The Taber hospital was originally located on 50th St. and 50th Ave. and claims of ghostly activity started being reported after it had closed down. However, the mysterious lights that were seen weren't coming from the hospital building itself but rather the nurse's residence next door. "It was a building beside the hospital, [because] nurses sometimes used to have to live on-site," Belinda explains. "People would look at the attic and would see lights. Then they'd look again and the lights would be gone." There are also stories of strange noises when no one was there to make noise. People attribute these occurrences to a ghost they call Maynard.
"The legend of Maynard is that he moved from the old hospital to the new one," says Belinda. "So, they had a ghost in the hospital as soon as it opened." And though there are no stories of lights or noises being seen or heard at the new location, there has been a sighting of death itself. Two older women have claimed to see the Grim Reaper. "If they reported [seeing] him during the day, someone would always die at night," says Belinda.
