The mare had chosen to watched the skies while her mate wondered off to do, well she wasn't too certain what he chose to do during his private time. Sometimes he returned in anger, and other times he was as content as he allowed himself to be. She never questioned him, but chose to do her best to keep him calm, just liked the clouds appeared to be at the moment. Iona prayed no more rain would come. It may be summer, but the storms were growing ridiculous.

Her thoughts were cut short by the sound of her own name, and there was no mistaking who was calling out to her. "I'm a bit north, Zach! Has something troubled you this time?"

Iona smiled at her mate, her mind searching for answers while her tail gently wrapped around his own. Her family didn't have troubles like his own, so she always had a bit of trouble trying to wrap her mind around such drama. Still, she wanted to be there to listen, comfort and help. "Your troubles do not bother me Zach. What kind of character would I have if I told you to shut up everything time something was bothering you? I know you will be there when I am troubled, so I do the same." She gave a nod at her own words. "As for Hania, every father, whether they show it or not, feels some sense of discomfort when their child, especially their daughters, find a potential mate. I have no doubt he feel something towards his pawed and clawed male, but if that is who his daughter has feelings for then what is he to say? Is he to disown her for her feelings towards him? Should he kick him out and ban him from seeing her, only to have her sneak around her father? Some might do that, but sometimes things start to change."

"I am, well I am unsure at the moment. I have thought of possibly paying a visit to my mother or brother, especially since I have yet to meet this mate he speaks up, but I am unsure of where they are at the moment." It had been quite some time since she had talked to her family, but she was sure they were all doing well, except maybe her sister. She had not seen the mare since they were children. Iona's ears perked at Zach's question. "Your father? Are you sure about that?" She had always seen the two of them like a snake and a mongoose trapped in a cage. Both perfectly capable of holding their own, and yet incapable of staying tolerant for more than half a second. Or at least that was the picture she painted from talks and rumors of them both. "I don't really want to ask for something you are uncomfortable with..."

Iona’s expression turned to that of a gentle smile. While it was true that Zach might not be one of the easiest figures for some to love and connect with, somehow Iona was able to do so. She loved him just as he was with troubles and all. Really, the mare could not even being to think of what the stallion would be like if he were the type of mate most would search for. The thought did prove amusing though. Zachariah acting princely? Yeah right.

“If anything, I think it speak volume that you decide to stand by them even though you don’t think highly of them. I know they have had more than their fair share of drama and problems, but, well, I guess I am unsure of that as well.”

Never before had she seen a family so dysfunctional and yet bonded as them. So much hate and yet so much love in one package.

“Still, maybe you will find the freedom you are searching for one day. Or at the very least there may come a day where you and your father settle your differences, don’t you think? It may not end well seeing as you both seem to be hard headed in your own ways, but at least you would be able to find some sense of closure.”

With that said Iona turned her gaze towards a presence in the sky. A hawk was circling overhead in search of prey, or possibly something else.

“And yes, if I do go in search of my family I would love for you to come along with me. I think a trip out of this forest would be good for the both of us. Your sister and cousins seem to take regular trips away, and they seem quite stable, though some also seem eternally grumpy as well…”
