It had been a long time.
Narci landed in the soft grass of the meadow, breathing heavily...flying wasn't exactly what Flutters such as himself here known for. It had been years since he had been back to the Kawani lands, and he never fully understood, until this moment, how much he missed it. He never thought he would ever have a 'home' - and several years ago he had decided to leave this place and see the world out there had to offer.
Most of it was more of the same, and some of it was quite exotic. But either way, as the years passed, Narci found his thoughts always wandering back to the Kawani lands.
Perhaps it was simply because he was born there. Perhaps there was something more to it. Perhaps it was the wonderful ladies he had met over this time there.
Viola... Viola was sweet, pretty, naive. At the time, so was he. Well, naive at least. At that time, he honestly thought, that just maybe, he would be with her forever. Of course that wasn't the case, and he moved on. He wondered what had happened to her... that sweet naive girl, Viola.
Then there had been Itse. Sharp witted, sharp-tongued. It was a been a quick and intense romance - a sharp knife to a short love. He had no doubts she was doing just fine somewhere out there.
Then there was Aiyana. Perhaps the closest, since he was older and wiser, to chain his heart. Maybe that's why he pulled away and decided to leave. He found himself thinking of her the most often, specifically, if she was happy or not.
He wouldn't go as far as saying any of these mares were the reason he was back, however. He knew his wild heart could never be tamed, no matter how lovely and spirited the mare. But in his travels he had kept thinking back about the lands. How the looked; the way the magic seemed to pulse through the land. The was the grass and rocks felt under his hooves; the way the wind felt on his fragile wings, and the was the water tasted on his tongue.
He had enjoyed seeing the world, but as he let the the sun warm his back, he smiled and felt like he was actually, finally home.
He knew there would be some sweet berries in the summer grasses this time of year, and his mouth watered at the thought. He remembered were they would be the best, and headed that way. He had been flying so much, he certainly didn't mind the walk. He kept his eyes peeled for others, he was eager to get to know others. He wondered if he would run into any of his past lovers or friends, or perhaps he would start anew and make a whole mess of new friends this time. Maybe he would be a bit more discrete in his romances..
..of course, maybe not as well.

Summer was the best time for berries. Salubri was particularly fond of them...the best ones always hidden deep in the dark green grasses. The darker they were, the juicier, hidden by the harsh rays of the sun and left to ripen in the shade. It was heaven. Salubri knew a lot of fun tricks to find the best ones. In addition to digging in the deepest, greenest grasses; he knew where they were most plentiful, the best ones got picked over first. Therefore, to find the real hidden gems, you needed to go further out from the biggest crops and root around on the edges.
He knew he was being watched. And he knew he was wandering too far from his chaperone. But there was still a rebellious streak in this young stallion, and he liked testing the limits his mistresses would put on him. He wasn't really concerned, as he had no actual intention of leaving anyway. This was just some harmless fun, and an excuse to fatten himself up on these delicious blackberries.
As he rooted and pawed at the ground, he perhaps wandered even further than he meant to. By the time he looked up, his muzzle stained purplish blue form the sun-kissed berries he just uncovered in a particularly thick and verdant patch. Uh oh, had he gone too far? He didn't want to anger his chaperones. As he turned back to find them, a shine and glimmer in the sunlight caught his eye. There was another Soquili about; a flutter kind of like his father.
Salubri felt his heart sink a bit. He didn't often think about his family...he had been so long. But whenever he saw a flutter outside of the Flocklands, he always found himself wondering...was that him? Could it be, after all these seasons, that somehow they had found him and he wanted to take him back?
...
Would he ever want to go? That was a train of thought he didn't indulge in often; he had made a promise to the lovely Vanmoriel that he would never leave. He was still true; part of him knew that. He was treated well enough. The only sting was knowing he wouldn't be allowed to leave, even if he wanted to. But in the end, that still wasn't all that bad. He had a new family; a beautiful one at that. But still, if he could see them again...
...it was a moot point to even go down that train of thought. This Flutter wasn't his father. He would know that, he would remember. But still, there was some kind of familiarity about him. He shouldn't talk to him; talking to Outsiders by ones such of himself was strongly discouraged. But despite his reservations, "Hello," he said quietly at the passing stallion.

