Whispers clogged his hearing, and shadows clouded his vision. Vague thoughts passed through his mind, and only one thing remained clear. He wasn’t himself anymore.

His time had been up. He had been free too long, wandered too far away from his family’s kingdom until he had reached so far beyond the realm that his curse had truly activated, leaving nothing left of him in his own mind. Or so that’s what he believed anyway. In his culture, the lands he came from, curses and other such ‘tricks’ were very real. And belief in anything gave it power over one’s mind.

But his new self didn’t mind much. His new self rather liked being able to stretch and breathe on its own, not put to sleep for ages and ages. Now he was truly free.

There was nothing new about his appearance, nothing new to suggest that anything was different about him. Then again, no one in these parts knew his original self anyway so he would remain lost forever more.

For now, he was content to soak in the sun from his new body, smell the scents in the air, and watch the very beauty of life unfold around him. How putrid it all was. The vivid colors, the cheerful noises... Where was the ugliness? The pain? The struggles of life? It looked like he had some work to do.

And it was in these thoughts he found himself distracted when he heard a colt nearby making frustrated sounds. Seeing as how he had nothing else to do, he decided to approach.

OOC; For quick reference, and because I don't have a full explanation for what I'm planning to do with him and his maybe not so apparent craziness, any mention of curses and 'a new self' is him believing that he's been possessed. In reality, his family has an inherited trait of schizophrenia/multiple personalities/bi-polar, whatever you want to call it. He doesn't have all of those traits smashed together. xD But it's enough for him to believe the curse he'd been told about as a foal is 'real'.

“Why must you insist on getting in my face?” The colt hissed through his teeth at the aggravator, a golden-winged butterfly. As a distempered young creature, the colt didn’t see the beauty in such existence or the delicate nature of its wings or how the light shown just right through said wings and made the world appear brighter.

No, all he saw was an insect getting in his face and bothering him.

A snort let loose from his nostrils as he made another sound of frustration before he tried chomping at it again. In aggravation, he stomped around, occasionally hopping to try and get higher so he could snatch it with his teeth. It must have been a comical appearance, to watch the colt chasing the butterfly, even if he was following like one would with an annoying fly that wouldn’t leave someone alone.

It seemed to take ages before he caught it with his teeth and spat it out, its wings ripped and its body crushed from the force of his teeth on its weak little body. “Finally! Irritating little thing,” he huffed and stomped on it for good measure before glancing up to try and figure out just what he’d been doing that was so important before he got distracted.

And before he could get re-immersed in whatever it was he had been doing, he caught sight of someone watching him. His ears perked up and he stood a little straighter. Mother didn’t like visitors so neither did Vorty. And they liked strangers even less.

“What do you want?” he snapped at the stranger, instantly on alert. Even more so because it was possible someone had seen him doing something so childish as chasing a butterfly.

OOC; Little bit of backplotting to try and flesh out Vorty's youth. :3

Oh, foals were so adorable when they were being defensive. There was no reason for Argyris to take that seriously though. Children were children, no matter their species. He didn’t see a parent or guardian around either, but he would still watch what he said. There was a deep throbbing in the back of his head from the switch of personalities, and he would hate to further irritate that headache by making a foal start being loud to get attention. Plus, it wasn’t every day you met a foal who didn’t like butterflies or nature’s fine creatures.

“Oh, I’m just passing through. Don’t worry yourself,” he hummed peacefully as he shifted his stance slightly so he wasn’t leaning too much on one of his forelegs as he had been about to step forward until just that moment.

“It’s not often you see a foal chasing a butterfly with the intent of swatting it,” he mused.

“I’m not some stupid foal who’s entertained by such mindless and childish things,” he spat at him and shifted on his hooves uneasily as he nearly lost his footing when he side-stepped ever so slightly out of habit. That brief moment made him even more frustrated as he hated to appear his age or look weak to anyone. It wasn’t his fault that he was all legs and still had trouble getting adjusted to them, often unable to properly manage his spacial awareness either.

“What’s it to you anyway?” he asked somewhat uneasily but not because he was afraid of the stranger. He just wanted him to go away but wasn’t entirely sure how to go about that. Not to mention, he still didn’t like having a witness to his earlier behavior.

Argyris studied the young colt with an interested look, but he didn’t answer his question. No reason to. It didn’t matter to him either way as this was merely a passing fancy, and he would more than likely forget about the colt soon after he left the area.

“You were entertained with crushing it though,” he mused thoughtfully and watched to see how the colt would react to that statement. “Nothing wrong with that.” Most would say that was something wrong right there, but he personally enjoyed the darker side of nature so it pleased him to see a youngling honor that too.

“But don’t worry yourself. I can keep a secret, and I’m on my way anyway. Have fun~” he hummed as he tossed his mane somewhat before making his way away from the foal to leave him in peace.

The colt didn’t have anything more to say to the older stallion. He could have replied to the first statement but how? He wasn’t going to deny it. He wasn’t going to take pride in it either as that was blatant attention-seeking, and there was no reason he was going to grovel for attention from some random stranger when it wouldn’t benefit him. Before he could think of any reasonable reply, there was the second statement. That got Vorty to give the stranger a suspicious glance.

But by then, the stranger was already leaving so Vorty watched him go, determined to just not say anything at all. Once the stranger was far enough away, Vorty turned away as well to trot back closer to where his mother was so he could see what she was doing and put the meeting with the stranger to the back of his mind.

OOC; End of thread. :3
