A pizza joint with a live band? Unconventional? Certainly so. But Hafwen had to admit now that she was seated here with the majority of the soccer team post-training that the notion managed to at least garner the attention that the owner of the place was probably hoping for. The food wasn't outright bad really - some hits and misses which put it together with most of the eateries the blue-haired teen tended to frequent. Not a place that she would make a point to go to weekly but definitely one that she wouldn't mind coming back to whenever she had a craving for some pizza.

Today, as it was turning out, was one of her rarely encountered off days. She had attributed it all to her feeling a little under the weather after the doctor's appointment at the hospital yesterday for the concussion from the carnival. But this task that she now had to undertake under the watchful eyes of her fellow teammates as a result of some strange twist of fate really took the cake. She was going to go up to the drummer during the coming half hour break that the band had, flirt with him and try to get his number while using a cheesy pick up line that they had already come up with for her.

Getting up from her seat with a visibly strained smile, she tried to block out everything from her mind in favour of focusing on the task at hand, her pride the only thing that was stopping her from walking away from this very silly thing that she was about to do. She made her way over, her hands clasped behind her as she called out a greeting to try to get his attention. "Hi..."

It hadn't been his idea to accept the gig, really, it had been Steven's - and only because it was his parents place anyway. The cut wasn't significant - but it beat spending the summer busing tables. Plus it let them play and be an actual band so that was a plus.

They had played a pretty solid set Darren had thought, rolling his shoulders and stashing his sticks in his back pocket. He was just about to start going over the equipment to make sure everything was holding up when Steven tapped him on the arm and motioned toward a girl who had approached the stage. "Hey, Darren, looks like you got a fan, finally."

"Shut up," Darren grunted before turning his head and looking at the approaching girl, moving away from Steven and waving back to her as he closed the distance.

"Hey," he smirked at her, trying his best to give off the 'I'm a musician' vibe as best he could. "Enjoying the music?" He chuckled. "We'll be taking requests this set. Did you want to get yours in early?"

That's what she wanted right?

The drummer. He really wasn't her type even if Hafwen was remotely interested in getting hitched with a boy. The blue-haired girl dismissed the notion as quickly as it had come to her mind, the strained expression that was on her face moments ago replaced entirely by one of pure unadulterated delight as Darren's friend made the introductions before leaving them both to their own devices.

"Yeah. You guys do this every evening here or do you play at other joints as well?" Nodding at his question, she paid the band a compliment that she personally felt it rightfully deserved, hoping to score a couple of brownie points with the boy who looked around her age as she next dropped the pickup line she was supposed to include at some point in the conversation to indicate her interest in him. "Hmm... how about one of your favourite pieces that will allow my heart to beat in synchrony with your drums?"

Smiling coyly, she batted her lashes a few times, her hand lifting to play with her hair as she wasted no time and went directly for her objective with the intention of getting this over and done with as soon as she could so that she could head back to rejoin her friends. "So... does being your first fan come with exclusive perks like your name and maybe your number..?"

... Okay, maybe Steven hadn't been joking. He might actually have a legitimate fan. This was new territory - but one that Darren was more than happy to explore. Relaxing a bit, he smiles and nods his head. "Sure, I can do that for you," He chuckled.

"Yeah, it does come with a couple perks. Name's Darren, Darren Waughner." Holding out his hand he watched her with a rather bemused grin. "Just toss me your phone and I'll put my number in for you." He chuckles. "That way you won't have to worry about transposing any numbers."

Watching her, he noticed her hair and reached out almost absently, pushing a little of it out of her face and behind her ear. "I like your hair. It natural?" He liked the blue, it was a nice touch. It matched her eyes, which to him was totally killer. "It matches your eyes, which looks amazing I must say."

This was all too easy so long as she put her mind to it. Hafwen smiled wide to herself, already thinking that she had this in the bag as she reached for her phone so that she could hand it over to Darren. Looking back now, why on earth did she get cold feet over this rather silly act was beyond her but she supposed that it didn't really matter any longer so long as she got what she came here for and ensured that there was no way that the drummer could track her down or something along that line.

