Patrolling had gotten a bit different lately than it had been when Ida had first started. Before, she'd spent most of her time hunting down youma and dusting them. Now, she seemed to be running into chaos agents left and right while she struggled to find new senshi or knights. She felt there had to be a better way than running around chasing down the power signatures to find out who they belonged to...

Until she figured it, though, that's what she was forced to do. This particular signature was vaguely familiar, and stronger than what she was looking for, but it wouldn't hurt to check in with another higher level senshi and see if they had seen anything.

Pacing along the top of a roof, balancing on the edge in her little purple boots, Sailor Ida clasped her hands behind her back as she looked about for the senshi she could feel nearby.

Ganymede spent most of his time as a Senshi with his booted feet planted firmly on the ground.

Rooftops were certainly not his domain—though he took to them occasionally, as they offered excellent vantage points, and it was often said that having the higher ground in a battle was ideal. For the most part he kept to areas of the city he was more familiar with, and streets he'd traveled up and down as a child. Perhaps it was sentimental of him to do so, but those were the areas of town in which he tended to feel more confident. They were his parts of the city, old haunts he'd come to frequent less and less as he grew up and spread his wings and began to get his feet in the door of high society. The memories were sustaining. They helped evoke the protective streak that often got lost beneath a healthy dose of self-preservation.

Tonight he'd taken to ambling around is less familiar places, departing from the DCU campus to begin weaving his way through less familiar streets as the city began to wind down. He had begun to consider calling it a night and making his way home when he felt the presence of another Senshi. It wouldn't have been an uncommon move for him to ignore it and go about his business, but he felt curious tonight.

As Paris he'd always been a social being; as Ganymede he still struggled to do the same.

Ganymede looked up and down the street as he turned the corner, searching out the other presence. Finally he turned his eyes up to the rooftops and spotted a figure balancing on the edge of one. He was fairly sure he recognized that color purple.

“Ida, right?” he called, a little hesitant. He was still generally terrible with names.

Hearing her name called grabbed her attention and the orchid senshi turned to look over the edge of the building to see who it was. The voice wasn't immediately familiar, but the fuku was, drawing a bright smile to her face.

"Ganymede!" She called back as she waved. Heights had always held a strange attraction to the teen, which was why she tended to use them for travel when she didn't care to dodge innocent people. Going about unhindered had been especially important of late, since that stupid documentary had come out. You never knew who would decide to join the side of the 'vigilantes'... Still, she was perfectly happy to give up her vantage point and the teen fell gracefully from the summit to land lightly beside the eternal senshi.

"I didn't expect to see you out here! Are you patroling too?" She said as she grinned, clasping her hands behind her back. It was good to see the other senshi out and about. Meeting her at the training session had been nice and Ida had been hoping they would meet up again, maybe get a chance to chat.

Patroling was, perhaps, the wrong place to be when you wanted a chat, but cest le vie. She would take what she could get.

Sunshine Alouette
thing to note, until indicated otherwise, Ida is operating on the assumption Gany is a girl, cause he looks like one. Not a big deal, she doesn't care either way, but something to note
PostPosted: Sat Aug 10, 2013 6:57 pm

“Yeah, sometimes I'll drag myself out for a short patrol,” Ganymede said. “I figure it's the least I can do.”

He sounded vaguely humorous and perhaps mildly sarcastic, but it was true enough. His life as a Senshi was somewhat less important to him than his life as a normal civilian was, and he didn't expect that would ever change—barring any dramatic, unforseen circumstances. He'd gotten this far without losing his sense of being Paris; he didn't intend to let go of it easily. He'd been Paris first, after all. He'd be halfway to losing his own personal part of the war if he ever happened to forget that.

Still, it was nice to run into an ally from time to time—much more preferable than a youma or an agent of Chaos. He new very little about Ida as of yet, but from their previous encounter he could at least consider her a friendly face. There were so few Senshi he could add to the list of those he hadn't yet argued with. It was always heartening to come upon a new one.

“I usually come out after I'm done with rehearsals anyway,” he explained. “Seems like a perfect enough time. Probably heading home soon, though. There doesn't seem to be too much action tonight.”

Which was just the way he liked it.

Not a problem at all! She's more correct than she knows (and more correct that Paris/Gany has admitted or come to terms with as of yet.)

Part of Ida wondered why Ganymede did short patrols, but the greater part of her simply accepted it. She must have a reason for doing it that way, right? And any amount of patrol was more than none. Ida maybe pushed herself more than she maybe should have... She had never been an above average student, but she was have more trouble than usual paying attention in class after the late night patrols. She certainly couldn't blame Gany for not wanting to do that...

