The young mare was excited because today was the day they would be going to the beach. She couldn't wait because it meant spending the whole day with Mikasi having a good time. Then the pressure began to settle within her. Could she actually handle something like this? Could she handle being alone the whole day with him? She didn't know if she could, but she was willing to give it a try. Rising up on her legs, she walked slowly over to the stallion giving him a soft nuzzle. He had healed very well over the past week. So well in fact, that there was barely even a scar now, which made her happy. She didn't want his skin tainted or marked. "Are you ready to hit the road?" She asked him softly looking into the distance unsure of which direction they were going in. Then she felt fear fill her up. Fear of not knowing what was going to happen when they finally reached the beach. But it should all be fine as long as she was with Mikasi right?
Tilting her head at the stallion before her, she felt a small flutter in her chest knowing it was her heart being a pain again. She still didn't know what it was and it only happened when she was close with the stallion. Maybe this is what it felt like between two friends? Sighing softly, she stepped away from the stallion waiting for him to lead the way.

Mikasi had been working to heal and, gather his strength. The past few days the stallion had finally been able to hunt. He'd gorged himself on plump rabbits and, smaller prey. The nuzzle stirred Mikasi'Nell just enough to cause a yawn and, a stretch. "Mm..yes. Let's get going.." Despite the calm words he too felt a fluttering inside and, just hoped the day went well. Rain's Song lay nestled within the males mane, too lazy to be up so soon. Even if the injury had healed well..he still stood slowly, and made sure to stretch the muscles. A weakness wouldn't do..not when Mikasi wanted to be a good provider for years to come. "Are you excited?" Smiling he nosed against the mares warm neck, spending a moment next to her before leading the way. "I've heard a few stories of what the beach is like..we will know the way based on the scent. It should smell salty and, the earth will become soft..grainy." He imagined it would also be hotter than it was among the forest, did trees grow on a beach? Would they be exposed? Hopefully there were no beach type predators..Mikasi would fight if needed but, would rather have a fun relaxing day.

Astraea was trying her best to hide her excitement, but it wasn't working out too well. She was smiling a lot more then usual and she was feeling a little too antsy for her own good. She followed him closely making sure she kept her eye out in case there was something that decided to attack them. "Yes I am...I'm trying not to be excited, but I am. It's kind of like a date...and if so this is the first one I have ever been on." She told him softly making sure she kept a close pace with his. "Are you excited?" She asked giving him yet another smile feeling the soft nuzzle into her neck making her heart flutter once more. "I guess we will find out what this beach is like with our own two eyes. I haven't heard any stories about the beach..so everything is new to me." She told him and the only thing she knew it had was sad. Other then that it was a completely mystery to her. "This...this will be the farthest I have traveled away from home.." She paused lowering her head for a moment then raising it to look up at him. "I feel like I can do anything with you." It was true. She hadn't felt this alive in a long time. The feeling was just opening her up more and more. "Maybe I can find something to take home as well.." She thought about it and wondered what items a beach would have.

The stallion felt even more joy seeing the one he..loved..so happy. To see her smile more than once in a day, to feel the energy flowing off of her in waves. Yes, he would make today special. No matter what today would be a day they'd remember for the rest of their lives, a day Mikasi swore no one would spoil. A date. This would be his first as well..smiling in reply his eyes met her's gaze warm and open. "This is my first date as well. I'm excited..I couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather spend my day with other than you Astraea" Even her name felt heavenly to speak, it made every part of Mikasi feel whole. "I'm sure there will be many odd things we can take home. That's why he had brought the small pouch slung about his neck instead of the trinkets he typically wore. The journey was lovely, nothing interrupted them and even when it was quiet he felt a sense of peace. That there was no need to fill the silence with chatter, that they were comfortable together. The air gradually shifted to a more hot salty scent, it intrigued the stallion but, he kept pace so as not to make Astraea walk too fast. "I think we are close.." By now Rain had ruffled her feathers, flown off to find food and returned to perch atop the mares head. She sat gently grooming Astraea's mane..loosening tangles with her beak and chirping softly as if having a conversation with her. The trees were growing less full, more sparse and the ground became rocky which was proving quite annoying for the dual footed male. "Ouch!" Growling low he flicked a few rocks away so his paws would not be all bruised up. Thankfully after a few extra large, rather silly looking strides his feet sank into..sand. A loud crashing noise..the sound of water, the scent of salt all over and a beach glittering with so many curious things! "Astraea! We've made it!" Turning he couldn't help the foal like little gallop across the sand, nor his bright smile and happy laugh as he looked over so many new strangely wonderful things.

