The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and the temperature was perfect. Today was the perfect day to have a picnic, even if it was just by herself. Setting up by the beach with her basket of goodies, she pulled out her blanket and spread it out. Her rainbow wings fluttered slightly with excitement, wondering which one of the delicious fruits she had brought would be the first to touch her soft lips. After a moment of thought, Crystal picked a strawberry out and happily chomped upon it. There was only one thing missing...someone to share it with. The angel was terribly lonely. A gentle sigh slipped from her lips as she looked upon the pae frolicking in the water. It hadn't been all that long since the Guardians had awakened her, and so it was to be expected that she had no friends. But a one pae picnic...was a little pathetic. She reached in for another strawberry and lifted her golden eyes to the sky. Maybe today would be the day she found a friend.

It was such a nice day. Not overcast, but enough clouds to keep the land beneath the sun cooler. The wind coming off the water was particularly enticing as Sparrow took moments to jump up, practicing her flying for a few minutes against the current, before setting back down to rest. Whether or not she was actually improving in her flight on-pace didn't matter, as she felt she was the best student her teacher could have ever had. Of course, even better than her friend, Aella. After all, the poor girl didn't seem to have any sort of fighting instinct like her, so how was she going to be able to make it in the world without her claws?
That's not to say it was impossible, but still, the bird felt like her friend would have it rough. Just like she felt she was having it rough. They didn't get to hang out as often as she would have liked, ignoring the fact that she almost needed constant attention to be satisfied, and could use some more friends. Perhaps she could even make one or two just her friends... Wouldn't that be nice to be the sole beneficiary of someone's attention?
Oh well! Perhaps that day would come (preferably sooner before she was bored out of her mind). Until then, flying practice so that she could show off to huge crowds of people for their adoration when she was older.

Another purple hand slipped into the basket she had taken from the City, her mind preoccupied with her own predicament. Friends, hobbies, her loud next door neighbor... She pulled out a juicy piece of watermelon and plopped it into her mouth. It was right about then that she noticed a little harpy trying her hardest to maintain air. It was cute, watching a youngin try to grow up. In a fluid motion the other stood as she tucked a piece of crimson hair behind an ear. Instead of moping about lack of friends, she should pae-up and do something about it. With a little self pep talk, she was on her way to the blue and midnight teenager. "Hey there, working hard?" Good thing she wasn't shy...hopefully the other wasn't either. Crystal didn't want to scare her off. "If you want a rest, I've got entirely too much food in one basket for just one pae."

Turning around to face the other pae as she was addressed, Sparrow touched down lightly and folded her wings behind her, shrugging. "Nah, not really." Shy? Psh! There was little more that she enjoyed than being noticed, just as she was being at this very moment. It was so nice to be appreciated for what you're doing, whether or not it may have deserved that attention.
Wait... Was she just offered... food? Was that even a question anymore; who in their right mind would turn around food? "Sure, I've got the time, why not?" Inside, she was far more giddy than she sounded. Oh, how she hoped there was some nice cuts of meat! "I'm Sparrow. What's your name?"

The harpy had said yes! The female smiled as bright as her sparkling eyes as she motioned towards her little basket. In one minute she had made more progress with interacting with pae than she had in the past month of waiting for pae to approach her. "Crystal. It's nice to meet you Sparrow!" The harpy had no idea just how nice it was. After a month of not talking to a soul, the angel was almost bursting with excitement at finally finding company. "I haven't seen you before. Do you live around here?"

Quickly, happily the bird followed after with the prospect of attention and food. "Nice to meet you too, Crystal! Hmm... That's a nice name, I think. Did your mother give it to you too?" As far as she understood, most fae seemed to know their parents, whether it be birth-parents, a sort of tree, or just the people who raised you. Actually... Where did people like that come from? She'd never seen anyone without hooves or fins. "By the way, what are you? Where are your fins...? or your hooves...? or your claws...?"
Weird.

Happily walking along the beach, the female tilted her head slightly in thought. "Mother? I don't know truth be told. Everything in my past is sort of fuzzy...One day I just sort of woke up by the alters." She gave a bit of a shrug as she reached up to twirl a strand of crimson hair. "I think it may be amnesia, but no one has recognized me either." They had just reached the blanket by the time the other asked about her race. Crystal blinked at the harpy before grinning widely. The other had seen faun, naiads and other harpies, but never one of her? "I'm not supposed to have hooves or fins or even claws." She then spread her feathery rainbow wings, much like Sparrows in texture. "I'm an Angel!" For some reason she was rather proud of it, though she didn't know why precisely. With that she sat down and opened the basket. "Lets see here...I've got fruit...some baked ham...nuts..." The female listed off, pulling out the items one by one.

"Hmm... Alters? What are those?" First these strange looks, now these strange memories and words. Did she really want the attention of some pae that was clearly just... strange, for a lack of a better vocabulary to describe her. Heck, what was amnesia anyways? Sounded like some type of fungus, something Sparrow certainly did not want to catch.
Wait. What? No special legs...? That was simply absurd! "An... angel? You have bigger wings than my friends or the pegasai faunies. Like, a lot bigger." Yup, now would be a good time to leave before things got any...
BUT WAIT. Was that... ham? Delicious, tender pig meat? Ooohhh... Yes. It had been so long since she'd had any real meat to eat, since neither of her parents particularly ate it a lot. Most the time, when she wanted real flesh to eat, she had to try and catch it herself with what natural hunting ability she had. It'd be nice to eat someone else's food for once... Okay. That's it, she's staying no matter how silly this pae was being.