The little voice came from behind some bushes, and Narcissus raised an eyebrow. "Hello," he replied, stepping closer. Narcissus was was always rather good at making friends, but he wasn't expected a greeting this early. Not that he was complaining, of course, though he couldn't help but be a little disappointed when he saw a young stallion standing there instead of a pretty mare.
There was an eeriness about looking into the eyes of this stallion in front of him. I mean, really they didn't have that much in common - this stallion was blue and purple, with a green neck, purple wings, and strange, feathery hair. His eyes were gold, almost solid... but still - despite all that Narcissus got a sinking feeling like he was looking into some kind of fun house mirror.

From the expression on his face, Narcissus would have been able to tell that Salubri was experiencing the same sense of déjà vu. He spent a good several moments in awkward silence observing this gentleman - he was a flutter like he was, though his hair was long and silky, unlike his that was feathery in parts. He was colored very similarly to Vanmoriel and her mother, Vanya, if they had less white on them. But they have feathers on them that looked very much like the patterns on his wings... which, come to think of it, he had one feather eye on his wing, too.
"Do I know you...?" he hedged, looking him over and noting the same look they were giving each other.

"No, I don't think so," he said quickly, and with some certainty. This stallion was barely older than an awkward colt, so Narci had probably been out of the Kawani lands longer than he had been alive.
He was never 100% any of his flings had ended in children, but it was something that had passed his mind once or twice. It certainly wasn't impossible...his own best friends, Azure, had been "tied down" (in Narci's opinion) by the burden of foals. Ending their life of fun and freedom by going to live with some mountain herd and a pretty purple mare he had met and become infatuated with.
"Say, what is the name of your mother," he asked, before he had a chance to change his own mind.

He was awfully certain about that, but it made sense. He hadn't met many other Soquili besides his family when he was a foal, and well, even sense he left home and met Vanmoriel, he had been in the company of the Flock sisters and their males sense. He definitely wasn't one of the kept stallions.
Salubri's eye narrowed when he spoke about his mother. "Her name is Sirana," he said, his heart sinking a bit when he said her name. "And my father was Ansen," he added, taking a guess on where he may be going with this conversation. He hadn't spoken about his parents in months. "Why, do you know them?" he asked, hopeful.
He just... he just wanted to know if they were okay. At least, that's what he convinced himself of for the time being.

"Sirana..." he let the name roll around his mouth, listened to how it sounded coming off his own lips.
Sirana...Sirana....Sirana,,,, Narci let the name bounce around his mind, thinking back at every beautiful mares face he had ever met in the Kawani lands. No, no there had been many, but Sirana was definitely one he had never had the pleasure of meeting.
"No," he said, with a sense of certainty, or perhaps even a bit of relief. "No, I can't say that I do." He looked at the pained expression of the little colt, and felt a frown tug at the side of his mouth. "I'm sorry?" he gathered, not really knowing why he was apologizing but not liking how the sad colt's face made him feel.

There was still something in the air that was unsettling to Salubri. He pawed at the ground, letting his eyes wander over the delicate butterfly cuffs he wore. He knew flutter wings weren't very common in the Flock, and he wasn't born within it. He was obviously thinking along the same lines he was; could it be possible they were related? He wasn't his son, as this stallion so obviously thought. His father was Ansen, and he remembered him well. But he knew both his grandparents, too. At least on his father's side - they were Rohannon and Sevati and they loved each other dearly.
It didn't even occur to Salubri that this spry looking flutter could be old enough to be his great grandfather. Much less the reality: his great great grandfather. "My name is Salubri," he said quietly, still checking over his shoulders ever few moments to check to see is he was being watched. He didn't want to get scolded by his mistress, or worse: loose his privileges to go out with them.

"Narcissus," he answered, breathing a relieved breath. But he couldn't help to shake that.... feeling. Was he wrong? Did he have a family out there, somewhere, that he didn't even know about? He would have to investigate this certainly... perhaps he should try to find Azure. Was he still living up in the mountains with his feathered ladyfriend and his children? Was he happy, he wondered. He would be getting old by now, but of course.. so would he.
"Its nice to meet you," he ventured, noticing how he kept looking around furtively, like he would going to get in trouble any minute. Perhaps it was for the best... he didn't want to probe anymore into this Salubri's family history fearing he wouldn't like what he found. "I should be moving on..." he started, looking up into the sky.

The blue and purple flutter nodded, his feathered mane falling into his eyes. It was probably for the best. He should be checking in with his mistress very soon or suffer the consequences. "It was nice to meet you, Narcissus," he said, watching him take to the sky with a flutter of stained glass brilliance.
As he left, he had a feeling in the pit of his stomach..somewhere between uneasiness and homesickness. But he shouldn't dwell on it - he should be getting back to his real home now.
