C&C

It once stood for Caroline & Carolynn. It wasn't ever an official brand name or anything of the such, but Mystery recalled many a time when her mother referred to the duo that was C&C. Certainly the child's mother hadn't skimped on the details. Caroline was a model, more experienced in the industry when Carolynn was still quite new. Laughs were had at the similarities of their names, they did a few shoots together. It wasn't anything overly glamorous, but sometimes the smallest moments in life meant the most.

At least that was the way Mystery seemed to view it, since her Mom and Dad's romance was very short, but it resulted in Miette, which was quite important in Mystery's humble opinion.

There had been recent mentions of C&C these days, especially after Caroline had contacted Wylde Photography inquiring about getting headshots of some models she represented. "From a model to a modeling agent," Carolynn had said in amusement on a few occasions.

Mystery had been given quite a few chores today, but the child was eager to help out. It wasn't everyday that you had Mom's old industry acquaintances showing up. It wasn't a typical get together either from what the child had heard. Apparently Caroline was bringing her daughter along to get a Classic appointment. With much vigor, the child was sweeping away all the stray cat hairs that Oasis left behind, scrubbing at the hardwood floors with all her might, and pulling out the mini-vacuum to clean the various vintage couches and cushions with care. Mom was doing her fair share as well.

Once everything was settled together, they both put on some cleaner clothing. Carolynn was about to go set up in the living room when the doorbell rang. "...oh... Mystery, would you be a dear and get the door? I want to put together the final touches." The Pinot Grigio wouldn't go get itself out of the fridge.

"Okie-diddle!" the girl said with a salute before trotting off to the front door. She was careful to not swing the door open too wide, since she didn't want to smash someone's nose in, especially on their appointment day!

"Hullofericerous!!!" With bright eyes, she gave the two at the door a glance up and down.

"Mom said I should show you to the living room! Follow me!" With a trip-trop the child began to lead the way.

"You're going to have fun, I promise," Caroline gushed as she scrunched Zia's curls and flipped her own freshly died blonde hair over her shoulder.

Zia's head was retreating between her shoulders as she slumped. She didn't realize what she was agreeing to when Caroline asked to spend the afternoon together. She was assuming lunch, and without her 'buffer', considering the last time she was in the same room as her mother she had Pascal to shove between the two of them and restrain too much interaction and bickering.

But now she was alone, in her territory, and she wasn't super pleased about it. In fact she looked visibly pained by Caroline's squeal of delight when she Mystery opened the door.

"Miette, baby, you are so grown up!" She exclaimed loudly in a joyous squawk Zia would've attributed to a worked up bird with a vocal cord disease. But she also didn't have time to languish in disgust and self pity before she was grabbed by the arm and dragged inside.

"Doesn't this place do like... pin ups and stuff?" She questioned. Even though she didn't need to question, she knew. She was fully aware and totally embarrassed of her mother's specific niche in her already-- in Zia's opinion-- not especially respectable industry. Her real question was why was a kid there.

Once everyone was inside, the child seemed to almost swivel on the ball of her foot and struck a pose just for Caroline and her daughter. With a wink, she mentioned "I prefer going by Mystery... but yes... I am a little taller than last time! Either I am taller or you are shorter!"

The lavendar-haired girl asked a question which was hard to miss, and soon enough Mystery was at her side and grabbing onto her hand.

"You are Zia, right? Wow, you are so beautimous*!! I love how curly your hair is! My hair is sooooo straight, and even when Mom curls it, it doesn't really hold!" With the heel of one of her hands, she patted the wide curl of her hair from the bottom. "I don't mind though! It still looks pretty cute... but not as gormageousisness* as your hair!"

With a big grin, she mentioned "I can't wait to see what Mom does with you! Hmmm... yeah... we do pin ups here.... and stuff!" With a giggle, she joined in with attempting to drag the younger adult in further into the house. The eleven year old was completely oblivious to the actual underlying question being asked.

As they made their way down the hallway, some classic 50s music began to play, and a voice called out "Hey everybody, the party is just about to begin!"

