Moonlight on the Lake -- a private roleplay
Players:
Ren and Sevilin
Where: Barton Coast and Bass'ken Lake
When: A warm night

---

Sevilin was fairly sure that if he had to look at Josh's hollow face one more time, he would snap. It was irrational and wholly unhelpful, but that was just how he felt. After Lulu had left, the victory had been so satisfying, but it hadn't lasted long. When she didn't come home that night, everyone began to worry, even the sea fairy wasn't immune to it.

When the following day came and went, though, it went beyond simple worry. The guilt started to trickle in slowly, leaving him beyond irritable. He hadn't meant to completely drive her away! And now that Josh couldn't find her, it was ultimately Sevilin's fault, and he didn't like that. She should have to take some responsibility for this as well! You can't have a fight without two parties, so he really couldn't understand why he had to feel this miserable when he looked at Lulu's guardian.

It was enough to drive him, too, out of the house (after promising to come back, of course). Really, he had no destination in mind. The blue frei simply began to float through Aekea and out west, a path he religiously took to get to the Barton coast. If he could find solace, it would be there.

The port of Gambino was still alive and kicking, but the coast was fairly deserted at this hour. That suited Sevilin just fine. The smell of the salty sea and the sound of its frothing waves immediately soothed some of his problems. Not all of them, though, or the biggest.

"Stupid Lulu," he grumbled, thinking of how melodramatic her disappearance was turning. Sevilin knew she would come back at the most convenient time when she could suck up every single ounce of attention from everyone involved, the sea fairy included.

Silently grousing, the little frei turned to the ocean, watching the moonlight ripple across the water's surface.

The prior night had left her gutted for energy. She’d woken up disoriented and confused, the lava lamp glowing warmly and bubbling with slow content upon her bedside table. Although the majority of the paint had long dried upon her body, the glide over the ocean had created a mist that moistened the colours on her form and they now caked her bed in a muddied rainbow.

Doucette had not been happy when she’d checked in on her before work, unhappy comments made about the state of the sheets and how exactly the aurora had managed to afford something like a lava lamp. Revontulet had just stared at her with a bleary, silent disposition. She remembered what happened, but it seemed like a distant memory, as if she’d been sleeping for days rather than a few short hours.

House arrest.

Her guardian told her not to leave the house all day, and she didn’t.

Now it was night time though, and Doucette had gone to bed. Surely, since she’d kept her promise and not let the house during the day the aurora could go out and feed, could re-charge so to speak.

Sneaking out, Ren drifted across the ocean without a serious destination, her ribbon trailing along the surface lazily. She waited until she was closer to the shore to feed, worried Doucette might spot the tell-tale glow of her hair and realize that her charge had slipped out. Not that the redhead could have gotten to the frei at this point, but there was no need to exacerbate the woman’s irritation if she didn’t need to.

Once a good distance from the island she drank deep, her rune glowing with a swollenness like a water balloon being filled too full while her hair took on a faint glow, all blues and shifting greens. Content, the girl continued to the shore, hoping to simply lay out on the beach for a while and enjoy the silence.

The sharp glow from the moon suddenly took a backseat to a challenging radiance that blossomed behind Sevilin. Unlike the moon, it felt alive and distantly familiar.

The sea fairy found that it did not come from the ocean, surprisingly. Shifting his curious blue eyes, he found it sprung from the dry shore to his left. Blues and greens shimmered and shifted like a soft curtain, and Sevilin was beyond intrigued. He floated toward it without thought, like a moth to an enticing flame. It was sad to see a mermaid tempted by her own wiles, but he couldn't do much about it now.

The closer her got, the more he realized there was a figure at the center of the radiance. It was much like himself: Pretty feminine face, long blue hair that shifted color like the sea. It would have been polite, at this point, to actually say something instead of gape, but the blue frei had sort of forgotten that physical function.

Revontulet shook out her hair in rippling waves down her back as she reclined on the sand. Her arms stretched behind her and pressed into the sand to prop her up, giving a delicate curved arch in the upper back as she tilted her chin up and closed her eyes. Although she was full, moonbathing was still relaxing and it felt right somehow. Rivener had told her she was made of aurora borealis, but she had never seen this thing before and it was hard to imagine she would feel more comfortable and content than she did now with the moon caressing her pale skin.

Some sound, perhaps the other frei’s doing or not, cause her to sit upright and look about, catching sight of the approaching female. For a brief second she was unhappy to be disturbed, but the usual warm smile slipped quickly and easily onto her coral lips and with a flutter of her wings she pushed herself vertical and made her way over to the other.

