I was listening to the books on CD over my spring break and I noticed some things in the Hostile Hospital and The Slippery Slope that made me wonder whether or not Snicket hints at what the next books are going to be about, for example:
The Hostile Hosipital: arrow when Klaus & Sunny are escaping up the incomming information tube it says "felt as if they were crawling up a large mountain of ice" -> hints at The Slippery Slope
arrow and in the volunteers fighting disease song "if you breathe in deadly germs" -> Hints at The Grim Grotto
The Slippery Slope: arrow Snicket talks about being not knowing whether you have dressed properly for an even (his example is a party) until after the party is over, and makes reference to a diving suit. -> Hints at The Grim Grotto
Maybe I'm just pulling things out of my bum, but as far as I'm concerned, with these books there are no coincidences ninja

I say it's entirely likely that those are hints. I mean, Handler probably has the locale of all thirteen books plotted out in his head before he even writes then, so it's not unreasonable to think that he'd make reference to them. Keep in mind too that Snicket has recorded these events after they've all happened, not in the process of them happening, so it makes sense that he would refer to later events in earlier books. I seem to recall something being mentions in TEE about Beatrice being carried away by a bird. Could this have been a foreshadowing of TVV? Or perhaps of the strength, power, and influence of the crows in TPP?

Nohope02 Wow, I've never noticed that. Has anyone noticed anything else? I'm going to start looking for references like that, but none have caught my eye yet... Though I'm sure lots more people have spotted references and have yet to post them here.

I've listend to the first 10 atleast 3x each, and read them all once. I've only really listened to the last one once, but i don't think i'd pick up on any clues for the 13th until after the last one comes out >_< And if you just read/listen to the books they seem inconsequential...until you think ahead to the next books. They're just descriptions or observations of Mr. Snickets, it's hard to know what what arbitrary little detail would be related to the next book. I havn't gotten all the way through TGG (my 4th time listening to it), and i've only read the book 1.5 times and listened to it once, but if anyone picks stuff out, post it! mrgreen
