User ImageA small whine came from her throat as she let her gaze drop down toward the ground. Once more, she had let the plant go without food, and once more, she was slowly losing all her energy and life force. Her eyes flickered up toward the sky for a brief moment, cataloging the time of day, before she shook out her mane of blue and gold hair, hooves lifting only slightly off the floor of the woods. She had refused to feed him for days, believing that if she possibly just ignored him, then she could live without him and be normal. But, that was all in vain, as she was growing weaker and sicker as the days passed.

Feiurce let out a soft sigh, her short tail flicking a bit as she dipped her head down toward the ground to sniff at some of the grass. It looked good, and it looked as though it would satisfy her own hunger. But the illness in her body made her find that they were nothing but distasteful substances that could possibly help, but more than likely wouldn’t. Shaking her head, she continued onward, ears pinning a bit as the plant let out a small whining noise. The vines creeped slowly along her neck, before tightening some, thorns pressing into her flesh and making red tint on white fur.

Tilting her head back in some attempt to see the plant, Feiurce frowned and let out a soft snort, ”Oh hush. You’re… You’re fine!” She retorted, letting out a grunt.

The mare continued forward, her eyes flickering up towards the sky once more. It was growing dark; and her parents had always said that wandering around at night was not in the best of interests for pretty mares like her. Pretty mares should never wander around without a proper escort. She let out a small huff, holding her head up high and shook out her mane. She was strong enough to do it all on her own, thank you very much; and if that meant trying to outsmart some Skinwalker, she could do that too! Feiurce was a confidant mare, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that she was in the best of shape and that life was just right.

But, that blasted plant that sat within her hair always seemed to ruin it for her! It was always sick, and when it wasn’t, it meant that she had just fed it some form of dead animal; sometimes even an older horse who had passed. Shuddering, Feiurce dipped her head down again as she moved through the forest, heading quietly forward and toward the sound of a stream not too far off. Damn the thought of having to be near a corpse once more, and having to smell and feel the flesh against her own skin. Shifting carefully, she walked to the water’s edge, before lowering her head, and started to drink slowly. At least water continued to help her keep her spirits up.

Lazarus was hungry, and he was frustrated. His desire for meat had come out of nowhere, unexpected and a terror to behold. When it became too strong, he couldn’t control himself. A bloodlust took over him, and he was afraid of what he might do in the midst of it. He’d gotten lucky so far: only small animals had been hurt, and those he quickly devoured to sate his appetite. His stomach, used to only grass, was none too happy, but it was something he could deal with at least, and he didn’t know how long he could keep it up.

Now, he was scared. He realized what was happening, and painfully aware of the monster he was becoming. His sharp hooves pounded at the dirt, but he’d never hunted before, never even realized he would have to. All he could do was rampage – the bloodlust was too strong for him think and strategize. Losing it... he was losing his mind again, losing, losing, losing. And then, he was gone.

What remained was a more primeval beast, one that did not care of the dying light or the dangers of the forest. Only blood mattered now, and he would find it.

A small groan slipped past her lips as she moved. God she was tired. Feiurce blinked up toward the sky; now dark from the night. She shook out her mane and moved, much like a ghost, through the woods. What was she going to do? What could she do? She pursed her lips, her tail giving a half flick as she tried to figure out what she was going to do. She needed to feed the plant, and needed to do it soon. But what if she couldn’t? What if all it did was harm her farther? Grimacing at the thought, she shook her head before continuing forward, her eyes flickering toward the ground. She tried to smell, to sniff the air and pick up anything that could be lingering of “death”. But thus far, she had nothing.

It was then that she thought she heard a snap; a twig breaking under the weight of something larger than it was. The mare froze quickly, her ears perked up, eyes flickering. A deer in headlights in deed. Except these headlights were not from something that was not yet created. Oh no, this was something far different. Something more dangerous that could take the life from her in a matter of seconds. She glanced around, trying to find what it was that had caused the snap, but nothing was around. Nothing that she could see, anyways.

The mare took a few steps, shifting herself in the trees until she did see something. She froze once more, staring for several seconds as she eyed the creature that wasn’t too far from her. His body was littered with scales, and horns petruded from his head. Wings from his sides and his tail was long… well… kind of. It was short with long hair on the end. His colors reminded her of the nights of Autumn that the foals called “Halloween”. She wasn’t certain what he was doing out here, but at the moment he didn’t seem dangerous; though she didn’t know of anything that was. She had never met anyone that had sought to harm her; so, she just smiled toward the stallion, and breathed out a soft sigh of relief before speaking in a quiet voice.

