Satine was a recluse, and she knew it. But as the seasons passed she knew she would need to face the world again if she didn't want to such a hermit forever. Summer seemed like as good as a time as any to make a pilgrimage to the river. The grass was soft and dry - easier to avoid mud - and the warm sun felt good on a bright, brilliant white coat. She liked to see the colors of the flowers, too.

She quietly made her way through the meadow, her eyes mostly downcast at the grass in shyness, but occasionally glancing upwards to see if anyone was around.

User Image Enchante chuffed silently at the antics of her companion. "Honestly it's not that hard to catch a rabbit." The reply she got back made her raise her brow in amusement. So sassy Lyka had become these past few months of traveling together. Enchante settled deeper into her spot, it really was a nice area. All these flowe--a sneeze stole from her before it could be stopped. "Ugh," Though less flowers would have been better as the pollen was in the air something fierce. "Watch out for-" Enchante winced as Lyka got smacked down to the ground by the rabbits two large appendages. "Feet." The glare sent her way was received by widen innocent blinking eyes. "I could help you know." She looked down to flex her large paws.

Frustrated words were snarled her way, "Tisk such language Lyka I've raised you better than that." Enchante's amusement was interrupted when a scent wafted in the air and seemed to be coming closer to their location. Enchante's red eyes narrowed and she let out a little sharp bark in order to gather her pack member close to her body.

Satine heard someone coming, her ears pricking up and he raised her head from the bunch of clover she had began to nibble on. She put a smile on her face, but as the figured came into focus, fear dripped her. Frozen in place, she watched them - she had never seen a skinwalker, only heard the stories whispered on the winds of their death and carnage. Said to wear the pelts of wolves or cougars - she saw a mare approach who very much looked as much like a wolf as a horse. Furry, wolfish ears and a grey coat; a tail and another wolf lurking nearby. Was is too late to run? At a loss of what to so, she hit the ground, ducking in the tall summer grass and praying the wolfish mare didn't see her and would move on.

User Image Enchante nudged her companion to stick close. She had lost too much family to not be cautious. Since they would not come to her maybe she would come to them. As they neared the scent took on a floral light scent, it didn't appear to be threating. Those that were a threat usually carried a scent of blood mixed with their own personal smell. "Now would be a good time Lyka to practice. Where is the scent coming from?"

This was it! Alpha was giving Lyka a chance to prove herself as a capable companion! One that could find danger and protect the pack. So she took a deep breath--nearly snorting up a white fluffy flower--and turn towards the tall grass. "There." Using her paw Lyka indicated where she meant.

"Cowardly," Enchante spoke blandly before continuing. "But smart enough to know to hide when you scent danger eh female?" She was sure of it now. The one hiding was a female, one that was alone. It was always hard for Enchante to meet others as she was often thought of as one that walked with skins upon their backs. Nasty and horrible creatures that liked to cause pain. The thought of this being a trap crossed her mind but no other scents were in their area. Just her, Lyka, and the unknown female who had yet to come out.

A small noise of fright escaped her mouth as the wolf pointed at her. They knew where she was! Her cover was blown...should she run? No, it was far too late for that now... what should she do. She squeezed her eyes shut and the grass around her was shaking visibly from her trembling. After a few deep breaths, she decided her best bet would probably be plaintive begging. She lifted her head above the grass, giving up on the idea of hiding. Her ears were plastered back on her head, her eyes large and sad as she looked at her potentials killers.

User Image The squeak of fright made her eyebrow twitch. Enchante wasn't a monster and she couldn't help that she was born with paws. And sometimes...emotionally constipated as Lyka loving put it some time ago.

"Think itsa bunny Alpha?" Lyka looked upward at her pack leader while licking her lips. She let out a whine, "I'm hungry."

"No." The female didn't smell like that more...horse-like. "And you're always hungry." Enchante opened her mouth to say more but was interrupted by the sound of leaves rustling. A head popped up a minute later. At first Enchante thought what was in front of her was a ghost, but the closer she got the clearer the other became. "Delicate." The word was blurted out before she could stop it and a frown replaced the shocked look. The 'sourwolf' expression was coming to play. "What's in your hair?" Enchante wasn't one for conversations and found it difficult to come up with ideal chit chat. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Lyka put a paw to her forehead. What? She was trying for goodness sakes! Lyka was forever going on and on about Enchante's lack of conversational skills.

It took a moment for Satine to answer, still trembling with fear, afraid the skinwalker would attack and eat her any minute. "M..mmmy hair?"

She had to force herself to concentrate to answer. "Oh, you mean the feathers?" she asked, tossing her mane a bit and looking at one of the gossamer adornments in her tresses. "Do you like them? Do you want one?" she blurted out, willing to bargain anything for her life. "I got them from my father," she added, not knowing what to say so just saying anything that came to mind.

User Image "Ah." Enchante watched has the feathers moved in the wind. "There alright and no thanks. I have no use for them to be honest." At the word father Enchante felt a pang in her heart and she beat down the memories that were trying to make themselves known. "You shouldn't giveaway things that come from family so easily."

"We are not walkers." Lyka sat down with a huff on the grass staring into the eyes of the other female. She knew Enchante wouldn't mention that little tidbit and Lyka felt it necessary for her leader to not make enemies...even if they looked fragile. One should not judge by appearance alone.

"Ah." Enchante felt like she didn't need to say anymore and she was being to loose interest in conversation as well as hanging around this place. Maybe one day she would run into another pawed creature such as herself that was not a walker that wore skins.

Satine looked visibly relieved when the wolf didn't want her feathers - she certainly didn't want to give them up. When the actual wolf that followed her explained they were walkers she looked confused for a moment, before feeling like she wanted to cry from happiness. "You're not? Oh, thanks goodness! I'm so sorry! I've never seen a skinwalker but I heard they have paws and wolf petls and you looked so much like wolves, oh my goodness.. you must think me so rude!"

Satine got to her feet, her eats burning red with embarrassment but still thankful to not be fearing for her life.

User ImageEnchante almost rose her eyebrow at the relieved tone and cry. She looked at Lyka for a clue as too what was happening and got a shrugged shoulder in return. "It usually happens," Enchanted looked at Satine blankly. "I don't think anything to honest. You aren't the first or the last to see me as such." At the word skinwalker Enchante snorted,"I saw one long ago--" Her muzzle twisted in a scowl. "--it was unpleasant to say the least. I had never been so glad as to being born with paws in all my life. Learned to be stronger that day as well. Hard life lesson.. Well should get going soon... Lots of ground to cover."

Satine shuffled her hooves, feeling a bit foolish. "Oh, well, your paws are lovely... I just have never seen a skinwalker in the flesh before and, well, I didn't want to get eaten." She tried to offer a friendly smile. "Well, uhm, either way. It was nice to meet you. I promise if we cross paths again I won't hide, promise!" She gave an uncertain laugh, still feeling like had insulted the mare.

"Safe travels," she offered, eager to pick all the little bits of dirt and grass that had gotten in her fur from her foolish reaction.
