Who: Lette and Zeke When: June 28th; 10am Where: Lab 305 Weather: Hazy, hot, and humid; your standard summer day!
Harrison had been handled and was well on his way by the time the next appointment was due. Zeke pulled the second manilla folder toward him - this one with a blue Post-It to jazz things up - and glanced at the name. Lette Smathers and 10 - 10:30 were written in the same neat script in the same black Sharpie as the folder that had been on top of it a short while before.
He glanced at his clock. 10:00A.M. glowed on a backlit purple screen in off-black digits and for the second time this morning the vet stood up to give himself a full body stretch. He had been sitting too long for his body's liking, even if he had been animated and moving while sitting, and now he had to walk the length of the lobby to get that weird pressed feeling out of his lower back, butt, and thighs. Despite the sensation, he had enjoyed sitting down, meeting, talking to, and instructing the first of the two new members of Lab's family. Now that Trox was gone, Zeke had to wonder what Lette Smathers had in store for him. He wasn't the sort of man who speculated on what people would be like - that took all the fun and surprise out of meeting them! - but he was sure that this woman would be just as nice as the other was. She wouldn't have been chosen otherwise!
As Zeke paced from one end of the Lab to the other, he paused here and there to glance out the Lab's tall front windows and eyeball the street. There was relatively little foot traffic today, but now and again a car would trundle down to who knows where. Each time one came down with its headlights pointed in the direction of the Lab's parking lot, he had to stop and crane his neck as far as he could to see if it pulled in. Disappointingly, none did. Then again, who was to say the Guardian in question was driving here? The bus stop was not too far a walk down the street after all, and walking or taking a bike was always an option if they lived close enough for that. Hell, why not a motorcycle?! He had to grin at his ghostly reflection, and Zeke shook his mohawked head before taking up step again. Even if Lette did not show up until ten-thirty or even a little later, at least he was working out a little of that energy from his time with Trox. Perhaps he wouldn't be too overzealous once the second case came out and the next show-and-tell began.

Motorcycle growling lithely as it made its ascent to the stately building referred to as the Lab, Lette once again slipped into contemplation about what this whole thing meant. Details about an awaiting “essence” and a title of Guardian had been thrown around, leaving her a little overwhelmed at such an opportunity. She never would have suspected her application into the Lab would have bore such an outcome, when it was originally sent in on a whim. How was it going to affect her life? Taking in strays off the streets and injured birds after a storm was one thing, but a sentient being? And what exactly was a Raevan anyway? She understood the basics, but still; too many questions and not enough answers.
Yet as she pulled into the parking lot and idled her rocket to a stop, the answers just a few steps away, she realized just how deep she may have sunk. Was she ready for this? She could always crank back up and drive away as if this never happened. But no, she was here, she had made a commitment, and she was curious. It was time to find out what this was all about.
Popping out the kickstand with her foot and swinging her leg over the ‘cycle, she slipped off while removing her helmet and shaking out her long, curly black hair before walking towards the building with her helmet under her arm. Within a few strides Lette had arrived at the door and swung it open to a blast of cold air, relishing in the relief from the heat and humidity outside.
“Sorry I’m late,” she called out as soon as she was through the door, “took a little bit to find this place and I had a slow start this morning!”
Silver eyes, shielded behind anti-reflective glasses that framed her face quite nicely, she took a moment to glance around the lobby. Soaking in her newfound settings, while adjusting to the change in light, she discovered what had to be the secretary, or quite possibly the man she was supposed to meet with, in the form of a somewhat tall, mohawked man with an assortment of different piercings. Striding towards him with her hand outstretched, she greeted him warmly with a smile on her face.
“Hi, my name’s Lette Smathers. Had an appointment here, I believe, for 10am? Are you Kyou?”

A few more passes and Zeke had felt he had done enough for both his back and his zealousness. He pivoted on his heels and started back toward the desk, contemplating another granola bar and perhaps a quick dash to the cafeteria for coffee. The morning was still young enough for a little extra to nosh on after all! Bypassing his desk, he reached for the door that led into the hallway, but stopped just as his fingers brushed the handle when the door behind him opened and the chime sung out. He pivoted on his heel again, and came face to face with a dark haired and bespectacled woman only a few inches shorter than himself. Immediately his welcoming smile lit up his features.
