Glacier hated this blasted season, especially down here in the Kawani lands. The sun was beating down on the meadow, and Glacier was laying out in the warm grass, virtually feeling like he was cooking. Even through his thick northern coat had thinned out in the summer heat, he had grown up in a harsh, cold landscape where the sun never felt so blistering. Every now and then a breeze would roll by, and he's smile as the cool air got caught in his fluffy fur. But the feeling was fleeting, and soon he was back to languishing in the heat.
With a sigh he rolled over, looking for his mate. What was taking her so long?

Laikaylah made her way back from the river, several wet rags on her back and a basket overflowing with big, juicy, ripe blackberries. She came over the hill to the meadow that her and her mate, Glacier, called home to see him laying out in the grass, carrying on like he was dying.
You big baby, she thought to herself with a chuckle as she trotted over. "Hello my love," she said with a cheery clip in her voice and a nuzzle. Without even asking, she pulled one of the blankets she had soaked in the ice-cold mountain-river run-off over him. "There, that should help."

Glacier smiled with relief as his mate came into few. He lifted his head to return her nuzzle, then the cold-blanket was thrown over him. The sudden chill made him shudder, but the cool relief flooding through his veins shortly after made it worth it. "Oh.. thank you so much..." he purred, happily pulling the blanket up over his face and letting his mane get soaked with the mountain runoff water as well. "This is perfect. I was dying, I swear. I'm not built for these blistering summers!"

"You aren't dying," she chided playfully. She set down her basket of blackberries down and then pulled the blanket up over her own head. She gave a sigh of relief as a breeze came over the meadow and cooled her skin where the water evaporated. "I'm getting rather used to it," she said with a smile. "Look at all the colors around! Not just white as far as the eye can see..."
Her voice drifted off and her ears swiveled around as she heard something approaching.

Dennaedis led the way, working her way through the thick tall grass. "Rock here," she said, thumping her hoof against it loud enough to make a noise, then kept going. She knew her Soquili companion was following her by following the sounds of her small body weaving through the grass. All she had to do was make sure she called out any big obstacles, like rocks, as she came across them.
Indeed, Mikaeus was an expert by now at finding his way. Dennaedis was a great blessing, being his eyes when the blind stallion needed them, but for the most part she was there for emergency measure only. He did his best not to use her as a complete crutch.
Dennaedis came up over the hill and saw the brightly colored pelts of Mikaeus parents and smiled to herself. She didn't say anything, yet, wanting to see the delight on her friend's face when they called out to him.

Laikaylah's heart lifted as she saw the little goat making her way through the meadow; she new immediately what that meant before she even saw her son, who appeared just a few paces afterwards.
She nudged her lazy, sun-drink mate and started trotting over to her son. "Mikaeus!" she exclaimed, the excitement obvious in her voice. "Oh, son, I've missed you!"

Glacier would have been happy just languishing in the heat all day, laying in the soft grass with this wet, cold blanket draped over his head; shielding him from the harshest of the sun's rays. He didn't see the coming herald of his son's arrival, and when his mate nudged him with her hood he did nothing but grunt apathetically.
But then he heard Laikaylah announce her son's name, and a big smile broke over his face. For the first time in probably house, the stallion rolled over on to his feet, squinting into the sun. "Mikaeus," he echoed, rushing up to meet him as well.

"Mom! Dad!" A huge smile broke out over the young stallions face, and Dennaedis knew she had done a good job. She stepped back and out of the way, not wanting to get in the way of the little family reunion. She knew as long as he was with family they would take care of her normal duties. Not that she minded doing them, but it was good to have a break every now and then. She nudged MIkaeus's leg to let him know she was 'off duty' and wandered off to go find some good clover to munch on.
Mikaeus used his parents' voice as a guide and rushed over to them. Their familiar smell filled his nostrils and be immediately buried his face into their soft, thick fur. "Good to see you!" he said, muffled by his hugging. "Its been too long," he admitted, adding a sheepish smile. It was his own fault for not coming back sooner; he knew that. But still, he couldn't be happier to be in their company now.

