Tuck never thought that he'd find the sort of camaraderie he had on the island. Things were as perfect as they could be considering the threat of death that constantly loomed. He felt invigorated. He was sleeping well. He felt worthy and happy, and all of the brighter, more positive emotions that he hadn't allowed himself to feel in a long, long time. Tuck could attest all of this to one little blonde.

As long as he didn't think about what decisions he'd have to make when it came down to live or die, Tuck could handle it.

Sometimes in the creeping hours of early morning, he'd be awake while Heidi slept, watching her curled up against him like a little cat. During those hours, the darker thoughts would come - and he'd force himself to think about them. What would he do if something happened to her? What would he do if saving her, protecting her, meant breaking an order given to him by a superior? Could he do it? Would he do it?

He didn't like where those answers led him.

Today Tuck wasn't going to think about all the shitty s**t. The thoughts were there, yes, always there, but today Tuck was on a mission.

Operation: Surprise Girlfriend.

He knew that she had minipet poop duty, and he'd had lighthouse duty - which left him plenty of time to do set up before Heidi finished in the labs. Like a little kid, giddy and impatient, Tuck waited for her just outside the lab door. Every now and again he'd peer in the door and beam at her before moving back into the hallway.

Heidi's thoughts were considerably less pained. The biggest concern she had lately was what did Tuck want for dinner? Matilda tried to warn her this peace and quiet wouldn't last forever, that eventually there would be another mission that made the last one look like scareling's play. Heidi shrugged those thoughts off; she would concern herself with them when it was time.

Today minipet duty seemed to translate to how many foxfires could Heidi be squished under before they killed her. The twenty or so foxfires seemed happy to just climb all over the small Moon and sit proudly on her, wagging their little tails and panting happily.

This was truly suffering.

Every now and then she did manage to get free from their puppy pile and that would be when she'd notice Tuck watching her, giving him a grin and a wave until one of the foxfires begged her attention again.

She was so relieved when it was over. The foxfires were put back in their tanks, given head pets and fear treats, and then she turned on her heel and practically ran out.

The first thing she did once she was in the hallway was throw herself at her boyfriend, her arms around his middle and her cheek pressed against his chest. Heidi made the happiest noise in her throat, closing her eyes and just tightly hugging Tuck. "Hi, you~." Heidi nuzzled her face against him. Tuck smelled way better than a herd of minipets. "You missed me that much you were willing to wait forever long for me to finish with the minipets? I could've come out here smelling terrible," she laughed and gave Tuck an affectionate squeeze before she loosened her hold on him enough to lean back. "Have fun at the lighthouse?"

"Lighthouse duty is Lighthouse duty," Tuck laughed and wrapped his arms around his Heidi. "An' I just wanted to catch you before you take off doin' something with anyone," not that he'd expected her to - they were usually pretty good about keeping tabs on one another, "because I'm stealin' you away for the rest of the day."

That said, Tuck dropped a kiss on her lips before hefting her up against his chest.

He took three steps before he paused.

"You do kinna stink," Tuck wrinkled his nose at her. "I'ma drop you off at the dorm, so you can take a shower an' put on somethin' comfortable. We're goin' on a date."

"Ohhh, stealing me? Scandalous," Heidi giggled, sliding her hands up to pull herself up and return the kiss Tuck was giving her. Her only plans had been to grab a snack train some more, shower, and then meet up with Tuck again for dinner. Anything else that happened between now and then would have been just 'whatever happened'.

She tucked her head under his chin when Tuck picked her up, closing her eyes and just enjoying the warmth and comfort of being in her man's arms.

Said warmth and comfort was ruined when Tuck said she stank. Heidi lifted her head to give Tuck a blank stare. "Gee, thanks. Guess I won't be asking if you want to help wash me," Heidi replied in a flat tone, feigning annoyance until Tuck mentioned they were going on a date. She perked up immediately, a huge smile on her lips. "A date? Okay! Define 'comfortable'. Like, my usual? Jeans and a t-shirt?" A date, a date, a date with Tuck~. She loved surprises from him.

Tuck chuckled quietly, taking a moment to press his lips to hers. "Super scandalous," he grinned, the smile immediately leaving his face when she said she wasn't going to ask him to help wash. He was going to pout, he really was - but then she perked up, and Tuck didn't want to press the issue. She was too goddamn adorable.

He continued walking, and it didn't take long for him to reach the dorms.

"Yeah, that's good. Whatever you want. Pajamas, even."

