Well... I'm here... Quillan glanced around the shore of Black Lake. No sign of Saxon. She'll show though... He reminded himself of her determined expression. She wanted a Thomas. Looked like she wanted one badly. Luckily for her, Quillan had a knack at giving people what they wanted.
The first part of their deal would be the most challenging. Just getting Saxon out of her shell. Getting her a boyfriend wouldn't be that hard--at least Quillan didn't think it would be very difficult. She's attractive... guys should be more than willing, he shrugged to himself, looking around for a place to sit as he thought. He'd done some research on how to make her more comfortable and how to lessen her stutter--and even found out some gossip on who are the "good" guys in the fourth year. That's some girl chatter I could've gone without hearing...
For the stutter, an easy way would be to have her read to him. Quillan decided earlier in the day that he'd have her do that first. Then, they would play the thing girls liked calling "the question game." In his backpack, he had a few props too, if worst came to worst.
That log will work fine... Quillan thought, taking a seat on a fallen tree, taking off his robe and laying it on the log as he did so--so she wouldn't have dirty her clothes. Sure, this wasn't the neatest of meeting places, but Quillan doubted she would want to be overheard.

Saxon was running late. Her Arithmancy class was going to be the death of her. She moved across the grounds. She was in the standard uniform her hufflepuff colors displayed proudly. Her hair had been brown yesterday... she had lightened it for the day. Magic was amazing and she had learned the spell to change the color of her hair. Today it was a light brown that picked up the sun to make it shimmer with gold.
She held the strap to her bag as she walked into view. She had stayed up last night going through her books. She had found one to read out loud... it wasn't worn as she had only read it once. She had her normal reading book as well but that would remain perfectly snug and sound in her bag.
She caught sight of Quill and gave a tiny smile as she made her way over. She saw that he had laid out his cloak and she flushed softly. That was nice of him.. but if she sat on it... she would be really close to him. And that would make her uncomfortable. She stopped a bit before completely reaching him. "H-hey... "

"Hey," Quillan responded, giving her a smile. Looks tense... Why is she way over there? Quillan's eyes narrowed slightly--"Oh, wow, your hair is lighter." He noticed, "I like it darker, but I know a lot of guys like blondes... Darker makes your eyes stand out more." I'm turning into a chick, aren't I? Quillan had done his research... talked to some Slytherin girls that owed him... Perhaps he had done too much research because Quillan found himself feeling awkward with his own compliment. Feeling brisk and a bit embarrassed, he ushered, "C'mon, sit down. I'm not going to bite you." He scooted over some to give her more room.
"I see you brought your book. Want to start reading from the beginning once you settle down?" He inquired, though he was more of just telling her what to do. In his opinion, the stutter was the most immediate problem area. A nice blush could be cute sometimes, but stuttering could just get to be plain annoying. "Take your time and enunciate--let me hear that voice of yours clearly," he beckoned with a smirk, leaning back off the log a bit. Quillan was really fighting his own nature here... he wanted to tease her relentlessly but he knew that wouldn't help her feel more comfortable around him so he kept his mouth shut.
As for the book reading, in a way, he was also helping himself. By listening to the story and the plot of this book, he was likely to pick up a few tips on how to get Saxon talking. And especially what to tell a guy to sweep her off her feet...

She smiled that he noticed. Not many people had. But then again. She changed her hair color on an almost day today basis. So most people, her friends, expected it to be different. It was when it was left the same was when people knew that she had problems.
She smiled to cover her nerves. She didn't trust him not to bite her... but then again... He mind traveled to the book in her bag. A good, well placed and well timed bite could be a good thing. She flushed at that thought and moved to sit on the far edge of the cloak. But in her flustered state as she set her bag down it tipped over. The contents spilled. She gasped. All her potions supplies... thankfully, were unharmed. But her reading book was dropped onto the grass. She sank down to stuff it back into her bag. It was obvious the other book was more well loved. The cover was worn and the book looked well read. The one in her hand not so much. The only thing about the one in her hand was that the book had a crease down the spine. that made it known it had been read once.
She nodded and settled onto the ground her back to the log. Her ropes would keep her skirt clean. She rolled her eyes at his emphasis on enunciation. She had no problems reading out loud... especially since this was a clean book. "Alright... December, 1995. It was cold and dreary in London when Samantha...." She continued reading. Reading out loud wasn't a problem. Now have her read actual smut to the man... he probably would never understand a word of it.