Laikaylah nuzzled him, taking in his scent and his appearance. She worried about him, like she worried about all her children. But of course, with him being blind she couldn't help but worry alittle more. There was just a whole array of issues that could arise; of things that could go so terribly, terribly wrong. But much to her relief, he looked rather healthy. He was all grown up now - blossomed into a strong, handsome stallion. He looked clean and well fed...and for being a blind young stallion his mane was in generally good order.
Not good enough for his mother, of course, and she immediately went to fussing with his mane. She nibbled at his long curls; a trait he had inherited from her, and began to pull and primp them.

Glacier was so proud of his son. He wouldn't lie; when they had discovered their son was blind when he was just a young colt, he mourned for how much of the life his son would miss. All the beautiful sights of the world - all the adventures and traveling… not to mention all the dangers that being blind possess. Would he be able to find enough food? Look out for predators? Nothing was scarier to a new father like feeling they would lose their own child. Part of him felt guilty, responsible somehow for not creating the best child he could; like it was part of him that failed his son. He knew that blindness ran in his mate's family, but he still couldn't shake that he had done something wrong…
…but that was all in the past now. As his beautiful son grew up, he kept blowing Glacier away with how capable he really was.
"So happy to see you," he said, nudging him playfully with his hip. "What have you been up to? Break any young mares hearts yet?"

"Mooo-ommm," he lamented as Laikaylah began to futz with his hair, though there was a smile in his voice. Having her so close, smelling her scent, she could do whatever she wanted with his hair. It's not like he could see it anyway, he thought to himself with a smirk. He was happy to see his family; though he never regretted the decision to go out on his own. He knew he would have been welcomed to stay with his parents; live a sheltered life with them taking care of him - like a colt - his whole life. But that;s not the life he wanted. He wanted to be just a regular stallion like everyone - to go our and adventure. Explore the world, meet a nice mare to call his own one day.
It was hard, but he did it. Between his seeing-eye goat, Dennaedis, and a lot of determination, Mikaeus was about as normal as any stallion his age: seeing the world and learning to live without his parents looking over his shoulder all the time. Thinking about mares alot even if he didn't have any experiencing wooing them yet.
And missing home, though he loathed to admit it.
"No mares yet," he said with a small blush as he looked towards his father. "Well, I mean, I've met some, but no broken hearts yet. On either side, at least."

Laikaylah ignored him and continued to groom him to a level of her satisfaction. She couldn't help but feel just the least bit disappointed about his lack of romance; she was already ready for grandchildren! But there was no point in rushing these things;s he could hardly believe he was at the age that her sons could even be thinking about grandchildren! She was just a filly herself! Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration but she didn't have any plans to stop having foals of her own anytime soon. She wanted a big, huge, loving family and was already five children in!
But...adding grandchildren to the mix! Well, that would just be icing on the cake!
"It will happen," she said, nuzzling his ear. "Just look at how handsome you are. You have all your mother's good looks!" She gave a wink and a playfuil nudge of her own.

"Of course it will!" Glacier confirmed. "Just give it time, there's no use rushing that sort of thing you know. When it happens, and its real, you'll know it!" Glacier realized he was getting very close to point of mushy, but he felt that little nagging too: having grandchildren would make him feel old, sure, but he just had so much love to give he couldn't wait to spread it out throughout the generations.
He wold have kids of his own again, too, he knew it. His mate and him at been trying, but ultimately it would be up to the spirits to decide when their time was ready again. They had been blessed with five foals so far; certainly not something to turn your snout up at.

"I'm not in any hurry," he assured them; which was mostly true. While mares were definitely something on his mind, foals weren't a priority for him just yet. One day he would want a big family; just like everyone in his family seemed to have wanted, but she still felt like there was a lot of world out there to explore.
"But thanks for asking. I've met some pretty fascinating Soquili. I plan to tell you all about it," he started, giving them one last hug before launching into his intriguing tales.
