Life had not been easy for the female Purewalker within the last few months. Much to her frustration and annoyance, Divinity's demonic enemy had turned its gaze upon this world and as such, had sent it's own beast to inflict harm. Consequently, what had once been an easy conversion of the world's population was now much harder. This new hunter, this 'demon' was relentless and regardless of how many strikes she achieved against him he kept coming back. Her sacrifices had suffered as a result of this continued meddling, as had her health, though the former was decidedly less important.

Fortunately, Divinity had seen to it that this beast would not trouble her today, and graced with good fortune she had hunted down her prey, slain it and laid it out in preparation for sacrifice. Suffice it to say that this one hadn't screamed, she had made certain it was silent as quickly as possible. She couldn't afford to attract the beast again and Divinity would only grace her with his patience and strength for so long.

She would put this time to good use.

With this in mind it wasn't long before she had finalised her sacrifice's position, splaying the legs in accordance with the requirements Divinity had outlined. Satisfied with that, she then turned her attention to the corpse, lifting a paw and extending her claws. With a final flex and a slight repositioning of her body, she then began to 'draw', carving the ritualistic symbols into the flank of the fallen form. Every now and then she would flick her paw away, casting the blood droplets to the side to ensure that they didn't marr her handy work.

She made slow progress on this one, but it was all for a good reason, this would be a good sacrifice and she would not rush it... Divinity deserved only the best for how patient he had been as of late.

A deep, all-too-familiar rumble went through the skinwalker's belly. Hunting had been harder as of late. Even though he had an angeni on his tail nearly constantly, prey seemed to be getting smarter or scarcer, he wasn't sure which one at this point. His belly was suffering for it and now the purewalker was even more dangerous as he was hungry. He was no stranger to this pain, this emptiness, the longing and the lust. It was a constant for him, but eating merely lessened it. Today was a particularly bad day for him though.

In fact, he made his annoyance audible for those around him to hear in the form of a low, almost primal growl. That was if something other then the trees of the forest around him could hear him. He was a skinwalker after-all and something to be avoided, with good reason to. Anything within earshot probably just scattered, though no new scent had disrupted the flow of fallen leaves and dirt that was continually flooding his nostrils. It was unlikely there had even been anything in the area to begin with before he had arrived. Though the scents assaulting him were strong, there was a good chance the smell of rabbit or deer was just being overpowered.

Paw prints were the only remnants he left behind as he continued to scour the forests for even the smallest amount of food. At this point, the desperate stallion would probably even take a squirrel or a bird.

Something. Anything.

That growl was not of this world. The purewalker froze, her claw suspended over the corpse as she twisted her head to one side and then the other. Fur lined ears tweaked and twisted while both nostrils flared in an attempt to identify who and what it was that entered her temporary realm. When no answer was immediately forthcoming the walker pursed her lips into her thin line. Though it might be vitally important for her to complete her ritual she would be unable to do so without ensuring that she would not be interrupted in the most delicate stages.

Consequently she lapsed into silence, amber gaze shifting across the tree line as she waited, poised and ready to continue if it had proved to be a 'one off'. Alas, it appeared that it was not, for no sooner had she settled in to continue than the faint sound of soft paws could be heard alongside an ever so faint rustle of foliage. Now that tidbit of information was of interest to her and while she was 'relieved' that it was not the beast she knew and despised, this did not mean that she was safe.

Paws often meant competition.

Her maw creased into a snarl, teeth bared as she lowered her paw to the ground and stood. She made a point of not moving away from her quarry, but she also couldn't afford to leave herself exposed. Aware that whatever foreign creature approached her was still on course, she did what any fellow predator would have done...

Ears pressing to the back of her head, the feline mare released her own territorial growl.

Pointed ears twisted around from their usual position of being pinned back against his soft pelt. That growl was no wolf. It was not a bear. It was certainly nothing prey would make. Skoll slow pace stopped, his claws flexing against the dirt underneath his paws while his bright blue eyes scanned over each tree trunk, trying to weave his thoughts together.