"No worries, you're right on time!"
Zeke crossed the distance between himself and the mystery woman so that they met in the center of the lobby. He took her hand in his own and gave it a firm shake, beaming when she confirmed her identity and laughing lightly when she asked him if he was Kyou.
"Nope! The name's Zeke Farris; I work here at the Lab and I'll be the one helping you get set up today!" He let Lette's hand go and his many bracelets jingled and clattered together as he gestured to his desk and the two chairs that were set up in front of it for guests. "If you want, we can get that whole shebang started right now in fact!"
The desk was a standard office desk, covered with the standard office things - desktop computer, a cup of pens, various papers, etc - but there were noticeable touches of the vibrant twenty-nine year old throughout, mostly in the form of shocks of color here, there, and almost everywhere. Pens, Post-it pads, wire boxes used to hold papers, his tiny clock, and a couple of photos in frames that to someone, somewhere might be construed as 'tacky'; Zeke had readily made his little nook in the lobby his own.

Taking a better look at the individual standing in front of her, Lette almost fancied herself over dressed. At the least she was under-colored. Dressed in dark skinny jeans topped with a white halter-top and a black leather jacket, Lette was a walking monochromatic character suddenly placed into a world that had discovered color TV sets. Smiling to herself, she felt herself become more comfortable with this guy named Zeke. She could have fun with this one, given the right music and a night on the town. But for now, she turned her attention back to the business on hand.
“Oops, sorry about that. Figured I would be meeting the doctor himself. It’s nice to meet you though, love the hair. Can’t bring myself to be too adventurous with mine, though I’ve thought about it once or twice. And sure, might as well get the ball moving, don’t see any reason to put it off!”
Walking a few steps over to an equally vibrant desk, she pulled out the chair in front of it and sat down with a light sigh. “So tell me more about what I’ve just gotten myself in to, Zeke. Do I get to sign some papers and wait nine months before the responsibility kicks?” Winking, she gave a slight laugh in an attempt to diffuse some of the anxiety she felt building in her chest.

While she looked him over, Zeke did the same back. She was another dark haired beauty like Vivi, although with no trace of a foreign accent. Her outfit's colors were a stark contrast to his own, reminding him of Anya and the Frei's own heavily black attire. Her vibe, however, was distinctly as un-Anya like as could be. Anya had that cool - bordering on cold - thing going on, this woman was more warm, and definitely more outgoing. He was already feeling that he'd like this one greatly, and that feeling only grew as she spoke.
"Well thanks!" He ran a hand over the tautly pulled side of his head, fingertips just gracing the base of his bi-colored mohawk and making the tips of it shudder. He grinned at her widely, a spark of mischief showing in his eyes. "Just thought about it? Aw c'mon, where's the fun in not taking a risk now and again, eh?" Zeke moved around the desk to his spot, plonking himself down with ease into his cushy seat and chuckling. "Then again, I guess you kind of already have, if you're here right now. So I guess I can give you a pass this time."
He flashed Lette a wink, giving a grin that was more than a touch playful, before his face shifted and a look of 'oh I'm a dumbass' came over him. Zeke shook his head and laughed lightly at himself, looking at Lette apologetically.
"Where are my manners today?" He grabbed the handle of the drawer to his right and pulled it open, stealing a glance inside before sighing wistfully. "Not in there, damn." He shut the drawer. "I should've offered you a drink when you came in. Would you like a bottle of water or coffee or anything? I know it's hot as hell out there and air conditioning can only do so much."
He had offered the same to Harrison when the older man had come in, so it was only fair. Besides, even still it was just polite and Zeke was no rude son of a b***h. A cold drink, a cool place to sit, and a nice chat was just the thing for a hazy day like today, especially with the topic (and questions, he was sure there would be questions!) to come. Speaking of questions, one had already been asked of him! He jumped on the answer, voice laced with some lighthearted teasing.