Hello,” she said softly, “are you made of the night too? Did you come out to eat?

((ooc: if this helps at all for your reference, Sev's voice is very boyish and low, so it makes a really weird juxtaposition lol))

"Oh, uhm, hello," he returned her greeting with his own, confident despite the frei being a complete stranger. With the exception of a few encounters, Sevilin had never met a truly unfriendly raevan before. "Hope I didn't disturb you." It was added on as an afterthought, but it was definitely important. He didn't need anyone to think he was rude (at least not anymore). "No, not exactly, I'm from the sea," he explained, gesturing to the big blue behind them with his thumb. "I just came out here to clear my head--Though, I do like to eat here! It's... peaceful." Although, he wished he could say the same for his thoughts. Generally, they cleared as he admired the sea, but it was not an easy fix this time. The frei, however, seemed a better focal point for his peace. Her long shimmering hair held his eyes like a hypnotist's watch.

"Oh! I'm Sevilin, by the way!" Thankfully his manners snapped him out of his revere before he made a total a** of himself. Eagerly, he thrust his hand out to the frei to shake. The sea fairy was really curious to feel how soft her skin was against his.

Sevilin,” she repeated, her voice delicate and feminine but with a unique huskiness to it with a controlled softness to it. The other frei’s name was slightly awkward upon her tongue, but she’d done her best and it had not come out terribly mangled. The letters did not seem to form a good balance to the aurora, but she knew her own name was not the most easily pronounced for many.

Once he offered his hand, for she had decided it was a boy after hearing the voice – a very pretty, fragile looking thing but a boy all the same – she moved forward, perhaps a bit too keen. Ren slipped her fingers into his hand, a slow, deliberate movement to experience as much touch as possible. Her skin was not so much soft, but it was smooth and cool, reminiscent of skipping stones. If squeezed, the aurora’s hand would be somewhat pliable, but it had more resistance than the average human, a subtle difference in her chemical makeup.

The watery frei used a lot of words when he spoke, and she listened appropriately, carefully keeping her expression one of interest. They shared a common interest in the sea, a similar desire for the calm that could be found along the shoreline. Revontulet felt like she was meeting a kindred spirit. “I eat the sea too.” she said, not sure if he’d find the information conflicting as she’d already called herself a night-creature.

But what exactly was a water-light-night-frei anyway?

Oh, and my name is Revontulet.

Her skin was nothing like he expected. The cool touch was surprising but not unpleasant. After all, he usually was the one influencing the temperature between his environment or other raevans, so a little cold meant nothing to him after a few seconds. What was most surprising was the texture of her skin. It felt like stone polished to a smooth, glass-like finish by the sand and surf of the ocean. It was a sharp contrast to his. All the salt he drank and inevitably excreted had left his hands rough and abrasive despite his best efforts to keep them soft and delicate. Sevilin's calloused skin was probably the most masculine thing about him.

"It's very nice to meet you, Ray-von-too-let." He took the time to sound the syllables out to make sure he caught each one. His name wasn't the most usual, but hers was certainly a mouthful in comparison. Actually, her name reminded him of "Tulip", which then made him blush at such a romantic sentiment. Still, it did fit her pretty face and hair. A certain megalomaniac bunny could have learned something from her delicate demeanor. The thought of LuLu deflated his mood significantly, but he refused to let that stupid girl have control over him in any way.

"So, the sea," he brought up again to distract himself from thinking of LuLu. "What part of it do you feed on? Is it just the water itself?"

Ever unwilling to relinquish a connection of touch once it was established, Ren did not break the handshake until he did. In the meantime, her fingers idly drifted in his grasp, exploring the interesting contours of his hands and the rough texture of his skin. Although it was difficult for her to feel, as all things were, she could tell it was different and it made the aurora want to touch and explore more.

Distracted as she was, she did not notice the way he pronounced her name so delicately, but the blush was given a warm smile and she moved closer to him, the frei’s free hand reaching out slowly (hesitantly should he pull away from her touch) for the other’s fins. Her wings lifted delicately one section at a time with her curiosity, ginger as a cat walking on a wire.

I eat...” the frei paused, looking up at the sky for a long moment before turning her gaze back to Sevilin, her rune giving a slow pulsing glow. “I eat water and moonlight,” she said, sure that it was true but not sure how it worked or how she knew. Feeding had been something that had simply happened for her, not something Ren had been taught to do or informed of how it worked. “Usually the water from the ocean, because I can eat when I move from Doucette’s to here. The taste is a bit strange though. It leaves a flavour in my mouth I do not enjoy.” Revontulet frowned slightly. She did not like speaking so much in one breath.