The young mare felt her nerves cease the more he spoke to her and just the fact that he was there, made her feel more comfortable. She didn't know what to expect from this day, but she was feeling excited. So excited that she had a small smile plastered on her face. Something you rarely saw with her and it wasn't her fault she was so happy. Being with Mikasi took all her worries away and she could actually feel alive, which was something she hadn't felt yet in her life. She snapped out of her distracted state when she heard him shout. "Are you alright?" She asked not even noticing the rocky terrain at first. "We should find land that won't irritate your feet." She told him calmly feeling Rain untangle the locks of her hair making her happy. It was almost like they had their own little family.
As she stepped on the squishy surface, she was a little confused at first since she was never on anything like this before except for mud. But it wasn't mud. "This surface is so strange.." She said lightly as she walked on a little further. "Yes we have made it. It's so beautiful." She said lightly and felt she could actually live out here if it wasn't for her family. She couldn't leave them in the forest like that. Her father needed one daughter to stick around at least. "If I could move on from the forest...I think I could live out here." She smiled trotting a little further watching the waves come crashing down on the shore. "Is this what you wanted to show me or was there something else?" She asked him keeping her eyes looking out at the ocean feeling her heart flutter a little bit. She never thought she would ever see something like this.

Hearing her say that made the journey ad slight irritation from the rocks worth it. He'd do it a thousand times over if it meant seeing such a smile, such a light in her eyes again. Up ahead his gaze fell to many shimmering colorful things that had his inner 'shiny' complex begging to be let free. "Look at all of it! I agree..I'd live here if we could but, I know family is important." After losing his he most certainly knew how important family was.. How much it hurt to lose family over a choice. Mikasi didn't want the mare to feel that pain..even if it meant living near this marvelous place. "We can come whenever you like.." Rain let out happy and, curious chirps..she too seemed thrilled at the fresh salty breeze. The many little shells and bits of sea glass were thrilling as well. Already the bird had plucked up a small pile near Mikasi's feet. He couldn't help but, laugh "So eager Rain. We can't take the whole beach with us silly bird." It was tempting. He'd need a bigger pouch next time. Hearing the question made him grin even more voice filled with excitement. "The sunset! Let's play and explore and then..we can watch the sunset..others had told me it's magical. Something you need to see at least once in your life." Thus Mikasi spent the next several hours exploring with the one he loved, heart fluttering more and more as the sun dipped and the beach became more cool. Before the sun could set fully he paused in their galavanting about the beach..Rain had heard it too and paused her tiny eyes suddenly frantically looking about. THERE! "Astraea! There's something on the ground up here! it looks hurt!" Worry filled him..Mikasi might eat meat but, he would sooner die than kill without meaning. He'd learned that from attacking the bear..respect for all life was essential. No matter how tiny and, the body up ahead was decidedly tiny. There among the sand lay a bird..it's wing at a strange angle. Weakly chirping and making pained sounds..Rain fluttered down to poke against the little bird's side. She looked like the sand and water..her colors pretty but, more soft than Rain's. "Poor little one..I won't hurt you..you will come home with us. I'm sure we can fix your wing." Leaning near he nose against the soft feathers, then carefully scooped the bird up in his mouth and placed her upon his back. Rain was there to help, just as the sun started to set Mikasi lay upon the warm sand with Astraea..two birds nestled within his feathered mane. "I..I had another reason for bringing you here." Oh gods above and below. How would he say it? Would she be shocked? Would she accept his feelings? Mikasi agian felt like a foal..his courage shrinking like the sun. "I..I love you Astraea.."

Her eyes filled with worry when she heard him say something could be injured. She didn't like seeing anything injured and after the time she cared for him, it was the last thing she ever wanted to see happen to someone else. A frown crossed over her muzzle as she followed closely behind him just in case it was something dangerous or something that could potentially hurt them both by lashing out. She peeked over his shoulder seeing the bird. It was a pretty color and wondered if he was going to nurse her back to health then keep her as another addition to the family. She wouldn't mind another since she was use to having a big family. After all her father's lovemate wanted as many children as he possibly could have. Right now they had a total of seven, who knows how many more will come further down the line. "We should let it stay with us..I wouldn't mind having another bird around and I'm sure Rain could use a friend." She smiled gently nuzzling the injured animal before resting beside Mikasi in the sand.
Then he said something that made her body tremble, her eyes filled with tears and her heart began beating really fast. He said the words she had been waiting to hear from someone for a long time now. Someone who actually cared about her and wanted to spend their life with her. Someone who didn't care about her imperfections or faults, but accepted her for who she was. She wasn't the prettiest mare out there in her eyes, but to him, she was everything he ever needed in a mare. This was what those words meant to her. She felt taken back and unable to speak for a few minutes before turning to him, with a small trail of tears running down her cheeks. "I love you too Mikasi..even if my family doesn't fully accept you. I don't care. I will fight if I have to. You are what I have been waiting for all this time. The one thing that could open me up and make me feel alive again." She said with a gentle nuzzle to his neck.
The day couldn't get much better then this.

