Aburame
Bugs of Destruction

User Image

The Aburame clan (Aburame Ichizoku) is a clan characterized by their use of insects as weapons. The insects live in symbiosis within the body of the shinobi. At birth, members of this clan are offered to a special breed of insects as a nest, residing just under their host's skin. The insects can leave and enter through various pores, apparently by eating their way through the skin. The insects are called destruction bugs. They feed on chakra as a food source, making them quite deadly. The relationship between the shinobi and the insects is mutually beneficial. The host grants the bugs shelter and allows them to feed off their chakra, their body becoming a living hive, and in return the bugs do the user's bidding, allowing the shinobi to perform ninjutsu-like techniques without the use of hand seals or chakra conversion.
A female bug can be left on a target, which then can be tracked by smell by the male bug, or scout bugs can be sent out and return to tell the host information about the area. For this reason, Aburame clan members are experts in espionage; they can communicate with the bugs, and the bugs specialize in stealth because they make no noise or motion during combat. In addition to utilizing insects in battle, the Aburame clan also studies insects. A major defining trait of the Aburame clan is that all of its known members wear dark sunglasses that hide their eyes as well as jackets that cover part of their face.

Rules

1. Aburame treat their bugs as an element and they get only one other element but can not learn S Rank jutsu of that element.
2. Aburame drain chakra from opponents at a level equivalent to one rank below the jutsu used.
3. Aburame can attack with their bugs without jutsu by using free form but it is often less effective. Regular attacks(like slashes with the bugs or just having them all jump in a straight line) cost D Rank Chakra. Special Attacks(like having them in specific shape formations) cost C Rank Chakra.
4. Bugs swarms can latch onto opponents and drain chakra with each post they make. The amount drained lessens as it goes down by rank each post. Only three bug swarms can be on one ninja at a time.
5. No godmoding with bugs saying they can follow anyone forever. Bugs die every 3 hours without chakra to eat meaning that if you're going to spy on someone, you need to be constantly placing bugs there
6. Bugs can easily attach themsevelves to someone, meaning no godmodding saying that you spot the bug coming at you, they make no noise or sound unless in a swarm or by your ear and have very very little chakra.

*Bug Evolution* - can only be chosen once and the Aburame's bugs must have had at least seven posts in which they experienced the thing they want to evolve against. The evolution can not be against the element that the Aburame's element is weak against. After the bugs have evolved, the selected trait loses two ranks effectiveness against the bugs.

Aburame Jutsu List
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Destruction Bug Technique [Kikaichuu no Jutsu]
Rank: E
Type: Base / ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Description:
The Aburame is able to manipulate their insects to form basic shapes and perform jutsu. The Aburame is also able to communicate with insects. Must be learned before any other Aburame jutsu. Does not require Chakra.

Insect Clone Technique [Mushi Bunshin no Jutsu]
Rank: E
Type: Bunshin / Ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Description:
Using the destruction bugs living in their body, the clan host forms a Bunshin copy of his/her-self. This bunshin is capable of any taijutsu the user is capable of at a 1/4 of his/her strength. Once damaged by an attack, the technique ends and the clone disperses back into the bugs which formed it. Can relay it's experiences back to the user.

Insect Gathering Technique [Mushi Yose no Jutsu]
Rank: E
Type: Supplementary / non-combat
Element: Bug
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Description:
Mushi Yose no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique utilized by the Aburame clan of Leaf village. After forming the needed handseals, the clan user will place their hand to a surface and extend a web-like chakra lure to insects in the surrounding area to their location. Running this web over the area will cause any nearby bugs to walk up into it and follow it back to the source

(Basic) Chakra Drain
Rank: E
Type: Offensive / ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Description:
The bug user sends bugs to attach themselves to a target and drain their chakra. This is a straightforward attack, and is rather easy to see coming.

Kikaichuu Spy
Rank: E
Type: tracking / ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Description:
Can send small groups of bugs (up to 3) to spy. This can include listening in on meetings, stealing test answers, and other information gathering tasks. At least one bug must return to the owner to deliver the information. Must have actually been there to pick up the information!!

