For once the heat outside wasn't so much oppressive as it was like warm towels straight from the dryer, as Stormy would describe it. There was a small breeze that came and went, so the sun didn't quite feel like it was beating down on her as she walked outside. Now was as good a time as ever to try and find something inspiring and write again. Training had happened earlier, and even despite her shower she still felt like sweat was clinging to her--or maybe that was because it was still kinda hot and she was in the sun.

Despite wearing shorts and a tank top, Stormy found the need to fan herself grow exponentially as she moved; not even her hat felt like it was doing much good to keep her cool. She squinted ahead and eyed a few trees, though it was going close to the jungle, which she heard was not quite that safe . . . And she knew for a fact there were still some leftover traps there thanks to the Argus testing. Maybe the beach would be safer?

. . . Unless there were, like, land sharks and mutant crabs or something.

This was not helping her need to learn how to swim, now that she thought about it.

He had taken a while to decipher the text message that was sent to him the day before, but he was here, waiting on his misty division partner. She had asked him to assist her with the swimming thing, and, having actually done a lot of it in his youth during school, he figured he could help her. There was no harm in it, as long as no short british boys came around to nag him for being too close to Stormy.

So, he was sitting at the beach with a little journal in hand, scribbling while he could, in a pair of swimming shorts, which didn't do much to hide his plethora of tattooes, and a summer hoodie, just counting down the time until she showed her face for Operation: Teach Stormy not to drown.

Catching sight of her coming over, he gave her a little wave, in case she hadn't seen him yet, a soft grin on his face. "Decided to make it?" He quipped playfully as he put the book down, leaning forward.

"Eheh, yeah . . ." After quite a bit of humming and hawing, mind, and more than a little trepidation still lingered with her. Stormy's eyes kept flickering from Dorian to the sea, her smile wavering based on the amount of anxiety she felt about the whole situation, which rose and fell with the tide.

She touched at her neck as she approached, trying to steel herself. "Um . . . Are you sure today is a good day?" she asked. "It looks kinda choppy out there. Maybe we should watch the weather for a bit first."

Totally not stalling.

Giving a little snort, Dorian leaned forward a bit, watching her as she stared at the water, before looking to the water himself, giving it a little look.

"If you keep, ehh, 'esitating about it, you will never learn." He stated, peering up at her from his sitting spot, before getting up to his feet, going to lightly scratch at his inked leg. Stretching out, he pointed idly at the water's edge, interrupted by a well deserved yawn. "We can started by going, ehh, ankle deep, oui? First t'ings first, get to know the water." He figured, shrugging it out and starting towards the cut between dry sand and wet, wave soaked edge.

Ankle deep. Right. Oh boy. Stormy hesitated a little more as Dorian moved towards the water, then eventually made herself follow after, hands fiddling with each other. Yes, she could handle ankle deep. Ankle deep wasn't bad. Just as long as those waves didn't look rough or pull her in . . .

She could help but notice the tattoos revealed by his summer wear, however, and if one thing could distract her from her anxiety, it was conversation. "You have tattoos?" Stormy asked curiously. "What kinds? Do you have a lot? Did they hurt? Where did you get them? When did you get them? Oh, if you'll allow it, why too?" All the questions.

Hearing the little statement pipe up from behind him, he tilted his head a little to look over his shoulder at the smaller mist hunter, giving her a wry little smile. Did he have tattooes - it seemed like the most innocent question ever. Laughing lightly, he gave a little shrug of his shoulders, going to remove the summer sweater so he wouldn't get it wet as they battled the great war that was the calmest ocean day, ever.

"Of course I 'ave tattooes." He quipped a bit, doing a little slow spin while she was able to take in everything he had - that he was willing to show. "I 'ave . . ehh, in french it would be, la moitié du corps." A pause. "Body 'alf. All of them 'ave meaning, really. You're welcome to ask about any of them." He figured, going to push further and standing in the water, looking to her.

"One story per step in to l'océan, oui? Good deal? For your first few questions, petits pas. The worse ones where in the crook of my knee and ribs. I do not t'ink mon ami expected all the swearing 'e got." A soft laugh, remembering it as he scratched his head a little."

