Justu Name: Shugendo: Senken
Jutsu Type: Supplementary
Hand seals: None
Chakra Consumption: None
Jutsu Drawbacks: The user may be lost to the depths of their mind, never to return from their subconscious if they are unable to concentrate hard enough on the meditation.
Jutsu Description: Shugendo is the ancient art of meditation practiced by the Tengu Clan. Furthermore, each member of the clan has inherited five mental blocks from their ancestor Jirobo who used his own power to seal the Gogen of his brother. These five blocks are called the Senken. Each of these Senken block a part of a Tengu's mind from their hidden power. Each of the five heavenly eyes; Physical, Heavenly, Wisdom, Dharma, and Buddha are held at bay by these. Only though meditation can a Tengu fully inherit their full potential. To overcome all Senken is to be enlightened and enlightenment can only start through knowledge of the Gogen's true power. To begin, the user imagines themselves within their own mind. Using this vessel they traverse their subconscious and move through the Senken to find their inner self. The first scene the user encounters in their mind is a stone clad gate, the first Senken represents Ignorance. Only by resiting the names of the five Gogen may one proceed. As the gate slides open a single Gogen black swirl emerges from a bright light and engulfs the user. They then open their eyes, finding themselves falling down a void made of nothing but white and black swirls. This brings pain to the user, and to overcome this mental block is to overcome mental anguish. When the user moves on, the black swirls overcome their body and they find themselves in a black space. Though the sensation of falling is still present it is impossible to gauge your location because of the darkness. This feeling becomes overwhelming, this Senken bringing the user immense loneliness. This pain becomes hard to overcome as they then hallucinate the inhabitants of the world, appear as ghostly phantoms all around them. For the mind, this becomes hard bare. Just when the user is at a point where they can't take anymore they become submerged in a dark ocean. Though still dark the vessel is consumed by the cold water, the air being squeezed from their lungs, experience the pain of death as they continue to drown. With no bottom in sight the user just continues to sink as they dwell on every thought that could possibly come to mind. Only once they have come to terms with themselves and have let go of all mortal attachment do they find the bottom. The user emerges from the bottom of the endless dark ocean only to be encased in a warm, glowing dark void. At it's center is a burning blue flame, a fire whose nature is that of the user itself. It is the true self, the spirit that makes up every living being and is present at the core of all. This eternal world's soul is what connects all things and allows one who has fully achieved enlightenment to connect oneself with the selves of others. The final Senken is the world's soul itself. By overcoming all four Senken before it the user comes to terms with every other living being on the planet and the universe and finally becomes one with them all. Only by doing so does enlightenment reach them and they finally ensure their cycle of rebirth has come to an end. Becoming the master of Shugendo: Senken is the final ultimate goal of anyone who has the Gogen's true power.

Picture

Background: Long ago before the founding of the shinobi villages, during an era of endless wars between humans, the Shinju existed as a tree that was revered as a deity which bore a fruit once every thousand years. It was forbidden to consume the fruit, for it would bestow the consumer godlike powers. A single three footed bird, roughly twice as large as a human was the guardian of the tree and its fruit. It and it alone was aloud to sustain its life by consuming small portions of the fruit. This diet caused the bird to grow wise and tactful, and learned in the art of meditation. The tree was undisturbed for some time despite the fact that the humans below the tree were always locked in combat. Finally, after years of conflict a single women came to the tree to gain godlike powers in order to quell the worlds fighting. She tricked the bird into leaving the fruit unguarded by selling a false story about an army coming to eat the Shinju's fruit, this was so she could eat it herself. The women was Princess Kaguya, and in the birds absence she ate the fruit and obtained its power. Upon returning to the tree having found no army the bird noticed the fruit was gone and was outraged by the atrocity. It knew full well the consequences of the women's actions and vacated the tree. It cursed Princess Kaguya and her offspring for all eternity, vowing never to forgive them. The bird found a high peak some distance from the tree and tapped into some of the godlike powers the fruit had bestowed upon it. First it created a giant mountain, one that was protected by a barrier that would keep the worlds inhabitants from seeing or entering the sacred place. It was dubbed Mount Sumeru, and it would be the birthplace of a new race of people. Second the bird gave itself the name Sōjōbō, and in doing so its body took a golden humanoid appearance that could only be described as godlike. Finally the Sōjōbō gave life, using most of the chakra it possessed to create two beings, the first two Tengu created in his image. The two were twin brothers. Next Sōjōbō created a gift for the two, the Gogen meditation that would serve as their means of enlightenment giving them the ability to gain great knowledge and understanding. The two grew up as training partners as well as rivals, due to the mountains barrier the two lived in solitude without the knowledge of the outside world. Sōjōbō taught the two many things such as knowledge of the outside world and his dislike for the women Princess Kaguya. Creating the two brothers had left Sōjōbō weak and low on chakra, and its energy soon diminished and as it did it faded from the world leaving only the two inheritors of its teachings. The only request Sōjōbō left with the two was to never venture to the outside world for it was an evil place plagued with hatred.
