Lumos!"Swish and Flick!" Name: The Short Hyper One Name of student: Tobias "Toby" Oliver Dean Student gender: Male Student house: Ravenclaw Colors: Dark Grey, Violet, Navy Blue, Silver The sorting:Tobias licked his lips. He pushed the strands of hair out of his eyes, noticing that his hair was now moist with sweat. Disgusting, he thought. I hope I don't start to smell... I wish we could just get this over with.Luckily, because his surname, Dean, was so early on the list alphabetically, his turn for the sorting came up very quickly. He walked quickly and a little stiffly toward the stool, forcing himself not to break into a full run. He adjusted his shirt hem before sitting down. He'd always been fastidious about his appearance, and sitting in front of the whole school was certainly reason to want to look his best. He grimaced a little at the sight of the hat, because like the descriptions he'd read in the Harry Potter books and what his parents had told him, it was certainly old and more than a little dirty-looking. The last thing he saw before the hat dropped over his head was the face of one of his fellow first years: a girl with blonde hair and frightened blue eyes. Hmm... Tobias Dean, is it? A voice whispered, startling him. He jumped. The voice seemed to be speaking into his ear, and yet it seemed that it was placing its words directly into his head. It unnerved him a bit; he didn't like the thought of somebody just picking through his brain. "Yes?" whispered Toby. Ollie Dean's boy. I remember him. Good kid, intelligent. He did well in Ravenclaw."My mum was a Huff," replied Toby. "Acacia Lewana?" Yes... both of them were easy sorts... You, on the other hand... I can see facets of both of your parents in your personality. A high sense of morality and respect for others... those are strong Hufflepuff traits. On the other hand, there is a definite thirst for knowledge and a meticulous diligence in all your work. Those traits could easily have me place you in Ravenclaw like your father.Toby nodded. His mother had raised him to work hard and to be respectful of others, and his father had instilled in him a great love of reading and learning. He recalled a day out with his parents and his sister and brothers (well, the two of them who'd been born by that time), wandering the streets of Diagon Alley. He'd wandered into Whizz Hard Books, picked one off of the shelf, and promptly settled in. His parents found him three hours later, having frantically searched high and low for him for at least an hour. "So which one am I?" Toby wanted to know. Well, I'm not sure yet. I get the sense that you work hard to get what you want, and that you have the gift of careful observation and self control. Those traits could go either way, honestly. You are methodical in your work and pay close attention to detail, which are traits coveted by Ravenclaws, and yet your loyalty and sensitivity to other peoples' feelings lend themselves well to Hufflepuff.Toby nodded again, groaning a little internally. It was a war that had raged in his own head since he'd gotten his letter -- no, since his parents had first told him wonderful, fantastical tales of their times at school. They'd both told him great things about their houses, and as a result, he'd grown up not being entirely sure which house he preferred. "Do you know which one I am, then?" It had been nearly two minutes, and Toby had begun getting anxious. What if the hat decided he wasn't cut out for either house and just sent him home? Oh, don't worry about that. There's magic in your blood. We'll get there. Do you have an opinion of where you'd like to be?"Er... well, my own head has sounded much like the what you've told me already. I've tried reasoning it all out in my head, and it pretty much just ends up with me not knowing... but I suppose, if I did have to choose, I'd go with Ravenclaw." A wise decision. I'm inclined to agree with you, then. Ravenclaw is a fine house, and I'm sure they'll be proud to have you."RAVENCLAW!" The hat shouted out to the hall at last, and Toby punched the air with relief and elation and hurried over to the table of cheering students awaiting him.

