Spring Lakes, the northern most town in the valley, is only accessible by the western and eastern bridges. The huge river that flows down through this part of the valley comes straight from Mount Smokey and feeds the reservoir that sits up behind the town. These thick sturdy bridges span a canyon that contains the river. It's a sheer drop down but one can see the lower road that hugs the waters and loops up into Spring Lakes. There is no way to access the road though without going across the bridges first. Cars line the bridges trying to get in but no matter how they push it won't help. The army set up huge metal gates and sealed the bridges off. There are soldiers keeping watch high above each gate and are ordered to shoot anyone who attempts to force their way in. It might not seem like that big a deal if the only road out of the valley wasn't trapped behind those gates.
