To give her a break from fighting all the dragons, Daesat had decided to set Xenosa up with something that would help her later on. While it was probably just as dangerous as going out and hunting the Ysali, capturing a Vlidean would not only be difficult but also prove to be quite the challenge, but it would serve Xenosa greatly in the end if she succeeded. Dae had said she would teach her little bits here and there about the animals, but the rest Xen would have to learn on her own from observing the creatures themselves. The apprentice did not see the need for an animal, but it seemed like an interesting assignment none the less.
As it happened, Daesat only taught Xenosa how to find the beasts and briefly mentioned they had the same temperament as her. Then the instructor had pointed some out, requested Xen find an egg if she wanted to keep her fingers and walked away. The Orderite looked at the bird like creatures from far, they seemed to be quite flamboyant in coloration, but they seemed pretty enough. Okay so maybe she did want one, only thing was finding a nest where the eggs were left unprotected…
Getting to the eggs were the first challenge Xenosa had to tackle, and while heights weren’t exactly her kind of thing, she climbed up some of the large trees as silently as she possibly could. Some of the birds were busy squawking at each other and when everything had gone silent is when Xenosa looked up and around. Some had turned to watch her, she was still far enough but some of the birds had settled themselves right in her path as if to block her. Cursing out loud, Xenosa climbed right back down until they all began squawking at each other.
Her next few attempts at invasion were also thwarted, and she’d narrowly escaped some of their aerial attacks. Granted, she knew she had some scraps and cuts that would need tending to when she got down, the bruises were already starting to show anyways. As much as she tried, Xenosa could not even get close enough to observe the creatures to collect some information on them for the better part of the day; it was the most frustrating tasks yet. However, hard headed as she was, she wanted to prove Daesat wrong and show her she could do this.
Of course, even observing them from the ground up proved to be hard. Xenosa came to the conclusion that she either had to be extremely lucky to even get near them, or she was going to have to figure out something else. By the time the sun was setting, Xenosa returned to Daesat empty handed, the instructor laughed and patted her on the back. The smaller Orderite wasn’t too sure as to why her instructor was laughing, but figured it was probably another one of her impossible training exercises she gave Xenosa. Xen was really starting to loath those.