"Oh, I'm sorry, doll," Caroline gushed, "Mystery, you are going to be taller than me before I know it."

Zia rolled her eyes and ended up recoiling back closer to her mom to distance herself from Mystery. Those may have been compliments coming out of her mouth, but damned if she could understand them.

"Well, we just came to uh... to vis--" She ended up stumbling into a wall as Caroline walked forward to announce her glee in a loud yell of happiness. "To... visit..." Zia heaved her shoulders and sighed.

"There isn't a glass in my hand yet!" Was announced when Caroline stopped communicating in gooey noises and started speaking English and Zia sullenly followed, giving some serious side eye to Mystery as she spoke.

"This is my daughter. Zee, baby, get in here and say hi!"

"Hi," Zia's greeting was flat and listless as she raised one hand in greeting. If she had met Carolynn, it had to have been ages ago, but even Zia was unaware of the nasty custody dispute and estate settlement that had gone on in the background of her childhood. Her mom hadn't been in her life for large chunks, so her friends were even rarer. She just figured she was known as the scandal that tanked her mother's modeling career among that group anyway.

Caroline had nothing but good things to say about her daughter, though things regarding her father could get considerably vicious when she was drunk enough. "I was thinking that hair is going to be a project," Caroline mused. She was already scoping out the work that would have to be done before putting Zia in front of a camera.

Mystery seemed to beam the moment she was called by her nickname rather than her birth name. However, before she could really continue on further with the conversation of her height, Caroline had gone onward to address her lack of a beverage.

Which left this evening's client alone with the child.

"Ooooo... do you go by Z? Do you just use the letter, or do you actually spell it out? How do you spell that? I could have swore Mom said your name was Zia... That's funny how you shorten your name from a two syllable name to a one syllable nickname!" The girl let out a giggle before trotting ahead further.

Turning about the corner, they were soon enough in the pride of the house. The living room had record slip covers plastered against the wall, an older record player against one wall, a jukebox at the other. There was a stoney fireplace covered with all sorts of nicknacks and accessories for photo shoots. A couple prop martini glasses, some spare records and slips, and a few decorative glass vases. The hardwood floor was covered by a rather plush white fur rug. There were a couple couches away from the obvious display area, which was where Carolynn had set up.

She already had her own glass at hand and was ready to hand off another glass to her former partner in crime, Caroline. "Your girl is legal, right? She can have a drink or two too, right?"

Mystery was such a bundle of energy at times. She zipped through the room, past her mother towards the oddly placed refrigerator and pulled out her own miniature bottle of sparkling cider. She trotted back eagerly, glancing about the room.

"Mom... Mom! Has Caroline or Z seen the calendars before?" Her current target was quite obvious at the moment.

"It's Zia, my name is Zia," She muttered, trying not to sink into her shoulders in her discomfort as she looked around.

Caroline seemed more focused on the wine and observing how the studio had changed since she'd been around last time, but at the question of whether or not Zia was legal she turned and raised an eyebrow in thought. "I'm pretty sure..."

"Mom, I'm twenty-four years old," Zia seemed slightly offended it was even a question.

"Pffft, I know that," Caroline just laughed it off and sipped her wine. "I would love to see the calendars," She added.

Zia crossed her arms and looked out for a sofa she could slump against or a corner to hide in. She was too out of her element here and was anthing but confident.

"Z-ah... okay, got it!" the child squeaked before trotting off to find the calendars, her own mini-bottle of sparkling cider tucked under her arm.

Just before Zia managed to secure herself a place upon the nearby couch, Carolynn swept in with a hand extended towards her. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Zia... I look forward to working with you. Did you want a glass as well?" She rolled the glass she had in her other hand to cause the wine to swish about a bit.

With all the hardwood floors, it wasn't hard to hear the child's approach after she had located the mentioned calendars. It was almost like hearing a horse running about.

"Here you go, Caroline!!" The child practically shoved a calendar at the elder of the guest-pair, then proceeded towards Zia to do the same thing.

"Here you go, Z-ah!"
