Despite the harsh and bitterly cold winter, spring had rolled around again. With the snows melting and the ground softening, the time to plant new flowers was nearing and Paoma needed to make the long trip into Palisade for some fertilizer.

The girl perched on one of the dining chairs, standing on her tiptoes to reach the jar she used to stow the money she made selling flowers. Anything she didn't need to use in the fall was saved up for the spring, for this very trip at the start of the season. The rest of the year more or less depended on this small sum of money. If she didn't have enough to buy fertilizer, her flowers would suffer.

Carefully she counted out the change. Nearby, Little Brother sat, taking up half the table's surface as he watched her counting coins.

"It looks like enough," the girl declared, sweeping the coins into a small drawstring purse that she hung around the grimalkin's neck. Palisade was a big place and scary, and a child like her had plenty of reason to be afraid. But with her money slung around Little Brother's neck, she had little to fear from pickpockets.

"Come on then, Little Brother," she said with a pat on his head. The grimalkin leaned forward to nuzzle her face. "It's time to show everyone what we've learned over the winter." Which was, mainly, how to pull a wagon without putting up a fuss. The grimalkin had not taken kindly to the task, but there was no alternative to pulling the fertilizer back in a little cart. The training had taken most of the winter, but they were making progress.

Paoma strapped Little Brother (who acquiesced reluctantly) to the wagon and they soon set off from their cozy cottage. With Paoma chatting the entire time and Little Brother interjecting with an occasional yowl, the walk into the city melted away and before long, they found themselves at the outskirts of the city.

For Fletcher the day had been busy, busy, busy! The large man hadn't had a time to even stop and catch his breath! Since the crack of dawn, the six foot two man was hustling all about the merry inn he was employed to, straightening up rooms from those who'd just checked out, as well as assisting with getting new customers into the vacant rooms. Breakfast had been packed, what with a huge crew of hunters from another town coming in to try their shot at catching some fair game in the more lively city of Palisade! There was a whole pack of them that had taken up more than half of the rooms available! leaving many customers having to be turned away... which led to some conflict as well. Thankfully, with the kind mans apologies, and references to a few other inns nearby, any sort of heavy conflict was avoided.

After the early morning though, lunch was just the same. Having to clean up after a whole pack of men was no joke, and only to have to do it again just hours later? The staff was quite exhausted! But Fletcher maintained a pleasant air about him, picking up the slack any of his fellow coworkers couldn't keep up with, and giving encouragement to them when they grumbled complaints. Following along his heels was his precious little Cream, too, prancing so daintily, and also assisting in keeping his own spirits brightened! How could he be anything but blissful with having such a cute creature by his side! while sweeping he would pause to give her a stroke and ear scritch, or a rub under the chin while changing the sheets and making the beds, even slipping a sliver of the chef's meals for the days to her, enjoying how cute she was gobbling the bits and pieces right up!

While the men were rumbling amongst themselves over lunch, Fletcher was able to get some fresh air, and to spare his ears their gruesome tales of recent kills, giving a deep inhale as he walked right out the front door. His golden hair shimmered under the beaming sun, bright blue eyes flickering around at the going-ons around him, smiling to a few who passed by. He wiped his hands along the apron around his waist, blinking as he felt a press to his leg, and a sweet little mew reached his ears. It was very easy to see, literally, the man melt from the darling affection his grimalkin gave. Kneeling from his towering height, the man cooed sweetly to the affectionate feline, gathering her up into his arms, and nuzzling his face against her fuzzy side. Instantly she began to purr loudly, rubbing her head against him, her eyes squinting closed contently, "You're just the sweetest thing, Creamy pie~<3" he cooed adoringly, not even bothered... or noticing, of the strange looks he got from a few passerby's.

The buildings grew taller and more clustered and Paoma found herself tilting her head back to marvel at the structures, as she always did when she came into town. So different were they from her own humble hovel that she couldn't help but wonder how they had been built. Who could have climbed so high to build such beautiful things?

They wandered down their usual street, with Little Brother padding along somewhat sullenly, tail twitching as the little cart trundled along behind him. Every once in a while he would sneak a reproachful glance at the wagon to express his malcontent. This was not fun! Cats were not meant to pull things, damn it. But his looks went unnoticed by Paoma, enchanted as she was with everything above her.

Soon enough, he, too, found something to distract himself with. A loud purr caught the grimalkin's attention and his ears perked toward the sound. Bright eyes followed to spot a golden grimalkin and a man off to the side of the road, and without much thought to what he was doing, he veered off-course and trundled toward them, empty wagon in tow.