The eldest of the twins known as Jirōbō followed the teachings of his “father” staying in the mountain that stretched above the clouds and continued his meditation. The second of the brothers, and younger of the two, was named Tarōbō. His curiosity got the best of him and he was tempted to leave his homeland to see what the outside world had to offer. As Tarōbō left the mountain a mystical barrier that shielded it from the outside worlds view deteriorated. The mountain, which stretched above the clouds, became visible by all being the tallest structure in the entire world. The younger of the two brothers was gone about one year after his departure. During the year of exposure to the outside world wars and pointless battles spread across the primitive ninja world. In this time of chaos a lone warrior, one who had trained in a similar fighting style to the tengu, appeared to quell the fighting. In the peak of the conflict a monster bearing one eye and ten tails began wreaking havoc on the primitive world. The warriors of the time had no means to defeat such a foe that seemed to be generations ahead of their time in terms of power. The sage that possessed an eye known as Rinnegan fought the beast in many battles as he was the last chance and strongest fighter in the pre shinobi world. The younger of the two brothers soon returned to find his home in ruins. There was not even a speck of debris to speak of. Confused Tarōbō waited to see if his older brother would return. As night drew near the area grew cold. It was dark, and when Tarōbō thought all hope was lost a giant sphere of light shone from beyond the clouds. He then knew where his mountain had gone, its fragments had been collected in the sky, but how he was unsure. That night the younger brother dreamed of trying to catch the sphere of rock in the sky. No matter how high he jumped he always fell back to earth. When he finally decided to quit the father of all tengu came to him in the dream, telling him of the great battle between Rinnegan and Juubi. Tarōbō awoke in a state of anger. It was ocular jutsu that destroyed his mountain and it was the power of a tailed demon which had surely killed his brother. With all of his fury the tengu awakened a new eye, an eye so evil all it could see was hate. He dubbed this power Gogen, for it showed him the truth of the world. Humanity was weak and he would be the one to cast judgment. Tarōbō left the tengu mountain in search of the wielder of Rinnegan. His journey took him to the four corners of the earth and over the four great seas but he could not find such a man. One day he heard a story, a story of two who possessed great power. Intrigued by the story the brother set out to find the two men. It had been one hundred years since his home was destroyed and Tarōbō hadn't aged a day. He only became stronger in his quest for vengeance. The tengu came to the place where the men were said to reside. Tarōbō came across an old man, cloaked in white, working in a field as he neared his destination. He told him of a sacred place, a place where no outsiders were aloud. Tarōbō did not heed the elders warning and pushed on drawing nearer to the summit of the mountain. He reached the top, and indeed he found two young men training. The two were curious of Tarōbō and introduced themselves as Senju and Uchiha, the younger of the two being Senju. When asking about the sage it was revealed that he was the mentor to the two warriors before him. In anger Tarōbō lashed out attacking the two at once. The older of the two known as Uchiha hastily rushed in but found himself blind as the power of Gogen looked down upon him. Senju was unaffected and he fought Tarōbō until the mountain began to shake. Worn out Senju collapsed asking for Tarōbō's forgiveness for it was not the two of them that had wronged him. The tengu was blinded by hate and the power of Gogen compelled him to the take the lives of the two warriors but as he raised his blade to Senju's neck another