"Lovely. Mine's Yvette, Yvette Gildford." The white lie rolled smoothly from her lips, her eyes meeting his briefly as she handed her phone over and waited. Or at least that was what she had in mind when s**t started to get too real for her own comfort as evident by the sharp intake of her breath accompanied by the widening of her eyes when he almost harmlessly reached over to tuck a lock of her hair behind her ear for her.

"Mmm... it is. I... thank you." Sputtering over her words was the best she could do for now as she momentarily stood rooted to the spot, an unreadable expression on her face as a faint blush began to colour her cheeks.

Taking her phone, he popped open her text messages and texted himself with her phone, pulling his own out, he saved her number into his phone before saving his own into hers. "There you go," He smiled at her as he handed her phone back.

"You're very welcome, hopefully I will see you around here more often? We play Monday, Wednesday, Friday over the summer, and every other weekend all year." He chuckles as he watches her blush. She was cute. He had a cute fan. He could get used to this. Taking her hand, he kissed the back of it along her knuckles - you know, like a classy gentleman.

Because Darren was classy.

"Say, want to do something after we finish our gig? This will probably be our last set till dinner hour, so I'm free for a few hours..."

Mission accomplished. Time for Hafwen to pull back pronto, get herself out of this fast becoming awkward situation lest it started to take an ugly turn since one could never know with these musician guy types. "I'll have to see if I can drop by in between summer school and assignments. You know how it's like..." She dropped the excuse on Darren, her tone tentative yet apologetic as she made a mental note of the days the band was playing so that she could avoid the place and minimize her chances of running into him again, not fancying at all the likely scenario of having to explain her sudden 180 degree change in attitude and behaviour towards the drummer should that ever come to pass.

"I um..." She had to conscientiously make an effort to not immediately pull her hand back and wipe the back of it on the back of her shorts as a result of his kissing it, the blush dusting her cheeks taking on a deeper shade when she heard her friends cheering from their seats at the sight they made. She did not do all this in the spirit of entertaining them damn it!

"My friends are over there so it might be kind of um... hard." Smiling sheepishly, she inclined her head towards them, her head hanging a little lower as she made another attempt at escaping the boy who was obviously crushing on her. "Sorry..."

Darren tried very hard to suppress a frown that was starting to form out of the grin on his face. Shrugging a little he chuckles. "Yeah, I guess... I mean - the gigs keep us pretty busy." He laughed a little at her friends reaction, nodding his head in the direction of the table.

"Those friends? I don't know - sounds to me like they approve." Darren smiled softly but all the same, released her hand and bowed a little. "But I can understand the sentiment. Maybe another time? I would really like to get to know you better, Yvette."

With that, he winks at her. "Ah, but first I owe you a song, no?" Taking a small step back he smirks. "I'd better go finish getting set up. I hope you stick around for this last set. It's been great talking to you and I'd like to do so some more."

With that, he turned head headed back over his drums, finishing the last bit of prep before the set started.

Hafwen wasn't really sure how she should react to Darren's words at this point, not wanting to lead him on further nor pull the plug on the act right here and now in a public place. Settling for a smile in the end, she nodded, a wave of relief washing over her when the drummer decided to take his leave so that he could finish getting ready for the next set. "Yes. Thank you. We'll definitely stick around till the end of it at least. It's been a pleasure speaking with you, Darren."

Plastering a wide smile of victory in getting what she had approached him for, she returned to her seat and her friends, her earlier awkwardness at not knowing how best to handle the unwanted attention from the drummer momentarily forgotten as she tucked in on her share of the food that had arrived during her period of absence from the table.

Once the band was all set up and ready to begin their next set, Darren motioned for Steven, who played head guitar and also happened to be lead singer, to toss him the mic.

"Alright, ladies and gents - this is the time when we'll start taking requests. We can play pretty much anything from classic rock to more contemporary power metal... In fact, our first request is just that."

Darren grinned and before he tossed the mic back to Steven, he decided to add on a little bit of a dedication. "For my #1 Fan, you know who you are, my blue-haired beauty."

