Who: Cesc, Revontulet, Shepard, Vivi, Doe
Where: Whirlwind Amusement Park, Gambino
When: Evening, after dinner, with the sun setting
Weather: Hot, but the ocean's got a breeze rollin' in.

"I'm telling you, you're going to regret wearing that by the end of the night," said Shepard, tilting his head toward Vivi as they stood at the entrance of the amusement park, his hands in his jeans pockets. People walked in all around, handing tickets to ushers and turning in the turnstiles, young couples waiting for romantic ferris-wheel rides and up-late kids ready to explore the glory of an amusement park in the evening. The ferris wheel was lit up, the roller coaster still shrieking strong, and the music from various booths mixing into a delightful discord.

Shepard Ryan leaned against a candy-striped amusement park sign and looked at his companion. He wore a plain blue-grey tee that seemed to be trying its hardest to make his eyes the same color, and some dingy sneakers happy to tread on the mess of popcorn and gunk that lined the amusement park's pathways.

Cesc, beside him, was looking all around for the two women for whom they waited, but took a moment to peer at Vivi's state of dress. Certainly, she looked nicer than the both of them -- a flowing red shirt with studs at the shoulders over tiny tailored white shorts that showed off the length of her legs. She also wore red-and-white polka-dotted patent-leather flats, which she more than once offered to Shepard as proof of her dressing appropriately for the evening. Rhedefre, in his plain white and black raglan baseball tee, could not wholly agree.

"You look wonderful," he said with a faint smile."But I fear for the state of those shorts by the end of the night."

Vivi shrugged with a laugh. "Oh, quiet, both of you. My dry cleaner, he needs the work!"

As usual, the redhead was running late.

Cursing her inability to make and keep plans in any sort of timely manner, she tried to convince herself that fashionably late was a thing and that since they were going to a carnival obviously the three would start having fun without them if they got tired of waiting for her. It was just...well...what did one wear to an amusement park anyway?

Suddenly her closet had seemed woefully under stocked and Revontulet had watched outfit after outfit get help up in front of the mirror before being tossed onto the bed in a messy heap. What was the point of hanging up the clothes if they were just going to find themselves relocated, crumpled and rejected, elsewhere?

Every so often Doucette would turn to Ren and ask her opinion, hope shining in her eyes and a timid but excited smile on her lips. Each time the aurora replied that this or that looked “Nice,” and somehow this always snuffed the happiness from the Irish woman’s expression and sent her hunting around again. Apparently ‘nice’ meant something different when it was directly related to clothes, or something of that nature.

Really, Revontulet did not understand the process at all.

But finally the two were dashing into view – well, one was dashing and the other drifted, fully unwilling to make herself look so out of sorts upon arrival. Granted, Doucette and her hair always looked fairly out of sorts so the jaunt did little to ruin the look she’d chosen: a robin’s egg blue dress offset both her eyes and matched her raevan. It had wide straps no one would call sleeves and was cut in a heart-shaped bust to accentuate her figure. Although the front was plain, falling in a loose pleat to mid thigh to show off her legs (which were neither as shapely or as long as Vivi’s but were still nothing to scoff at), the back was where it got interesting. Mostly open but with a delicate bow holding the dress together, the redhead had fallen in love instantly. Paired with a simple duo of comfortable cowboy boots and a small silver necklace and she felt complete.

The only major downside to the dress was that, with the open back, one of her tattoos was visible, something she usually ensured she dressed to keep covered. A half-blown dandelion inked black rested on her shoulder blade, small and neat. A few of the seed puffs were drifting away, caught in the wind, and the three furthest from the flower itself had transformed into small black silhouettes of birds in flight. In neat, elegant script, ‘I wish’ finished off the motif.

I’m so sorry we’re late! I hope we didn’t keep you long!” Doucette beamed brightly between the three of them before turning to say something to Ren, only to realize she was lagging behind. “Come on Revontulet!” she called, exasperated with the girl’s calculated speed.

The aurora neither charged nor dawdled in her approach. The way her ribbon swayed below her suggested that when she had hips they’d sashay when she walked - for certainly she’d not been gifted with the curvaceous figure to undulate in her movements. Upon her approach Ren lifted a hand a brushed her hair back from her face, tucking it behind one ear as she smiled at Cesc, her attention fully his to command. She remembered Vivi and Shepard well, but had not gotten to know them before – they were Doucette’s and he was hers.

