Any good examples of nature writing in Argentinian or Latin American literature? mrgreen

When I was little, I knew of a story in Arabic titled "Wada'an Marco!" (or "Good bye Marco!"). I think it's about a young Italian kid who goes out searching for his mother in South America (and I think speciffically, Argentina). Wow... that's been such a long, long time ago.

Sorry if I don't sound very knowlegable. I would love a little introduction... sweatdrop

I like Luis Sepulveda. I think he's not from Argentina but he's still from latin America. I read "The old man who read love stories" and "Nombre de Torrero" and I really liked them. 3nodding

To be honest, I haven't read many argentinian literature (just a book of child terror tales named "Socorro diez y otros relatos"), what can you recommend from Julio Cortázar?

If you want more recomendations of latin american literature I would say:

-La fiesta del chivo -Mario Vargas Llosa
-El amor en los tiempos del cólera - Gabriel García Márquez
-100 años de soledad - Gabriel García Márquez
-Dos crímenes - Jorge Ibargüengoitia
-Las muertas - Jorge Ibargüengoitia
-Gringo viejo - Carlos Fuentes
-Demasiado amor - Sara Sefcovich
-Balún Canán - Rosario Castellanos
-Pedro Páramo - Juan Rulfo
-El llano en llamas - Juan Rulfo

There are many more, but those are the only I could remember right now 4laugh

Jorge Luis Borges is my favorite foreign writer! I can not describe how I love him! It is pity that he died so long time ago. I wish I could meet him and talk about live, magic and etc. He is amazing!!!! I love his thoughts and his ideas.
My favorite his short story is (I am not sure about my translation=) "The writings id God".
It is about prisoner who was a priest in the temple of ancient Indian God. He was sitting in the prisor long years, and he started to remember all ancient legends about God of his nation. There was a leopard across a grating on the opposite side. And this man remembered the legend that God wrote his real magic name on the skin of leopard. And if somebody say this name he will stand the most powerful man in the world.
This former priest started to watch on the leopard`s skin every moment when there was a light in the prison.
This story has the wonderfully wise end.
Finally this priest learned the real name of God. He understood that if he only say it he could return all his dead nation and his temple in one moment. But at the same time he undestood that there is no meaning in it and there is no difference when he is: at the prison or at large. And he did not say the name of God.

I'm not too familiar with argentinian literature, I've read only Borges and I adore his stories. I was astonished by his style of writing and the way he mixed something what I considered that can't be mixed, fantasy and philosophy. I haven't read much, only ''Aleph'' and the anthology '' The Book of Dreams'' (I apologize if I said it wrong, this is translated translation stressed ), but I'm planning to read it more as soon as I find enough of time. And thank you for putting more writers, I'll definitely look for some of that authors 'cause I'm getting interested in arg. literature...

I don't know if this should be considered as literature, but there is no doubt that it's an important part of argentinians. I'm referring to Mafalda, that character from Joaquin Lavado "Quino" that is always ranting about the world.