All was for naught as the hunger fogged his mind, pushing any coherent thought aside of the pain reminded him of his quest for food. There was no thinking now. Only feeding. Growling meant another in these forests and nearby at that. Another being meant food. If he had the strength to fight for it was another story. Perhaps adrenaline and instinct would carry him on.

Far less then cautiously he pushed his way through the trees, weaving around the trunks of the obstacles in his way. There was food out there and he would find it and consume it. Then it happened...

Blood.

Someone was bleeding and the scent of it hit as his nostrils flared to keep his lungs full as his pace sped up. Of course it hit him like a good punch in the face to drive him on, though it wasn't like he had really needed any help at that point. Heavy saliva began to drip from his mouth, sliding down his jaw to fall on the dirt and grass as he passed by. Soon...

Too soon.

He finally pushed his way passed the last trunk in his path to come face to face with another of his kind and behind her was the prize he sought.

Divinity?

Her thoughts were incredulous as the Purewalker burst through the trees, and it was only when he came face to face with her that it dawned on her. This was not Divinity as he would not deem it fitting to grace the world in any physical form while it was still riddled with corruption. On the contrary, what stood before her was a vision of his work, one like her. With devastating power rippling through muscled and fur lined limbs, Skoll could not be mistaken for anything other than a Purewalker.

This was the perfection that Divinity sought and as he existed, it was a testament that progress had been made.

Nevertheless she was all too aware of the saliva slipping from his half opened and snarling maw; the beast was hungry and his gaze was set firmly on her quarry. A vision of potential he may have been, but he would not be allowed to disrupt and delay the work of her divine lord - he was not entitled to that right, regardless of the purity that might flow in his veins.

Her lips drew back in another warning snarl, eyes narrowing as she surveyed Skoll with deserved suspicion and hostility.

"No," she snapped warningly. "This one is not yours, this one is for Divinity," she stated.

Any answer came out as a snarl as his hunger-driven lust still hung heavy on his mind. Skoll had no knowledge of what this 'Divinity' was that the other skinwalker was speaking of, nor did he truly care at this point. As far as he was concerned, Divinity was the corpse behind her and what a silly thing it was to know the name of your meal.

"Move," he growled. It was no request, it was a demand and every ounce of his body would see her out of his path Even that single, simple word came out more bestial then it normally would have. "Hungry..." Followed the previous 'request'. It was a desperate word to match his crazed eyes and salivating mouth. Of course he could just kill her and eat them both, but why put the effort in where he didn't have to? She did the work for him. Though...she could be thinking the same thing. Let him eat and then kill him, then eat them both by herself. What a fitting end that would be; to be eaten by one of his own.

With tensed muscles, he took his steps forward.

Syntyche was not an individual or creature who could be cowed; in fact she only took orders from her god and now that she had concluded that Skoll was not Divinity's mortal form, she had no intention of moving. Her lips drew back further and a growl continued to ripple from her throat as he spoke. Hungry or not, he was not entitled to the sacrifice and if necessary, she would turn him into one as well - Divinity would understand, he would remake this one without that voracious appetite.

"No," she replied abruptly, leaping forward to snap warningly at his neck. She took care to avoid the large canines that protruded, all too aware of the dangers they posed. That being said, wary of the teeth she might have been but she was still intent on making her point - suffice it to say that cowardice was not something that her species possessed and if she caught his jaw, then so be it!

Nevertheless she did withdraw abruptly, her attack only brief and a rare 'warning', had he been an impure being then she would have held nothing back. He was one of Divinity's children, he was entitled to a very small amount of leeway.

...but only a small amount.

