Serendipity picked her way through the foliage of the forests, the dried leaves crunching softly under her footsteps. She carried her staff in one hand, and a small brown pouch was tied around her waist and dangled right by her upper thigh. Though it was early day, the air was already beginning to heat up and it promised to be a scorcher of a day.

How unfortunate, since it limited what she aimed to be able to do today.

Rounding around a particularly large tree, a beautiful stone structure came into view and a smile slid across the Fae's face. Ah yes, what a familiar structure this was; just months earlier she was here, dressed up like a doll, and dancing with the most unique partner she had ever met. One she was hoping to be able to see once more.

She scaled the steps two at a time, feeling excited now as she entered the massive building, moving past the main entrance room, past several side rooms including the competition room, and down a hall to a different side room. She wasn't sure exactly where she was going or what she was doing, really, but she'd hope for the best. The worst that could happen is she'd just go home earlier than expected.

Pulling the pouch to her front, she opened it to pull out a small dried braid-rope of sage and a decent sized pair of rocks: flint and pyrite. Striking the two together, multiple times, she finally gave birth to a spark, which caught quickly to the dried leaves and released the smokey incense into the air. Stepping back, wringing her hands nervously, she called out in a soft voice.

"Iordanes, are you available?" Why was she so damn nervous? It wasn't like they were good friends or anything... why should she expect him to even remember her?

As the savory scent wafts upward, Iordanes is lounging in his home on Dolandor, chatting with Euphrosyne. It was good to have her back. Her presence brightened their home. Suddenly his pupils dilate and he looks around. "You must excuse me, dear sister. I appear to have been summoned." Euphrosyne, of course, understands and leaves.

Fascinating. It was that charming mortal girl, Serendipity. They'd been partners at Mother's delightfully awkward dancing game. He wonders what she requires of him. Focusing his energy, he appears in the temple before her. "For a beautiful woman, I am always available," he says with a soft chuckle. "How wonderful to see you again, my dear!" He bends and kisses her hand. "To what do I owe the pleasure?" Chances were she came on some sort of business, or needed a favor, but he always hopes that those who call on him desire his personal presence as well...

At first, Serendipity had a look of pure surprise as the immortal appeared in front of her. It had worked? It had worked! Her face lit up with a hardly contained joy, and as he took her hand to kiss it, she let her fingers squeeze ever so lightly in a warm gesture. "It is truly splendid to see you as well, Iordanes."

Her cheeks grew red as she found herself feeling embarrassed. Why exactly was she here again? Certainly, he would think it silly if she simply stated she wished to 'hang out'... immortals had better things to do than that, right?

"I was curious to know if you would like to take a break away from family, even for just a bit." She reached up and tucked the bright purple streak of hair behind her ears, her wings fluttering in anticipation. "I can understand if this was a bad time, though. I just thought, perhaps you would like to have a change in scenery? I can understand if you wish not to; it is going to be quite a warm day."

Iordanes feels his heart do a little flip. She had come calling on him personally! Even more fascinating...perhaps he'd had more of an impression on her a few months ago than he'd thought.

He flashes a charming smile and offers his arm. "I think I could spare an afternoon for a beautiful lady," he says. "Where did you have in mind?"

'Calm down, Serendipity...' The Fae chanted silently to herself, feeling her nerves finally slip away. She returned his smile with one of her own and let her hand slip into the crook of his elbow. She fell into step beside him as they began heading towards the front of the temple, her staff in her free hand.

"Well, what have you seen of the Isle already? I'd hate do something that you do on your own visits here anyways." Though, with the promise of how warm of a day it was going to be, chances were their best bet would be staying in the trees or finding their way towards the lake where the water would be like ice from the run offs of the mountains.

Iordanes chuckles lightly. "Actually I lived here on Telrunya for a space," he answers, looking around. "I'll tell you the story if you like," he offers. "But I lived here and there, never with a permanent home. I'm sure wherever we go will be charming," he assures her, patting her arm with his other hand. "We should visit your favorite place," he suggests earnestly.

"You have?" She looked up with him, surprised and deeply curious. "I would be most interested in hearing your stories of your times here." She gave his arm a very gentle squeeze, much more relaxed now than she had been earlier. The dance hadn't been nearly as nerve wrecking, since they were forced upon one another by random pairing; this was a choice to be in the company of the other.

"My favorite place?" Seren laughed lightly. "I'm not sure you'd enjoy it too much; it's more of a place of quiet and thought than a place you can actually do things in. But there's a small river bend I like to visit that has a very rocky shore. It keeps most Pae from disturbing the area since there are far better locations for swimming and lounging, but I don't mind the rocks much and the peace and quiet is as beautiful as the scenery."

"Lead the way," says Iordanes, opening his free hand in a gesture of invitation. "While we walk, I'll tell my story. Just know it will be your turn later," he says with a bit of a smile.

As they walk, Iordanes begins his story. "I tired of the constant drama and bickering between my mother and siblings shortly after arriving at this place. And I had always watched the mortals below, coming and going, fascinated with their lives. It's our privilege to be able to come and go on Telrunya as we please, so I decided to take my leave of Dolandor for a space. I wandered the island for a while, never really making my home anywhere. And then I met her..." He sighs lightly. "She changed my life and my perspective forever."