force similar to his own appeared pushing him back. Tarōbō turned to see the old man he had spoken to earlier. Dropping his hood the elder revealed to have a power of his own, it was also ocular like Gogen. It was called Senken for it brought the elder into an enlightened state of being. Tarōbō fought against the Senken but his own Gogen posed no contest to its mysterious power. When all hope was lost Tarōbō stood strong, he could not understand how Gogen could lose to Senken, he had always thought power would defeat wisdom. Before the elder cast off Tarōbō he revealed to him that even though he gained enlightenment, all other knowledge of his past life was gone including a sibling he once had. The elder weaved hand seals trapping Tarōbō in a seal that would keep Gogen at bay for one thousand years. The old man used his own name for the seal and promised that Senken would always look over Gogen in order to keep the balance of power. The elder used a magical paint brush to bestow the seal with his name, a name in which he wrote in kanji, Jirōbō.
The Gogen is the bloodline power of the legendary Tengu Clan. It is a sacred meditative power that lies deep with in each of the clans patrons. It is rumored to have the power to have absolute control over the Material and Spatial world through the meditation. Gogen means 5 heavenly eyes, and each "eye" has a different way it causes the mind to take in the world around it (explained below), as if the world is embodied within their mind for them to analyze and discern. The Gogen is different from every other kekkei genkai, known to the canon Naruto Universe, because it was not derived from the Sage of the Six Path and the Juubi. Instead, the ability to further discern one's soul was created, parallel to it the Sage's ability to use jutsu, by Sōjōbō the elder king of the Tengu race, as a way of preserving the clan. When a tengu draws on the power of the Gogen the users eyes transform to an eye with a white sclera and a black swirl, resembling a hypnotic spiral. The power of the first state known as the Physical Eye is very minuet for it is just the very start of the meditative cycle. The Gogen allows the user to mold and control chakra with slightly more ease as well as alert them of the influence of genjutsu giving them time to counter. This is made possible because a Tengu has greater control over their body by using the Gogen's meditation to reach the far corners of their mental and physical potential. This coupled with the physical abilities of the Tengu race results in far greater perception, speed, and power. Gogen's true potential is possessed and mastered by Hinote Shin. It's name is a reference to the 5 elements of Buddhism and self awareness. Further control over the meditation had brought about a change that began to shape the way Hinote views the world. When a being versed in the Gogen's meditation is confronted by outside interferences such as doujutsu or genjutsu, their mind blocks it off as it is accustom the pure state of being enlightened, the users ultimate goal. The meditation makes for a calm mind, and a calm mind can easily shift around such interferences. Furthermore, the Gogen can be more completely awakened through embracing ones faults and intense meditation, giving rise to a power with the potential to surpass any sage of ninja. The extensive meditation and emotional journey results in the user obtaining great insight into the world, using their enhanced understanding to perfect oneself. This has been dubbed the "True Gogen" by legend and word of mouth. The foundation of this new power comes about by awakening every one of the Gogen; Physical Eye, Heavenly Eye, Wisdom Eye, Dharma Eye, and the Buddha Eye. These powers are not actual eyes but that of the minds eye allowing the user to fully enlighten. With the release of each individual eye the user begins to use parts of the brain beyond the normal 10% active allowing for their body to gradually improve in many aspects.