Chakra Destruction
Rank: D
Type: Defensive / ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Description:
By sending their bugs onto a chakra item such as chakra strings or chakra blade, the bugs can drain the chakra out of the weapon rendering it useless. Can destroy E-ranked items in 1 post +1 post for every additional rank. Does not affect B-rank+ jutsus at all. Every post the bugs eat, the chakra item becomes one rank weaker. Obviously cannot work against projectiles like a fireball.

Chakra Trap
Rank: D
Type: Defensive / Genjutsu
Element: Bug
Range: 1 foot in all directions
Description:
The Aburame places a swarm of bugs somewhere in the environment. The bugs take a rough shape of whatever they are being turned into, and the user places a Genjutsu over them. The bugs automatically attack to anyone enter the immediate area (1 foot from the trap). Can make them appear as twigs, rocks or any simple small objects. Can only place 4 or 5 traps max.

Insect Sphere [Mushi Dama]
Rank: C
Type: Defensive / Ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Range: 1 foot in all directions
Description:
Mushi Dama is a Ninjutsu technique utilized by the Aburame clan of Leaf village. Using the destruction bugs living in their body, the clan host will disperse his bugs over a wide area surrounding the target. These bugs will then coalesce into a sphere that will envelope the target. The bugs can then feed off the target's chakra.

Insect Wall Technique [Mushi Kabe no Jutsu]
Rank: C
Type: Defensive / Ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Range: Close (0m ~ 5m)
Description:
Mushi Kabe no Jutsu is a Ninjutsu technique utilized by the Aburame clan of Leaf village. After forming the needed handseals, the clan user will expel the destruction bugs living in their body. The bugs will surround the member and fly at a high rate of speed forming a protective wall vortex. The vortex will be strong enough to destroy incoming bug attacks. The vortex can be disrupted and the clan members inside rendered vulnerable if sufficient explosive force is expended outside the protective shell.

Kikaichuu Soldier
Rank: S
Type: Bunshin / Ninjutsu
Element: Bug
Description: The user creates an 8 foot tall humanoid using all of his/her bugs. This creature has taijutsu skills two ranks slower than the user's, but his attacks are as hard as an average ninja of the use's rank.It cannot use any nin/genjutsu including Aburame jutsu. The user cannot use other Aburame jutsu while the soldier is formed. The soldier grabs it's target(s) and wraps around them draining their chakra and squeeze them at the same time. Takes One S-ranked jutsu, 3 A-ranked jutsu, 4 B-ranked jutsu or 6 C-ranked jutsu to force the soldier to break up. Lasts up to 3 posts when not "feeding". (otherwise normal Aburame draining rules apply)

So.... A long time ago there was this big deal.I had just started, and for whatever reason decided to make an Aburame character despite my interest in Nara. I'll look at that later, but basically our Nara system was too broken and I wanted no part of it. Well I decided my Aburame character as atually tty fun, so made ons of jutsu, and even made an attemp to make a system so aburame beetles can ually drain chakra. It was overcomplicated and messy.

Eventually we got it fixed, but at a very odd cost.
-----------------------------------------------

Aburame only ever get one element, and cant even earn S rank of that element. WHY? That makes no sense at all. The argument I was given was that an Aburame shold specialize in bugs not with elements. But no other clans or bloodlines were restricted such. Usually a bloodline or profession gave you an extra element.

So I propose we remove that silly limitation completely. If you guys want I can accept treating B”Bug” as one of the elements. Anything else needs a good explanation why such a nerf is necessary.
[/rant]

-----------------------------------------------

Alright so lets look at this one thing at a time.

Rules:
1. Remove. See Rant.

2. Determines Chakra drain as a jutsu of one rank below Aburame jutsu cost. With rule 4 this seems a fair measurement.

3. Basically replaces Insect manipulation jutsu, but considering these attacks would be ranked, and rank determines chakra drain it should be made back into a jutsu.

4. Should be combined with rule 2. You need to recast jutsu to get additional chakra drain, and jutsus effect, while indefinite, lose effectiveness the longer they last.

5. Just change to: Kikaichuu can only last 3 RP hours before returning to the host.

6. remove godmod line again. The rest is fair enough.

Bug Evolution: It worked in the series, because it made sense (if only just) that they could survive being crystalized. In RP? How can a bug become immune to fire? Or water? Bugs that are immune to rocks and trees? I suggest removing this entirely. It just doesnt make sense.