Hello,” she said with a little flutter of her wings. “I’m Revontulet.” Although the frei knew he’d remember her name (how could he not?) she wanted to introduce herself, annunciate that funny little ‘tu’ in her name and make it her own. Since she had not spoken last time, she wanted to make up for it this time.

Vivi's face brightened as she saw the duo approaching, and Shepard looked up and uncrossed his arms. The two girls were lovely opposites of one another, flaming red curls paired with both electric and sedate blues. It was a cute picture, one floating along and the other bounding forward -- it reminded Shepard of video games when one character has to ferry another, with absolutely no control over their pace.

Rhedefre's smile grew as the duo approached, and he smiled and put his hand out to Doucette as she arrived first. He had the notion that the two did not get off on the right foot, and he was hoping to remedy this.

"Doucette," he said warmly, pressing her hand. "You look very beautiful."

But then his attention was pulled away, as Revontulet approached him closely and spoke, drawing a look of pleased surprise from the stag.

"Buenas tardes, Revontulet, said the frei in his own pleasant voice, dipping his head slightly in a bow. "A pleasure to see you again."

There was little time for Doe to react, as instantly Vivi was upon her, hugging her and exclaiming in all manners of French about the beauty and color of her chosen dress. Shepard stayed in the background, but in a lull -- a short one -- of Vivi's speech, he pressed forward with a 'heya,' and then let the girls speak again. He held up one finger -- be right back -- and stepped toward the ticket counter.

"Cheri, you look marvelous," Vivi closed her string of compliments, now allowing Doe a word in edgewise. "How have you and your darling sweet one been? She is such a striking beauty."

A blush spread across Doucette’s features at Cesc’s compliment but she accepted it in stride and returned the handshake. What a polite thing Vivi had raised! Certainly they had not gotten off on the wrong foot before, simply been on unfortunate ends of conversations. Already she was looking forward to the evening and the stories they could all exchange amongst themselves. “Rhedefre, or did you say you preferred Cesc? You are such a gentleman, thank you so much.

Doucette did not need to look behind her to know Revon had finally caught up and captured the stag’s attention so instead she got herself lost in Vivi’s arms, enveloping the woman in her own and laughing despite herself. Hugs always made her feel joyous and giddy when they were exchanged in such a manner and the happy noise simply could not be contained. Once Shepard slipped forward she reached out and gave his arm a little squeeze, seeing his was in a hurry to grab the tickets and not wishing to detain him with such feminine frivolities.

Never as marvellous as you Vivi, where did you get those shoes? They are precious!” Doe’s eyes practically shone as she spoke, accentuated not only by the dress but also by the weight of the world being lifted from her shoulders over the last few weeks. Liam’s absence had the redhead much returned to her original demeanour and Revontulet’s well behaved demeanour was nothing but a bonus as far as she was concerned. “She does nothing but watch film noir every day!” the redhead said with fake exasperation, throwing her hands in the air and rolling her eyes, “You would think there is no one else in the world but Cary Grant and Jean Harlow.

The strange words from the pink frei had the aurora tilting her head in bemused interest, ignoring the teasing remarks from her guardian. Cesc spoke a language she had never heard before and she was confused about how he commanded it. Perhaps even she too could say such things? “The pleasure is mine,” she said instead, her voice soft and feminine but somewhat husky at the same time, imitated from the glamorous Hollywood women Ren watched in her movies.

I have never heard of a place like this. What do you do here?” Revon asked curiously, drifting closer to Cesc and reaching a hand out, fingers but a breath away from his own hand but paused, questioning.

Cesc closed the distance between his and Revontulet's hands, quite gently, allowing the frei a chance to pull away if she did not mean to lock hands with him. He was pleased all the same, as he remembered holding hands with her for the entire evening as a newborn, her slender fingers and palms never much heating in his grasp. There was something ... alien about Revontulet that Rhedefre could not perfectly place. She was different than others he had met, both familiar and distant, comforting but cool. Her voice was the same as the rest of her. Beautiful, with a sense of something far away.