Luxos"Swish and Flick!" Name: irishgirl1017 Name of student: Sacharissa Aramita Chadgwyck Student gender: Female Student house: Slytherin Colors: Green, Silver, Orange, Red, and Black The sorting: Sacharissa was sitting quietly awaiting her turn but her eyes kept darting about the large chamber to get a feel for all the other first years who awaited the same as she. So many wore certain colors hoping to be chosen for the respective house it was known for. ~sneering~ I wear green due to several things, one I love it, two it looks good on me and three it is a color of Slytherin she thought to herself. Though I chose to wear green due to it is my family's color. she almost said out loud. Forcing herself to relax she watched as a small delicate female approached when a name was called. The girl looked about ready to pass out but slowly stepped up and sat down. Within a few moments the words "Ravenclaw" was heard booming and bouncing off the chambers walls. The girl smiled and walked off to join the others already chosen for that house and sat. Sitting and waiting was something Sacharissa always had trouble doing even as a young girl. She was always impatient for her turn and wanted it then not later. To keep her mind occupied she looked around the room again and thought she saw a shadowy figure lurking in the shadows of one of the large marble columns that decorated the chamber. Shaking her head she looked again just as her name was called in a loud voice. Realizing she was to be sorted she got up, walked up the steps and sat and awaited the hat's choice. Well well I see several traits in you that can be said will do well in certain houses, difficult it is to choose but one for you. Hmmmmm.... the hat said. Nodding slightly she awaited the hat to pronounce her house so she could be seated and not be the center of attention for she felt every single person looking at her but also a feeling of being watched by something else and it intrigued her greatly. I have had others similiar to you over the many years who have sat and they wished to be placed in a specific house when another would suit better. You are one such as those. You possess several traits that would allow you to be placed in all 4 of the houses. You are cunning, intelligent yet loyal and brave. Your thirst for knowledge leads me to believe you would be better suited for Ravenclaw, though your loyalty would be suited for Hupplepuff and your bravery for Gryffindor, I can not over look your cunning and strong ambition which would suit perfectly for Slytherin. Such a dilemma though I am certain you have your choice and I will discover it the hat said as it moved slightly as if reading her mind for her choice. You are shaking young one, do not fear you will have your wish. Slytherin! the hat shouted causing the walls to seemingly shudder in response. Sacharissa felt relief at the announcement, she had studied everything she could about the House of Slytherin. Determined to become a member she set out early on to learn and develop skills needed to ensure she would be. Standing up she walked over to the table that seated the other chosen Slytherin first years and took a seat. She felt like she had come home and knew she was where she truly was meant to be. Feeling eyes still on her she turned quickly and saw the shadowy figure once more then it seemed to vanish before her eyes. Looking around at the others at the table no one seemed to notice what she had. Either I am seeing things or I was meant to see the figure and no one else but why? she thought to herself. No matter it has gone and there was still sorting left to do. Resigning herself to enjoy the rest of the sorting she turned back and awaited the next student to take the chair.

Lumos"Swish and Flick!" Name: Fea Line Name of student: Andrea Dunshaw Student gender: Female Student house: Slytherin Colors: Orange-red, silver, black, white, gold, sky blue, green. The sorting: Andrea shuffled in with the rest of the first years, flipping her hair back over her shoulders as she smacked her gum rather loudly and cockily. Her lips pursed as she watched the students before her get sorted into their various houses. "Ravenclaw!
Must be... Hufflepuff!
Gryffindor!!"The girl rolled her eyes and flicked her hair once again, pausing to stare at her nails as if she were bored out of her mind. Her surname, beginning with a D, meant she hadn't long to wait and good thing too. She could hardly stand being so close to these.... losers. In her mind, she already knew where she belonged. Her family had a history of being placed in Slytherin and so not a shadow of a doubt formed in her mind. At least... not that she let on. Her entire ride over, she had managed to be lucky enough to chat with some second and third year Slytherins, hoping to impress them with what she had already begun teaching herself. Potions were her thing, naturally, as was her wizard mothers. But now that she was actually nearing the sorting hat, a tiny sensation began prickling its way up her spine, sending goosebumps all over her skin. A few more students were called next, the sorting hat taking longer on some, shorter on others. It was her turn soon and suddenly she found herself feeling something she usually never felt before. Anxiety coupled with the hope that the hat would take longer on this child so as to delay her turn further....but alas it would not be so. Hufflepuff!" the hat shouted out followed by a brief moment of silence.... "Andrea Dunshaw..." a voice then called and students began to look around for the matching face. Taking a deep breath, Andrea did her best to swallow her fears and stepped up to take a seat. She glanced out over at the Slytherin tables, a few of the students she had met earlier giving her thumbs up. One cute boy in particular gave her a cocky smile which made her cheeks flush. She sucked in a breath of air and attempted to return the smile, though Slytherin knows it might have come out extremely awkward on her face. Suddenly, her head felt warm and strangely alive as the hat made itself comfortable. It seemed to hum in thought for a moment, which made her pause and begin to question what might be taking so long. Shouldn't it have shouted Slytherin already? Clearly her family line... though being mixed along the years, would have told it by now she definitely belonged in Slytherin. Andrea smacked her gum again, louder this time as she grew increasingly more anxious. "Child, why do you fidget. It's clear what I'm to do with you, silly you should harbor doubts now.... Of course it has to be... " it paused, as if it were drawing out the results just to make her fidget more, before the hat's voice rang loud and clear across the great hall. "SLYTHERIN!"Applauds and cheers erupted from the Slytherin table. Andrea finally let out the air she had been holding in for what seemed like ages. She slipped off the seat just as the hat left her head and made her way over to her new housemates. She flicked her hair back yet again and smoothed out her robes, her mouth moving rapidly with each chew of her gum. "Well well, seems you were right after all. Welcome to the ranks of Slytherin, Rea." the one cute boy from before grinned as he patted the empty seat next to him. Andrea pulled her usual cocky, cool and collected face. "Well duh, where else would I end up? Slytherin is in my blood." she grinned and took a seat next to the boy, silently thanking the heavens that was over.