-------------------------
Bug Measurement

The systemI spoke of before largely used measurements of bugs to determine chakra drain. So 1000 bugs could drain 2 chakra or something. I dontreally want to dig that back up, and frankly we have a system now which can easily be translated. So without further ado...

Hinote Tosatsu

All sand jutsu require a source of sand to be performed unless specified by the jutsu itself. Each jutsu requires a specific amount of sand, hereafter referred to as "Units".

One unit is equal to a single cubic foot. That is, a space one foot wide, one foot deep, and one foot tall. This amount is considered as being tightly packed sand, meaning it can actually cover much more space when loose.

Jutsu will not always conform perfectly to unit based measurements. A large jutsu may not require as many units as it might seem, and a small one may require more. This is not common, but can happen

I removed the u necessary parts for convenience.

So for Aburame, 1 Unit = Approx 100 bugs

The Bug Population that can be sustained would be greater the more chakra you have, but you could only have so many (on your person so to speak) before you need a container (like sand gourds).

Unit per jutsu would be like this...ish
E= 1-2
D= 2-4
C= 3-5
B= 4-6
A=5-7
S=7-8

So the most bugs a jutsu will ever ask for is 800, you would need some way of carriying some of those.

How many you can hold by rank
AS=3 units
D= 5 units
C= 7 units
B= 8 Units
A= 9 Units
S= 10 Units

Lets say a person can only carry a population of 8 units without a container (you do after all need room for organs and such in your own body, so that is a bit of a generous number)

It is assumed that a small supply always remain in the host so you can repopulate your supply. This supply could be quantified as 1 Unit, but if you use it you risk losing your clan abilities permanently.

Your bug supply refills by half per day, or by using the Insect cocoon it can be refilled in a matter of hours.

This is all brainstorming and not solid though so input is very welcome.

Now its bedtime, I will look at jutsu at a later date, though I dont imagine I will need to do too much.

The clone needs its rank fixed of course...

I suppose using unit measurements works well enough.

I agreed with removing the Aburame elements, at the time. Can't exactly recall why now. Probably the whole "They can drain chakra, they don't need to spam ninjutsu too!" aspect. I'd say simply dropping them to two elements and their bugs should be more than fair. Probably also a chakra modifier reduction. Either -1, making their total +1, or -2, removing the bloodline bonus altogether. The bugs survive by eating your chakra, it does make sense.

2. Chakra drain should scale, I'd say accordingly to how many "Units" were used in the attack. I'd say how many actually got on the target, but that's hard to quantify at the best of times. For that matter, it makes little sense, but it might be a good idea to only allow certain jutsu the draining ability, just to balance it out a bit.

5. I used a combined count of posts and hours in Psychometry, and I think it worked well. Basically, you make the base count with posts, but use hours as a modifier, for if the posts were ridiculously short, such as your fifteen posts being a rapidfire dialogue, or long, like a player writing out an entire day in their post. In either of those cases, the user could shift the requirement over to hours instead for a more logical effect.

Evo: I had the same thought when the idea was brought up, though I've never seen that episode. I completely agree with removal.

~

Bug system! Yay!

If your units are cubic feet, like with sand and iron sand units, eight is the amount normally used to make a solid clone. So, you mght want to drop the number within the body to something a biiiit lower.

That said, I agree with having a simple system to deal with losing and gaining new bugs. Insect cocoon or just having the user passively generate new bugs constantly over time both work nicely for this. However, the latter should be at a slow rate, and a constant chakra drain until the user is "Full". This should be less like you said (Half per day) I think, and more like the chakra regen benefit. A slow, possibly increasing over time constant increase. That way it has a use in combat, though the cocoon is still more effective.

Having at least some portion of the bugs lost whenever using jutsu also works nicely for preventing the user from building up a near infinite supply. Though on further thought (I'm only half awake, give me a break.) sand doesn't have that aspect either unless the sand is somehow destroyed. Since bugs can't be placed in storage scrolls, that's actually not such a problem, so nevermind. They should die when attacked though. Give them a weakness to fire or something.