Physical Eye: Scripture say the Physical Eye sees things that have form. The phrase physical does not refer to the regular eyes in our physical body. It is another, different eye, an eye that possesses perfect insight. Its mental prowess can grasp the existence of a physical form as well as things without physical form. The eye sees with an ungraspable range and remains perfect in all levels of mental deception. The Physical Eye may be the first of the five meditations but without the others it would be useless. The Tengu have spent generations pushing past it's boundaries to delve deeper into ones mind and find other levels of understanding. Once one can accept the physical world with the Physical Eye one can move from it and begin contemplating the self. Hinote has mastered the Physical eye and has been able to tap into it's benefits. It's meditation heightens his brains capacity to communicate with his body. This includes; faster reaction time, heightened physical ability, reduced chakra consumption, and hastened cognitive functions.
Heavenly Eye: Listed as the second eye, the Heavenly Eye another step towards enlightenment. With the Heavenly Eye your mind sees without obstruction and sees all truth. The users range of understanding is limited by the Physical Eye but with the Heavenly Eye their sight becomes an infinite spectrum. It allows for the user to mask themselves for ocular disturbances by utilizing meditation to close oneself off from unwanted disturbance. When coming in contact with ocular disturbances the Gogen spins around in a hypnotic fashion. In this state the users body releases all restraints on his mind allowing his consciousness to slip around the influence of genjutsu. This is used to cut off the users ability to be effected by techniques such as the Tsukuyomi as well as any other ocular genjutsu. The effect activates automatically to block the genjutsu and lifts when the genjutsu's presents is gone. With Hinote's ability to use the Heavenly Eye's meditation Hinote's mind is able to resist genjutsu and instinctively react to doujutsu.
Wisdom Eye: The Wisdom Eye is discerned to the one with Gogen through training and meditation. It is the a step to the full enlightenment of the Gogen and it is also the first step towards bliss rather than destruction. The power bestowed by Wisdom allows the user to see the world as empty, one entity that is made up of so many smaller pieces. With this eye the user can control any form of jutsu with more knowledge than was obtainable before as they are able to understand the parts that make it up more clearly. This allows for stronger and faster attacks as meditation of the mind leads to efficiency. With the Wisdom Eye he does not see any dharma, or hear, know or discern one. This stage of enlightenment allows the user to see what is not seen with any of the other eyes and unlocks the very roots of Spatial Release. The Wisdom Eye also discerns the characteristics of the world around the holder by analyzing everything as a separate entity made up of many smaller pieces. This allows for the Wisdom Eye to draw on subatomic particles in the world around it and convert attacks into Spatial Release jutsu. Hinote has tapped into the ability to use the Spatial Release through this meditation.
Dharma Eye: The Dharma Eye contemplates the common truth, which is also called the conventional, relative truth, or wonderful existence. One with the power of Wisdom becomes blinded by the truth of emptiness, one does not posses Dharma until they over come this obstacle. With this eye the user can see all emptiness as they should be, valuing the realms in which all beings of emptiness reside. If this eye is opened the entire extent of space is seen to be full of limitless knowledge. The mystical powers of the Dharma Eye is the application of all that is learned with the Wisdom Eye. With that knowledge in mind, the user brings together all learned from the previous eyes and can apply them at any given time. Only through meditation can one use the Dharma Eye to further bring understanding to the world and the people within it. With Hinote's understanding of the Dharma Eye comes his minds ability to feel out sentient beings. With this meditation he is able to sense out the souls of the people near him, as well as feel out people whom he has a deep connection with anywhere in the world.
Buddha Eye: The Buddha Eye is like a thousand suns, shining everywhere, illuminating the one substance underlying all diversity. It shines on different things, but underneath, they are all one substance. The Buddha Eye is the most perfect of the Five Eyes and can discern infinite infinity in an instant. It surpasses the other four because it is all four and more. With it one can discern the truth about all that exists in the universe. It is a state of Nirvana which gives the user the ability to achieve a form of supreme chakra control through a meditative mastery of mind and body. One who has meditated into the state of Buddha is rewarded with unrelenting endurance as well as increased dexterity which is brought about through a perfect intellect of ones bodies limits and allows them to push to those limits. With the power of Buddha, the user becomes much more than just a living being but a perfect incarnation of the world itself. One with the Buddha Eye realizes the truth of all existence and understands that the emptiness of the universe makes us all one entity.
