Bitey woke with a start and scrambled onto her feet, her mind wild and disoriented. She stood before the dizziness had fully left her and ended up bonking her head into a tree. What—oh. Oh, that’s right! She’d been playing a game of hide-and-seek with Uncle Goatee, only to leave him to have an adventure by herself. Of course, it hadn’t been much of one, considering the fact that she’d fallen asleep as soon as she was in the clear. But she was up and ready now! “Hello?” she called, wondering if anyone had found her while she slept. She received no response and, pleased to find herself alone, ran purposefully about the forest that made up her home. She had no idea where she was going or what she was going to do, but whatever happened, it was sure to be exciting!
After a long, and enjoyable fly, Aurianna had landed in a bit of forest that was rather new to her. She didn't recognize it, and she didn't know who lived here. For a long moment, she sniffed the air, to be sure she wasn't going to run into the sort of trouble she was in no mood to deal with... namely skinwalkers, After she reassured herself that she was not going to be in a fight today, she shook herself off and began to walk through the woods.
She didn't realize, until the last minute, that there was some one coming in the other direction. A small some one, a foal! She attempted to stop herself, for fear of bowling the small one over and injuring the foal. In the process, Aurianna managed to trip herself, and stumbled backwards, til she sat down, hard. She landed in a position much like a wolf or dog might, but with her wings splayed wide and her expression startled, and possibly a bit pained.

The Angeni had come out of nowhere! Bitey backpedaled ran behind a tree, alarm making her quick despite the awkwardness of her gangly legs. She hid there, wondering what sort of frightening bird had come to eat her, when a hard thump could be heard. Then, silence. Cautiously, she peeked at the stranger, surprise evident in her eyes when she realized it was a soquili like her. It had not one set of wings, however, but two. She squirmed, feeling uneasy – and even unworthy – in the mare’s presence. But the female looked hurt, and she couldn’t just leave her... “Are you okay?” she called out tentatively, though she remained hidden on the other side of the tree.
Aurianna was taking several deep breaths to calm herself down. Part of her wanted to cry a bit, as her rump felt like it was probably rather bruised at this point. The other part was telling herself 'Buck up! You didn't hurt the foal, you didn't run her down, and you didn't REALLY get hurt. You just look silly, and bruises fade!' After a moment, she shook her head, and gathered her thoughts.
That's when she heard the nervous voice of the child. She looked up, and around, trying to spot the girl she'd nearly walked into. She frowned a little, not seeing her, but decided to respond anyways.
"I... Think so? I definitely bruised my behind, but I don't think I broke or sprained anything... No real way to tell, though, til I stand and test everything. Are you ok? I didn't hurt you or anything, did I? I was worried I'd run into you!" She slowly started to stand, testing each joint as she moved.

Bitey ducked her head into the shadows when she saw the stranger look up, worried she’d been seen. She scrambled back further just in case, but she’d forgotten to keep in mind that trees were round and ended up turning away from the mare, her butt out in plain view. “I’m okay!” she assured with a perk of her tail, ears strained far to catch the mare’s words. Why had they gotten so muffled? Had the stranger turned away to look over her injuries? “I thought you were gonna run into me, too, but you didn’t!” She waited, giving mare some time to “test everything.” Then, “Are you okay now?”
Aurianna stretched and moved her wings next, thoughtfully watching the little filly's rump appear as she backed up. Pondering how to handle this, she decided that, for the moment, she'd allow the girl the appearance, at least, of still being hidden.
"I do believe I am ok, and it's just bruises, possibly a few scrapes, but given where I'd be scraped, I can't really tell, and it would be thoroughly odd to ask some one to check. Perhaps I'll check it over later. I bet I've got grass, twigs, and leaves all in my tail though!" She laughed at herself, and shook her head, then added "I am very glad I didn't injure you, miss. I am Aurianna... And if there's one thing I never would desire to do, it would be harm a child."

Bitey laughed at the observation. She didn’t mean any ill by it – she’d simply never been hurt enough to realize how grave the situation may have been if the mare was wounded, and was easily amused. Still, she knew it was no good being in pain, and she said, “I’m glad!” Aurianna’s manner of speaking suggested she was a very sophisticated mare, and Bitey was wondered what the mare thought of her, and whether the opinion would get any lower when the mare realized she had neither wings nor a pretty face. “My mom and dad named me Nashide Namae,” she offered quietly, losing the chipper note that had thus far characterized her voice. “But it’s easier to call me Bitey... Do you live around here?”
"Bitey, hmmm? That's a cute nickname, though I don't know how it came about. It certainly doesn't sound like Nashide Namae. Still, I like it." She stretched some as she spoke and moved back, just a little, to give the small mare room, once she worked out she was some what exposed.
"As for where I live... No, not too close, really. I like to explore new places, meet new Soquili, make new friends. I can fly pretty well, so I can choose to go far on my adventures, and then after a few days of exploring, head home. Do you live here?