"Oh! Rehearsals? What are you rehearsing?" Ida hadn't really had a chance to find out much about the other eternal the last time that they had met, so the questions sort of sprang up on their own and, if Gany were patient enough with them, would keep coming for a bit. A little get-to-know-you conversation was always good when there was a lull in patrol.

"I have choir rehearsals at school. It's nothing fancy though, just a normal high school concert choir." She said with a shy little smile. Anything Ganymede was doing was sure to be a lot more interesting than anything she was. Granted, she wasn't exactly sure how much older the enteral was, but she assumed she was out of highschool.

“Oh, nothing in particular right now,” Ganymede said with a small, friendly smile. “We don't do any big shows during the summer sessions, but I like to get some practice in anyway. I mean, summer school,” he explained, though for the sake of protecting his civilian life he didn't go into too many of the details. “I'm in college, trying to get some credits out of the way. I like to keep my days busy, and summer classes seem to be a good way of doing that this time of the year. I practice dance afterwords. I'm a ballerina.”

He didn't hesitate before using the word or even consider something a little more... appropriate. As far as Ganymede was concerned, that was appropriate. He supposed it was likely that Ida didn't see him as a “him” anyway, which suited him just fine. He preferred it that way, and saw no need to make any corrections.

There weren't really any corrections to make if she assumed what he thought she assumed, but Ganymede wasn't sure he could completely come to terms with that just yet.

“I think you mentioned that last time,” he said. “The choir thing, I mean. That's pretty cool. I never really thought to do that when I was in high school. I was... uh... in with a different sort of crowd back then, I guess. Probably would have liked doing choir if I'd tried it, though. Sometimes my husband and I sing with the choir at mass,” he continued, and then paused, lifting a hand to his face with his elbow propped on his other arm, which he curled around his abdomen. “Although I guess that’s not really the same thing.”

"Oh wow, a Ballerina?" Ida's eyes went wide at that and she beamed. "You're a ballerina, in college AND you're married? Wow! How on earth do you... juggle all of that?"

She laughed as she bounced on her toes, watching the other with obvious admiration. She certainly had an exciting life! She was older than Ida was, but to be married so young, and dancing while going to college... it was honestly amazing to a girl who's aspirations had never gone much farther than the front door of her father's shop. Dating was a pie in the sky dream, marriage was in another universe... and while college was closer, Ida had always sort of assumed that there was no need to go. It was a waste of money when you planned on being a florist for... well, the rest of your life. Maybe a business degree would be nice, but part of her wondered i she was even smart enough to make it into college.

"I have a hard time juggling highschool life with senshi life and my family on top of it all... How do you keep it all from your husband?" That was one of Ida's biggest problems at the moment... her brother had noticed bruises before and now he watched her intently for any other odd behavior. It was getting hard to get out at night, though the balcony outside her room helped.

"Choir really isn't anything special compared with that. Singing is easy... you just open your mouth and sing, you know? Ballet... that's way harder."

Ganymede responded to the admiration with a small but still obviously pleased grin. He did love attention, after all—particularly positive attention.

Although, the more questions he had coming his way the more he realized he did have quite a lot in his plate. Compared to how he used to go about life, his schedule these days was pretty packed. He didn't really have much of a concept of free time anymore, though he couldn't say he found that to be in any way displeasing. Free time meant there was a good chance he'd end up thinking about and stressing over things he wasn't able to control. A packed schedule was easier to handle in comparison.

“My husband knows,” he said with a tiny shrug. “I don't think I'd be able to keep this kind of stuff from him for very long. Aside from the injuries and the occasional late nights, the stress and the crying and the being sick over some of this stuff would be pretty difficult to explain, and I don't exactly like keeping huge secrets from him, so... he's known for a while. It works out anyway, seeing as he's a knight.”

Ganymede grinned again, but there was something slightly pain about the expression. It was half a grimace. Their powered lives had certainly brought he and Chris closer together, and were probably responsible for prompting them toward marriage so soon, but he often wished things didn't have to be this way.

Imagine how different life would be if there was no war.

“As for the rest of it... you should see my day planner,” he joked, and laughed lightly. “After a while at this, you start to realize you're losing a piece of yourself to it. So I keep to a schedule. Breakfast, class, lunch, class, dance, homework, dinner, patrol, sleep. It's not easy, and sometimes the patrol ends up going a bit passed schedule considering that's probably the hardest thing to cram into a set time period given that youma and Chaos can't really be controlled so easily, but it's worked for me so far. I don't want to lose out on an otherwise normal enough life just because of this stuff, you know?”