With that, he tossed the mic back to Steven and sounded the band off, before playing his drums like he had never had before.

He had a fan to impress after all.

Oh. My. God. He really had to go ahead and do it now, hadn't he? Make it known to everyone that this song was dedicated specially to her. Hafwen gaped and stared dumbfoundedly at Darren from where she was sitting. It was gutsy on the boy's part. She would give him that plus she supposed that it could be worse had he chose to point her out and name her in front of everyone, though with the amount of ruckus her friends were making since they obviously knew who the mysterious blue-haired beauty was, the anonymity might not remain for long.

Smiling politely at all of them, she held onto her drink and sipped slowly from it, opting to feign indifference although she wanted nothing more than to curl up beneath the table and die from all the unwanted attention she was getting at the moment. This was all the stupid boy's fault. Even if she had to admit that he was talented with the impressive and flawless drum play in this piece, it didn't mean that she was about to join her friends in swooning at his feet and start bugging him for a date. Hell would freeze all over before she would even contemplate something like that ever.

As the song finished up, Darren cast a glance over at Hafwen or rather "Yvette" attempting to make eye-contact and give her a knowing smirk. Obviously he'd intended for her friends to realize who it was he'd dedicated the song to. There weren't that many blued haired girls in the building. Regardless, soon the next request came in - and he had to play again.

Another half hour passed by and Darren nodded to Steven who tossed him the mic.

"Alright folks, that's it for us till about 6:30, So swing on by for dinner - it's two-for-one night, tonight. Two entrees for the price of one! Let's give our proprietor Mr. Tolentino, a big hand!" Darren put on his best pitch voice, trying to sell as many dinner seats as possible.

After all, he got about a 5% cut of the nights profits that got split with the rest of the band so, it wasn't too bad. Beat busing tables and washing dishes that was for sure.

His eyes once again sought out "Yvette" hoping he could catch her before she left so he could try and seal the deal on a date.

Cause she was cute - and like hell he was going to let an opportunity like that slip away.

The smirk that Darren sent Hafwen's way did not go unnoticed by her and her friends, which only made the blue-haired girl cringe inwardly though she offered him a weak smile for his efforts before sinking further into her seat when the next request came up, trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible. This was shaping up into a total disaster. She could already see where this was going and she honestly wasn't looking forward to sticking around to have this whole thing blow up in her face later on.

Suddenly not so hungry anymore, she spent the next half hour idly pushing around what was left of her food on the plate with her fork, biding her time as she waited for the band to stop playing so that she could quickly excuse herself before Darren sought her out on his own initiative this time round. When the drummer started making his announcement, she tightened her grip on the strap of her duffel bag, waiting for him to be done following which she stood up and started making her way to the exit.

"Got to swing by the post office on my way back. I'll see you peeps at training tomorrow then. Later!" It was a lame excuse but it certainly beat creating a scene in front of everyone if the dark-haired youth were to approach her again in front of all her friends and she found herself caught in a situation of having to pick between pleasing them or him during the course of her subsequent interactions with him.

Darren had tried to make his way through the crowed to get to "Yvette" but he had no luck parting the mass of bodies that had gotten up to talk to the other members of the band. A few of the girls who he knew were groupies of the guitarist and bassist were practically forming a wall around the impromptu stage area they had set up.

Grumbling, he finally managed to make his way through the press - but by the time he got through, she was already long gone. Cussing a little, he chewed his cheek and whipped out his phone.

Text to 'Yvette'
Hey, sorry I didn't manage to catch you after the show. We should hook up and have some coffee or something sometime. My treat. - Darren.

Hafwen was already on the bus when the tone that corresponded to the arrival of a text message came from her phone. Skimming through the text, she contemplated letting Darren in on the truth of the situation then remembered that her friends were still there which would make that a very bad idea to follow through with.

It was with a frown that she opted for the alternative of ignoring his text entirely, pressing the button to delete the message as she leaned back in her seat and tried to put the entire incident behind her then ponder over what she intended to do for the rest of the evening.
