Kallan enjoyed the stillness of the woods. How was it that when one first entered the woods the rustle of the smaller animals and other such activities could fill their ears? But now as he wandered further and further the stillness was settling in around him. Every rustle of the grass was natural to him, he could even name the animal making such noises. Each one had a different sound to him by now. It was as natural as his own breathing. Yet…there was one part of the woods which still despite all his time hunting here haunted him.

Haunted, what a funny word. Kallan rubbed his arms to suppress the shiver of paranoia. Why did he have to wander into that tavern again? Wrinkling his nose he shook his head. No! There was no need for him to focus so much on stupid stories of ghosts and stalkers. It didn’t matter if others avoided this part of the woods, they were just too afraid of the dangers out here. The natural dangers that was not the paranormal ones because such ideas were folly after all. So why did he still have to fight the urge to jump in surprise whenever an odd sound sounded near him? Cursing the centaur clutched tighter to his hunting knife before leaning down to check a trap. So far nothing.

Maybe it would just be a silent day in the woods after all.

Sitting quietly next to a large pond, a lone female had her eyes closed and listened. The water would tell her... The tiniest splash... There! Her hand whipped out, a small spear shooting forward into the water. The end of the spear twitched as the fish it had stabbed through gave its dying struggles.

Victorious, she stepped into the water and yanked out her prize. A good size, too! She would have a full belly tonight! Combine it with some of the berries she had found, and dinner would be a delight. She tucked it into the basket, rinsed the spear in the water, and started humming softly as she marched back to her home. Though she loved the peace of the woods, a little melody now and then never hurt~ It wasn't as though she ever had anyone else to talk to.

Setting a new trap the cervitaur was enjoying the silence until a strange melody made his hands stumble. Cursing softly Kallan dropped the trap and spun around. Where was that coming from? Admittedly it had taken him a second to realize that the sound was foreign and he may have even enjoyed the sound…as unnatural as it was for the forest. “What in the world?” His gaze hardened as he scanned the trees.

Out of all the times he had been out here, there had been no one else. It had always just been him…no one dared venture this far out. A shiver lit down the male’s spine. The stories about the spirit of the drowned girl…or was it a stalker’s trick? His hand instinctively went to the dagger which hung at his side. What man would run from this? He needed to brace himself and find the answer! Like hell ghosts would actually exist! Gritting his teeth Kallan started for the trees and after the mysterious melody.

Carefree, Sakina slipped silently through the woods, her steps light and gentle. If she hadn't been humming, even she might not have been able to hear herself!

Then, something strange reached her own ears, and she paused, ears perked high. Had she heard something? It didn't sound like the animals of the woods that she knew... Was she just hearing things?

No matter. She started humming again, and continued on her way. To ease the strange feeling that sound had left, she hummed a little louder.

There it was again. Kallan’s clenched his fist as he fought against the hidden urge to just turn away and leave. But this was his hunting area and the male felt the need to prove to himself that this wasn’t anything odd or supernatural. Then again it left the worry of if it wasn’t a ghost then who was it?

Quietly Kallan treated this like he was on the hunt. Each tree he passed the cervitaur trailed a hand across it, feeling the bark as if the trees were guiding his way. Ears twitching he paused and leaned forward. Which direction again? The noise was louder now. Was that movement ahead? Oh gods...frowning at this strange situation the cervitaur slowly continued through the trees. And in his hurry to keep up with the noise nearly stumbled as he cracked a fallen branch beneath his hooves.

Sakina started thinking about the different ways she could prepare her fish. Should the berries be on the side, or right on the fish? Maybe they should be cooked in the same pot?

When a stick snapped just a short distance behind her, she reacted before thinking. The stumbling steps hadn't sounded like anything she'd heard before! With a short howl, she spun and threw her fishing spear at the area the stumbling noise had come from, eyes glaring sharply at the high bushes blocking her vision of her stalker. "Come out, demon!" she snarled, dropping her basket with the fish.

Cursing loudly Kallan barely had time to dive out of the way before the spear landed next to where he had been standing. What the hell? “At least I don’t have to worry about it being a spirit.” Though it was inhuman how accurate that spear throw had been. Perhaps spirits could have weapons then. Still the cervitaur picked up the fishing spear and without another moment of hesitation came out of the woods towards the attacker. “You!”

“Me a demon?” He thought angrily before muttering, “I’m not the one trying to spear everyone!” Though it didn’t help that his tumble to save himself had resulted in the cervitaur’s antlers getting caught in brush. Ivy and dirt hung in clumps around his head hiding his face save for the flashing glare of his eyes. Mud as well decorated his torso from the damp ground where it had rained the night before. Tossing the spear a good distance away from both of them angrily he stood there staring down the female with new surprise. It just had to be a woman. Out of all things…Kallan cursed. What the hell was a female cervitaur doing out here by herself let alone throwing spears at people?

Sakina crouched as she heard more crashing and stumbling, eyes narrowed and hard. She had to be ready for whatever came through those trees! Her ears twitched at the voice, body tensing further as the foliage began to move.

"Come out, beast!" She plucked out a hunting knife and held it in front of her. The image that broke through the bushes though... Sakina's eyes widened in shock and confusion, and then a hint of fear. With a high pitched shriek, she spun and ran. As she dashed around the trees, she peeked back over her shoulder. Follow me, demon...

He went from being a demon to a beast? What the hell was wrong with this? Unaware of his current fashion statement the cervitaur frowned. She was holding a knife out against him now? Suddenly he really didn’t like this situation. His confusion grew even worse as he watched the female turn in terror and flee from him. Hah! At least she knew better than to try and take on him. His own hand tightened around the knife he held. Anyone smart would have known better than to try to fight him.

