It shouldn't have surprised him to find that the Amityville Academy library was stocked with a much larger selection of volumes than his local one back home. Some of them were fascinating, others barely more than scareling picture books, but one in particular had so captivated the boil's attention that he had stared into its open pages for several hours, ignoring his human studies homework in favor of squinting at its tiny text. The tome described, in barely coherent riddles, the location of a portal that led to a system of catacombs in the human world. Bren pictured wide, dry caverns full of magical treasures, or at the very least, a slightly dusty cavern filled with slightly dingy treasures, which was why he had only brought a towel, a couple of bottles of water, some spookies, and the notes he had taken while reading.

The reaper crept near the edges of the Weeping Forest, failing to look as nonchalant as he might have hoped he did. Two months ago he had thought himself very well prepared to venture out into the world, but the more time he spent away from home, the more he realized some of the things he did and the way he carried himself didn't quite fit. He couldn't decide if that should make him upset or not.

Right now, he only cared about one thing: finding this mysterious portal. Honing his social skills would come later, if ever.

Getting into the The Ancient Necropolis:
  • You need to camp out in the Weeping Forest after reading the information. Hunters can enter Halloween as well without a golem (recommended as the Altar itself is very golem unfriendly due to its climate and high altitude as well as natural enemies), for a max of 30 minutes. Each roll takes 5 IC minutes - students can pretty much park here as long as they need as well as horsemen while Hunters will need to exit and enter back again.
  • Basically, all Hunter characters have 6 chances to find the portal. If they don't find it, they will need to leave and come back. Students and Horsemen do not need to ICly leave and come back.
  • All players roll 1d100.
  • Rolling 50 or less will let players find a portal that takes them to the frigid tundra, near a certain abandoned base that some older Hunters might remember. Some polar bears have taken up residence here, and gosh aren't they hungry? Better run!
  • Rolling 70 or less will let players find a portal to an alley near a busy street marketplace in Cairo, Egypt, and a street vendor mistakes you for someone that stole some of his wares. Yikes!
  • Rolling 80 or less will lead you to the Haunted House.
  • Rolling 81 or higher will let you find the portal! Success! You can now proceed inside.

It wasn't long before the reaper had put aside his notes in favor of crawling around on all fours in search of any sign that a portal existed here at all. He didn't like the idea of being led around by some ancient tome that had likely been penned by a madman, even if he was determined to try new things.

Brenley was just about ready to consider maybe giving up when he noticed a thin line of oddly shimmering grass out of the corner of his eye. The boil inhaled sharply in surprise, scooting over in what he hoped was the odd occurrence's vicinity. Had it moved? No, there it was. He held out a hand, formerly pale and unblemished, now marked with smudges of dirt and scratches, and prodded at the anomaly, gasping in earnest when it tugged him... inside.

The world he entered was cold and murky, driving snow pelting him from every angle. The cloth-wrapped leg and foot that remained in Halloween was still warm, but the rest of him was rapidly turning into a FEARsicle. In the distance, he could hear the bellow of an angry animal. This was not the desert, nor was it a place he wanted to visit by himself. Curling back toward the portal, the boil pulled himself through with a determined shout. So much for stealth.

He lay on his back under a friendly-looking tree for the better part of a half an hour after that, contemplating what he had seen and whether or not he wanted to continue on this journey at all. The boil wished to learn everything that he could while here at Amityville, but learning about peaceful, fluffy, shimmering snow from pictures in a book and actually experiencing it were two different things.

Eventually Brenley sat up again, running his fingers through his hair to straighten it. He made sure all of his wraps, belts and pouches were in order, then continued rising to his feet, squinting in the portal's direction. He reluctantly hoped it was still there, that his indecision hadn't ruined his chance to try being brave.

The air wavered off to his left and the boil let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He strode up to the tear in space, stepping through it with none of the caution he knew he should have been displaying. On the other side stretched a wide expanse of sand. The... desert? He kept a hand in Halloween, much as he had inadvertently done before, blinking in the bright sun. Was this the human world? It didn't look much different than some parts of Halloween, to be honest. Then again, he supposed that strange faire Professor Rengath had taken them to hadn't either.

Bren cleared his throat. "Hello?"