The cream feline was doused in affections, and sweet words by Fletcher. She was also basically engulfed by his massive form, only her fluffy tail and head visible, really! But her white ears pricked as she naturally caught not only the scent but presence of another approaching. Blinking, Cream lifted her head straight up, and craned it around to stare at the other grimalkin, tail twitching and flicking curiously. Pausing in his nuzzling, Fletcher too looked up to see what the distraction was. Upon spotting Little Brother, a smile slowly grew and spread on his charming face, before a chuckle bubbled in his chest, "Well would you look at that! Not something you see everyday." How interesting! A grimalkin carrying a small wagon! He'd never seen that before.

Gently, he set Cream down, and gave her a light pat on the head and back, "Looks like he wants to meet you, Creamy~<3" he cooed encouragingly, as the female sniffed towards Little Brother to collect his scent, and stepped daintily over to him to investigate.

Little Brother was all bright eyes and ears as he approached, staring with interest at both Fletcher and Cream. He had met cats before, but not other grimalkins and the sight of this one was intriguing indeed. His tail twitched as he sniffed for the other feline and for the man.

"Oh, Little Brother!" Paoma's cry came as she turned around upon realizing her familiar was no longer by her side. "Don't go bothering people now!"

She hurried after the grimalkin, who flicked an ear in her direction but seemed to decide he was in no danger of getting into serious trouble and continued on his way. The girl caught up just as he came to a stop near the man and his companion, and managed a shy smile. The man was tall enough to be intimidating, and she hoped he wouldn't be irritated by Little Brother's intrusion. "I'm awfully sorry, sir," she began, reaching to grab her familiar.

Darling Cream gave adorable little mews to the foreign cat, her tail lifted upright, and twitching curiously as she took more steps towards him. He didn't seem to pose a threat, and she was a sweet and curious little girl. Padding closer, she went right up to Little Brother and began to daintily sniff his nose, and face, eyes closing slightly as she gathered his scent, before pressing her cheek to rub against his, repeating the stroke again and to the other side with soft mewls in between.

Chuckling, Fletcher watched with awe, his eyes squinted from how much e was smiling with delight. Such a precious sight. His gaze shifted to the distressed girl, and he gave a dismissive wave, "Nothing to worry about, he's just curious. That's alright." he assured with a friendly tone, hands resting on his hips as he watched the felines, "A handsome fellow at that." he praised, looking to the young miss again, his head canting slightly, "What might his name be? My little one's name is Cream. She's very kind, and sweet, you can pet her if you want!" he offered, walking a little closer to the cats, to kneel down behind Cream, giving her a few scritches and pats along her back in praise.

Paoma relaxed visibly upon hearing Fletcher's tone and detecting no trace of anger. Indeed, he looked perfectly content, and the girl relaxed her grip on the cart as Little Brother sat and purred under the attention he was receiving from Cream. His was a personality that welcomed all though he didn't get the chance as often as he would have liked. The life they led was secluded enough that meeting new people was hardly an everyday occurrence.

"Oh, but I told him he couldn't go barrelling up to folks whenever he wanted!" Paoma said, landing a light little smack on the grimalkin's rump, which he brushed off with a twitch of his tail. They had an odd understanding, the pair of them. Still, the man didn't seem to mind, so she reluctantly unbuckled Little Brother from the cart before bending to give Cream a pat.

"His name is Little Brother," she added a little sheepishly, knowing that his name was hardly a name. But the cat was as close to a little brother as she would ever have, so she hardly felt guilty referring to him as such. It suited him, in any case. He was all mischief and games. "He's... well he's perfectly harmless, just... some people think he's a nuisance." Their neighbors, for starters.

The large man blinked curiously up to the young girl, and then her cat for the reaction he'd give to the like chastising he received. Chuckling again, he gave a light pat to Cream's back before retracting his hand for the girl to have a stroke to the soft pale fur. "a rebellious little one, is he?" he mused to the youth, amused by how Little Brother didn't seem to even care that he was going against Paoma's wishes. A large hand was extended towards Little Brother, in offer to be sniffed, as was a custom with greeting most animals, " Well hello, Little Brother~ How could anyone think you a nuisance when you're such a handsome guy." he cooed, letting a finger crook to rub under the cats chin.

As Paoma approached, Cream turned her attention to the young girl, mewing to her, and arching her body to lean into the pet, before stepping closer to sniff, and rub against a leg. Curving around she looked to Little Brother again, and trotted back to him to again nuzzle his cheek, by lightly bumping her head to it, and smoothing softly.

Letting the cats interact, Fletcher let his arms rest on his knee's, peeking at the little cart that was in Little Brother's possession, "Have things to sell in the market, then?" he asked, bright blues looking up to Paoma.