"I can assure you, my story will be dull compared to yours." Serendipity chuckled a little. "And not nearly as wonderful as you'd think." How exactly would she explain her missing, and presumably dead, mother and brother? Or the fact that her father still hadn't gotten out of his grieving state? The only joyous thing was that she had reconnected with her sister. There was no way around the fact that, telling her story would only end in a sad note.

While Iordanes began his story, she got their bearings before leading into the trees again. Already, the air was starting to feel humid with the heat, and she began to feel horrible for taking an immortal out into this awful weather. Keeping an eye on their path, she tilted her head to watch him as he spoke as well, listening intently to his words.

"Who is she? To change anyone the way you are saying, she must have been a spectacular Pae." She hid perfectly the surprising little stab she felt in her heart, wondering to herself why she felt that way and deciding to meditate on it later. Her company was no normal Pae, and she would do well to remember that information.

Iordanes hadn't missed that little pang that had cross Serendipity's face. There's a perverse sort of pride that wells in his heart because of it. So she had some feelings for him. Fascinating.

"Her name is Paloma," he continues. "She looks very much like you, actually," he adds, glancing over Serendipity's body. "Well, her skin and hair and wings are different colors, but she has much the same shape that you do." He chuckles. "I encountered her in my wanderings. She was lost and confused and without a friend or a protector in the world. So I took her under my wing." He shrugs a little, then glances at her face. "A child," he says meaningfully.

At the mention of their similarity, a confused look came over Serendipity's face. She and this woman looked similar? As the explanation and slight description followed, she came to understand that this mysterious girl was a Fae like herself. As he continued to explain the situation, she smiled a little; he was quite kind, to have done such a thing.

"A child?" She felt her cheeks growing warm as her eyes met his. Had he... known she'd had that strange sensation from earlier? A kind smile came over her face as she gave his arm a gentle squeeze. "You are quite brave to take a child on yourself, not to mention incredibly kindhearted. Tell me more about her?"

"Well, she was quite a handful. Still is, I suspect, though she's grown now. But when I began to care for her she was as cute as a button. Little brown pigtails with curls popping out everywhere, and huge green eyes." He chuckles fondly, remembering. "She wanted to know if I was her mother." Iordanes scratches the back of her neck. "I wasn't sure if I wanted to explain my whole...." he makes sort of a sweeping gesture over himself, "...thing to a child, so I just said no." He shakes his head. "Evidently she'd been living on her own for some time and had met other children who had parents, but she never remembered her own." He looks earnestly at Serendipity. "And I decided that I couldn't just leave her there without anyone to take care of her....so I taught her "Father" and made a home with her."

Serendipity couldn't stop the chuckle that bubbled up out of her at the child's pure innocence in the story. It was so true that a child would instantly look at him and assume 'female'. The laughter soon died as she thought of the parent-less child, though, and she realized how lucky she had been to know her mother, even if the Fae was gone now.

"Is it correct to guess that you left when she was grown and leaving the home?" There was sorrow in her eyes as she spoke, because as easily as she knew she was lucky, she knew the emptiness of a parent that was gone from one's life. She wondered if it was the same feeling a parent felt if it was their offspring.

Looking up, she smiled softly. "We're here." She lifted her staff to point through the trees where gap showed the slow-flowing portion of a river and the sound of water could be heard easily. As they got closer, the air was cooling a bit from the cold water, though it was more humid. Once through the trees, it was seen that the banks was made up of mostly rocks and that while this particular place was slow moving, farther along both ends of the river segment was white waters from the faster current hitting rocks. It wasn't a place where one would normally chose to swim, but it was perfect for enjoying the beauty and having a quiet moment to one's self.

Iordanes had started to respond, but his thoughts are interrupted by their arrival. "Oh, how wonderful!" he exclaims. The beauty of this place is extraordinary. He wonders how he hadn't seen it, looking down as he did from Dolandor. He smiles warmly at Serendipity. "It's a warm day; we could dip our toes into the water," he suggests with a little twinkle in his eye.

"As for Paloma," he continues, sitting down at the edge of the water, "She still lives in that place. You see, much in the same way I found her, she found another little one. She's called Jeanette Isabella. So as I raised Paloma, so she raised Jeanette Isabella. Of course, I was around to help for that, but once that little one was grown..." he shrugs a little. "I felt it was time to return to my other family. You see, living here on Telrunya, and raising those two girls...it taught me the importance of family. And even though mine is large and complicated and...sometimes completely bonkers...they're still my family."

He laughs and waves his hand dismissively. "I apologize, my dear, I didn't mean to get all serious." He wiggles his toes in the water.

Serendipity felt the heat rush to her cheeks again and she smiled warmly back to the immortal. "It's certainly a small little piece of beauty. Be careful of the rocks, some of them are sharp." She warned softly, not wanting him to injure himself. She took her time picking across the rocks until she was at the edge that was more gravel than sand, and sat herself next to him. She put enough space between them that she wasn't encroached in his personal bubble, but she also wasn't half a mile away.

She dipped the tip of her toes into the cold water and rested her hands on her knees as she listened more to his story. "You don't need to apologize at all, Iordanes. What they taught you is something precious." She looked up at a cloud in the sky and sighed. "It's similar to my mother, who taught me to be accepting of all things: life, events, people." Her eyes closed as she held back tears, wishing her mother was still with them. "She taught me to appreciate what I have, because some desires are not obtainable even with the hardest of work and prayers."
