Grimm nuzzled the sleeping Iota lovingly before lifting himself from her side. His gaze scanned over the foals once to make sure they were asleep and at peace before letting himself leave them. He had only planned on going to get a quick drink of water, but as he crested the hill, he saw flames in the distance. But they weren't moving, and they weren't spreading, which meant they likely belonged to an unwelcome stallion: Ruin. The biological father of Lacey's sons, likely there to claim a son or two. The straw-covered stallion descended, heading towards the flame. Ruin wasn't coming closer. Was he waiting for Grimm? He didn't say anything until he was close enough to speak in a normal voice and be heard clearly. "Waiting for someone?" he asked casually, not a drop of fear in his voice.

Ruin stood at his spot, his hooves burning holes in the ground. He could read the heat signatures not far off that signaled his sons, their bright scorching heat glaring up into the air. He had thought about turning around and just leaving... that is, until that kretin decided to approach, and then more sinister thoughts began to creep into his mind. This hay covered male had been getting close to Lacey and her kids, not straying far from them... And Ruin had just the way to break that up. He grinned widely as the male came closer, but wiped his face into a clean blank slate of pure chaotic evil as Rumplestiltskin came close enough to read Ruin's expression. "Actually I have a deal for you." He said, snorting out smoke.

Grimm's eyebrow rose, not out of skepticism but rather interest. "Oooh? And what deal would that be?" he inquired. Before Ruin could, however, he added, "Please remember that I am allowed to reject a deal if I do not wish to perform its requirements." He smiled. "Legalities aside... Grimm Fate, at your service," he said with a bow.

Ruin grinned and leaned closer to Grimm's height as he was a very big demon, and this hay-stallion looked as if he could be blown over by a stiff wind. "Actually... this is a deal you cannot refuse. I shall not harm Lacey, her siblings, her mother, or her children, ever. However, you must leave Lacey and the foals without telling her why or any hint of this deal, and never see her again." He stated, his eyes glinting evilly. "Should you refuse, of course, I shall bring a legion of my personal assistants up here with me and we shall burn everything, from Lady Dea's house to these fields we stand upon, and I will make sure that everyone but my foals are included in that fire, am I understood?" He asked coolly.

Grimm's casual smile vanished from his face. He was quiet for several moments, his gaze hidden by his brown, straw-filled bangs. "... You are understood," he replied calmly. "You will not harm Iota or her family on the condition of my absence from her and the children's lives, as well as my silence in relation to this contract. My breaching of this contract in any form will result in a massacre of your creation."
He lifted his head, his olive-green eyes locking with the flaming stallion's in a dark, simmering glare. "And if you should breach this contract in any form, Adramelech," he added darkly, "Then I will make you wish you were still under your master's thumb in hell." Composing himself, he continued, "I would like to request an additional day for both of us to... contemplate this deal."

Ruin grinned as Grimm ran through the deal, seeming as if he would take it, not that he had a choice, then.. That name. That cursed name that sent chills down his spine and reminded him of his days as a foal.
"The fire, burning at first but suddenly.. warm welcoming.. like a heartbeat, except he was born without. The strong and firm grip of the fire demon that grasped him, so young and small, all spindly legs and no meat on him. He was yanked out of the very fires that gave birth to his brothers, but unlike them, he was different, special even. Instead of the fires leaving a fly encrusted corpse of a body, or some other deformity, it took the foal as its own, ripping its way inside until the only thing that the demonic foal had left was flames within. His whole body was flame, not a lick of bone or skin, just flames that took the shape of a young colt.
All too soon, he was thrust to the ground, something hard, heavy, and painful strapped excruciatingly tight onto his back. Another being approached, with wings as black as the new foal's morning dew soul, a sinister gaze that seemed to hold pride four his four apprentices who had bravely pulled out the little colt and his brothers. He rested beside the flamer with the two legs and giant hands that had brought the little colt out of the womb of his mother, hand rested on the shoulder that was nothing but flame, though he was not hurt as he gazed down at the colt. "Welcome to a life of servitude in my castle, Adramelech."
Ruin held back his growl and gazed passively at the straw-stallion. "I need no more time. I shall give you til morning. If you do not show, I shall begin my destruction at noon." He said before turning away.
------------
Roman turned away and headed back down the hill to momma and Remus, fairly sure that he should not have seen that meeting.