“I bite a lot,” Bitey admitted shyly. She knew strangers didn’t appreciate it and she tried to keep it to herself, but it was so hard! As if to demonstrate, a dragonfly passed overhead, and the sound of Bitey snapping at it could be heard past the tree. Embarrassed, she receded further into her hiding spot, only for an errant breeze to warn her of her error. With a jump, she glanced over her shoulder before dashing back under the tree’s protection. Her heart was hammering, but she tried to act nonchalant about the entire thing. “It sounds nice, but I dunno if I’d ever want to leave home. An’ yeah, I live here.”
"Ahhh yeah, not everyone likes being bit. Have you considered bringing something with you, like... I don't know, a piece of leather from one of the humans, to bite on if you're in a situation where you're concerned that you might be tempted but it might not be good?" She shrugs a bit, not getting bothered by the sound.
When the girl backed up, and jumped, Aurianna made sure to stay still. When she saw the girl's face for just a moment, she blinked, rather surprised, but after a moment smiled a bit. Hmmm the child is shy, and might that be why? She certainly seemed to look a little different, though it was only a quick glimpse. "You know, you don't have to hide under the tree, Bitey. I wont harm you, I promise." She said, in her kindest tone.
"And I can understand that... not every soquili likes to travel. It's all in one's own desires."

”I haven’t thought of that before!” Bitey admitted, clearly surprised by the idea and purposely choosing to ignore the mare’s kind words. Her face burned, and she wondered how much Aurianna had seen, and whether the lady would choose to draw back. But she didn’t want to think about it now. With a shake of her head, she returned her attention to the mare’s suggestion. She did have a long neck-piece like her father’s at home. It was thinner than a scarf, but long enough to reach should she wish to. It could work if she wanted, she supposed. “I like travelling,” she continued, as if wishing her conversation would be enough to keep Aurianna from being repulsed by her. “But I don’t want to leave my mom and dad and brother.”
Trying not to feel disappointed that the child chose not to come out, she shifted to lower herself carefully. She didn't want to sit on the painful spots, but she figured she could rest, carefully, as she pondered the girl. "Well you might consier it, just as an idea. I don't know. I just thought it might make it so you didn't have to worry people wouldn't like you!"
"Hmmmmmmmmm... well you could do what I do, which is travel for a bit, and return, spend time with your loved ones, then go out and travel again for a time?" She shrugged a bit and closed her eyes as she spoke. "So you could sort of do both?"

Bitey felt she could risk another peek while Aurianna settle down, and she edged closer. She lay down, too, so that she could peer up at the mare from beneath a large frond – hopefully without being seen in return. “I’ll try it,” she said, already comfortable idea. It seemed an easy solution, especially if she kept her neck-piece on all the time like her parents did. “But won’t it take a long time? If I wanted to go farther away, it wouldn’t be able to see ‘em as much. I don’t... I don’t have wings like you do.” Had there been bitterness in her voice, or was it simply regret?
Aurianna could hear the little one moving about, and maybe saw a shadow under a frond, but not detail. Pity, she wished the little one would trust her, but clearly the child was shy, poor thing. Or maybe some one had been unkind to her in the past, and she had reason to mistrust. Either way, Aurianna would not push the issue for now.
She pondered the girl's comment on the subject of travel, and tilted her head as she considered how to respond. Especially given that hint of unhappiness on the subject of wings. Finally, after a minute, she bobbed her head abit as her thoughts came to a head. "Well, yes it could take a long time. It would depend on how far you go, how much traveling you do. But some one once told me something very wise... You have to balance your desires, and sometimes, what seems like a sacrifice is a blessing in disguise. I don't know. As for the wings... They do help me, I admit... But my friend Ayidan, he likes to travel, and so does his daughter... Ayidan is wingless, and Cloud Dance, his daughter, is a flutter so that she can't fly that high, which limits her a bit. And they manage to go out, and come back. I guess it depends on how much you want it, and what desire is more important."

