Name: Hijil
[He-jill]
Race: Shifter
Gender: Female
Base Traits:

Standoffish
Hijil is a warm, friendly person, but she fairly quiet and has a learned caution and reluctance to trust that gives her a perceived distance. She isn't likely to reveal much to strangers, and would rather avoid confrontation than seek it. She tends to be somewhat shy or aloof, at least at first.

Resolute
Once she sets her mind to something, Hijil will not be shaken. Her ideals mean a great deal to her, and- in her eyes- define her. Any threat to her ideals or her cause will be met head on by an immovable force. If something happens to something she believes it, whether its the loss of a person she cares deeply for or being forced to go against what she holds dear, she finds herself lost and adrift. But until then, and after she has restabilized herself, Hijil is a rock that others can depend on.

Rash
When defending what she cares about, Hijil does not always think or behave rationally. When something she cares about is in danger, she tends to leap before looking. Usually a reasonable and nonconfrontational person, she has been known to scold people she shouldn't and charge enemies recklessly.

Class: Bezerker

Personality:

Hijil is quite possibly one of the kindest and quietest people you will ever meet. Her large, powerful body holds a gentle soul, and she radiates goodwill and warmth. She is very protective of others, and will willingly shield others with her body. She likes to stand right in front of danger. Her sense of self preservation is pitiful- others come first.
Which makes it very strange that she has a reluctance to trust others. She doesn't reveal her personal life to strangers, and she stays away from encounters that look like they could turn violent- without someone besides herself to protect, she would rather not fight. She was like this before her exile, and exile has only made her more cautious.
Still, she is not antisocial- she likes people and is happy to listen to whatever they need to say. She just may not talk back.
What defines Hijil are her ideals. She has convictions and she stands by them to the end. There are people she cares about and concepts she holds close to her heart, and she refuses to let harm come to either. Threats to these convictions causes a reckless and often illogical response. She is not afraid to charge into battle to protect what she holds dear, with little regard for herself or her own safety.
She is resilient physically but not emotionally. A pounding rainstorm can be weathered, but if someone she cares about falls or something she believes in is no longer true it would devastate her. She takes her pain stoically, but it will take her a long time to build herself back up.
Hijil is, in short, a tough but gentle giant of a woman who stands up for what she believes in. That is her greatest strength and her greatest weakness.

Description:

Build: Hijil is large built. This doesn't mean just busty- she's built more like a quarterback than anything.
Hair: Very short and fuzzy on most of head, except the left side, where it is long enough to be braided into a single braid.
Expression: Neutral
Clothing:

Thin clothing- a bit worn. Not very high quality for a shifter, but in the Shifter style.
Clothes are much like Gerraden's in general style- sleeveless tunic and pants, but are in shifter-typical colors.

Accessories:

Large bracelets on both arms made from Shifter materials. Think Goron bracelet from Ocarina of Time for style.

Belt, Shifter style (so I guess a rope?), higher quality than most of her clothing.

Light boots (though I guess we wont see them in prentice) or leg braces (much like Nyiim's?)

History:

Hijil used to live with her mother in Ast. Life was fairly peaceful there, she had no problems with how others treated her, or with how she treated others.
Her mother was the main problem. She was very strict and had prejudices that were very unusual.
This was because Hijil's mother, Sara, was the child of two women and a donor male. They were not very good parents to her, and the friction between them became so bad that she had moved as far away from her home village of Neued as soon as she was able. She had vowed to not be like her mothers at all, and as such was not only a helicopter dragonfly parent, but very homo and xeno-phobic.
For a long time, Hijil just accepted this as normal and went on with her life. Resilient, her mother's odd ways did not affect her much. She was neither wandering troublemaker nor stationary and obedient child, but a mix of the two. There was little friction, initially, in her relationship with her mother, and her mother was even beginning to calm down.

