Bailey knew little of foals and how they came about, her lack of relationship with her mother and the lack of younger siblings left her with nothing to go by. She had only noted she was starting to get fat, and she had only noticed that earlier when she had gone to a small pond near where she now lived with Laures, her mate.
The thought of her mate made her smile as her heart flutters, she adored him so. Though she was now worrying that he would notice how big she was getting, her mother had told her she was tubby already, and from the taunting she knew males did not like fat mares. At least her mother had said as such. She was almost ready to cry at the thoughts of loosing Laures because of this, what was she going to do?
Sniffing delicately, trying not to cry, struggling to breathe normally, her chest hurt. She had no idea that her getting fat was all tied in with her emotions and how they seemed over the top in intensity. Not quite smothering a sob as she wandered into their home, hoping Laures did not see her so distressed, or her large state. She would die if she lost him, her prince. He had saved her in more ways than one, she had to please him she had to, she just had to eat less! It was that simple.

With all the time they had been spending together, Laures was falling even more for his princess. She was the light of his life, and he adored her with every fiber of his being. He couldn't even begin to imagine his life without her in it. Not anymore. Before her, his life was dark and empty, although Solas had done her best to fill those holes, but there wasn't a lot that she could do. But now, now he was happier than he could ever remember being. He had his familiar and he had his mate.
Mate. The word was still enough to make him feel like a giddy colt. He hadn't felt this way since Corteza, long before he had made his way to the kawani lands. The thought still gave him a twinge, but now, with Bailey just being there with him, the painful memories of his past were becoming just that, memories. Not that he would share those memories with her. He would do just about anything to protect her from any and all hurt. If it was possible, he would create the perfect world that Bailey envisioned. If it was up to him, he would do anything, give her anything, and it wouldn't be enough for the joy she brought him just by being there with him.
It hadn't been long enough for her to start showing yet, but she had started to get that glow that only pregnant females got. Not that he could recognise it as such. It had been long enough that he couldn't tell what it was. All he knew was that she seemed to get more and more beautiful each day.
He entered the glen carrying a small bouquet of flowers for Bailey, bright little flowers from the meadow where they first met, even if she still wasn't aware that it had been him, that he hoped would make her smile. He loved to see the smile that lit her face like the sun. But the sniff made him stop, worried. What was wrong? Why was she upset? Was it something that he had done? He stepped forward delicately still hold the flowers. Reaching her side he placed the bouquet on the ground next to her and nuzzled her affectionately.
'Is something wrong, love?'

Turning her head into his neck, nuzzling against him, sniffing again, breathing in with sharp pants as she tries not to cry too much. "Don't look at me, please don't." A sob escaping as she presses closer to him, seeming to be seeking comfort without realising she was doing so. "I'll fix it." She had managed to settle against him without doing any harm to the flowers he had brought to her, she hadn't noticed them yet though.
Nuzzling a little under his mane, trying to hide from his sight so he didn't see her roundness. Quieting down after a while, being so close to him was soothing her, her breathing calming, still sniffing now and then but she wasn't sobbing any more and while still damp she was no longer crying. "I couldn't live without you." What she had been told battling in her mind with what she knew of him. She couldn't picture him leaving anyone that he seemed to love as much as they loved him. But still her mothers words taunted in her mind, that he being a male would abandon her for getting bigger.
Finally she lifted her head from under his mane, seeing the flowers he had brought to her, feeling a tingle of hope. Her eyes finally lifting to his face, looking at him, offering a small watery smile. "Thank you, those flowers are lovely." Shifting so she could lean down to inhale the scents of them, unconsciously giving a better view of exactly what she was trying to hide from him.