When she turned at first and he saw the tear it had frightened Mikasi..but, then he realized they were tears of joy. Much like the ones burning within his own eyes. "Astraea.." Unable to say more he just curled closer..his tail gently curving about her..to keep her warm as the sun set and they shared this special moment. Even the birds went still as they becmae more than what they had been that morning..as they became two halves of one whole. As night fell and stars lit up the sky..as weariness from all the excitement of the day dragged his eyes further downwards, the stallion tenderly nuzzled against his mate..his beloved beauty. Letting out a rumbling sigh of contentment before resting against her for the night. When the stars above shimmered more brightly than he'd ever seen..before sleep could capture him fully in it's warm embrace the male spoke a soft whispered prayer or thanks..of hope for the future. "Let us be together for all eternity..no matter what..even if the earth quakes and the heavens themselves part. I wish to be with her always..to have children with her..as numerous as the stars."

Next morning...Opening her eyes slowly, the young mare rose to her feet trying her best not to wake the stallion beside her. She knew he was tired and the last thing she wanted to do was disturb him right now during his time of rest. So instead, she walked slowly on the vacant beach looking down at the seashells that were stuck in the wet sand wondering a little if she could pick a few up for herself to take home before they left. She loved it here and the smell of the ocean was nice compared to the wood grainy smell she would encounter all the time in the forest. She felt she could come her quite often to get away from everything she was use to. She took in a deep breath before continuing on, making sure he didn't stray too far from Mikasi to make him worry if he did wake up.
She then paused when she noticed something sitting there on the cold wet sand. Was it baskets? They were fairly monochrome in color except for the gem on each as well as the purple feathers. She didn't know what to say or what to think. Was this a gift for them? She looked up at the sky feeling small tears weld up in her eyes before looking back down on the two identical baskets. She didn't know what to say or what to do. She couldn't just leave them there and a part of her felt that they were theirs. That this was a gift from the stars, much like her, and that this was the beginning of a family for them. She felt overwhelmed from all the good things that have been happening in her life recently. The shock of love and now the shock of baskets.
She turned her head and looked at the sleeping Mikasi before opening her mouth. "Mikasi.." She called out to him wondering if he would wake up. Her eyes then fell back on the two basket giving each a gentle nudge before watching them wiggle as if something was inside. The joy of having a family of her own even if she did not know where they came from. That didn't matter to her because she wasn't going to leave them here abandoned like this if it were the case.
Gently and softly, she lowered herself down and nosed the baskets close to her. A feeling a motherhood sweeping over her in the process before letting out a light sigh of relief.
Baskets so similar and identical yet with the faintest difference. The gems were different shades.
One duller....

One brighter....

But both held a beauty that remained their own.

The stallions dreams had been lovely. Filled with imges of what he hoped would be the future..images of his new found love one day rounding with pregnancy. Of her tears and laughter when their first foals pushed the way free from their baskets. The adventures they would have together..not only with children one day but, with finding a way to live among her herd. Of meeting all of the mare's family and hopefully becoming friends with some..or at the very least peaceful. That was his dream. Despite his slumbering Mikasi felt when she left his side, when her heat left him..yet he laid resting a little longer. Knowing they'd need to leave soon..need to go ack 'home'. So he let Astraea explore..listening silently for danger. Prepared should the need arise to fight for the only one he would ever hold so dear. One clal of his name..eyes snapped open, body rising from the sand despite his two little companions chirps of unhappiness at being jostled. "What is it? Are you hurt?!" Seeing that Astraea laid upon the sand with tears upon her face worried him, made his heart hammer away before his eyes caught up. Baskets? Brows furrowing the stallion stepped over to where his love lay, gently lowering his own body to sniff at the tiny bundles of warm whicker. "Baskets? Where did they come from?" Somethng about the two mostly identical baskets made Mikasi feel..protective. Like a father.