"Well...first, lemme welcome you to the Lab family!" He made a show of throwing his arms in the air and pretending to throw confetti - which he currently wished he had. Maybe he had walked a little energy out of him, but now that Guardian number two was here, it was as if his little jaunt around the lobby hadn't even happened. "Welcome! And congratulations, of course. It's not every day we get a new Guardian, especially a lovely lady like yourself." He winked again. "Second, there's definitely gonna be some papers to sign." He tapped the manilla folder sitting in between them on the desk with two fingers. "But nine months...Well, that all depends on a few factors, you being one of them." He had to beam, but he'd wait to crack open that particular safe until he saw how she took his little - albeit it correct - jib.

Laughing slightly as his jests, making note of his wink and smiles, Lette waved off his pokes while gesturing to the helmet she set on the floor. “I take a risk every time I hop on my baby outside, it fulfills my daredevil quota more often then not every time it revs up between my thighs,” returning his wink, she adjusted in her seat before continuing on. “But I may still someday color my hair, we’ll see. I’m content with what I’m working with for the moment. And thank you for the offer for water, but I’ll pass. Need to hurry back to the garage soon so I can help with the workload, Friday’s are one of our busiest days.”
Pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose, she contemplated just how much the workload may be growing as she was here. When she left yesterday they still had a 2 cars on the racks with another 3 scheduled to come in this morning, with more scattered throughout the day. Not to mention all the drop ins that demand to have oil changes on a moments notice. Sighing, the silver eyed female subconsciously played with her hair as she refocused on what Zeke was saying, chuckling at his warm welcome and compliments. “Paperwork seems to be a part of everyday life nowadays, can’t even fart in public without a permit it feels like. And no need to call me a lady, I probably have more grease under my fingernails then half of this city, but thanks. You’re not so bad on the eyes either, definitely someone who brightens up the room.” Winking again, she smiled to herself. This was turning in to a war of the winks.
“Factors?” She asked, brow knitting. “What exactly does this whole process entail?”

Zeke stood and leaned to see what Lette gestured at, and his eyes lit up at the sight of the helmet. He had an attraction to motorcycles and a boyish desire to one day have his own - something he shared with Brad no less - so the very idea that the woman sitting across from him had one instilled a pinch of envy in him. He had to wonder what color it was, what make and model, how fast it went, and - of course - where she got it and how much it had set her back. However, he knew he had to be a good boy and get Lette set up first, so Zeke bit his tongue and settled back into his seat again, eyes back on the dark-clad lady before him.
"Well if you ever color it, I can give you some good dye brands if you wanna go extreme." He gestured to his hair again. One of these days he was gonna strip the green and purple out of his hair and do something different. Something drastic, but something that still screamed 'Zeke'. It was something that he had put off for far too long now, but only because he barely had any free time to do such a time consuming thing. Two jobs and an inability to tell people 'no' would do that to a person's time.
"Well you might say you're not a lady, but you're the prettiest mechanic I've ever seen." He shrugged nonchalantly, words spoken plainly. The words 'garage' and 'grease' only added up to one result in regards to profession, but it was the truth. All the mechanics he'd ever been to were owned, operated, and staffed by men, with the only women around either being customers, wives or girlfriends of the mechanics, or perhaps a desk girl in one or two places.
"Thank you kindly," he grinned when she complimented him, "I get that a lot. That and the occasional mention that I'll end up blinding someone someday, but I see that as a challenge." He had to laugh, light and free but kept to indoor levels of volume. He would have to take some pride if he actually DID blind a person with all his colors and clashes, especially since he would thereby have an outfit to fight crime with. But until that happened, he'd just keep mixing and not quite matching until the desired result was achieved.
"Factors," Zeke repeated with a nod, reaching down to his left to grasp the handle of the metal suitcase and lift it onto the desk. He stood and remained standing, patting the clasps on either side of the black handle fondly. "Two of these factors are in this case here, and they'll be going home with you today." The case would be opened shortly but since she wanted an explanation, that would come first. It was time for Zeke to get his business on.