Ida listened intently to the answers to her questions, taking in some of the differences between them. There were some similarities too though, and her mention of getting sick over some of the things they saw brought a grimace to her face and a deep pain to her eyes. Nothing was easy any more and there was far too much of the painful stuff lately.

Ganymede's talk of a planner and loosing a part of herself struck more chords in Ida, and for a moment she was silent, sort of digesting it. She didn't want to admit it, but sometimes she did feel like she was loosing part of herself... there were time she wondered 'what am I doing? I never would have done this, before'. It was so hard to deal with two lives and keep them strictly separate...

"Its really nice that your husband is a Knight. I feel like that would make some things easier, like you said. Explaining where you go and what you do and why you come home sometimes with bumps and bruises... I have to work really hard to hide mine from my brother and my father. My Da isn't so bad... he doesn't seem to notice things that aren't shoved in his face, but my brother is naturally suspicious. Half the time I have to bribe him with desserts to get him not to tell Da." She smiled crookedly over at Ganymede as she said it, trying to get back some of her lightness.

"I totally understand. Its really hard to balance all of this. I don't want to loose bits of my life to it, but at the same time, it feels like the time I'm not out here is time 'they' are free to do what they want to whomever they want and there is no one to stop them..." That was one of her biggest worries... that when she took time out of patrol and whatnot, it was to the detriment of the innocent people she wanted to protect. "I try to balance it as best as I can, but I wonder sometimes how well I'm doing."

Sunshine Alouette

“Well, look at it this way,” Ganymede tried. “Most of the people on the other side aren't much older than we are, which means they've probably got the same problems with family and normal life as we do. But the farther they fall, the more they end up getting separated from anything even remotely normal, and the more awful things they do... well, the more normal people are going to realize we're not the ones they should be worrying about.”

In some ways it seemed heartless to say that, given that the alternative of regular patrols and nightly battles against the forces of Chaos was stolen energy and the deaths of innocent people, but a part of Ganymede wondered if there wasn't some morbid blessing in disguise buried in there. Sometimes taking a step back and letting the other side make themselves look bad didn't seem like such a bad thing if it meant normal people got their heads on straight and realized who the bad guys really were around here.

And with all the terrible things they'd done... it couldn't keep going forever, could it? At some point they'd go too far, do too much, overreach themselves, and implode from within.

“I've always thought... that getting in too deep... getting too far involved... making this such a huge part of life... it never leads to anything good,” Ganymede said. “At some point you have to take a step back and remember who you were before you even knew about the war. I think the minute we let go of that is the minute we take one step closer to Chaos, and I don't know about you, but... that's not something I'm prepared to do.

“You want to keep that part of yourself,” he continued, “I figure the easiest way to do that is to hold onto the things you wanted before you even knew about the war or had any sort of part in it. Like, I always wanted to be a ballerina, so when I'm not out here doing this,” he waved a hand around them to try and encompass the war in a single gesture, “I'm doing whatever it takes to be a ballerina. I want to be normal and do really gross sappy things with my husband, and have stupid bougie dinner parties with our friends, so when I'm not out here doing this I'm loving my husband and figuring out ways to spent time with our friends, and maybe it doesn't always work out the way I want it to, but as long as I've still got that to hold onto to, as long as I'm still looking forward... I don't know, I guess I feel like I'm a little closer to winning the war. Maybe they're still out there hurting and killing people, but they haven't managed to beat me down yet, and that has to count for something, doesn't it?”

The way Ganymede talked seemed to only underline the issues Ida was having with her own life. To her surprise, she realized that in her head, the two halves of her life were not a separated as she would like them to be. She had unconsciously been mixing the two and crossing things over from one side to the other. While it might not have been a very big issue now, it was part of the reason she felt she was have difficulties now. The answer though, to separate both completely, was easier said than done. It was a lot of food for thought.

"I suppose I can see that... its hard to hide nefarious activities as good things. I don't like the idea of those bad things happening, but you have a good point. I'll never be able to just sit back and let it happen though. I'm always going to have to do what I can to stop them." The teen shrugged off the heavy thoughts and bounced on her toes, putting a forced lightness into her step. This was supposed to be a fun get-to-know you and it was getting a little heavy with the ever-present senshi business. War wasn't exactly fun to talk about and Ida found that she rather liked talking about lighter things with Ganymede.

"I'll have to remember to try and separate things more. You're right about needing to stay true to who you were before, but I feel like maybe I slip a little sometimes. It feels like all I do is school and chores and fill my free time with senshi business... its like all I do is kill time till I transform again. I think I need to try and... just be a teenager more than I do. I'm sure my friends would like to have more fun than we have been lately... and I'm going into my senior year now. That's supposed to be a big thing, right? I don't want to... miss something, because I've let myself get too focused on the other side of my life."