"Here?" And there was his own voice, to his own ears a foreigner's voice, practiced and lilting but with effort instead of ease. "This is an amusement park. There are games and rides -- many things to amuse. Have you been on rides of any kind?" He lifted his arm in an up-and-down swooping motion to imitate a roller coaster, making a faint wooshing sound. Behind him, beyond the gates, the real thing could be heard, wind whistling and delighted screams echoing.

"Oh, these shoes? A beautiful shop on the row, and for quite cheap!" said Vivi cheerily, linking her arm with Doe's. Shepard returned, counting out the tickets and handing them round.

"Hey, there, Ren," he said to the Raevan with a nod and a faint grin. He was not surprised to see the hand-holding or the arm-linking going on -- everyone seemed to be more physically inclined than he was, and the Aussie had simply begun to accept that fact.

"And this one's for you," he said to Doucette, holding out the ticket and then pulling it back at the last second when she went to take it. The man grinned and gave her the ticket after, a simple and silly gesture to make sure she knew that all was well. "Let's go in?"

"Indeed!" said Vivi, heading forward and through the gates. The amusement park seemed to absolutely blossom around them, lights and music clashing and butting for dominance. Smells darted through the air, salty and sweet and oily all mixing together into one unhealthy (but somewhat appetizing) haze. "Is there anything you'd like to do first?"

At the other’s hand slipping into her own the frei’s expression relaxed somewhat, comforted by the touch to bring a warm smile to those coral lips. With the motions from his free hand and the whooshing noise in the background, Revon felt very glad she’d decided to wear her hair up in a loose updo. Although it had not been the hairstyle she’d wanted, Doucette had complained that she hadn’t the foggiest idea how to go about preparing Ren’s hair for anything more complex that what she was now sporting and so the frei’d accepted it begrudgingly.

No,” she said after a contemplative moment, the slightest furrow showing between her brows as the girl thought, “I have never heard of it.” For just a moment a slight frown graced her features, but Shepard distracted her with a greeting and she turned her head to look at him, greeting him with another sweet smile. “Ah, Shepard,” Ren said, the name easy and almost a sigh on her tongue, the ‘sh’ sound elongated to a fast ‘e’ as the other letters fell away lazily.

As Vivi linked arms with Doe, she in turn pulled the woman closer, conspiring over shoes like teenagers. Those red curls were given a go as she nodded vigorously, mentally hoping she’d remember the information for later so she could see if the shop had anything else worth grabbing.

Hey!” she squeaked, as Shep offered the ticket and pulled it away from her again, bringing up memories of elementary school and naughty little boys of the like. Doucette wrinkled a freckled nose at him, slightly more freckled thanks to the summer sun, before finally retrieving her ticket from him when she decided he’d not pull it from her grasp once more. “Oh, I want to do everything, how could I pick something to do first?” Doe said with a dreamy tone. It had been so long since she’d come to something like this! The last time she’d tried to have fun it had been when her and Shepard went to the zoo...and that had been simply ages ago...

Upon Vivi’s steering the group of them through the gates Ren hung back, waiting for the three of them to move forward before following. She felt out of her element in such a place and was not willing to accidentally become leader of the pack.

Vivi watched as Revontulet hung back, smiling broadly at the frei and giving her a wink as she lead the trio of humans ahead of the freis. While she knew that Ren was young, quite young, Vivi could not help feeling that she would rather like for the frei to get better acquainted with Rhedefre. It seemed only proper when she thought of the two vials, clinking against each other in Doe's living room so long ago, pink glow reaching for rolling greens. And here they were now, hand in hand again, Rhede's warm eyes watching Ren's cool pale face with every evidence of pleasure.

Shepard, for his part, seemed to miss this. He was busy orienting himself and the group. He enjoyed amusement parks, for all their overpriced silliness.

"Games this way," he said to Doucette, nudging her with one arm and gesturing in one direction. "Rides that way. Or does Doe want a caramel apple first?"

He grinned, remembering suddenly how she'd yanked his arm in the hopes of seeing monkeys the time they went to the zoo together, eager to see everything in spite of the bum ankle she'd had at the time. Bum ankle -- it was just after they'd captured Cesc's soul, then, wow. The span of time suddenly seemed to reveal itself to Shepard, and he raised his eyebrows at the thought.

Was it strange to think that Doe seemed happier then? Or maybe it wasn't happiness...