"Raevans aren't made like humans or animals, they're created here at the Lab. You're a Guardian, so that means you'll be taking care of a Raevan, which I'm sure you already know. However, in addition to that, you'll be helping us make your Raevan." He gave her a sly smile and a tilt of his bi-colored head, letting that soak in a bit. "Raevans are a product of Dr. Kyou's special brand of science and magic...But that's only one part of it. The other part is where you come in, which are these."
With a fluid, well practiced movement, Zeke had the case on its side, the clasps unlocked, and the top half opened. Inside the case was black padding on both interior sides, but inside that protective layer on the half revealed to Lette were two items. One was noticeably larger than its mate, a bulbous glass orb with a conical metal doodad stuck on top. Between the orb and the metal piece - looking almost caught beneath the handle - was a swath of brown cloth, colored with yellow-ish designs along its hem. The second item was a long, thin vial plugged with a cork stopper. Inside, the vial was filled half way with white, glittery, coarse granules. Together in the case they didn't look wholly remarkable, but Zeke was already abuzz with excitement, bouncing on his toes as he looked between the two items and the woman they now belonged to.
"This is your Soul Glass and your Essence vial, Lette. These will be the keys in making your future Raevan!"

Smiling at his energy and deciding she liked his laugh, Lette giggled along with him as he proposed his challenge and thanked him for his offer. Maybe one day he would achieve that level of bright extremes, and she would love to be there to witness it. Maybe they each would achieve their own personal appearance desires at the same time.
Quickly however, the conversation started to turn to the business aspects of what this whole meeting was about, what Lette had been waiting for. Leaning in as he brought out a small metal suitcase and set it on the desk, the buxom brunette hung on to his every word.
As the case opened and revealed its contents, Lette felt herself subconsciously feel how to breathe. It wasn’t a grand tada, there wasn’t an epic music sound track playing in the background or fireworks in the sky. But what was waiting inside was the makings of an individual, a sentient being, a Raevan. While she might not yet know what the agents did separately just yet, or how they came together to create something new entirely, they were hers.
Reaching out tentatively to brush the vial and bulb-like jar, she hesitated and looked towards the mohawked man with a barrage of questions flying off her tongue, “Science and magic you say? That’s somewhat of a first. Is it okay if I touch the “Soul Glass” and “Essence Vial”? What exactly are they? What do they do? How does this all create a Raevan?”

A laugh erupted from Zeke the moment the questions started flying. It carried, echoed, and bounced off the walls, filling the whole room - and probably the hallway - with the sound. Zeke tried in vain to stifle himself, but those occurrences were rare even at the best of times, and he just couldn't stop himself now.
When the raver regained his composure - which was still riddled with chuckling and little guffaws - he wiped his eye and readied himself for the whole shebang to come. Lette was asking for a lot of information and he had more than what she was seeking to give.
"You can touch them all you want! In fact you can take them both out of the case; they're yours after all." His grin lit up his face entirely and his eyes were now a light, warm caramel color. He waited a moment for her to take the two items out in turn, then removed the case from the tabletop. Inwardly Zeke did 'eeny meeny miney mo' to choose which of the two items to focus on first. The Essence won. "That little vial you have there is the Fel Essence. Yours in particular," he opened her file to find the given name of the granules, "is called Fertilizing Salt. Now...If you know anything about salt, you know that you typically shouldn't put it anywhere near any sort of plant ever, right? The damage salt can do to a field is where the term 'salting the land' comes from and it doesn't mean anything nice."
Zeke reached out across the table and gently prodded the vial with his index finger. Some of the grains on the top of the pile shifted slightly, but they did nothing else besides look like regular old table salt inside a small tube. "Fel Essences are enigmas; things that shouldn't exist in nature but do anyway. There's many of them out there, but they're insanely rare. Now, this is wholly a guess on my part, but given the name, I think if you sprinkled a pinch of that stuff over a plant, you'd see your tomato or rose get healthier and grow better, rather than wither away like they usually would."
He leaned back in his seat though his feet continued to tap against the floor with his pent up excitement. Zeke let that sink in and then gestured to the Soul Glass.