As he neared their end of the hallway, Tuck finally set her down and immediately started kissing any bits of her he could reach.

"You grabbin' clothes from my room or yours?"
PostPosted: Sat Jul 13, 2013 2:39 am

Even pajamas? What did he have planned? She had simply been excited before but now she was curious on top of that. "What're you up to~" Heidi asked with squinted eyes, looking up at Tuck and hoping for some kind of clue. She loved surprises but knowing a surprise was coming her way and not knowing what it was drove her crazy. What kind of date was he taking her on that she could wear anything she wanted, even pajamas? Nothing off island, they had plans for that, or well she had plans for them. She hadn't explored much of the island outside of the main facility and the beach so it made perfect sense there would be places she didn't know about...

Heidi settled on her own two feet, her hands resting comfortably on Tuck's chest while she happily accepted every kiss she was given. "Whoever's room is closest," Heidi answered with a shrug. If it didn't matter what she wore she was totally okay with that, she'd just throw on the first clothes she found. She reached up to pull Tuck in for a kiss, holding him there until she ended it. "I'll see you in a bit, 'kay? Are you going to wait for me here or should I meet you somewhere?"

"It's." A kiss to her chin. "A." A kiss to her jaw. "Surprise, damn it." Finally he kissed her lips.

Tuck looked a little dazed and completely enthralled after the kiss Heidi gave him, a slow grin spreading across his lips. He was crazy about this girl, and everything he did for her he did because he wanted to see that smile and hear that laughter.

"I'm waitin' for you here," Tuck grinned and stepped back, crossing his arms over his chest, "an' I'll be thinkin' about you." His tone made it obvious he'd be thinking about her in the shower. Naked. Tuck's grin grew broader.

At Tuck's emphasis it was a surprise she laughed. Okay, okay. She'd let him surprise her! Geeze, so bossy~.

Heidi grinned up at Tuck when she saw the look on his face after her kiss. She loved that look. She was about to lean in for one more kiss until Tuck stepped back, and she dug in her coat pocket for her room key. Thinking about her? Heidi blinked. One look at Tuck told her exactly what he meant. Clearing her throat, Heidi ignored the heat in her cheeks as she unlocked her dorm. Once the door was open she reached for one of Tuck's hands, placed the key gently in his palm, and then closed his fist around the key. "In case you need some private time while you wait for me~. You could've come with me if you hadn't said I stink." Tuck was given a pouty look for that before she ventured into her room. She returned a few minutes later with her clothes packed in a bag with her toiletries, and before she left she stopped to gesture for Tuck to come closer.

The man was given a sweet kiss against his cheek. "I'll let you shower with me another day," she whispered before she smiled and walked away, heading down the hall to shower. She didn't want to waste time, she wanted to shower and come back quickly.

"Aww, I was mostly just kiddin'," Tuck drawled as he pocketed the key. "An' I like to think I got more self control," he grumbled as she wandered into her room. He waited in the hallway, and when she reappeared and gestured for him to come closer, Tuck moved with a quickness. He made a low, pleased sound at the kiss against his cheek and the whispered promise that came with it.

"Hate to see you go," he called after her, laughter in his voice, "but damn, do I love to watch you leave."

Cliche? Yeah. Campy, absolutely.

But goddamn, he was in a great mood.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 13, 2013 5:45 pm

Heidi smirked at Tuck over her shoulder as he called out to her. That really was one of the cheesiest things she'd ever heard.

She loved it.

She returned as quickly as she could, rushing through her shower and not bothering to dry her hair. Heidi was running a comb through it as she walked down the hall, her hair still soaking wet. She had opted for an overly long black t-shirt with a neck so large it hung off one shoulder, and underneath was her favorite happy ice cream leggings, and then finally a pair of boots. Her favorite pink converse didn't exactly survive the cruise.

It was something of a relief that he had told her she could wear whatever she wanted. She remembered when her best friend started dating her boyfriend, it was like she felt she had to change for him. Suddenly she was spending hours and hours on her hair and makeup, spending so much money on a tiny little black bottle of eye liner that fit in the palm of her hand. And then she completely changed how she dressed, she changed everything. Tuck had no idea how grateful she was that she didn't need to impress him that way. She would but she would prefer to do it on her own terms.

The moment she found her boyfriend she put her comb in her bag and tossed the bag in her room before she slipped her arms around his middle and pulled herself tightly against him, her head against Tuck's shoulder. Heidi was totally ready to go but only after she took advantage of a quiet moment to just hold him and cuddle up to him, nuzzling her face against him.

