I'm not even going to try to explain being... gone.

But, very long story short, I don't live in Texas any more! Yaaaaaay! I live in San Francisco and now work as a programmer and I am never going back to that horrible state that thinks triple-digit temperatures are perfectly normal. I'm quite happy here with my newfound utter lack of seasons.

I have yet to experience an earthquake. I have no doubt that I am going to freak out when I do. But that's okay, because I get to laugh at my coworkers who think that a light drizzle is a rainstorm. We all have things we're not used to.

And here I was imagining you among the crowd cheering on Wendy Davis. Huh.

Though if you're looking for awesome climes, you're two states too far south. There's little I adore more about any location that the weather in Seattle.

Oh, I was cheering on Wendy Davis... from my comfy chair about 2,000 miles away. I had it streaming in a background tab all day, got to see it all the way to midnight and still went to bed at a sensible time. I love time zones.

It was so awesome though. Oh my gosh. I hope she runs for governor, or at least lieutenant governor because David Dewhurst needs to be gone. Preferably impeached; I really hope someone finds out that he altered the time records and... I do not like that man.

And then the next morning, most of San Francisco was busy celebrating the deaths of DOMA and Prop 8. I love this state. So very much. I'm sure most of Texas was all "Bah, we have a constitutional amendment against gay marriage!" while California was overwhelmingly joyful. Or, you know, at least this part of California. Even my church was happy about the decision--and I go to a Catholic church!

As for weather... it hasn't hit the 80s once. It doesn't drop below the 50s in winter. It pretty much never rains. Hurricanes don't come here (I spent most of my life in hurricane zone). Other than the earthquakes, which aren't really weather, this place is perfect. Except for the fog. I was living in Marin County for a little while and had to commute across the Golden Gate Bridge, and it was like driving through soup every morning. Shut that down quick enough and moved into the city.

I am absurdly excited to change over my residence and voter registration. I want a not-Texas drivers' license, dangit! Still have the accent though, and that's sadly not going anywhere quick. Though I had one girl tell me my accent was "cute". It was awkward.

Yeah, I was considering the fact that Cali had the most to gain from the two supreme court cases.
Just didn't think one of my favorite people would be there instead of in the state that was fighting for women's rights. Sounds like it would've been a blast either way.

Now that I think about it, I could have gone to the supreme court if I was less lazy..... Tch. Would've been fun.

And while I do appreciate the benefits of moderate temperature, you speak as though a lack of rain is a good thing. Rain is the best weather of all. Hell, (I was just speaking to an interesting person on the topic) the planet that symbolizes beauty is always under a constant storm of (acidic) rain that evaporates long before it hits the ground.

I did enjoy it there, though. Nice place. Strict rules about losing your ticket on the trains.
Got my favorite "Uniformity is boring" shirt there.
Still needs to rain more.

I think this XKCD What-If? sums up Venus quite nicely: "Venus is a terrible place".

Also, if I could have been at the Supreme Court for that ruling... But unfortunately, I am an entire continent's width (literally, I'm about a mile east of being on an entirely different continental plate) away from DC.

XKCD has a what if page?
Fu-
Still doesn't change the rain on the most badass planet in the solar system.

And if you bother me beforehand, I could tape the goings on in DC for ya.

Oh yes. That page ate a day away from me when I discovered it.

Anyway, C-SPAN usually carries everything DC gets up to, but it doesn't compare to being there.

Yes, yes, this shall cause some loss of time for me as well.

"What would happen if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90% the speed of light?"
The amount of force necessary to pitch a baseball at 90% of the speed of light would obliterate the baseball and the pitcher's hand, whereupon the massive amount of wind resistance would further destroy the poor ball. The massive amount of pressure exerted on the air would probably kill everything nearby.
I find it difficult to believe that it would cause a nuclear explosion, though.

Even if you don't know how it managed to get launched that fast, it's necessary to appreciate the fact that the force necessary to accelerate the ball in the time of a pitch would've destroyed it long before the air did.

San Francisco!

Weird story, saw my first ever squirrel in the Japanese tea Garden there and proceeded to flip out getting photos.

It's been agesss Tabi! Been enjoying the new life of programming? It's quite a bit different from biology (or wait... was it ecology?) and the military XD

Excited for the 50th Dr Who special?

Quite different! But good-different. It was conservation biology, which is basically ecology. But then the military said "Yeah, uh, you need peripheral vision, and since you have visual field loss on the left side... no go!", I lost my scholarships, things went mad, I ended up in California. Been a heck of a weird journey.

And oh my gosh, that special is going to be fantastic. I cannot wait! Well, I mean, I can in a literal sense, but I certainly don't want to!

Divine, would you like to trade with Lambo? Lambo from Seattle and wants to move to warmer temperatures.

@Miss: :'D Congrats on the job as a programmer/moving to Cali!

Div, all of the images in What If also have mouseovers. The first few weeks have boring ones, but then.....

As for the 50th, it's fun and frustrating at the same time to hear (and make up some) theories about who the new guy is.

Oh, and if you want rain, you can have some. The year's been so wet lately that the weather is aptly described as a monsoon. Seriously, I think it's heavily rained nearly every day in the last two weeks for at least ten minutes a day

Naww.

I've got various family that I can't be in the vicinity of for extended periods of time who live in Seattle. If I actually went up there it'd be a war zone in three months.

My one problem with the 50th is that I don't have cable. I get all my TV-watching needs from Hulu, but they don't carry BBC America. This means that I'm going to have to resort to... rather less legal methods of watching that episode.