LUMOS!!"Swish and Flick!" Name: LordPocky Name of student: Notaku (means growling bear) Qaletaga (means guardian of the people) Student gender: Male Student house: Ravenclaw Colors: Red, black, or simply house colours. If you find yourself tempted to do something based on his culture bear in mind Salish art is VERY different than Haida art c: The sorting: When his letter had first arrived it sounded like some stupid joke. A school no one had heard of? To learn magic? And even more.....in Europe? Well that was a far stretch from the West Coast of British Columbia. But then....his mother had been fairly persistent in telling him he WOULD be attending the school. Honor to the tribe his foot....Notaku was just as content learning medicine from the tribe's healer.....his mother. From what she told him, when Canada was first colonized the Navajo (Where his mother originated) had offered up a student of promise to learn about European witches and wizards, and teach them about the ways of a spiritual healer. His mother's side of the family had held an unwritten pact with the school for the sake of multiculturalism.....however, Notaku's 11th birthday seemed like an odd time to learn that.
Notaku felt he had little to learn from 'witches' and 'wizards' that had forsaken their ancestors in favor of....newer, powerful spells....but his mother knew well that showing him his timetable would quickly change his mind.
Transfiguration? FASCINATING! He'd heard that some could even change THEMSELVES into ANIMALS! To him that made the best sense of all! How better to be one with nature than that? Potions he could begrudgingly see a use for, his mother herself admitted to being able to teach him only so much about them. Defence against the Dark Arts....it could be useful....their tribe had taken it upon themselves to hunt spirits that preyed upon men. Astronomy....well...he had to admit a certain curiosity to how someone so far from nature would perceive the night sky...especially when he knew perfectly well how city lights stole the splendor of the stars. Damn his interest in studies.
However, he had to admit to being wrong when he got to the school. It was somehow quite far from cities (Contrary to his belief) and surrounded by a beautiful forest he'd decided he would investigate later. The sky as it darkened even offered a show of stars! It wasn't like back home, but far better than back in London...he had to admit to being a little wrong about the school, but he hoped he had also been wrong about the people. He didn't expect to meet very many open-minded people at the school....
The sorting came as a bit of a surprise, his mother had mentioned little about the school and certainly hadn't said a word about a......singing hat. Perhaps it was some comical relief to relax the new students? There were certainly some that seemed to be very on edge.
"Qaletaga, Notaku."
He stepped out of the line when his name was called, taking to the stool. The hat was barely touched to his head before the brim split wide to shout; "RAVENCLAW!".
The louder applause guided him to his new housemates, a seemingly pleasant lot. The sorting left him wondering though; it seemed like many of the other students had taken a while before the hat sorted them, what was so different with him? He had no qualms about being put in a house that valued wit and creativity....actually that seemed to be fairly accurate for him. But perhaps he simply expected something.....more?

