Hi, my name is Professor Amata Harlowe.

I'm a female.

I will be your Mythology teacher, both Magical and Muggle.

I'm 35 years old.

My birthday is December 15.

My dream job is To write my own book on Mythology.

My blood status is Halfblood.

The house I'm in is Gryffindor.

I'm interested in men.

I'm currently with no one... at least, I don't think I am. I mean, Grayson and I have something going on, but I can't tell if it's romantic or not...

I may seem rather scattered, and perhaps a tad excitable, but I'm really quite grounded, and reliable. I suppose it's just that my passion for my subject gets away with me at times.

My background story is that I'm a halfblood, born to a family of Gryffindors, with a witch mother who had an obsession with folklore, hence my first name. I was, in fact, named after the third witch in the Beedle's tale 'The Fountain of Fair Fortune,' Amata, the witch who'd lost her lover, only to realize he was, in fact, a cad, and then fell for the dear muggle knight, Sir Luckless. I suppose I don't have to tell you why I was named for that particular character, what with my father being a muggle and all. They were desperately in love, of course. I grew up in a very happy, albeit strange home. My mother was a history buff, and as I've mentioned, rather obsessed with old fairy tales. She would constantly grill my father on muggle fairy tales, and they would take turns telling me stories. I always heard the original versions, of course, from the Bard himself, never the altered versions. My father was a muggle, as I've said, and as such, we lived in a home that was an odd mixture of muggle and magic. A television with muggle channels, but a cauldron on the stove. My mother writes for a living, analyzing both muggle and magical fairy tales, and my father is a carpenter. Quite a normal profession, isn't it? He insists on paying our bills with his own wages, so our home is on the muggle grid, and my mom is listed as a house wife. Anyway, I attended Hogwarts, and was sorted into Gryffindor, like my family. I think we've had one Hufflepuff in the last ten generations... I was quite the loud thing as a child, and my mother's stories had taught me that it was important to take a stand when necessary. I'm afraid I had a habit of arguing with professors whenever I got into trouble, if I felt it was unwarranted. Which was rare, but it happened. My mother was often on my side, since I never raised a fuss if I wasn't right. The main problem was that I had little respect when it wasn't earned, and many teachers felt that they deserved it by dint of being teachers, which isn't the case at all. Anyway, I got good enough grades, nothing flashy, except in my History of Magic courses. And, I graduated, helped my mother write a book or two, and decided I wanted to return to my beloved Hogwarts to teach! She's quite proud of me, following in her footsteps, in a way. At the end of my first year teaching, however, the one friend I had made on staff, Regret Owens, he just... he lost it, I suppose, and attacked two students! I was able to save them, but the boy suffered serious psychological issues... I can't help but wonder what went wrong... and I do so miss my friend, in spite of what he did. And I haven't been quite the same, either. I've gotten a lot less trusting... I used to be so friendly! Now I feel like I treat everyone as though they're about to hex me. One of the students' fathers is on the Board of Governors, Mr. Edgeworth, he brought a Pensieve to the school so that he and I could help the children work their own issues out... I volunteered to be the one to go with them into the Pensieve, honestly for selfish reasons, so that I could watch the events unfold from an outside perspective. It was... strange, to say the least. And unsettling. I'm not sure if it was for the better or worse just yet. I'm still trying to work that out.

Ah, recently... well, I might have a bit of a crush. Alright, more than a crush. I was in the library one evening and noticed one of my fellow professors, Grayson Powell, reading a book my mother wrote, and, figuring I'd be social, decided to talk to him. We had an incredibly spirited debate concerning my mother's opinions (I was mostly playing the Devil's Advocate, honestly I think the book's awful), and... well, it was just about the most I've enjoyed a conversation in a very long time. The two of us became friends, and we would spend a bit of our free time talking about whatever came to mind. Then... well, I was quite comfortable being friends, and then at the feast one year, he simply passed out! No warning, no reason, just laid his head down and fell asleep and wouldn't wake up. I assumed he was just exhausted at first (he does have a habit of staying up far too late reading... not unlike myself), but when I tried to wake him up, he just... wouldn't! The headmistress, another professor and I took him to the hospital wing, and he stayed there, sleeping, for almost the entirety of the year. Of the course of that year, several students fell asleep as well, until one night they all just woke up! I've no idea how or why, but they did. Between the feast and then, though, I... I realized that I might've cared for Grayson a bit more than I'd thought. I missed him terribly, and visited him often. Seeing him in the bed, unable to wake up... it was almost unbearable for me. The only thing worse was not seeing him at all. Then, the night he awoke... well, I might have gotten a little ahead of myself. I was just so very glad he was alright, and... well, I kissed him, which of course was an idiotic thing to do. Things were mostly normal after, though, with a bit of awkwardness at first... now it's mostly gone, but I do find that I'm incredibly attracted to him, and have absolutely no idea if he returns the feeling. We still get along well enough, and there are times I think he might be flirting, but... well, it's rather hard to tell. And Ciaran is never going to let me live it down, I met him for drinks and it was like I was being tortured with my own love life... or lack thereof.

I enjoy playing in the snow, baking sweets for myself and my friends and family, staying up late into the night with a good book by a warm fire, working on my mother's books, and meeting my new students.

I despise drab, grey days, exercising, having to wake up early, people with no imagination and people who interrupt anyone or talk while others are talking.

I'm afraid of trusting someone, now. And that I'm not as good a friend as I used to think.

My strengths are that I carry my enthusiasm for my subject over into other areas of my life, and that I can usually find the silver lining in any cloud.

My flaws are that I'm sometimes a bit scatter-brained and that I've gotten to where I'm rather suspicious of everyone around me.