But then again it hit him.

She was a female. A female running through the woods alone. With a knife. What if she got hurt while running? No one else would be around to help her. Cursing softly under his breath Kallan sighed before forcing himself to stop turning away so that he could start chasing the female through the trees. “Seriously! Did anyone teach you not to run with a knife like that?” Ironically enough his own knife flashed through the trees as he started chasing after her.
is teeth Kallan started for the trees and after the mysterious melody.

Sakina grinned as she heard her pursuer give chase. Perfect. She was running through too many branches to really hear what he was calling out. She heard the word 'knife' though, and assumed that he was threatening her. Well, she would show him!

She gave another scream to sound weak and draw him in further. Just a little more... Quickly, she dove to the side, crouching under a particularly ferny bush, and yanked up the rope she had hidden there. She'd never had the need to use it until now, but her parents had taught her about caution. ...before they'd vanished at sea...

Gritting her teeth, pulled the rope tight and held still. ..Later, she would have to move the rope to a different location. This was too close to her home. Or perhaps she would just lay out more ropes? Her ears perked forward, body tense as she waited.

Each branch that Kallan encountered was greeted with a muffle curse. Seriously? What was going on with this girl? Eyes narrowing in frustration the cervitaur pushed himself to gain even more speed despite the rough path that the forest gave him. If he had been thinking a bit more then the cervi may had realized that there was something too calm about this chase. The female had made it through this area fine…and the worn hints of a path meant that someone had gone this way before, multiple times. Of course common sense was hard for Kallan to use when he was in such a weird situation. Not to mention that surely there was no way that a female was living this far out in the woods by herself.

No way right?

Just like there was no chance of any traps being laid out for him. Noticing the rope a second to late Kallan stumbled and with a loud “omph!” ended up rolling over on the ground. Wincing he angrily tore at the vines which had dislodged from his antlers and revealing his normal, slightly dirty, face the cervitaur tossed the mess at the ground. “What is this?” He rubbed his forehead. Some crazy delusion from eating the wrong herb or something?

Maybe this was just the ghost they talked about. No, a ghost wouldn’t have need of traps. Still it was baffling. What was going on here exactly? Embarrassed to have so easily fallen for a simple trap like that Kallan grimaced. This was why he hated females…they ruined everything. His calm, his normal routine, his quiet…thinking about that made him pause. Now where did she go? “You better be a ghost at this point.” He muttered standing before wincing with realization. His knife…picking it up from the ground Kallan wiped his own blood on the grass. Looking down though made him notice something amiss, “Are you satisfied now you forest sprite? Made me cut my own leg…” As he spoke he leaned heavily against a tree, for a cooler appearance (totally not because he was afraid of standing due to the cut, that would be too weak of him) and crossed his arms as if waiting on something. While he glared around Kallan suddenly looked towards a group of bushes, including a bush which looked rather ruffled as if it had been recently touched.

Sakina hissed out at her success, watching the forest demon tumble to the ground. She gripped her hunting knife again, and was about to leap out when she smelled it. ...Blood? Did demons bleed? She paused, and peered out through the leaves. The mask of vines was gone, revealing nothing more than... another cervitaur.

Eyes widening, she slunk back into the shadows further. What if this was just a trick? It could be a demon disguising himself as- No. That was real blood. And surely a mask would not be covered in dirt. No demon would let himself look that silly.

"Shouldn't be carryin' a blade if yer so careless with it," she shot back, holding her own knife firmly. "Leave. This my territory, and yer not welcome!"

His sharp gaze snapped towards the bushes where he swore he heard some noise. What was this some forest wild woman? Ah, but there. He smirked, “Well it does speak.” Bending down he looked to his wound though his body was perched in case of a fight, “To think I should be the one telling you that.” Opening his pack the cervi ripped off cloth and tightly wrapped his leg while keeping an eye on the bushes.

“So you expect me to listen to a clump of bushes yelling at me to leave?” Kallan retorted his gaze flashing angily, “I’ll have you know that I’ve been roaming this area since I could walk. I’m not leaving because some female claimed it as her territory.” He shook his head at the thought of it, “Be more serious now.”

"I' ain't the one fallin' on my own blade," she said with a snort, cocking her head to peer at the wound as it was wrapped. She could see him looking over at where she hid. Dang...

"I expect ya ta listen ta the one caught ya in her trap!" Ears perking, she growled loudly. "Yeh must be lost. My home been here since I was born. I won't be chased off by the likes of you, talkin' nonsense!"

“Ahahaha. You’re so funny.” Kallan retorted sharply before sliding his knife back in his sheath. He didn’t want to accidentally stab her. Should be able to handle a small fight. His nose wrinkled though. He really didn’t want to hit a female. “Dammit.” He muttered as the idea made foggy memories flash through his mind. This really was the last thing that he ever wanted to encounter in these woods, his sanctuary.

Her voice snapped him back to reality though, “Trap? You call that a trap?” He laughed, “More like a flimsy trick.” Kallan’s temper was steadily rising as he touched his injured leg on the ground. Good it wasn’t a deep cut at all. But it was good to play it off differently. A small smirk crossed his features before he stumbled a bit away from the tree, “Oh really? You cannot be telling me that you live out here alone in this place? Are you crazy? It would be so easy for someone like you to get mauled out here!” He snorted, “Don’t you know the dangers of this forest, lady? There’s a reason not many taur wander through here.”

Patience. Surely she would come out soon. Though what he would do exactly...well that he wasn't certain of.