"This is not yours," she repeated, motioning with her paw to the sky. "It is Divinity's," she repeated and grimaced. Even as she spoke the cogwheels in her head spun, attempting to at least find a solution to her qualm. She really couldn't afford to waste any time and while she rarely negotiated, this appeared to be a necessity,

"Take the blood," she said at last and pointed to the blood pooling nearby, seeping through the small ridges she had made around the body. "I will finish my ritual, then I shall help you feed," she growled. She gave a snort, somewhat appalled by the concept of working with another but she would do anything for her god... That and a tiny voice in her mind had made a valid point, more paws meant bigger game.

"Soquili are corrupt, they taste foul," she eyed him critically, taking care to keep herself between him and her quarry. "Bison are much better..."

She fell silent and allowed this offer to sink in, all the while preparing for a potential dispute, a possibility that was far more likely given their species!

Skoll's hungry eyes narrowed as she gave her response. She would not move, so she would die as well. A shame. Their kind's population was dwindling so low compared to those that hunted them. The large stallion stumbled backwards, rearing slightly off of the ground as he threw his head back. He narrowly avoided her razor teeth. Bleeding out was a far less rewarding death.

Before he could even retaliate, she withdrew. He stared at her, curious. Skinwalkers did not withdraw. They fought to the bitter end. His eyes followed her paw as it motioned to the sky. So Divinity wasn't the name of her kill after all. It was something more, or at least that's what he was getting from her.

Then came her proposal.

Would he listen to her and take her offer or would he chance it and attack?

On one hand he could end up with two meals, her and the deceased soquili behind her. A sweet deal, but there was this other mare in the way. Killing her would both be a pleasure and a shame.

Then there was the offer of a hunt. He could end up bison meat in his belly. The idea of catching and devouring a bison instead was much more appealing then the idea of eating an already dead soquili. After all, there was no fun in the hunt if the hunted was already dead, but there was also no fun in this gnawing hunger. He also got the blood, which while not much, it was something to sate him for a few moments and quell his lust for food. Then there was the risk she would double-cross him, use him to kill a bison, kill him and then get all three meals, an idea that did not please Skoll in the least.

No. No more thinking. Only acting. He nodded, reluctantly, but he nodded in the end. "Blood and then bison." In the end, the possible gain outweighed the risk in the second option. He did not like the idea of agreeing to anything anyone says, but the pain could wait a little longer. Besides, she would be easier to kill when she was finishing her ritual to some sky thing called Divinity anyways.

it appeared that an understanding had been achieved between the pair. It was a precarious agreement and one that was riddled with uncertainty, but it was an agreement all the same. That being said, Syntyche was not one to take one for their word and as a consequence she still remained where she was. She wasn't satisfied, not yet, she still needed to put distance between her quarry and him before she continued with the ritual.

With this in mind she lifted her paw and pointed it directly behind him, a frown creasing her delicate features. He may not have understood immediately, but as a creature who frequently performed rituals she liked them to be tidy, as such she always made a point of making sure the pools of blood drained away from the bodies and into pools a far distance from them. Consequently, Skoll would find that most of the blood was pooling behind him at the edge of these ridges.

"You will stand over there, that is where the blood comes out," she instructed, her lips pursing expectantly. Given that the kill was still fresh she knew that a considerable amount of blood was still being drained...it would buy her time. In fact, she calculated that it would buy her enough time to finish her ritual. Well, at least she'd finish it if he didn't betray her fragile trust.

"I will finish soon."

Skoll did not move his head to look but rather backed up until the pooling blood was in front of him. She was a skinwalker and a pure one at that. There were no hooves, but rather paws. She was one of his kind and as such she was strong and she was a killer, just as he was. She had on advantage though: she was fast, it seemed. There was no way he could take his eyes off of her, not even long enough to glance at the pools to know where he was going. No, if he did that, he'd end up just like the stupid soquili whose blood he was about to drink.

Without a word, the purewalker craned his neck downward and began to drink from the streams of blood of the victim, his eyes straining to keep focus on the blue mare. For her sake, he hoped she did finish quickly. The filthy liquid he was ingesting would only sate his hunger for so long. Though the thought of the tender meat of a bison, the crunch of the bone and cry as it died; it was intoxicating.