"Petits pas. Moitié du corps," she repeated slowly, trying out the shapes and sounds as she scanned his body with great curiosity. It was better than what she did for Gale when he had gone about shirtless for the swim competition, which was to say she couldn't look at all, and it was also different because it wasn't so much looking at a body as it was looking at a canvas of skin. Dorian for a moment looked like walking art as she gazed intensely at the patterns, delighted at how they all meshed together.

And they all had meaning, he said. It was a story in picture form. emotion_kirakira

"Wow," Stormy uttered, wide-eyed and barely noticing she had waded into the water. "I think I see the Zelda crest? Whoaaa . . . Okay, um. Start with the one that's your favorite!"

Hearing her try to learn his words made the normally grumpy frenchman's mouth quirk up in to a rare smile - he had been spending so much time learning english, it was weird to know someone was trying to catch french. Taking a few steps forward, he thinkh about her new question, scratching his chin idly, before turning to face her again, finger slowly going to point at the tattoo that almost looked like it was a book peeking from ripped skin, on his upper shoulder.

"C'est ça." He stated shortly, before going to rub against it lightly. "When I started travelling, I found this saying. We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls. It was pretty strong when I 'eard it, so I translated it a few times to get it written like . . . . uhh." He stated, giving it a thought, trying to find the word. "I t'ink the word is mantra. Got it just after I left 'ome. Reminded me why I left."

It seemed weird to admit it so easily to someone, but he figured there wasn't much he could do now.

"C'est ça!" Stormy was particularly pleased to get that one down easier than the other two, saying it under her breath a few more times just to be sure. Learning the words wasn't enough; she wanted to figure out the nuances native speakers had without thinking.

She probably should have been asking what they all meant specifically, but what English major didn't learn through context clues anyway? Besides, Dorian was telling a story sort of! And after being reticent about giving information in the beginning, she was happy to receive even tidbits like this--even if she was dying to know why he wanted to leave home in the first place. "It's a good mantra," Stormy told him with a nod. "A great one, really. I like it~" She would try to commit that one to memory, like all great quotes she stumbled across.

Hesitating, the teen waded a little deeper until the waves were bobbing below her knee. "Next . . . Oh! Were those yin yang fish I saw on your leg?" she prompted.

Dory couldn't help but feel a little shied about someone being so interested in him and his body-art, picking his language up and being generally curious. He didn't get that often, and normally he was a little anti-social about the whole situation. But, this was Stormy, and she was pretty sincere about it all. Not to mention, up to her knees of water, making him feel pretty proud of her work - she was trying, and he had to give it to her.

Hearing the question about his leg, he lightly shifted to balance on his inkless leg, lifting it up to sort of look over the marking in question, eyebrows raising a little. It was almost embarrassing to admit what he was going to, but he could only shrug a little as he lowered his leg again, taking another step or two, because of their agreement.

"'Ave you ever seen Avatar; you know, the one wit' Aan and whatnot." He asked, raising his eyebrows a little, eyes turning after a moment, almost shyly. "Tui et La. I am a Pisces, et le singe is two fish, oui? I figured 'aving the ocean et moon spirits would be pretty cool." He finished, shrugging a bit again.

"Seems silly sometimes, mais, I really do like 'aving them on my leg."

She was embarrassed to not have recognized not only characters from Avatar, but the Pisces symbol. "Tui and La, push and pull," Stormy recited, swaying a little with the waves. Here they couldn't so much force her either way as they could nudge her, thankfully; otherwise Dorian would be dealing with one freaked out Mist. Her arms remained slightly extended anyway, just for the sake of helping her balance.

"It isn't silly at all!" Stormy declared with a bright look. "If something has meaning to you, then it's perfect. If anything, using dual symbols from one thing to represent the dual symbols of another things totally just doubles the duality twice over!" And she broke into a giggle at her own unfailing logic. "I'm actually a Pisces too, I can't believe I didn't recognize--"

A stronger wave than usual pushed her forward and then tugged her back, causing the rest of her sentence to be choked off by a frightened yelp. O-Oh God, what touched her leg, WHAT TOUCHED HER LEG?? Seaweed. O-Okay. False alarm.

"You, um, didn't strike me as the kind of guy who'd watch those sorts of shows," Stormy admitted, looking sheepish after her little outburst.

Dory really did love how open Stormy was about everything she talked about, when she opened up to someone. Everything had heart, and he really didn't think she could hide anything from those closest to her. The short angry brit that was around her was a lucky man, and he hoped that he knew that.

