The flight to Ayr felt longer than usual. Despite his exhaustion, Sam had decided to spend a day dedicated to his love of climbing, and the rocky crags of Ayr were perfect for that. Of course, the day's endeavors had left him a little worse for wear, he couldn't deny that, so he didn't know how long he'd actually want to spend here. But as he tucked his wings and landed on the rocky, unsteady surface, he felt a little more at home and relaxed. The heat of the day had warmed the rocks, and they felt comfortably heated against his claws. He purred in satisfaction, and walked along in search of the perfect climbing cliff.
And then, he saw it. A scraggly surface that dove into the sky at a ninety degree angle. Sam smiled, the tip of his tail twitching in anticipation. With a shake of his rump, he pounced at the rocky wall, sinking his claws into the stones, and hauled himself upward.
No matter how high he climbed, the top stayed a fair distance away. Samael's muscles were burning, but he was determined to make it, regardless of- A wet droplet hit the top of his head. "It's raining?" Sam wondered out loud. He could feel the sun hot against his back, though. In confusion, he tilted his gaze to the sky. And caught the murky brown eyes of a dragon on him. Without hesitation, the Ayrala shot down the rocky surface at him. Sam fanned his wings and kicked away from the cliff. A few small stones falling away as he did. The dragon plummeted by him, but it didn't take long for the creature to realize she'd missed her prey. With a snarl, she righted herself and shot after him.
Sam squealed and beat his wings frantically, diving through the crevices. The Ayrala was even larger than the Ysali's he'd fought. And she was fast Sam ducked and swerved, but she stayed close at hand, her eyes locked on the bright green of his scales that made him stand out. AT this rate, he would never lose her... He turned his head to see how close she was, and nearly had his eyes clawed out for his efforts. He dipped again, and there, tucked into the rock face, he saw what may save him.
Sam sucked in a breath, trying to make himself as small and slender as possible and tucked his wings. With no hesitation, he dove for the tiny crevice. And, as expected, the Ayrala followed him. It was a close fit for Sam. His head, claws and wings caught the sides of the rock, digging into him. But that was better than what happened to the dragon. She smashed against the cliff face, her body to big to make it through. Sam was rewarded with the sound of her neck snapping with the impact, and her limp body falling from the rocks.
He shivered, but slowly crept from his cavern, peeking his head over the edge. The glistening of an orb caught his eye, and he smiled. Triumphantly, he dove down to claim it, showing his pointed teeth in a victorious smile. Satisfied with today's events, he collected the orb, then started his trip back to Eowyn.
