Jaione tightened the rope straps around her arms, her chest, her waist, and turned her blue-violet eyes to the sky. She had almost forgotten what it was like to set out on an adventure, leaving the quaint home that she and Luke founded together. A shiver ran down her spine, making goosebumps prickle up on her arms. Would she ever come back to this home she'd come to call her own, or would a new destination call to them? The pack strapped to her was heavy with the weight of possessions and food, but it was nothing compared to the weightlessness of their encroaching freedom.

For years, she'd been a flighty little bird, hopping from place-to-place, as difficult to pin down as her own daughter had become. A smile pulled at the corners of her mouth, emphasizing the wear on her face, the creases near her eyes and lips that spoke of a life well lived. Adventure-loving as she once had been, there were few joys she knew better than her life at home, spending time with her mate and their two precious children, enjoying Vesna's company when the young woman had time enough to visit them. Her magical talents had waned without regular practice, leaving her with her control over electricity and little else to speak of, and her children had long-since grown up and moved away.

Now it's my turn... Adventure had been calling to her for far too long, voice growing louder and pressure growing stronger. It was no doubt that Luke had noticed the longing way she gazed at the distant mountains, the way she paced about their home, looking for something, anything to keep her mind off the world outside, yet failing at every turn. Jaione had hesitated to bring up the topic at first -- even she herself was starting to feel the effects of age on her body, and her mate had been an adult by the time she was born; she couldn't imagine him wanting to trek and forage the way that she ached to. Yet the deep, aching want never left her, only growing more aggressive until the day she couldn't stand it anymore, finally begging the question of whether or not they could escape the mundane life they'd adopted as parents, dive into the reckless adventuring days of their youth.

And here they were, strapping themselves up with anything they might need, the younger cattaur's fingertips quivering in anticipation. Her claws kneaded the ground as she glanced over her shoulder, filled with a youthful energy that she had nearly forgotten. "Are you almost done back there, grandpa?" she teased with a smile, glancing meaningfully at the sun, which had only just crested the far mountain peaks. "If you don't hurry up, we'll barely have left by the time the sun goes down!"

Within the house, Luke was taking a moment to indulge in sentimentality. He walked through the house, making sure that nothing of importance was being left behind. They were taking what they needed, their son would be holding onto anything special to them, and the rest had been sold for travel money. Besides, they wouldn't be traveling forever, right?

He had to admit to himself that while he was looking forward to an adventure, a change of pace, he had rather grown into a bit of a homebody. He liked having a cellar of food, and a sure roof, and a soft bed. It had been a long time since he had last wandered. Despite anything else though, his main concern was wondering if he could fully keep up with Jaione on this trek...

Ears perking, he snorted and shook his head. Speaking of which... "Keep your shirt on, ya whippersnapper!" he called back, feeling himself choke up a little as he turned from the empty rooms. It would be a while before he saw the kids again... The home he'd worked to keep. So many memories.... Oh, well. New memories laid ahead, and the kids weren't really kids anymore!

Heading outside, he adjusted his pack and grinned, "Actually, you don't really have to keep your shirt on~"

Electricity crackled through Jaione's whiskers, eyes falling shut at the pleasant sensation of the wind in her hair. A sigh passed her lips as she heard her mate's reply from inside, transforming into a soft chuckle when it hit the air. The feeling of wistfulness had hit her all of a sudden, leaving her breathless and damp-eyed as she looked over the forest that she'd come to recognize as her own yard. With a soft huff, she rubbed the tears from her eyes. This wasn't supposed to be a sad farewell, dammit, it was a happy one! Besides, there was no one saying that they were never going to come back. As a matter of fact, she'd wanted to establish her home as the home base all along, a place that they could always return to, even in the twilight of their lives.

The cattaur laughed again at the suggestion of her disrobing, and she padded back to her mate, giving him a quick kiss on the lips and a lingering one on the cheek. "Nah, I think that I'd rather stay warm, myself. You can never guess when a chill wind is gon'na pick up, right?" she replied, rechecking the ties on her backpack and doing the same with Luke's, lest they drop something essential on the road. Her tail swayed gently and she took a deep breath. "We'll be fine, won't we Luke?" she asked after a moment of hesitation, a youthful doubt springing into her mind and teasing her. "I mean, we haven't traveled in a while, but it's nothing we can't handle."

Luke sighed and shrugged. "It was worth a shot." He smiled warmly as Jaione checked over his gear. He was pretty certain he'd gotten it all tied together right. Secure enough to not suddenly slip of, but able to be removed fairly easily when one knew the trick to the knot.

Jaione's question made his brow rise in surprise, but then he smiled encouragingly again. "Of course we'll be fine. I'm sure that once we get moving, we'll feel like it was only yesterday that we were traveling. The land has had a lot of time to change since the kids were born." His grin grew and he playfully nudged at Jaione's shoulder. "Let's go see what happened while we were busy with those rascals, eh?" He laughed and shot off down the single path that led to the old house, and would lead to a another path to the crossroads. From there, they could go wherever Jaione felt was calling her.