I disagree with maxing the jutsu requirements at how many bugs you can carry without a container. Max up to C rank that way, maybe, but requiring the user to either bring extra or use jutsu and strategy to build up more bugs for use in their bigger techniques is an excellent way to add depth to the character in battle. It's also how the other unit systems work, so, yeah.

I would rather Aburame not get a reduced chakra modifier, but I am most definitel biased in that area. -1 may be acceptable...

Chakra drain: That can be done, I was thinking perhaps chakra drain could be built into the jutsu rather than a general rule. It makes it much easier for non Aburame to see the drain, as well as help match the Unit cost to the chakra drain.

psychometry: Not sure I see where you are going with this.

System, clones and max body count: Since noone (to my knowledge) in the series needed a way to carry their bugs I wanted to avoid forcing everyone to do so. They are supposed to carry a whole population in their bodies after all.
Side note: I purposely changed square feet to actual count since they would never be so concentrated that square footage could apply. They would cover a slightly larger area than their collective dead bodies would occupy. Not to mention the simpler fact that how close they are when used would also vary highly. Plus, it simply makes suspension of disbelied in some of the more areas easier, such as being able to hold a population in your body.
A Reverse Chakra Regen which boosts unit growth? That seems like thin ice, a bit. Yes it could allow in battle "regeneration" but at the same time it puts a yax cost of chakra. It would have to be small so it doesnt cripple the user entirely. Or... We could remove or significantly reduce the chakra cost for clan jutsu and have a heavier generation cost...

I dont think making bug loss for jutsu is really fair or necessary, except for jutsu where you smash them against someone for damage rather than chakra drain. They should die when attacked of course, thats why I bothered to create a repopulation group which isnt used in battle.

Bug population beyond your limits. It is an interesting idea. Perhaps you can actually have up to two units beyond what you can actually keep alive. They would only last up to three hours before they starve. A container would allow you to carry all of them and to extend their life span or something. That way, keeping your container populated would indeed be a mater of strategy, you would have to anticipate your bug use...

Random side thought. Perhaps we could allow them to survive off another persons chakra. They do after all attack by feeding off other peoples chakra as easy as your own. So you could plant a bug, and it could last so long before it needs to feed. Feeding however makes its presence obvious after a couple minutes however, so they must either move/hide or attempt to return to owner. This could add an odd strategy to spy bugs, making it possible to spy and track, but more difficult to do so for an extended period.

I designed this prototype system. It brings some strategy into an Aburame's life by requiring them to carry more bugs than they naturally do. This forces them to plan ahead, creating extra Units, and adds an extra chakra cost. It also costs chakra to create new bugs whether you do it through the cocoon or over time. Chakra cost do not apply for most clan jutsu to balance these new chakra costs.

This is very rough still, but the chakra cost should actually still come about pretty close.

Aburame Bug System

1 Unit = 1000 Bugs

The population of bugs that a shinobi is capable of sustaining varies according to their chakra supply and control, as well as physical physique. The higher rank a shinobi is, the larger Kikaichuu population his/her body can sustain.

AS: 3 Units
Genin: 4 Units
Chuunin: 5 Units
S Jounin: 6 Units
Jounin: 7 Units
S-Rank: 9 Units

All Aburame also have 100 Queen Kikaichuu which are not ordinarily used, but in an emergency are equal to 1 Unit. If the Queens are lost however the Kikaichuu cannot breed and you lose all of your Aburame abilities.

In order to regain our Insects you must make them breed. This can be done one of two ways. By using the Insect Cocoon Jutsu, or by sacrificing 2 Chakra Points

Many jutsu actually require more bugs than you would ordinarily carry at any one time. In order to use more demanding jutsu you can create additional Units through the above method. Each Unit of Kikaichuu beyond your population limit require 1 chakra per post, and die after 3 hours RP time.

Contaners for bugs could be precharged with chakra and allow you to hold any extra units for longer periods of time. This way containers are not central to the system, but handy nonetheless (for all ranks).

The Queen line may just be replaced with a simple sentence that explains all Aburame have a small population which solely exists to repopulate.

Side note: After writing “breed” and “repopulate” so many times I am now very glad I am not an Aburame with an entire Insect ecosystem inside me.

Any help cleaning this up into a simpler better looking system would be great...