Grimm could almost see the memories flashing in Ruin's mind in the silence that spanned between them for those few moments. He slowly nodded to the stallion's words. "Very well." He turned and walked back towards his temporary home, his heart aching. He'd told Lacey that he'd stay as long as she wished, but... above that was his promise that he'd do everything in his power to protect her sons. Although they would be physically unscathed in a razing fire, their minds would be tainted with sorrow and hatred...
He felt no remorse for causing Ruin to relive bad memories. This deal dredged up the pain and emotions from a time even Ruin's mortal form would not know. A time when the undead were still alive, long before the war between human-loving and human-hating Azrien began... Memories of a love lost and a love tainted haunted him with every step. He... couldn't refuse the deal. As much as he wanted to, he couldn't. Grimm would not put another through the pain of outliving everyone they loved.
He resettled himself beside Lacey, closing his eyes and quietly inhaling her scent. This... was going to be the last time, wasn't it? That he'd be able to do this, just lay there, share body heat, enjoy the comforting presence of someone precious...

Lacey sleepily moved and blinked her eyes in Grimm's direction, unaware of what had gone on, though there was a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. "Is everything okay?" She asked drowsily.
Roman tucked himself beside Remus, his wings folded tightly around himself.

Grimm smiled reassuringly, his haunting thoughts hidden by the relief that came when Iota's voice cut through them. "Everything's fine," he reassured her quietly, as to not wake Remus. "I was just getting a drink." He nuzzled her softly, letting himself be distracted by Iota while he still had time. "We should both get some more sleep," he murmured against her neck. Eventually he would slip away and meet with Ruin again, but for now... for now he would let himself live in this impossible dream for a little longer.

Ruin waited in the same spot, almost as if frozen like a statue as he waited for the sun to rise. When the sun crested the hill and sprayed its radiant beams down on him, he waited for a few moments longer before he turned, but the sight of the stallion coming stopped him and he grinned. The deal was done. Well almost. It wouldn't be completed until both their blood spilt on the ground.

Grimm had none of his earlier warmth or even his casual air as he approached, eerily stoic as he stopped in front of the flaming stallion. He took a piece of straw-spun gold and tossed it onto the ground between them. Then he uttered words that he regretted the instant they came out of his mouth:
"I agree to the terms of the contract."
It was done. With those words, even if Ruin required further proof of contract through blood or other means, it was set in stone. The dream Grimm had been living in with Lacey and her children was finished. This time, he'd resisted his selfish desires. He could only hope that Lacey... that Iota could forgive him. No, he couldn't hope for that. He hoped she could find peace. Whether it was with her family, or... or a mate, he hoped that someone, somewhere, could remove the pain his leaving would cause her.

Ruin grinned and dipped his head. "We must spill blood and then we shall be done." He made a gesture, motioning for Grimm to let him close enough so he could sidle up next to him and cut his foreleg with a spike on his saddle. He then leaned down and bit down sharply on his leg, spilling his own blood onto the ground. "The deal is done." He said, before turning and leaving.

Grimm reacted with nothing more than a twitch of his eye when he was cut. No, he would give Ruin as little satisfaction from this as possible. His gaze fell on the blood-covered gold. He dug a small hole in the dirt, burying the accursed thing. "It is done," he agreed quietly as he turned to go away from both Ruin and the family that had welcomed him as one of their own. "And I hope that you one day regret this contract as much as I do."

Ruin snorted and only returned home. As he walked away was the only time he allowed the thoughts of hurt and confusion at Demoni's absence cloud his mind. Where had Demoni gone and why had he left, and was he coming back?