"That big, heavy thing you have there is what's called a Soul Glass. Its job is to catch the soul of a thing - be it plant, animal, or mineral - so it can be used in combination with the Fel Essence to make a Raevan. See that cloth between the metal bit on top and the glass bulb on the bottom? That's not just a decoration, it helps the bottle in picking a soul." He paused and took a breath, everything up until that point coming out in an exhale of a flurry. "Souls have colors, believe it or not. So like...something red will have a red soul, while something blue will have a blue soul."
The cloth on her bottle was brown and inlaid with yellow, maybe even gold, designs. Zeke wasn't sure the designs mattered much, but the colors sure as sugar did. Lette's bottle would accept brown things, brown and yellow or gold things, and maybe even strictly yellow or gold things. It was a curious color combination in Zeke's eyes. Many of the bottles he had seen off had been given cloths with vibrant or striking colors. Brown was hardly a bad color and it wasn't like Lette would be hurting for soul choices with that either! Many things were brown; cats, dogs, horses, reptiles...
He stopped himself before going off track more than he already had. He still had questions to answer and could easily segue into her last one. Gesturing to each item in turn Zeke then put his hands together to pantomime the two things merging.
"Once you have a soul, you'll bring both of these things back here. Dr. Kyou will put them into a special machine and your Raevan will be created from the soul, the Essence, and that magic-science blend I mentioned before. It'll take time of course, but the end result will be a Raevan, like mine here."
He pulled his phone out, unlocked it, and went into digging out a photo of Anastacia. When he found a suitable one - the spider queen in the photo looking as unhappy as ever to be the focus of the camera on her Guardian's phone - Zeke slid it across the desk so Lette could see one of the beings she'll be taking care of in due time. As she did, the veterinarian puffed with pride.
"Her name is Anastacia. She's one of a large handful of Raevans out in the world right now and with those two things you have there, eventually you're going to have another addition to our little family just like her."

Lette reached for the vials at the raver’s prompt, surprised at the weight of the Soul Glass, as Zeke called it, when it filled her palm. Shifting the vial in her other hand, watching the kernels of salt tumble from end to end in her investigation, the mechanic’s brow furrowed as she listened to every word that was coming out of her informants mouth. “So you’re telling me that this vial of Fertilizing Salt has the ability to directly effect the growth of any plants it comes into contact with? And this…Soul Glass is a container that will capture the spirit of something, brown or yellow related in my case, and together with the Salt will create a Raevan? The thought and process sounds fascinating, but why not focus the attention on replicating this enigma? I feel like something of this magnitude would hit it big in the horticulturist market.”
Leaning forward, the mechanic reached out and grasped the phone as it slid across the desk and peered into the screen to see what looked like a stately woman with purple hair and a spider attached to her head. She seemed to have a crass expression on her face and. Wait. Was that really a spider on her head? Eyes widening, the brunette wondered if the jewelry on the Raevan’s forehead was even jewelry or not. How odd. “Soo, I’m guessing the soul of your little girlie is something spider related? And I imagine that my future Raevan will take after whatever I choose as its soul, appearance-wise? She’s quite beautiful though, even though she doesn't look too happy that you’re taking her photo.”
Passing the phone back to the man, Lette leaned backwards and reached up to massage her neck with one hand as she played with her Raevan-making goodies in her lap. Reflecting on what she had just said, she sat up quickly as the pieces of what the man had just said fell into place in her mind. “Wait a damn minute. Are you saying…we have to kill whatever it is that we want to form the soul of our Raevan? Or does it sort of feed off of it?” Suddenly she found her mouth drying out at the thought. She had never thought she would have to take a life to make a life, though the thought made sense in a way. Nevertheless, she was one of those people who would practically wreck her car to avoid the random daredevil squirrels that dashed out into the road, yet alone inflict direct harm on a creature herself. Thinking about it in that moment practically teared her up right there. Pinching the bridge of her nose, she wondered subconsciously if she would have the ability to handle the task that was laid in front of her.

"That would be my guess, yeah." Zeke nodded, but took the stapled forms out of their folder to give proof of what he continued with. "All I know is the name of the Essences, really, not what they do. There's never a description in the file, though I'm sure Dr. Kyou keeps a notation in his own records."