Laures hated to hear anyone cry, and each of Bailey's tears was like a dagger to his heart. He felt helpless. And when she asked him not to look at her, he felt distressed, confused. What was going on? Had he done something so terrible? Was this somehow his fault?
He started to think about his behavior. Had he done anything truly offensive? He hadn't left the glen or her for very long, and he always returned. In fact he had become much more content to stay in one place. But perhaps she did not like the change? But he was there for her more often, and he thought that was something that was appreciated.
As he wracked his brain trying to figure it out, he absently nuzzled her as she cuddled close to him, even as she tried to push him away. He didn't quite catch what she said until the ' I couldn't live without you.' He grew more puzzled. He wasn't about to be going anywhere, that he knew of. So, was she? Was she sick and trying to tell him that she was dying? Worse and worse scenarios ran through his mind and he tried to pull her closer with his wings. As if by his presence alone he could keep his worst fears and imaginings for being true.
As she shifted to smell the flowers he brought, he caught a glimpse of the slightest bulge in her stomach. A niggling thought teased the back of his mind, where he hid the memories of a time that lead to only tragedy. He remembered a pain in his past that was tinged slightly bittersweet. Slightly pudgy. Check. Rampant hormones. Check. A glow. Check. His eyes widened, though he refused to allow himself to hope.
He had always wanted, and then the tragedy and he thought he would never, but she was showing certain symptoms…. He took a deep breath and tried to keep his voice steady and his hopes from getting too high.
'Are you with foal?'

Bailey being nieve and a bit of a loveable ditz at times looked at him puzzled, and then looked around, trying to see what he had spotted, not seeing a foal. "I don't remember seeing any foals today, I walked to the little pond... Did one follow me home?" Looking at him again after her looking around, not connecting her getting bigger to foals. She would probably be embarrassed if she knew what her mistake was, but what she had told him about her past so far would imply that she hadn't encountered such before, or if she had her questions had gone at best unanswered, possibly ridiculed.
Her confusion helping to calm her even more, leaning closer again and nuzzling his cheek and then upper neck. Much more tranquil now that she was close to her mate, and he seemed more normal since her distress had eased. Well almost normal, there was still that tone in his voice when he asked about if she was with a foal. Glancing around again, resting her cheek against his neck wondering if he wanted a foal of their own and that was why he was asking. "Did you want foals of our own, is that why you asked if I was with one?" He could probably feel her cheek warm against his neck where it was resting as she blushed.

It was one of the things he loved best about Bailey, her innocence, but there were times when he despaired of her. How could she not fell if she were in fact with foal? How could she not… know? There had to be a reason, and probably one related to their pasts, which happened to be a topic which they both studiously avoided. There were enough skeletons in both their pasts that it seemed would need to be brought to light. And sooner now, rather than later as he had hoped.
But seriously, he did not want to have to be the one to explain to Bailey how the birds and bees worked. But for now, he would answer her questions and try to keep her from having hysterics. He would save his own for after she had calmed down, if his suspicions were in fact correct. And preferably far away. He didn't wish to cause her any distress.
He did have to smile some at her question, not to ridicule her, but because she was so precious at times. 'No I don't think any followed you home,' he looked around though to be absolutely certain. He wouldn't be surprised if a foal did follow her home. 'No I don't see any… Though that is not exactly what I meant. ' And perhaps it was best to leave it at that… if only for a moment, in order to address other issues here.
As he had not mentioned his previous family to Bailey and she had no way of knowing… this question was a loaded one, and for a moment he forgot to breathe. Did he want a family? Of course he did. But his heart became lodged in his chest. He had not forgotten the excitement and sheer terror he had felt when he found out Tezza was expecting. And then the soul-wrenching pain when he lost them. Did he want a family with Bailey? Absolutely. But did want to risk losing her as well? The thought terrified him. He couldn't even begin to imagine what his life would be like if he lost his princess.
'I… I would love if we were to have foals.' He stammered as he felt himself blush. 'W-would, would it please you if we were to have foals?' Then he moved slowly away from her, careful to end their cuddle so as not to seem like he was pushing her away or something like that. That was the last message he wished to convey, especially given the subject they were discussing. He bent to nuzzle her side hoping to feel the movement of foals if indeed she was pregnant. But perhaps it was too early for that yet. But deep in his heart, he hoped, and prayed.