Astraea didn’t know how she could answer Mikasi. This was something her two fathers experienced when it came to her and her twin brother. They weren’t identical like these two baskets, but that didn’t matter. Her father’s were given the gift of a family like they had always wanted. That is what was happening to her and Mikasi right now. They were given the opportunity to have a family as if the baskets were left there by fate or perhaps the wish she had thought about days ago. She felt like a mother and hoped Mikasi was willing to take on the role of being their father. She hoped they could raise these baskets together as a family. To give them the love and care they would need growing up. As she eyed Mikasi, her tears began to dry and that sense of happiness still flooded her heart. “I don’t know, but I can’t just leave them alone like this. We can’t leave them alone like this.” She said lightly eyeing the two baskets before giving each a gentle nudge.
Something was telling her that they were hers. She might not have birthed them or finally become one with Mikasi, but she just knew. Those motherly instincts were kicking in and she just knew they were theirs. “I…I think they are ours. A long time ago my father wished..he wished for children and his wish was granted. That is how me and my twin brother came about…I made a wish..and I feel like it has come true.” She said lightly feeling her heart swell from how happy she felt. “We are a family now Mikasi..as long as you want this. As long as you think you can handle this..I would want to raise them together like our own children.” She told him softly moving closer to him and giving a soft nuzzle to his mane.

Mikasi agreed whole heartedly with his beloved mate, they couldn't just leave the two precious baskets there upon the cool wet sand. A predator could find them or the cold could seep into their baskets and make the wicker that protected them weak. Rain was quick to make her was onto one of the baskets, perched there atop one and, then the other. Even she seemed to sense it..seemed to know that these little ones belonged to them, that she wished to protect as much as Mikasi did. In that moment it all felt perfect. they were a family and nothing had ever felt better in all of the stallion's life. "I feel it too. I want to protect them, to keep them close to me and never let them go." Smiling warmly as his heart hammered the stallion stood after nuzzling Astraea in return. "Come my treasure. Let us take our children home to meet their family, they must be cold from laying on the sand." Thankful for his claws the stallion ever so gently scooped up one basket and placed it upon his mates back..smiling at how well the precious gift fit along the curve of her spine. "Easy..there we go..mommy's got you little one." The next part he laid down back in the sand and with Astraea's help nosed the second basket upon his own back. That alone shocked him into stillness..made his eyes close partially feeling the weight, the warmth and the soft thumping heartbeat of the foal. "Daddies got you...." Now he could feel the tears burning within his eyes, blurring his vision as he stood slowly. Rain fussed at them both and kept checking the baskets as the pair made their way towards home. More on edge than usual but, prepared to fight should he have to.

When both baskets were placed on each other’s back, the mare felt a sense of pride hit her. She loved that they were a family now and they were going to be raising two children together. Two children that were given to them, as a blessing and she just knew it was meant to be. They were quickly getting into the role of being a parent just from how the both of them were acting. “I feel like this was meant to be. I feel as if we were meant to have this happen to us and that we were meant to take good care of them.” She remembered when her father would tell her stories of how when he found the two baskets he was overjoyed. He was so happy he finally had more children. More kids that were a blessing to him and that created such a large family. That is what she wanted. A large family. A family that would always be there and would always need her as well as Mikasi. She hoped whatever was in the baskets would want that. She hoped they would want the life they were being given. “I think we should go home and warm them for the night before taking them anywhere else. I don’t want what’s inside to get sick.” She told him softly noses his neck gently enough so that the baskets didn’t move too much. “I love you..and I can’t wait to raise them together.” She smiled feeling like the happiest mare in the world right now.
But this was only the beginning for them. The challenge of parenthood lied ahead.

The journey took longer than he'd thought it would but, thats because he was moving so very carefully..watching his already uneven footing, wary and on edge. Now that they had children..precious gifts from the heavens..Mikasi felt an overwhelming need to protect them. To keep his three precious loves safe from all the darkness of this world. Even if it meant giving up his own life, Mikasi vowed in that instant to protect this family they had been given. "Yes, we are close now. Walk carefully my love. They will be so very loved..I hope we will do a good job.." He'd never spent a long time around foals but, felt a certain curiousity over them. They looked so fragile..he feared harming them accidentally but, would try to get over his foolish insecurities. He had Astraea at his side. As long as they were together everything would be okay, their life wouldn't be perfect but..it would be amazing in it's own special way. Arriving at the little glade/meadow he called 'home' Mikasi turned to gently put first one and then the other basket down. Moving about like a nervous mother hen the stallion swept away any debris with his claws and started 'nesting' gently nudging the fur blanket he'd made for Astraea around the two pale baskets. Lowering down next to the little ones he alos allowed his fluffy tail to brush along the delicate wicker. "There..now we can keep them warm. They will be the most amazing foals ever. Today has been one of the best days of my life." Mikasi meant every word and it was clear in his eyes..the love..devotion. "I love you..always and forever."