Zeke put the papers back, nodding again as Lette went over what he had said about what each tool did. When she questioned him however, he stopped and had to sit back and think of an answer for that one. In the end, he could only shrug.
"I'm gonna assume it's because Essences can't be replicated more than anything. See, Fel Essences are one of a kind per thing. So lemme give you an example..." He trailed off, sucking his lip ring as he thought over the Essences he had given out in the past. "Okay, I got one. My friend Anita has a Frei named Cruz. His Essence is called Forceful Mistletoe, which is mistletoe that forces people to kiss when they get anywhere close to it and each other. Out of all the mistletoe in the world, the one that made Cruz is the only one like it out there. It was the only one changed by this big storm that happened hundreds of thousands of years ago." Zeke shifted his posture, putting one elbow on the desk, leaning in toward Lette, and gesturing with his free hand. "I don't know why there's only one per thing out there, but as far as replication goes, I'm sure the doctor has tried that in the past. So out of all the salt found in the world, your vial full there is the only salt capable of fertilizing out there - minus whatever amount Dr. Kyou used to test its abilities."
He flashed another smile at his companion, which only faltered when she slid his phone back to him. Dr. Kyou couldn't replicate Fel Essences but there was an Essence out there that could replicate itself - Anya's.
"Actually, hold on a second. Scratch some of what I just said. Dr. Kyou can't replicate Essences and there's only one of each kind of Essence out there, but there is - er, was - an Essence that could replicate itself." He gestured to the phone. Anya's picture was still on the screen. "My Raevan's Essence was called the Self-Replicating Virus. Instead of needing cells to reproduce, the virus she's partially made from reproduced asexually." He chuckled a little. "I guess that's the exception to the rule." But then again Anya was an exception to a LOT of rules, so it fit rather well.
"Her soul's a black widow. You can't see it in the photo but she's got a red hourglass on her back." He put his phone away, beaming at the comment about his Raevan's beauty. She was a striking one to behold; even now she was still the oldest-looking Frei and definitely still the one with the largest wing span at her age. She was sharp featured and prim, taking pride in the beauty she knew she had. "And yeah...She's not a fan of me taking her photo, at any rate. I can't help it though; she's a good reference for future Guardians and she's my daughter, so what kind of dad would I be if I didn't keep photos of my kid, eh?"
The vet chuckled again as his words spilled out. The sound faded in time for Lette to have her outburst, which turned Zeke's expression from jovial and proud to more than a little sheepish. Rubbing the back of his neck as he did when flustered, he gave an affirmative.
"Yeah that's how it works. If you capture the soul of a plant, the plant will wither and die. An animal will pass away once it's soul is captured. A rock or gem will more than likely crumble to dust." He gave a small smile. This was the most uncomfortable part of the job, even if most people took it in stride. There were more than a few who weren't all that happy upon hearing it, but even in the face of that horrible truth, those people still left with Soul Glass and Fel Essence in hand. Usually they returned with news of unintentional captures. "It's not ideal, I understand, but that's how it happens. This is me softening the blow a little, but most people who become Guardians like to consider it giving the captured thing a second chance at life." Judging by the look on Lette's face, however, Zeke wasn't sure if she would agree.

Leaning forward, setting her elbows on her knees, Lette propped her chin on her palm while she stared into the items that would shape her future ward, listening as Zeke delved into the more scientific explanations of what they all meant. However, though her interest was piquing over the explanation of the various other Fel Essences, on top of her own, it still did nothing to unclench the furrow in her brow as she contemplated how she would come to claim a soul.
The raver had mentioned that a rock, plant, or gem could be used, though something about that sat wrong with her as well. She was sure other Raevans had been born of one of the earlier elements, but the thought of having something with the soul of a rock was somewhat absurd to her, and kind of amusing too. The thought continued to build up in her mind and soon she found herself laughing out loud, probably throwing off the brightly colored man in her throes.
