because I might constantly trip over my own hoof from it!" He laughed, albeit a little forced, but he still meant it and found it funny.

((Super late tag. I'm sorry for the delay, I'm just getting back into Soq RP))
"Oh, I think I'm pretty strong for my size," she said. She wasn't trying to brag or anything, but she also didn't see any point of not being proud of the fact. "But I just wonder if maybe if I were bigger, I could do more. Like, my friends in the Order, they try to protect the lands from skinwalkers and Kalona and all kinds of threats that could hurt two-leggers and Soquili alike! They are like knight, you know, soldiers of legend? They wear armour and its just so grand! But I can't fight like they do, so I try to help out in other ways. Like collecting berries!" She smiled and gave a resolute nod.
"But, yeah, I guess we're just as cool, even if we're small. I guess I shouldn't fret too much."