After a minute she tipped her head back to rest her chin on Tuck's shoulder and look up at him with adoration, a warm smile on her lips. "Mmm..okay~. I'm ready for our date when you are." Heidi leaned back to raise her arms and wrap them comfortably around his neck in face he wanted to pick her up again. It seemed to be something he liked to do lately.

Tuck loved the way she fit against him. It was as if each hard plane and abrupt angle of his body had been molded to fit against her curves and dips. It was a heavy thought, and Tuck shrugged it off. Now was not the time for heavy thoughts. He was in too good of a mood.

Hefting Heidi up in his arms, Tuck headed out of the dorms. His plans had been kind of spur of the moment. During off-time and when Heidi wasn't around, he'd started doing a little bit of exploring around the compounds, and when he'd found this particular spot, he'd kind of impulsively thrown everything together.

"You scared of heights?"

Tuck paused to back into the door of the life labs so that he didn't have to put Heidi down.

She readily settled in Tuck's arms as he picked her up. Heidi's eyes were closed, her head resting on his shoulder and one hand rubbing his opposite shoulder and the side of his neck. "Nope, heights don't scare me..." Wait. Heights? Why?

Heidi opened her eyes and lifted her head. They were in the life labs..whaaaat was he up to? Were they going up onto the roof or something? "Climbing trees was one of my favorite things to do as a kid." She shrugged. "Whyyyy~?" Even if Tuck had said it was a surprise she was still going to ask.

"So noooosy," Tuck chided his girlfriend, making his way down a short corridor before making his way to a staircase. They were indeed climbing to the roof - and all of the doors were kept open by carefully positioned rocks. He'd locked himself out earlier, and it was only thanks to a passing hunter that he'd been able to get down. He'd learned his lesson.

Once on the roof, there would be a really rickety looking table (a pack of cards and a thin book kept it upright) that was covered by a rough linen fitted bedsheet. There was a candle that burned on the center of the table (which smelled like cheap cinnamon-apple) - instead of chairs, there were two wooden crates that said POTATOES along the side.

Hey, he'd done his best, okay?

The infamous runic boombox was somewhere nearby, soft music playing gently in the background. There was also a picnic basket near the table. God only knew what he'd managed to scrounge up, but it was sure to be a culinary adventure.

Tuck set Heidi down and swept an arm out, "I figured since we didn't get to dance while we was on that fancy ship, maybe we could have dinner and do some dancin'."

He looked so ******** proud of himself.

"So suspiiiicious," Heidi whined to her boyfriend, tracing her finger along Tuck's jaw line while he carried her up the stairs. She smiled and leaned in to kiss his jaw. She liked this, this quiet time with just him and no one to interrupt them.

Finally they reached the roof and Heidi looked out to see what Tuck had done. She didn't care that the table was balanced by a book and a pack of cards, or that the candle smelled like cinnamon-apple, or that the chairs were crates. She had the sweetest, most thoughtful boyfriend in the whole freakin' universe. He did this. He put all of this together just for him and her, just like he had done for their first date. This was what her boyfriend did, he surprised her with the sweetest things ever and he put so much hard work behind everything he did.

Her heart felt like it was swelling with pure joy just looking at it. Tuck was the best boyfriend ever. The best. Just. The absolute best.

Heidi had the biggest smile on her face as she was put down, looking up at Tuck with nothing but love and adoration again as she had in the dorms. It was a little thing, just a dinner and dancing on the roof of the Life labs, but it was perfect. "O-okay!" She looked out at the little set up again. "Ohmygodyoureallyarethebest!" Heidi squealed, throwing her arms around Tuck in a tight hug.

"You did all this? Ohmygooooosh.."

Tuck wrapped his arms around Heidi and buried his face in the crook of her neck. He lived for this, for her little reactions that just made him feel like the biggest, best man in the whole ******** universe. He knew that she was young enough that she was probably missing out on a lot of s**t - just he like was, just like so many of them were. When she looked as happy as she did when he surprised her, Tuck felt like s**t was almost normal. The fact that she didn't look at the quality of his efforts was just one of many reasons he cared so much about her.

It was ramshackle, rough-looking, imperfect, but his Heidi? She didn't give two ********. It was what he loved most about her.

Tuck cleared his throat and smiled brightly, pulling back enough so that he could press a kiss to her lips.

"I packed some food, too, ain't much but some fruit and some vending machine crap, but I was just. I just wanted to spend some time with you."

He took her hand and led her to the potato crate, "Your seat, beautiful."