And then Hijil, while out on an errand, had a chance encounter with a young Alkidike. They met and somehow, against all odds, they hit it off. Hijil had heard of Alkidikes and the gruesome stories, but she hadn't paid much attention. She treated the alkidike with kindness and got something of that nature in return.
A few more chance encounters happened, each one positive and each one strengthening the unusual friendship. It never occurred to Hijil that she would have to keep it a secret from her mother, but she did so without thinking about it.
Soon the encounters stopped being by chance. The two girls planned meetings, ate together, exchanged rough crafts, and began to trust each other deeply.
The friendship gradually grew into something a bit more than a friendship, then a bit further. It bordered on an awkward romance as the two girls grew older and started to have those sorts of feelings. A young romance- not incredibly passionate, but deep none the less.
It could have grown into more, but Sara witnessed one of their meetings.

Hijil came home to a raging thunderstorm of a mother.

How dare she be in a relationship! How dare she not tell her mother about this! How dare she be in a relationship with a girl! An ALKIDIKE no less! How could she do this to her own mother? To herself? To the memory of her father, who was, didn't you know, killed by those monster women?! Her mother shrieked and cursed at her- how dare she do this to her, the little hussy, hadn't she raised her right? And this was how she repayed her? Sleeping with... Oh gods, she hadn't slept with her, had she? Oh what had happened to her beautiful little quiet girl? When had she become this... this monster?!
She was evil. She was wrong.

For the first time ever in her life, Hijil did not know her own mother, who, in her hysterical wrath, tried to hit her. Hijil was a strong and sturdy girl. Her mother's hits did not do much damage.
But Hijil did not just want to sit there and take blow after blow- she wanted to stop the hitting and talk some sense into her mother. She wanted to try to resolve everything. She loved her mother.

She tried to fend her mother off. It would be easy. She only had to push her mother away and then hold her so that she couldnt move. Then she could try to calm her down. Then things would be allright.

Unfortunately, Hijil didn't really know her own strength. Her push to get her mother away from her was too hard. Sara was sent careening back, and her head hit the hut with a sickening crack.

Hijil's blood ran cold as her mother crumpled to the ground, lifeless in the silence.

She had just killed her own mother. Accident or no, she had just killed her own mother. Hijil panicked and ran as fast and as far as she could into the wilds of Jahuar before she realized that running would cement her status as an outlaw. By then, it was too late. She was a fugitive, with no home, with nothing to come back to.

She was far away from the only friend she had left, too far. And her last memory of their time together was bittersweet because of her mother.

She has been living, alone and sad, in the jungle ever since.

Her physical description sounds fine to me, though as a forwarning, there's only so much editing I can do to the prentice bases, so she won't look fully built until her second stage.

Why is Hijil so reluctant to trust and standoffish? You said that it started even before her exile, so what is it that makes her like this?

her backstory is something that is very sad and could shake anyone. How did Hijil cope with accidentally killing her mother? How did she change as a person afterward? Did she become less friendly, did she internalize her guilt and feel worhtless, etc?

Does she still live alone in the forests of Jauhar? Or has she settled close to another village? How does she meet people to interact with is she's so secluded from everyone else?

Does she ever go searching for her Alkidike friend? How does her friend react to not knowing what happened to Hijil? Or does she know?

Okay, thats fine! Crystal placement is up to you, btw.

I might have to edit her a bit. Basically, she's always been reluctant to be as open as some of the other characters people have in play. She won't spill out her hearts deepest secrets at the drop of a hat, for instance. She'd rather listen and comfort.
What with the shock in her backstory, its likely evolved into something more distant.
Any suggestions on how to make this more clear in the quest/whether I should make this more clear?

As of the beginning of her Rp career, she is going to be mostly in shock about the whole thing, just trying to get from day to day- the traumatic event of her mother's death happens fairly close to where her active storyline begins. Any lasting effects and major personality changes will be the subject of solos and such, and be effected by RP interactions.

She is caught between hiding from others and seeking them out. She is afraid to live near a settlement in case they try to hunt her down, so she probably is on the move, yet staying near the main travelling paths. I don't think she is going to settle down anywhere specific until later.

Sorry, Kan, this is top-secret plot stuff sweatdrop I can't tell you for... Reasons. PM if you really want to know, but it might be nicer to leave it a surprise.

Alright, that sounds pretty good to me and I don't think it needs much more explanation or clarity. I think just the way you RP her will make her standoffish-ness more clear.