Quillan picked up a few of her potion ingredients as she floundered and noticed that Saxon had two books in her backpack. One's a cover... He realized, not saying anything at the time but it was something he would keep in his mind. Quillan was naive to what exactly Saxon was used to reading, but he had a number of reasons in his head as to why she would avoid reading her obviously more well read book. 1. It's more embarrassing... 2. It's more embarrassing...
So he spoke up, "This book's boring." He commented, sitting straight up to look at her. "Read the other one." So far, she had been doing well with controlling her stutter so it was time to test her... and to humor himself.
He learned several things from watching her read. Firstly, she read without a stutter... which mean that it wasn't a horrid inability; she was just getting embarrassed. So he had to press her a bit--make her embarrassed. The second book... well, Quillan had a sneaking suspicion that it would do the trick. So her problems lie just with her comfort level around people... I wonder if it's just men? Quillan would have to find a way to test out her stutter further but he had a nice amount of information so far.
Knowing that Saxon would be reluctant to read the other book, he decided to give her an ultimatum. "Read the other book or I'll lay on your lap," he threatened--and nearly burst out laughing at the mere fact that such a thing could be threatening. Oh Merlin...

Saxon smiled and thanked him quietly when he helped. "S-sorry... i guess i should be more c-careful...." She flushed and as she read she smiled. But a frown crossed her face. "Ive not even read a full chapter... you cant honestly expect it to be all that and a cup of tea w-when its just the first chapter." She shook her head. "Nah... this one g-gets better."
She moved to settle back in and continue reading but she froze at his ultimatum... He wouldn't do it... would he? She looked directly to him to judge his level of seriousness. Ok... so he was laughing inside.. but not at her... only at the situation... so he would do it... She bit her lip knowing how the other book started. She had two choices... be mortified that he would lie in her lap... or be mortified to let him hear what she was really reading.
She swallowed and reached for the other book. She ran her hand over the cover and looked to him as if asking if he was really going to make her do this. And it was apparent that he was. She opened the book. "London, 1865" She hesitated as her eyes skimmed the first lines. "The other book gets better... you sure you don't want to hear Samantha's story?" He face was candy apple red. She wet her lips and sighed. "Sir Russel Drover, Second duke of Windham-shire laid on the bed satisfied... his mistress laid in the bed beside him. Her golden honey hair fanned out behind her. She looked thoroughly tossed and Russel wasn't surprised to see she looked just how he felt...." Her face bloomed. "A-afterall... she knew..." she closed her eyes. "...she knew how to... m-mil..milk" She gave up when the k came out as a squeak and shut the book. "We should go back to the other book..." She gave him a frown.

Aha! So she would go out of her way just not to touch me... It was interesting to know and something Quillan would eventually have to wean her off of. One more thing to think about... He watched as she shuffled through her bag and gave her a nod, as if to say, Yeah, I am going to make you do this. "Samantha's such a bore," He said with a crooked grin on his face.
Perhaps he shouldn't have egged her on so much because Quillan's eyebrow rose at what she actually was reading. If this was just the beginning of the book... Ohhh... It's basically... Quillan felt heat rush to his cheeks as she read, trying desperately to think of other things. Like... How a giraffe could clean boogers out of its nose with its tongue... Or that an elephant could drop a seven gallon s**t. Or how releasing gas in the tub would release small amounts of feces into the water. Okay, better. Quillan felt the heat recede and he noticed that Saxon stopped reading.
Taking a calming breathe, he regained his composure and grinned at her, "Not to the other book. Put the book away--you're obviously fine with reading. It's more of just talking..." Quillan was also relieved for a change of subject. "Let's play 'the question game,'" Quillan began, leaning in towards her. "Have you been kissed?" I have to keep this on embarrassing grounds otherwise it won't bring out the stutter...