She offered Ganymede a large smile as she spun around, using the physical motion to brush off some of the seriousness that had crept up on them.

"I thought I had my life all planned out... I thought every day was going to be like the day before and it was going to be serene and easy..." She threw her arms out as she turned again, drawing in a deep breath. "Now I can't decide if I should go to college or not, if I should stay working at the flower shop or if I should explore other options... My little world feels like its exploded wide open and I'm really not sure of anything any more." Ida laughed brightly as she said it, gently flapping her arms to the gentle clinking of her jewelry.

"I'm not sure if I like it or hate it." She chuckled, feeling both freer and slightly overwhelmed with it all.

“Life isn't always easy, even without the war,” Ganymede said.

He frowned to himself the moment the words left his mouth. While they were certainly true, it wasn't anything he'd actually intended to say. Such personal things—and the darker parts of life always seemed much more personal than the lighter parts of it did—had no place in the current conversation. He barely knew Ida, and would rather not burden her with those sorts of things.

So he shook it off and smiled lightly, and focused instead of Ida's concerns.

“You should do whatever'll make you happy,” he told her. “If you want to go to college, go to college. If you don't, don't. You can always change your mind and try later. I never thought I'd want to go to college. Didn't really need to. It's not like I need a degree to be a ballerina. Besides, I skipped out on my senior year of high school, so...” he trailed off to shrug. “I never really thought college would ever be a thing. But then I thought, well, maybe one day I'd like to teach dance, and even though college isn't really required to do that either, after the hard time I had in high school I guess I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.

“You might end up with more free time in college,” Ganymede continued, with a little smile that teased 'plenty more time for patrolling.' “More control over your schedule and stuff. Don't have to be stuck in class all day if you don't want to be. Or you can keep working where you're at now. You work at a flower shop? No harm in trying out some other things, too, if you have other interests. Trying out something different can be exciting.”

Ganymede shifted on his feet as he spoke, moving his hands in random gestures every once in a while. It was hard to make suggestions when he didn't even know what Ida was looking for out of life, but the sheer number of possibilities out there seemed an exciting prospect to him.

It was certainly something to think about, if nothing else. She wasn't sure that throwing ideas at this new friend was really the way to go about it, though it was a pretty good way to inspire that thinking process.

"I'll have to sort through it, but you're right... I can go later, or not at all. I think Da would probably prefer I go to college. He did. I, uh... I have no idea what else I'd like to do if I wasn't a florist. That may take the most thought, you know? I just assumed I'd eventually take over the shop from my Da and just go right on running it. That's not a bad thing, but I've started to wonder what else is out there."

Glancing up at the sky as the thoughts swirled in her head, Ida was startled by how dark it had gotten. They'd been at this for a bit now, and if she were truthful, she should have been farther along in her patrol now. Not that she regretted stopping, quite the opposite.

"You know, it might be time to get going, though... I didn't realize how long I'd been out." She said as she dropped her eyes, reaching up to smooth the edges of her scarf back into place. Slender fingers tucked dark hair back and a warm smile spread over her face.

"I'm glad we got to talk though, I really enjoyed it. Maybe we can do this again sometime?"

Ganymede, too, was quite surprised by the late hour. He was usually much better at keeping track of the time, given how important it had become to him to stay on a per-determined schedule. Still, he did not regret the encounter, which was often a rare occurrence when it came to his life as a Senshi. There were still many, many things he did not know about Ida, of course, or about the civilian she was beneath the purple garb, but Ganymede could not help but like what he did know.

Genuine kindness had a way of earning a bit of his admiration and respect, far more than arrogance and forcefulness ever did.

“You're probably right,” Ganymede agreed, and held out his hand for a friendly parting shake.

“It was nice to meet you,” he said. “If you ever want to chat again, I'd be happy to. I'm not much for combat support, but I think I've got the talking part of it mostly down. Especially if it's about trying to keep hold of your life beyond all this. It's kind of my thing. What better way to beat the bad guys than to keep on living, right?”

He smiled widely, and lifted his other had to tip his miniature top-hat.

Ida took the offered hand gratefully, giving the hand a warm squeeze.

"It was nice to meet you, Ganymede!" The young senshi said as she released the hand, smiling brightly as hat was tipped to her.

Above all, she was grateful to add a new ally to her side, and in return, the other senshi would be able to call on her if she needed it. Ida would gladly fight by her side if the call ever came.

Maybe someday she would be able to balance regular life and senshi life as well as Ganymede seemed to be. It was something to hope for, certainly.