Vivi tilted her head in consideration, breaking into his thoughts. "Oh! I do wish to ride The Thriller tonight, but the line is terrible! Perhaps we shall do something else first and then go?"

Rhedefre took his time floating after them, allowing Revontulet to take in the sights of the carnival around them. They walked by a gilded carousel, with painted ponies rising and falling, children and couples laughing and gripping white-and-gold striped poles. There was a beauty, and old-world charm to the carousel, and to the ferris wheel just beyond it. That looked just like Revontulet, like it was clothed in stars, reaching up to the night sky in its slow and deliberate arc. The roller coaster, fast and spreading screams, dashed by beside the ferris wheel and its languid pace.

"Do you see anything you like?" said Cesc, watching as a colorfully-clothed man on stilts walked past them, waving cheerily. His face was painted in a broad looping black smile and large clown's eyes, and he waggled his fingers at them in greeting before loping away. A gaggle of school-age children followed him with their phones out for pictures, laughing and eating funnel cakes, powder clinging to their cheeks. "We can do anything that strikes you."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 15, 2013 11:13 am

Doucette wrinkled her nose and nudged Shepard back before reaching out and looping her arm into his, wilfully trapping herself between her two favourite people. “Actually,” she confessed, “I’m more of a candy apple kind of person.” Caramel had just never appealed to her, personally. Something about the sticky, golden beige dessert topping made her mouth feel tacky just on the thought of it and the taste had never made her mouth water the way other sweets had.

Big, red candy apples, on the other hand, had that hard, deliciously sweet coating on the outside that she could lick at like a lollipop until finally chipping away at the exterior and inevitably getting the sticky red stuff all over her nose in the process.

Indeed, the zoo had been an interesting time in her life. Had she been happier at that moment? Truly it was hard to say. The atmosphere had been different then. Liam hadn’t arrived, but neither had Ren. Trying to think back to a time before the aurora seemed like a futile venture, for the delicate frei had brought meaning back into the redhead’s life. Her new job, even, had been due to the inevitable arrival of Revontulet.

The Thriller?” Doe answered, paling only slightly, possibly even unnoticeably in the carnival’s lights. God that was so Vivi! “Do you think it will become busier later though? Or!” she said with sudden thought, hoping she sounded somewhat excited, “We could wait for it now and then even have time to ride it again later.

The redhead shrugged her shoulders slightly as if it mattered not one way or the other. If it was the French woman’s favourite thing, surely she would like to ride it as many times as possible tonight?

Doucette made a mental note not to eat anything before hand.

Revontulet pressed in close to Cesc as they followed behind their guardians, her shoulder leaning into his gently and the wind picking up the wispy locks of hair that were left loose to frame her features. “What is your favourite?” the aurora asked as she peered about, her interest captured in many different ways and directions though she struggled not to show it overly much.

As the clown passed them and reached towards them for a wave she frowned slightly and squeezed at the stag’s hand, disliking the way the painting on his face made him look. It was not so much that she was afraid of his approach but that she distrusted such a person as him.

The sharp scream of the roller coaster as it hit its first hill distracted her suddenly though and she was filled with an enthusiasm that made her wings dance upon her back. “We can do that one?” she asked, attempting to control the way her voice pitched eagerly.

Doe looked over her shoulder to see what had captured Ren's interest and suppressed a groan when she saw it was the Thriller. Of course.

"Candy apples?" Shep said with a raise of his brow, shaking his head slowly at her, as though disappointed. Himself, he loved caramel apples -- the tart taste of the green apples mixed with the gooey sugary crust, regardless of how messy it was. Hell, most delicious food got you a little messy. "Caramel, Doe, caramel."

"You may split the difference and have one of each," said Vivi magnanimously, squeezing Doe's forearm as she linked arms with her and Shepard. In regards to Doe's question about the Thriller, she thought momentarily, turning to look at the line. It did not seem too terrible a wait, all told, although part of her thought it might have cleared out a little later in the evening, when the contingents of children went home.

Behind the trio, Cesc was letting go of Revontulet's hand just long enough to thread his arm around her shoulder and give her a reassuring half-hug, rubbing her opposite arm in an expression of comfort. He looked up at the roller coaster as she did, the rows of people wobbling as they got off, and broke into a smile. She may have looked delicate, but he had the notion that Revontulet was not so fragile as her appearance would have others believe.