Saxon got so nervous with people in her space. It was one of those things where even though she showered every morning before classes... The thought that she may have sweat too much and so to the eye she looked well... if they touched her they may know that she was sweating... She smiled at his grin. He was right... it had taken her a week to read that book... she kept putting it down to get sidetracked.
Saxon refused to look at Quill while she read. Her face felt on fire. This book started with smut... was smut... and ended with a happy ever after said from a bed. She did look at him while she waited for his answer on going back to the other book. She nodded when he said no to the other book and then gave a sigh of relief as he told her to put the book away. It was a good book... to read in the privacy of your own bubble... thus... why it had been placed in her bag... which she wished it had stayed there. "Alright....." She nodded. Question game... like she would ask questions... alright... she could do that. She slipped the book into her bag and turned to look at him. However, he was leaning toward her... and the question he asked brought the color that had just left straight back to her cheeks.
Had she been kissed. Well ever since she was little... up till she was about ten... her parents kissed her goodnight. But thats not what he meant. But he didn't have to know. "Of course... lots of times...."

Quillan's eyes narrowed at Saxon's response. He hadn't pegged her as the type to straight up lie... Then it came to him. "Relatives don't count--unless you're into that sort of thing." Quillan blurted out, feeling clever so a grin appeared on his face.
He noticed that she was becoming more responsive to him--which was good. He even saw a normal smile in there. She's becoming more comfortable with me... not with guys in general, he couldn't help but think. It would take more than a few conversations with him to get her completely accustomed to talking with guys. He wondered if she noticed that her stutter wasn't as prominent now. Sure, she had limited responses but it was something, wasn't it?
But she had to become more familiar with just the idea of embarrassing things. "If you are a kissing master, then you should kiss me right now," Quillan teased, leaning closer to her. He knew she wouldn't bite. "Because things like... first kisses being with a special person shouldn't matter, right? So you wouldn't be doing any harm. It's just a little kiss." He laughed, his eyes daring her to make a move.
"Also... it's your turn for a question, y'know." Quillan added, keeping a steady distance between them. "You could always try embarrassing me. You'd like some pay back, right?"

Saxon flushed and she glanced down noting that he was more observant then she had given him credit for. She picked at the grass a bit and then sighed. However she frowned at him. She should kiss him? She turned to find him only a bit away. It was the perfect opportunity to try kissing. After all... Quill wasn't going to get a guy to go out with her... But he was wrong. A first kiss was supposed to be special... magical with the sound of bells and butterflies floating around.
She searched his eyes feeling all sorts embarrassed. If she rose to his bait and kissed him... her first kiss would be with someone who only was doing this for a favor in the end... if she didn't she was a coward. She fought her mind. What would Caroline have done. She wouldn't have let the man put her in this situation. Where he had all the cards. And so she took a breath and moved in pressing her lips to his cheek. Nice and innocent... and she kept her first real kiss for that special person. She pulled her knees up and smiled. "Ok... If you are so good at this relationship stuff... so much so you can help me... Where is your girlfriend?" She wouldn't set out to make him uncomfortable... it just wasn't in her to do that.

Quillan got a huge a** grin on his face when Saxon kissed him on the cheek. "Ballsy!" He exclaimed with a laugh, it was pretty clever of her. She didn't back down, per say, she still kissed him like he asked... she just found a loophole to go about it. "I'll have to be more specific next time," he commented as he regained a normal distance between them.
No stutters... Quillan observed as she asked him a question. His response was a shrug. "I was dating Moa Vance but it was just hard keeping up with it," he admitted, "Didn't make it through the summer," he gave a wry smile. Now that he thought about Moa, he realized that he must have some horrid need to help shy girls out. Moa was meek and blushy too... And though she was a bit chubby, Quillan never thought about that. He didn't see it. I probably have some psychological damage... Or just a sick need to tease people? "You might know her? Fourth year Hufflepuff."
With another shrug, Quillan began to think of his own question. "Seeing as I'm trying to find you a boyfriend, what type do you like?" He inquired, knowing he would eventually need the data. "Besides a Thomas, obviously. I'm talkin' looks."