He was sold and more importantly, he was drinking. She was not naive to assume this would buy her much time and with his gaze fixed on her, she surmised that she had even less time than most would have thought. He could continue to lap up the blood until the supply ran dry but he may lose patience before then. With this in mind the female narrowed her eyes and made her gamble, turning her back to the Purewalker, she then returned to her work.

Flicking out a claw, the feline then sought to carve into the victim with measured strokes. Each rune and symbol appearing at a much quicker speed than she would have liked but she could not be fussy. She was fortunate in the sense that she had received a head start and that the usual beast would not disturb her work, but she luck was still against her. She could afford to make this sacrifice neat, she could not afford to make it perfect.

Nevertheless as the blood continued to seep from the open wounds, she made quick work of her offering and within a few short minutes, she withdrew and gave a bow towards it. An incoherent murmur echoed in her throat as she offered the victim to her master and then, with a whisper of moving paws, she turned expectantly to Skoll.

...Even a Skinwalker could keep their promises.

Skoll's head had already been raised by the time the mare finished. The blood supply had run dry, or rather what was good enough in his opinion to drink. The taste and texture was only something he could tolerate for so long before he just could not stand it anymore. His muzzle was soaked in the red liquid and it was swiftly giving him a slightly purple tint on his fur. His mouth was open, panting as he revealed his blood-soaked teeth for the world to see as his chest heaved. The skinwalker had drunk the life blood too quickly and simply forgotten to breath between gulps.

His eyes had never left her, even after she had turned her back to him. Even showing weakness, she could not be trusted. Neither of them could be.

"Bison now?" He asked, his voice still laced with desperation. Blood was simply not enough for him and the hunger was already returning to gnaw at what was left of his sane mind. Of course, that was hoping there was no other portion of this ritual left to do because his patience was nearly depleted.

His appetite seemed to be insatiable and for the life of her, Syntyche was not able to understand why. She existed in her own world, a world in which she fed rarely and was sustained with considerable ease. Yet before her stood a being that needed to feed, that needed the taste of flesh on his tongue constantly. He was of an unusual design and Syntyche was exceptionally curious as to why Divinity had created him with such qualities...obviously Divinity had a plan, but Syntyche for all her faith, could not yet see it.

Still, despite his hunger he had waited and for that reason, she noted he had some form of discipline. She should never have doubted, Divinity never created perfection without ensuring it was exactly that.

"Yes," she confirmed with a curt nod, padding away from her sacrifice and towards him. With a sweep of her tail, she gently nudged Skoll's nose and proceeded on towards the plains.

It was with considerable grace that she navigated her way through the trees and eventually she reached the forest's edge. Lifting her head, her nostrils flared and her ears perked, and there she chose to wait for the tell tale signs of both her hunting partner and the herd of Bison...

Always hunting. Always looking for his next meal. He was never satisfied. Even if had eaten both of them, he would have still been hungry and she had been correct earlier about the taste of soquili. They were bitter, tough and something he didn't readily enjoy, but it was meat. It was something to quiet the pains. Though the meat from bison... Now that would quiet the rumbling for more then usual, or at least that was his experience when he had managed to scavenge rotting remains of what he thought was a bison.

Skoll kept his eyes on her blue body as she passed by him. She could still break her promise and take his bison. She could not be trusted. He readily followed her through the forest though he was far from graceful. His gait was unsteady, his side hitting against trees as he stumbled through the forest. The hunger... The satisfaction of the blood drinking was waning already. Liquids never did seem to help. In that moment, with her back turned to him, he weighed his options. He could kill her now. Sink his teeth into her neck and break her spine before she could even fight back. There was still time to change his mind.

Bison, he reminded himself, but did nothing to stop his over salivation in anticipation for the hunt. It would be silenced, at least for a time. There would be another time and another place to kill her, but today she was of use. He could not kill her yet. Along the edges of the forest he stood, his body poised to begin the hunt.

Nostrils flared, his ears alert. Soon there would be food.