"Certainly we can," said the stag.

"Oh! Are you both interested as well, then? Come, come!" said Vivi, her expression brightening. She walked toward the line, pulling Doe and Shepard with her, although the man gave an unseen look of concern to Doucette as she did so.

The line moved almost instantly as they entered it, as a new group of passengers were ushered into their seats.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 11, 2013 8:43 pm

Doucette made a ‘tsk’ing noise at Shepard with a little wrinkle of her freckled nose. It was all well and good that he was a fan of caramel but he would not be pushing his golden hopes and dreams on her! At least Vivi would let her get the candy apple no matter which side her loyalties lay upon.

That would most certainly have to wait until after the roller coaster though. And probably even a while after that. Growing up, Doe had never been the biggest fan of roller coasters, though she tolerated them well enough the rare times she ended up at an amusement park with a group of friends who probably became kamikaze knowing their dare-devil desires. Now-a-days though, there was something about coasters which just threw her inner ear out of whack and just made the red head feel a bit queasy afterwards.

Even as they entered the line the woman was looking a little green under the gills, but she smiled with bravado at the two all the same. It wasn’t like she would actually throw up or anything.

Usually.

It looks exciting,” the frei breathed, staring upwards as they drew closer to the Thriller and it began to truly tower over them. How steep was that first hill anyway? Not that it mattered but Ren’s rune already had the odd feeling that it wasn’t going to sit just right on the way down.

With Cesc’s arm tucked over the frei’s shoulders and the clowns well off in another part of the grounds, Revontulet couldn’t help but smile with a feeling of content. Even Doucette looked happy despite the strange tint to that pale skin.

I wish I could stay in this place forever.” The girl’s tone was somewhat wistful, but not in terms of a longing to run away. Rather, Ren wished this sort of place was somewhere she could easily retreat to, every night if so desired. It had an easy feel to it but it was also very up-tempo. Surely anyone could find any kind of atmosphere here that they desired.

"Is that one of each per person, or one each, period?" asked Shepard, his expression full of mock graveness and thought. "Because I don't know if I agree with either, Caramel Appelites are pretty unyielding..."

"Unlike the caramel itself, I suppose!" answered Vivi with a laugh. "The Shepard will just have to, as you say, 'deal' with it. Our lovely Doucette, she will have what she wants and not a morsel more."

Shepard snorted at that, and looked as though he might be about to rejoin when he dropped his eyes to Doe. The teasing expression vanished in an instant, and he nudged her softly with his elbow.

"You gonna be okay?"

Meanwhile, Cesc was smiling a soft smile at Revontulet's reactions, the glow of the carnival lights seeming to love her skin and hair. She looked well in the light, and even better with her expression of comfort and dreamy cheer.

"It is exciting," said Rhedefre, his voice low. "At least, I hope you will enjoy it. It's a different sensation than anything I can explain."

His eyes trailed over to Doe as he noted Shepard's concern. There was a paleness beneath her eyes, and it dawned on the stag that Doucette might explain the sensation of riding a roller coaster as 'nausea'.

"I think perhaps your guardian does not share that wish of yours," he said, nodding toward Doe.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 03, 2014 8:23 pm

Vivi and Shepard's teasing brought a bright laugh from the woman despite the butterflies fluttering about unhappily in her stomach. It was so lovely to be with the both of them, even if they were about to take her up what she would have happily called a nightmare on wheels. “I shall have only the one," the woman announced clearly, though her tone was playful.“I must watch my womanly figure you know."

As Shepard looked down at her she fashioned him a wink before giving him a kind of hand-in-the-cookie-jar expression at his question. “Oh, yes, I will be fine. Roller coasters just aren't really my thing. I quite enjoy the other rides, like the ferris wheel and the merry go round. What a wimp, eh?" Doucette snorted lightly and shook her head at herself, but there was a smile on her lips all the same.

The roller coaster was daunting, but it wasn't the worst thing that could happen to her, right? Doe looked up at the coaster as they approached, the shadow of the beast crossing over her eyes like an omen.

I'm sure it will be enjoyable," Revon replied, turning her head so her gaze could be directed at the stag openly. Her cheeks had the slightest of rose blushes upon them, befitting of her moon-pale skin. “Will I be able to ride with you?" she questioned, somewhat hesitantly.