She smiled. Yeah... loopholes... they were what saved the shy girls in the end. She flushed though. Next time? There was going to be a next time? As he moved away she relaxed a bit. No stuttering was from becoming comfortable with him. He wasn't so scary... other boys were the ones she needed to worry about.
At the name she nodded. "I know of her..." After all they were same yeah and same house. "Im sorry it didn't work out though..." It was true... a lot of her novels the girl was like her... innocent and blissfully unaware... and then a dashing man would come in... steal her first kiss... her virtue... her heart.. and then they lived and loved happily ever after. She watched him shrug.
"T-type?" She frowned. "I don't have one?" She closed her eyes to think a moment. "He could look like anything... the only things i need is someone who likes me... and i like them... I-I mean... I d-dont know... someone.... "

Quillan shrugged again, "No hard feelings," he responded in a moment of seriousness before his pleased grin reappeared on his face at her shyness. "That's bullshit," Quillan responded with a laugh, "you're telling me that... that... A troll with a nice heart could come swoop down and win your affections, Saxon?" The image caused him to chuckle a bit. That would be an odd sight!
"Or are you saying as long as they're good looking, you couldn't care less?" He inquired, brushing some of his orange hair away from his face. "I would think that you'd have a type... You have those romance novels, you must fantasize some. Y'know, have your favorites. What does Thomas look like?" As he asked the question, Quillan became aware that they drifted off the question game which was perfectly fine by him. The whole purpose of the game was to get them talking--most importantly, to get Saxon talking.
It disappointed him a little bit that she began to stutter and Quillan began to think about some of the other reasons why she was so shy. "Tell me what you like about yourself." He commanded, looking into her eyes. "And remember, eyes on me, and take things slowly. Think out what you're trying to say before you say it." To reduce the stuttering... Though he knew she couldn't help the blush, he wanted to try to make her shyness more discreet. Some guys liked that sort of innocence, but Quillan knew more who didn't.

She nodded and realized that it must have been a mutual thing. She started slightly and looked him over. He was laughing at her again. "Exactly... " She frowned looking down. "Why not? I mean... Sure every girl dreams about p-prince charming... but if a blind woman can find love... then shouldn't we all be able to ignore looks... I mean... if he is a troll but he has a heart of gold... I can just close my eyes right?" Alright... so it wasn't the best idea out there.... but it was at least something.
Saxon shook her head. "If they were drop dead hansom and beat me every night... i fear i would start dreaming of a kind hearted troll." She frowned.Maybe she did...but her face turned red. He wanted her to talk about her fantasies? She felt the heat run through her body. "T-thomas? oh... well... Hes tall... and blonde... and strong. With a square jaw and" She smiled. "nice arms...." She was definitely an arms girl.
Saxon frowned and looked down to think. What did she like about herself? She fought for anything. "I am a nice person... and... Im loyal to my friends..." She wasn't stuttering. And she was looking directly at him. She paused though to shrug. "I don't know...."

Quillan burst out laughing, "Just close your eyes?" He exclaimed with a hoot. "Sounds like some love--if you couldn't even look him in the eye." Quillan pointed out after his laughter stopped, giving her a skeptical look. If Saxon seriously believed what was she was saying, Quillan would have to rethink his opinion of her. No one could possibly be THAT naive, could they? he wondered, a wondering expression on his face.
"I'm not saying it has to be one extreme or the other. Wouldn't you just rather someone good looking?" Quillan responded, cringing at the thought of anyone being beaten every night.
Quillan saw Saxon's face change color pretty clearly and just raised his eyebrow at her. "So is that your favorite or do you like different characteristics?" Quillan asked, stretching out his back. I wish she would just spit it out... Quillan thought to himself, more of amused than peeved. It wasn't weird to have a favorite look. Everyone had a type they were more attracted to than others.
"You're a nice person who's loyal? Talk about the most generic Hufflepuff description ever..." Quillan pointed out with a grin, "Sure, you know." He assured, "How about you think about it some more? There has to be something more than 'I am a nice person and I'm loyal,'" Quillan said in a mocking tone, a playful grin on his face.