LUMOS! and sorry it's so long, I got carried away a bit."Swish and Flick!" Name: Midnightangel2473 Name of student: Laelia Deliah Lowsley Student gender: Female Student house: Ravenclaw Colors: Rainbows (Is that a color rofl ), Purples, Greens, and Blues if we need to get particular. The sorting: Darkness soon fell on the streets. All was quiet and Laelia fidgeted in her bed. She held the stolen letter with her name on it up to the flickering candle light, not sure if she should open it or not. What could this old looking letter contain? It looked like something she might see in an old timey movie or something. She brushed the hair from her face and decided it was time to open it. She got her letter opener and gently slit open the paper ever so neatly, feeling like if she went too quickly it might disintegrate right there in her hands. Her face dropped when she read the contents on the scroll. "A school to study magic?" her eyebrows raised in confusion. "This clearly has to be a scam, I've never even heard of this school, though it does sound familiar". She tried to remember where she heard the name 'Hogwarts' but it just wasn't coming to her. Laelia decided that she would 'play along' since she was always up for an adventure and new experiences, especially since her over protective father never let her do anything fun. Ever since her mother had died, for reasons her father refused to tell her, he was always paranoid about her going out of the house. For some reason he also never wanted to let her get the mail and If she would try to get it he would start screaming at her and then she would be locked in her room. "What the heck was up with that. I shouldn't have to sneak my own letters out of the mail box before he gets home," she said out loud. "Why is my father so crazy?" she shouted angrily to her stuffed animals. She decided it was time to finally be her own woman and do what she wanted for once. She packed up some clothes, some toiletries, and the raggedy worn teddy bear that her mom had given her when she was just a baby. She wiped a tear from her eye, descended quietly out the window, and down the dimly lit street. It took quite a few hours to finally get to the train station. "Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts," she kept repeating to herself. "Where have I heard that name before"? It was driving her crazy trying to remember where she heard it. As she reached the train station her fear grew. Should she really have run away like that? Her father was over protective but maybe he would still worry about her. He did at least love her right? She bit her lip hard but decided this was for the best. "Who needs him?" she said as she took a look at the letter now damp with tears and sweat. "Alright, it says to go to platform nine and three quarters. Well that doesn't make any sense," she said with a confused look on her face. Then all of a sudden she remembered where she had heard the name Hogwarts. Her friend had told her of a magic school from a book she had read, and the only way to get there was platform nine and three quarters. Basically right between platform nice and ten. "Oh yeah that's right, I am suppose to run through that wall. I guess I found out why I think it is a scam, as if it isn't obvious," she laughed and rolled her eyes. "Well I guess this is going to hurt," she chucked and took a full run at the wall. "Where the hell am and I why didn't I break my face," she said out loud. She found herself on a whole new platform, surrounded by swarms of people who hadn't previously been there, and looking at an old rustic steam engine instead of the modern electric ones she had just seen moments ago. The rest of the trip was quite a blur to her. She wasn't sure whether she was dreaming or what. Her head was spinning as she reached the giant doors of the castle. None of this was making any sense and she didn't know what was going on or what to expect. As the doors opened, presented in front of her was a huge dining hall filled with tables, chairs, and hundreds of students. She gazed up at the high vaulted ceiling, amazingly filled with stars and floating candles all around her. She focused back to the gathering of students some of which were fidgeting in their seat, some were bouncing around excitedly, some were casually talking with other students, and some were just gorging their face with food. Laelia took a seat next to some of the quieter students. She gave a slight nod and a smile then looked out at the widely spread food. Her head was still spinning so she grabbed a small biscuit and nibbled lightly on it. She hadn't eaten anything since she left her house and she figured that's why she was getting dizzy. There had been a candy cart on the train filled with strange foods she had never seen before, and all of which were quite weird to her. She had decided that none of it looked very appetizing to her, "What was a chocolate frog anyway? Anything beans?" Whatever they were, she wasn't too keen on finding out. This biscuit was the first normal thing she had seen since falling through the wall. She was lost in her thoughts when all of a sudden she was interrupted by the booming voice of a dark skinned gentleman. Apparently the way the school worked was each of the new students was to be 'sorted' as they called it. All the students went up one by one and were put in one of the four houses; Grypffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, or Hufflepuff. Most of the students clasped their hands together, as if in prayer, and hoped out loud for a certain house. Laelia sat dumbfounded about what each of the houses were. "What is the difference?" she asked one of the students sitting next to her. The girl just stared at her stupidly for a moment then put her attention back to the front where a strange pointed old hat was now being brought out. "Maybe I was drugged," she said, her eyes now widened as she watched this now 'talking' hat choosing the fate of each of the new students. "What is going on here"?! She started to shove more biscuits into her mouth, hoping to break herself out of these hallucinations that she assumed was brought on by hunger, and bring herself back to reality. Nope! These hallucinations were not going away. Either she was tripping really hard or this was actually happening. Her thoughts were once again interrupted as she heard her name being called from across the room. "Laelia Lowsley"! the booming voice of the headmaster rang out. She slowly made her way to the front, fear blazing on her face. As she sat down the hat was placed gently on her head. The old thing felt weird and a little bit itchy. "Hmm this one is a little difficult," the hat thought out loud to himself. "I sense some strong magic in you young one," the hat said with a happy tone. "No, no that doesn't make sense, I have no magic in my family, honestly I thought this was all a joke," Laelia commented out loud. "Ah my dear but you do...but I do think you shall fit nicely with....RAVENCLAW," the voice shouted to the great hall. The whole banquet hall filled with applause and the hat was removed. She quickly made her way to the Ravenclaw table. Her face now shown with confusion rather than fear. "I..I don't understand," she stammered as she took a seat next to a new boy who had just been placed in the house as well. "What did the hat mean I have magic in my family"? She was unsure of what was going to happen to her from all of this. All she knew is she needed to find out what the hat was talking about...no matter what it took.