“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to come off rude. It’s just a lot to take in right now. You’ve made some very good points though, and some day I would love to hear more about your girl’s soul capture and her Essence – there seems to be a story behind it that I think would be more riveting then you let on.” As she talked she leaned forward, giggling quietly at her mechanic pun – man she was a loser, and reached around the desk, pulling the brief case that had originally housed the glassware towards her. “No worries though, I’m definitely not about to leave this opportunity behind. I just think I’ll need to ponder over all the details a bit more before making the decision on which soul to claim. And I’m allowed to take this case, right? At least I’m assuming I can.”
As she loaded up the case with its precious items, she paused. “Wait, so how does the Soul Glass claim its victims, err, tributes?” Pushing her glasses further up the bridge of her nose, her gut shifted at the thought that had pushed itself to the top of her consciousness. “If I were to choose an animal, would I have to…y’know…kill it by hand? Or does it steal souls like a secret thief? How long does it take? I have twin Siamese cats at home and a Beagle that are brown-esque and I wouldn’t want them to accidentally be…killed for this. Do I maybe utter a secret word, like scream “SHAZAM”, and then it just does its thing?”
There were so many aspects to this arrangement she had never thought she would have to engage in, that wasn’t on the website. A part of her laughed to herself as she thought of how her application had been submitted. How ironic would it be if Sammy’s soul accidentally filled her Glass as he had accidentally submitted her application that night? Dear lord, she hoped whoever was up there didn’t have such a sick sense of humor.

Zeke shook his head and held both of his hands out to Lette, palms up and long fingers splayed. There was no rudeness stemming from the mechanic in his opinion and he wasn't about to let her think that she was being something she most certainly wasn't. Curiosity in regards to the Lab was a good thing. He'd haven been more concerned if she just took up the bottles once received and left without another word.
"When we're not all business like right now, I'll be happy to tell you more about Anya. Her capture's one for the books, lemme tell you." He grinned toothily even as he purposely left out Anya's Essence in that statement. If he did talk about the whole of his Frei, that aspect would certainly have to be more business than casual. When Lette took the case, Zeke pushed it closer to her. "If you need it, go right ahead. We have plenty of spares."
He sat back once Lette had the case, once more nodding to her words as she spoke of waiting and thinking over her decision.
"That's not a bad thing to do. We have quite a few people who sit back and take awhile to decide how they want to proceed. Picking a soul generally isn't a snap decision, people want to consider. Though saying that, that's a good way for me to bridge into the next thing I should mention." He gave a small smile before pointing at the Soul Glass as Lette closed them off in the metal briefcase. With the mention of pets, he really had to make this stick. "When you say 'secret thief', you're not all that far from the truth. A lot of Raevans are the product of unintentional or accidental captures. This pretty much means, if anything - and I mean anything - that matches the cloth on the bottle's color comes into contact with it, it's soul will get sucked into the bottle. There's no secret word, you don't have to kill anything yourself, it just does what it was made to do. Since you have pets, it'd be best to keep the bottle some place out of reach or just keep it inside the case. That will keep it from doing it's thing."
Zeke cocked his head as Lette started laughing. That was perplexing, but that was probably the better reaction to all this information he was piling on her with a bulldozer rather than a shovel. He chuckled along with her, unable to stop himself from laughing when others were, and gently pushed her file toward her with a pen on top.
"I don't mean to seem like I'm rushing you, but before we get too carried away with questions, I better make sure you sign these. They're just your standard legal release forms and all that jazz, nothin' to worry about." As he reclined in his chair again for a brief moment, the vet ran a hand idly over the side of his head while watching Lette. Her questions were definitely good ones, especially to be asked by a new Guardian just getting thrown into the fray. Her disposition was particularly sunny, which he quite liked by default, and her concern for everything going on and soon to go on was just an added cherry atop a sundae. It was easy to like the woman and so far she was proving to be just as capable as the rest of the Guardian's before her. She was already in Zeke's good books and it seemed Kyou had picked another winner once again.

So this Soul Glass was almost a sort of tripwire of sorts. Anything that would come into contact with it, and fit the designated requirements, was quick to seal its fate within the bottle. She would have to be very careful with this around her pets and make sure to keep it out of their way. “Thank you for letting me have the case and being so patient with all my questions, you’ve been awesome. And no worries, you’re not rushing me at all!” She reached across the table to grab the file and pen, flipping open the cover and signing the appropriate areas after she read through their meanings.