”Thank god… I thought you were a Skinwalker or some big cat or something…” She said, shaking her mane out some before she peered up toward the stallion with curious eyes. Though she wasn’t certain who he was, she didn’t mind some company aside from the plant. She was tired, after all, and anyone that could possibly help was good! So, she had decided to be friendly; to try and see if he could possibly help her in some way. And if not, she would leave him and go on her way, not wanting to be a bother.

Lazarus’ steps stilled and his head snapped towards the groan. Though the sound was little more than a soft exhalation, it was a roaring summons to his searching ears and he surged forward to meet it. He showed as much caution as an enraged bull, crashing heedlessly against bush and bramble in his haste. It was only when he neared and the sharp snap of a twig cut the silence between him and his prey did he realize he could send it rushing off in a fright. Alarmed at the prospect, he froze, though he half-expected it to run off already. It didn’t.

His eyes weren’t meant for darkness and he peered hard past the trees, concentrating on the dim silhouette that was to be his meal. It appeared to be a soquili like himself, and he realized with surprise that it was staring at him, too. Did it mistake him for an ally?

You...” he began, stepping closer. His contemplations and the mare’s words stirred him from his bloodlust, but now he could smell the weakness of hunger on her, and his own belly rumbled. Without another thought he lunged, his mouth open wide, intending to grab the blunt of her muzzle and suffocate her.

Feiurce was overly glad it wasn't a walker; honestly, the thought of running into one in her weakened state was one of her worst fears. Her small tail flicked lightly behind her, before she peered at the stallion that seemed to move closer. She blinked the bright eyes toward him, before noting the difference in his appearance. Something was wrong... something was different. The mare took a half step back, her jaw clenching, eyes flickering alone the stallions facial features. He had a look in his eyes... a look that made her blood run cold and her heart stop in her chest. After a moment, she saw it; the blood lust and the animalistic nature, and quickly took a step back. The movement made it to where his teeth nearly nipped her nose. As soon as that happened, Feiruce turned, and fled.

Her hooves beat the ground hard as she ran. The long, golden hair whipped back away from her face, and the plant cried out in distress at the effort and movement. It dug sharp vines into her neck and scalp to keep itself planted upon her. The mare weaved around several trees, refusing to look back over her shoulder. She had to get out; she had to get away from the stallion. She had no idea why he was attacking; why he wanted to hurt her, but she didn't care to know. She just needed to get away from him. Her ears pinned back as she ducked under a branch, hooves kicking up leaves and dirt as she ran.

His mouth was wide and his teeth sharp. They made an audible snap when his jaws closed over empty air, and he roared his frustrations amongst the trees so that the birds took flight to escape his wrath. But screaming did little to fill the belly, and Lazarus recovered soon enough.

His prey was fleet of foot despite her own hunger. With another, she may have escaped within moments, but Lazarus had grown up amongst trees more tightly packed than these, and dodging root and trunk and limb came easy to him, despite the fact that he had not done so in some time. Her hair was gold and sapphires, too: they shone in the light of the dying sun, and though the rays painted everything with an orange hue, she was easy to spot.

Before long, he was upon her. This time, he waited until he was nearly beside her before he lunged again.

((From what I remember, he wounds her a little before they come across a corpse and both go after it. xD Then after they’ve both seen one another’s hidden halves, they can start becoming friends? Let me know if I’m mistaken, I know I’m a slowass tagger and I am so old my memory is gone. qwq))

Feiruce winced slightly as she rounded the side of a tree, her body running on barely anything. She took in deep breaths, trying to keep herself together. Every move hurt. Her hooves broke up grass and leaves and branches, turning it into trampled nothingness. She let out a small cry of distress, jumping a small log before she glanced to the side just in time to see him there. The mare let out another cry, before trying to turn herself the other way. The motion caused her to slip, stumbling toward the ground with a loud crash. She winced, rolled some, tried to get back on her feet. But every motion caused her to scramble even more. She was panicked, and everything was going wrong. Her eyes flicked to the stallion above her, fear entering her as she tried to get herself away from him at the same time.

It was then that she smelt it. Her eyes widened for a moment, before scanning, searching. The plant let out a cry of distress and hunger, vines tightening. It could smell it too. Decayed flesh, somewhere near by. The plant was going nuts. It wanted food, wanted it now. The small jaws snapped and shifted, looking for the source. Feiurce flinched, feeling pain going through her body from where the stallion had tackled her. She was certain that something had fractured or bruised or, worse, broken. She got herself up before he could manage to, and started for the smell, limping toward it. Her ears pinned from the pain, but she moved all the same, knowing if she could get the plant fed, she could have the energy to run.