Bitey was quiet as she pondered over it. What would it have been like if she was like Cloud Dance and her father, and had been born with wings instead of a horizontal mouth? Would she have given up her chance at flight to stay with her father forever? It would have been so easy to tell herself that she could do it, but when she thought of what she’d be able to, where she’d be able to go, and what she could see... well, it didn’t seem so easy after all, even if it was entirely hypothetical. Maybe that was why others liked wings so much. Of course, her opinion on wings had not suddenly disappeared. Those who attempt to argue with and adjust another’s views often find themselves unsuccessful. Change had to be introduced slowly: it was easier to plant a seed in the rich earth of another’s mind than it was to bulldoze through it. Though Bitey still remained bitter about the hand she’d been dealt, the seed was definitely there, and, raised as she was by her loving family, she was naturally benign. She could enjoy another’s fortune without wanting it for herself, and she decided she would make no more begrudging comments about wings. She’d been silent for a long time, but she finally asked, “Is it worth it to you?”
Aurianna waited, silently, for Bitey to speak. She wondered if the girl was upset at her, bothered by her words, or just considering them. When the child did, finally, respond, Aurianna tilted her head. Now that was an interesting, and very wide open question. "Is it worth it to me? Well I am going to guess that what you're asking is 'Is the travel worth it to me' and if so... Correct me, of course, if I misunderstood... Yes. Absolutely. I have made so many new friends, and I get to meet people from all over."
She paused, and thought for another moment, then added "It also gives me a chance to see what passes in the lands, so if I am needed, I can help others... I'm strong..." She didn't feel the need to explain what an Angeni really was. "So I feel, since I was blessed with this strength, I have a duty to use it to help others when danger or trouble strikes. So... for me, it is worth it. It brings me joy, how can it not be?"

“I see,” Bitey said, biting her lip thoughtfully. She’d never considered it that way before, and she felt less guilty now about harboring thoughts of leaving her family to travel. There were dangers she was sure, but untold discoveries and experience and fun, too. “Thank you for telling me.” As she spoke her appreciation, she stepped out from her hiding place, her steps slow but never hesitant. The mare was a good soquili, and she was glad to have met her. Bitey smiled, the skin of her muzzle stretching right with skin and muscle but, strange as she looked, she was sure the mare would not mind. Aurianna could take a good look at her, and now Bitey could do the same.
“Your wings are pretty,” she said. It was her olive branch.

Lady Aria Starstone “I see,” Bitey said, biting her lip thoughtfully.
Aurianna smiled. "Of course. I'm always happy to share knowledge with those who truly wish to hear it." She bobbed her head in a nod, glad that she'd been able to give the girl information that was useful to her. It always pleased her to help, especially children.
When the child began to move out, Aurianna was very careful to remain still. She didn't know if Bitey would run if she moved. After she emerged, Aurianna just smiled at her, while her mind whirled away at the unusual child's face. Well well, that probably was why the girl hid... others had perhaps mocked her, or been scared. Foolish of them. Everyone was different, and it didn't matter. Aurianna didn't mind, all she found herself thinking was pure curiosity... How had such an unusual trait come about? But that didn't matter now.
"Thank you, Bitey. I am glad you think so. I think you're very pretty yourself." Her words rang with sincerity, and honesty. There was no hint of placation or of 'lying to make you feel better' in it. She meant her words, and wanted it to be clear.

((Woops, I found this in my file of tags I never posted, so I guess I never closed our RP, omg... BD; So sorry for the wait, and thank you so much for your patience! I'm at my cousin's place and I'm unsure when I'll be back home, so quoting instead of IMing!))
Bitey lowered her ears shyly, her eyes warm and happy. She drifted closer to Aurianna to give her thanks – not in words, but with a soft press of her forehead against the mare’s shoulder. She was glad to have heard the compliment from her, gladder still to find no animosity between them despite her rude behavior.
When she finally stepped away, an irritated bleat could be heard in the trees behind them. She turned towards it swiftly, remembering all at once how she’d snuck away from her Uncle Goatee.
“Oh! That’s for me,” she said, brightening at the thought of her of home and her family. “I better go.”
However, she didn’t leave right away. She stood where she was for a while longer, contemplating. And then, she gave Aurianna the gentlest bite she could muster. Most often brushed the action off as one of her many random urges to snap at things, but she was sure Aurianna would recognize it for what it was: one of the most intimate signs of affection she could give.
“I hope we can see each other again, Aurianna. Goodbye!”