Giving a little rare laugh, he shrugged his arms a little, wading through the water a little further, as she went on about duality even further. "I can one-up that, mm? I am also an Aquarius. 'Ow do you say it again?" He asked her, raising an eyebrow as if to show he was seriously questioning it. "Eh, ah.. cusp? Cusp born. So I guess I am made for water." He admitted, smirking a little, before she sheepishly talked about his love for the shows.

"What is that saying in english. Don't judge a book by is cover? I may look rough and tumble, mais, I am a sucker for kids and teens shows. W'en I was a kid, it was all about Power Rangers. I 'ad TV every Saturday on it." He admitted, before turning around to view her face-on.

"We are to walk to our 'ips." A pause. "H-h-hips." He wanted to make sure the word was understood, so he elongated the H. "It won't 'urt, I promise. Then we will start with the lesson."

Yup, still looking pretty sheepish here. "Don't judge by the cover. Right. C'est ça," Stormy repeated with a nod, hoping she could excuse the blush for the sun bearing down on them.

But hey, astrology! Zodiacs! Yes, distract from the really dumb judging thing! "Awesome!" she cooed, as if being cusp born was a talent. "Clearly that's why you're the best teacher for this, huh?" This. Swimming. Oh, God.

To the hips, Dorian instructed. Reluctantly, to the hips she went.

Stormy looked openly apprehensive now that the water was lapping at her stomach, the waves less pushing and pulling than they were beginning to gently slap her. To the hips for who, though? Dorian was taller, he could go deeper than she could . . . So she stayed where she was once the water went over her own, arms still stretched out like she was waiting to take flight. They hadn't even started the lesson yet ahahahahah.

< < Stop whining, > > Thane snapped.

Okay, okay, deep breaths. Stop freaking out over water, girl.

"I-I was born on Leap Day," Stormy told him to distract herself. "Just by a few minutes! Double Pisces. Um . . . I didn't get into things like Power Rangers really, but I was a Pink Ranger for Halloween once? A lot of the time when I turned on the TV, it's 'cause my brother wanted to watch Pokemon or Transformers . . ."

"I t'ink I was uh. . . " a pause, throwing back a few years. "Pisces-Aquarius and Virgo, I believe" he offered, giving her a little shrug. It seemed like a full house, to him.

"Leap Day, really?" He asked, eyebrows raising a little. He had never actually met a leap year baby, but he found it remarkably interesting, his head tilting just a little. "Do you celebrate on March 1st or February 28th?" He asked. It seemed like a serious question (for personal reasons, he may be mentally marking it down.)

He had stopped when it hit her hips, knowing that she was so very apprehensive about this in the long run. But, he had promised her swimming, and swimming he would.

"Alright, so the best way to start is . . . uh. In french it's said, faire la nage du chien. Dog Paddle, oui?" He voiced out, as if he had to believe himself, before nodding. "So what we will do is, get on our knees, et, lightly paddle forward with our 'ands. Should feel like movement." He offered, before demonstrating by kneeling down himself, the water barely reaching his chest, so he had to bend down a little more, going to lightly paddle with his hands underwater.

It probably looked really weird.

Very weird.

Shut up, miss fishhorse.

"Either or! Depends on if I want to wait or do it asap," she chirped, still distracting herself by putting forth more cheer. "When I was little, Mami used to try and make it a sleepover so I could have both days . . ." Her habit of wanting it all started young.

Alright, so the Dog Paddle. Stormy was embarrassed for herself to look so apprehensive. "Faire la . . . " She trailed away in the effort it took to lower herself into the water; the higher the waves lapped, the higher her anxiety grew. She stopped when she was crouched, her arms bobbing in the water as if trying to keep it down. Wow, she was lame.

"It'd be easier if the water wasn't moving," Stormy mumbled as she copied Dory's motions, still tensed but at least able to show she was capable of delaying her drowning by a few seconds of paddling. She quickly got back on her feet once that was done, still unable to accustom herself to the muddy ground; like some Pisces, her feet were particularly sensitive.

"Dory-aaaaaan," she whined pitifully, "let's forget about the swimming and teach me about your tattoos and French instead! Gale can speak some French and I wanna show him up. And tattoos are cool. I want to get one sometime!"