“So is there anything else I should know before I start this journey? I guess we can always save the how they eat, sleep, etcera questions for after I’ve finished this or my kid’s been…created, but I can’t think of anything else to ask right now.” Lifting up her hand, she held it out in front of her as she flicked out her fingers in time with what she said. “So let me just reiterate everything to make sure we’re on the same page. First thing is that I need to figure out what sort of soul I want to form the foundation of my Raevan. Then I need to capture it by putting the glass to it, in which it’ll just suck it right up? After that, I’ll bring this case back to you, I’m assuming, and you’ll give it to Dr. Kyou who will do his magical scientific stuff and, voila, a new Raevan will be created. Though there’s no set time for all this happen on either end, I Just need to make up my mind and go from there, right? Feel free to let me know if I’m missing something, I want to do this right. I’ll only be getting one chance at this and don’t want to mess it up.”
Smiling at the man in front of her, she felt a warm flutter deep in her bowels. She was doing this - she was actually doing this. When this was all said and done she would have her own charge to look after, someone to call her own, shaping them, and growing them into a, hopefully, upstanding individual. The thought brought her unexpected joy, an answer to the question she had been asking herself: what am I doing with my life now? Creating a Raevan and taking care of it, that’s what. Smiling even brighter, she clutched the case protectively and couldn’t wait to begin.

"Hey no sweat; I'm always happy to answer the questions that are thrown my way!" He beamed happily at the woman across from him, letting her do her thing while giving himself a seated stretch. His lower back popped pleasantly and the pull from lifting his arms over his head was just what this doctor ordered.
"If you want me to explain feeding and stuff right now I can totally do that for you." It would be a good idea to get that out of the way. While Lette wouldn't have to worry about feeding and that ilk for a while now, it would be good for her to prepare or consider what sort of things she could be getting into from the Essence-side of things. "If not, that's fine. I'll be giving you my email and phone number before you leave so you'll be free to call anytime if you happen to have any questions."
His phone was almost always on. It would be set to silent or vibrate during his full time job's hours but if he ever did get a call or text, Zeke was always very prompt. This was especially so for Lab members, new or old. Any questions or concerns, or if they just needed him to lend a hand with something, the vet would be there.
"You don't need to put the glass up to the thing you're capturing. Just the general vicinity seems to work, but yes, you've got it down pat." He nodded once more and tapped his own fingers as he went over everything she had just repeated. She seemed to have a good grasp on it! "There's no set time for you to capture your soul. If we don't see or hear from you in a few months, we won't come knocking. Life happens, and the Soul Glass is a one time only thing so everyone here understands if you want to think on it awhile. The only thing we ask is that you call ahead when you've captured a soul, that way an appointment can be made. It'll more than likely be me taking back your bottle and vial and I've got a full time job as well as this one, so you can understand why you'll have to be penciled in."
The vet took back the forms from Lette and went over them to make sure they were all squared away. After signing his own name at the bottom, Zeke shut the cover and put it off to the side. With that now tucked away, his hands fell from the desktop to a drawer on his right. Zeke pulled it open and went searching through it, pulling out a stapled sheet of paper. He highlighted a couple things on there and passed it to Lette.
"This is that contact info I mentioned. The highlighted names, numbers, and all that are Lab's staff members and our Raevans. If you need any of us, you're free to call, text, or send an email at any time." Zeke slid the drawer shut with a click of metal on metal. As he righted himself in his chair, the vet sucked on his lip ring, trying to see if he missed anything he needed to cover. While he knew he could send the mechanic an email if anything was missed, Zeke was the sort who wanted everything he needed to cover covered before Lette left for home. He had given her the tools of the trade, answered her questions - and was still willing to answer more if she needed him to - had her sign the forms, given her the contact sheet...No, it seemed like everything had been taken care of!
"I'm pretty sure I've covered all of the need-to-know stuff for right now. Unless you have any more questions I think you should be all set, Lette!"