If he wished to ride with Vivi or Shep she would acquiesce to that decision and ride with Doucette, but the frei had not missed the discoloring of her guardian and the words that floated to her ears from the group. It was obvious the woman wasn't entirely interested in going, and it diminished Ren's interest in the ride as well.

I think...Doucette does not enjoy such things," the newborn ventured, her words unsteady as she said them, like a baby fawn wobbling through its first steps. She felt sure that her guardian was not the adventure loving dare-devil type, but as a young one she did not actually know the depths of the redheads likes and dislikes. It was certainly something that she could add to her list of things she knew about the woman.

Shepard's eyebrows went up as Doucette actually admitted her distaste for roller coasters. Immediately, he turned in place, craning his neck to look for other attractions. "We don't have to get on this one. We can do a kiddy ride."

"Ah, is it that it makes your stomach flip?" asked Vivi, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. She did not look for other rides, but moved forward as their own line moved. Doe, she believed, was more than capable of making her own decision. "If you would rather go with the Shepard, or wait? But the others, they seem rather set on this one, I think..."

Cesc looked up at the roller coaster and then back down at Revontulet, one of his ears still trained on the guardians' words. He smiled boyishly at Ren as she spoke, gently squeezing her shoulder in a display of easy affection. She was smooth but her skin was not pliable -- not like Zurine's, or Vivi's. Strangely, Cesc thought, she felt more like Iorek than any other Raevan he could place. "Of course we can ride together. I want to be able to see how you like it, after all."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 05, 2014 5:42 pm

At Shepard's suggestion that they ride the kiddy rides Doucette's eyes hardened, though her mouth smiled through it. "No, no! I'm fine. Totally. Fine." If she'd been a dog her tail would likely have been tucked between her legs despite her ears being perked. The woman certainly did not wish to be left out by any means, but the ride really did make her stomach wobble at the thought and she was sure it wouldn't get any better on the ride itself.

Straightening her spine, the redhead looked back at Ren, smiling at the sight of the aurora looking between the coaster and Cesc, completely engaged with a warm, happy expression on her lips. The girl had been so quiet for so long, Doe treasured every word her frei spoke now.

At the squeeze upon her shoulder the aurora's wings gave a little flutter, her rune pulsing lightly at the touch. Although her skin wasn't over pliable for others, the added pressure meant a great deal to the newborn, who always seemed to struggle to find textures and touches she could wholly experience through the thick skin. Thankfully the skin wasn't entirely firm, so it wasn't like hugging a statue. "I think I will make some funny faces," Revon said with a soft laugh, watching the people stagger from the exit line and reenact one hill or turn in their post-coaster glow.

"How shall we ride then?" Doucette wasn't sure what would be worse: riding with Vivi or Shep or having to ride by herself. On the one hand having a companion would be a comfort. On the other, riding with someone certainly opened her up to embarrassing teasing.

Reminding herself of Shepard's comment, Doe gave a little squeeze around Vivi's waist. "I say we leave the silly man in his own car. Or perhaps he secretly wishes to ride the kiddy rides?" A playful wink followed her words in the direction of the Aussie, cheshire grin upon her lips.

"Making funny faces is part of the enjoyment," said Cesc with a faint smile. As the line moved and the pair hovered close now to the front of it, they could see a booth beside the exit. It was covered in pictures taken of people during one of the ride's many drops, their faces crumpled in fear, lit in joy, or stretched in screams. Every emotion, from exhilaration to nausea, was documented there. The stag gestured to it, his smile growing. "You can even see what kind of face there, if you like."

"Oh, the Shepard, his knees would hit his face if he sat on the kiddy rides, do you not think?" laughed Vivi, the look on her face similar to a contented cat's. She seemed to take great pleasure in imagining the tall Aussie's form folded up into a tiny child's seat on one of the carnival's many children's rides, his face stony with displeasure. "He would look like the caveman."

"I would look like the guy who's sitting behind his scaredy-cat kid," amended Shepard. "Or in this case, his scaredy-cat friend." He nudged Doe with his elbow.

"Then it is settled, you can sit behind by your lonesome," purred Vivi. "Enjoy it!"

"Sitting behind you pint-sized bits? Hell, it'll feel like I have the front seat."