((Dia poked me about my previous post <.<; Not supposed to know what a harpy is. SOOOO, we're gonna pretend that any alluding that she knew from my last post nevah happened!))
The poor thing really was clueless! Didn't Sparrow go with offerings for the Guardians? Crystal frowned ever so lightly. "If you'd like, I can show you it sometime. It's a big platform where statues of the Guardians stand. Sometimes if you pray hard enough there, they might even hear you." She plopped a piece of watermelon into her mouth, her frown disappearing into a look of curiousity. "Come to think of it, what are you? Some kind of hybrid?" In the City she had seen many types of pae with different aspects, but none with feet like a...like a bird. Maybe that was why she was named Sparrow. Perhaps she was an angel pae mixed with a sparrow...though how that would work the rainbow female wasn't sure. "Oh! Where are my manners. Dig into anything you'd like."

What? Praying... what did that even entail? Wasn't that making a wish for something, hoping that it might happen; if so, what point was there in asking a bunch of statues to grant them? Statues don't do anything, they're just stone, or ivory, or whatever material they happen to be made of. The entire concept seemed absolutely absurd. However, as much as Sparrow dearly wanted to voice her opinion of the subject... food was now involved in the situation. Perhaps if she offended the other by rejecting this offer, she would revoke her offer of meat.
Which was not worth the risk.
Instead, she just shrugged, not particularly making eye contact or showing too much interest. "Maybe sometime later, if you really want." Hopefully she wasn't as involved in the idea as she seemed. Watching Crystal start to eat, she very discretely began to move closer to the ham, her mouth nearly drooling at the prospect of eating it. "A hybrid? I don't think so. Mom says I hatched from an egg she thought was a stone that she brought home from a dance she went to at Venus's temple..." There it was, the invitation to actually eat. Taking a large piece of the meat, she, rather savagely, tore into it a couple of times before continuing. "...she said nobody knows what I am. Not even Cheiftain Rais or Princess Celestia. I'm not the only one who looks like this though, cause Aella is the same thing as me."

Sadly, Crystal didn't take much notice of the others lack of interest. The fact that the other agreed to go over stimulated her mind as it is. Finally, a chance to do some good on the island! If she could bring even one pae to the love of the Guardians, that would be quite the accomplishment. Not that it was unexpected. She was an Angel after all, arguably the best race on the island. Since Sparrow was quite obviously part Angel, then she simply had to feel the same way. "An...egg?" Just like a bird. Not that it was unheard of. Naiads were born from pearl-like eggs. Her mental track was pulled from the rails though as the other suddenly tore into the piece of meat. Blinking slowly, Crystal settled on a chuckle. "Have as much of it as you want!" She herself would settle on the nuts, leaving the ham wide open for her picnic guest. "So...no one knows..." If the Chief and Princess didn't know, no small wonder why she didn't. "Obviously you're some kind of Bird-Pae. Maybe that's your race? Angel, Demon, Fae, Naiad, Faun, and Bird. Why not?" Though secretly she still believed Sparrow was some sort of hybrid. Like the nymphs born of fae and angels.

Shrugging, the bird continued on her piece of meat, rather happy about the fact that the angel seemed to show little interest in her ham. After a minute or two of listening, she chimed in, "Yup, an egg." Yeah, that was pretty weird, wasn't it. Didn't pae usually come from their mothers or something? Live birth, right? "Yeah, it's the mystery of the year. We just popped up randomly and now we're here..." she paused, mulling over the suggestion a bit. "Maybe? I guess that could work. Someone should suggest the idea to the pae in charge." Demon and fae? What were those kind of pae anyways?

Perhaps someone SHOULD bring that up to the pae in charge. Perhaps one of the Hallowed or the like because the Faun chief already had been alerted to her. The silly faun didn't know; it was time for the true powers that be to take a look. "What's it like, having...claws." She looked rather pointedly at the talons. Even Naiads got to experience normal feet and toes when they left the water. "Are they permanent?" At first it seemed like a silly question, but with the whole egg thing she seemed partially like a naiad. The female honestly was curious, as it seemed she was one of the few pae who had stumbled upon a Bird-pae. As far as she knew, else their type would have been well known by now. Or in the very least, Sparrow would know what she was.

The bird tilted her head at the obscure question, answering with one of her own in an almost sarcastic tone. "What are feet like? I've never had them, like you've never had claws. Can't really complain with what I got, though, like I don't think you'd complain about yours." Little effort was made in concealing her dumbfoundment in the next question. "Really...?" Was this angel actually asking her this? What a completely ridiculous, stupid question. "...of course they are. What else would they be?" The naive confusion being raised by her appearance was being completely lost to the teenager who was now at the bone of her meat.

The female frowned lightly, not liking the incredulous tone back at her. She fluttered her rainbow wings and crossed her arms matter-of-factly. "Naiad's came from eggs and can change from fins to legs. It's not a far stretch." Her tone was defensive as she spoke, not enjoying the turn in conversation one bit. Here she was, trying to make interesting topics, and she got looked at like she was an idiot! "If anyone knew what you were, this wouldn't be a problem."