Lumos"Swish and Flick!" Name: WithMurderTonight Name of student: Darcia Rain Student gender: Female Student house: Gryffindor Colors: Hot Pink, Green-blue, black, silver, Dark Purple The sorting: Darcia began braiding her hair as she scurried along with the other first years to stand before the hat that would decide her destined house. Her muggle mother, Juniper, had little knowledge of the school and it made her wish her father was alive today. He had died in an unfortunate accident when she was just an infant, so he wasn't much help in her magic puberty. Her mother never expected her to be going to Hogwarts, so she never even attempted to explain anything about magic. Both Juniper and Darcia had been in utter surprise when the letter from the school arrived. Although surprised, they did manage to figure out what they would be doing and a little knowledge about the school from one of her dad's wizard friends. She sighed as she heard singing coming from somewhere in the room. It took half the song for her to realize it was a hat singing. She probably shouldn't have been as surprised as she was but she did gasp. She received some raised eyebrows and a few glares from some of the students standing close enough to hear. She crossed her arms against her chest and shrugged at them. Most of the students looked like they were used to magic more than herself. She had been reluctant to journey through the pillar that would lead to Platform 9 3/4 as it was very new to her. When the song was finished it began calling names and sorting them into their respective houses. She realized that the hat was doing so in alphabetical order and that it would be a while before it got to her. She wondered if she would be sorted into the same house as her father was. He had been a Slytherin but Darcia was told that his brothers had both been Gryffindors when they attended Hogwarts. Her dad's family had actually been a mix of Gryffindor and Slytherin for many generations. She heard a familiar name shouted through the room. It was the son of her dad's friend. They had become acquainted when Darcia and her mother visited them and even more so on the train ride to Hogwarts. Silently, she wondered how they could have gotten separated. This had been one of the few sortings she had wanted to pay attention to. The others were students that looked like people she could make friends with. She smiled up at him when she heard the hat call, "Slytherin!" The Slytherin table broke into another set of cheers and he made his way to that table. It was a while before the Q's started being called. Darcia would be one of the R's to be called, so she prepared herself which house she would be sorted in. She didn't think she would be sorted into Ravenclaw since she never really picked up a book of her own free will. She wasn't really sure about Hufflepuff. She was loyal but was that really everything to her? She was confident that either Slytherin or Gryffindor would suit her better, from what little she knew. She could be a leader when she wanted and was ambitious when she needed to be. Her bravery was hardly masked unless taking on running through magic doors into new worlds. Obviously she would leave the final decision up to the Sorting Hat. "Darcia Rain," called the magic hat. Nervous, just as many of the others, she made her way up to the chair and sat down. She glanced between the Slytherin and Gryffindor tables. She was extremely confident it would be either of those that she would be placed in. "Such a confident young one. I see that you would feel better in either Slytherin or Gryffindor, right?" Darcia nodded her reply to the hat. "It's easy to see which would suit you better. Bravery emits from every place in your brain." His pause had her closing her eyes with impatience. "Gryffindor"The hat was removed from her head, and she practically skipped to her new housemates. She had felt a small disappointment that she wasn't in Slytherin but quickly got over it. Life couldn't be too different in either house. She was ecstatic as her new housemates started congratulating her with pats on the backs and surprise hugs.
