His leg had started to heal, but it still hurt when he moved. Being stubborn, however, Rae'lilongass'ame didn't want to stay in one place. Especially when the snow was now stopped, and it was considered "Summer". He moved slowly in the snow, limping here and there. The sun was out, yet it was still cold. He hadn't gotten use to the cold weather yet.

He shook his body to try to shake the cold, but it seemed to cling to him for a bit. Eventually he'd get use to it. Everything else was grand, except the cold. His fur hadn't grown to adapt to the weather, but it really hadn't been long since he was here. What he needed was a distraction.

Rae would be given three.

Bisra was boisterous for a hare. His voice carried through the frigid air first and foremost, brazen words blurted out in an earnest tone that betrayed his small frame and gave the impression he was twice his size. Had he been born into the body of a full-blooded Firekin or even an elephant, it still wouldn't have been enough bulk to contain his enthusiasm. "So then I bit him right on the nose!" Bisra twittered, concluding the likely fabricated encounter with a hungry leopard.

Kirala was much less sonorous. She stayed close to the side of her lioness companion, both out of habit and to better exchange incredulous glances. She dearly loved her son, but goodness, he could be... an unruly sort. Not near as clever as he was handsome, so kudos to her for having the foresight to hunker down in her den with the good-looking father he more closely resembled. "Oh, look there," she said.

Up ahead of them was a sight never in short supply around these parts: a lion, sky-colored and covered in snow. Korini was the last to notice him, and before she could so much as spare an opinion, Bisra was up on his hind legs, ears erect and swiveling forward. The hare piped up, "I don't like this one. Look at him limping like that. Might have the plague."

"He doesn't have the plague," Korini chided. The thought did give her pause, though. Memories of her felled pride flickered across her mind and she gave the lion a once-over despite herself and the sense enough she had to know sickness over injury.

"Don't go starting trouble," Kirala said sternly, more to her kin than her comrade.

Korini flicked her tail so it swatted Bisra's side just enough to sting. Approaching her fellow predator, she called, "Nice day, isn't it?"

If you liked the cold, which she did.

Rae'lilongass'ame had heard them before he had seen them, or rather, he heard the male hare before seeing them. Normally he'd be surprised to see lions with things they could eat, but since he had come here, it had been rather normal to see hares with lions. In fact, he had grown attached to the idea. "It could be worse." He said with a nod. "Still getting use to the cold."

He didn't put any pressure upon his left back leg. To be honest, there wasn't much damage to his leg, it was just really bruised. If one had removed the hair from it, there'd be one massive bruise there. Other than that, it looked relatively normal. "I'm Rae." He said with a nod. Everyone else called him that, so it seemed to stick.

Rae. Korini comitted the name to memory. Being assigned the role of guard came with a number of responsibilites, one of which was remembering who was and wasn't an outsider. Easier said than done when the only individuals who weren't still for the most part strangers were the hares you'd brought with you. Given time, she'd have a proper conversation with each lion in the pride. "I'm Korini." Offering her name to Rae was as good a place to start as any.

In the past, Korini had felt strange introducing hares as something other than "dinner," but here their allegiance to one another was nothing to gawk at. "These two are called Kirala and Bisra."

Bisra was perched on his hindlegs at her side, watching mutely, but Kirala chimed in, "It's a pleasure to meet you. Have you been in the pride long? I'm certain I recognize your face."

Rae only knew Urza, and now Korini. He smiled at her with a nod. "Pleasure to meet you." He looked to the hares and nodded at them too. "Pleasure." He shook his head at Bisra, he thought, "I wouldn't say that long." He paused. "I was brought here after a tree fell upon my leg. Urza helped me escape." He looked to his leg. It was still painful to move on, but that was about it.

"Maybe a couple days." He said trying to remember. Everything had become a haze, it seemed. He looked back to the hares and then back to Korini. "Have you guys been here long? I don't think I remember seeing you either, thought that's not saying much." He chuckled. He hadn't been able to move since he got to the pride until now.

A tree? Kirala thought. It's a wonder it's not shattered! The voice in her head did indeed sound awed. She wasn't bold enough to approach for a closer look, but when she was able without attracting attention to it, she would inspect his leg from the corner of her eye. What a lucky lion he was. Not left to starve to death and still mobile in the aftermath.

"Not too long," Korini replied. Bisra clambered up her back leg and she managed to avoid wincing at the sharp claws that poked through her fur. Her coat was just now starting to regain its former glory, coming in thick, like it had been back home.

Bisra settled himself on the bundle of fur atop Korini's head, peering at Rae. "But we plan to stay. Korini is a guard, so don't try anything funny. Or else."

"He's only joking," Korini offered swiftly.

In truth, it had only been a branch that had landed on his leg, a rock had taken most of the weight of the tree. But it made him sound stronger saying the whole tree fell on him. Only one other lion new the truth, so he could say whatever he wanted.

He laughed, not because he thought she couldn't do it, but more because the little hare was acting all tough. "I don't plan to!" he said with a sort of nod. "I'm just a hunter, so no plans on any funny business." He said with a smile.

"Your leg is going to recover, then?" As soon the words were out of her mouth, Korini felt a bit stupid for having asked. The king and queen wouldn't allow a cripple the role of hunter, would they? It would just be discouraging, fruitless, and cruel. She felt a second-hand embarrassment imaging a lion wobble after prey with only three properly functioning legs.

All four of Bisra's legs were fine. He leaped from his perch and back to the ground, standing tall at his mother's side. Kirala smiled at her son out of habit, then she said kindly to Rae, "You're a lucky one."

He felt a little nervous and gave a slight chuckle. "It wasn't as bad as it sounded." he insisted. "The cold was worse than the tree." He had indeed been lucky, but that wasn't really something to ponder on. "It'll heal, it's only spranged, I think." He could move it, after all. It was just very painful in certain places.

He was told none of the bones were out of place, and it felt fine. So he could only go with what someone had told him. "No worries here." He said with a nod. "It's just sore." He moved it a bit to show them, though a look of pain crossed over his face as he did so. He tried to hide it, but the wince came all the same. "Just not able to do things until it stops hurting." Which he didn't like. He hated being useless.

"So, enough about me, what do you do all day when you don't need to watch the grounds?"

Sorry for slowness!

Oh. Uh.

Um.

This round of embarrassment was all on her. Truth be told, Korini did little but work, due entirely to lack of other options. She took her duties here seriously. You wouldn't find her sleeping on the job, no sir. But... She could have used more of a social life too, and felt a bit abashed to realize this. So she did what most do when in situations like this: she told a white lie.

"The usual," Korini replied. "I spend time with the pride members. That sort of thing. Lots of chatter going on given it's avalanche season."

Bisra peered at his mother curiously. He sure hadn't seen Korini chitchatting as of late.

Kirala shrugged in response. Though Korini was with them often, she wasn't with them always. Seemed plausible to her she'd made a friend or two at some point.

Apologize not! I am worse. @o@

He nodded at her with agreement. He had heard some bits and pieces of avalanches lately. He wasn't sure exactly what one was, but he was sure he wouldn't like them, and was more than sure he'd find out sooner or later. "Yeah, it seems like the gossip of the pride lately, doesn't it?" He can't say for sure if it had been all they talked about with him being newer to the pride, and not really having much to talk about to others. He was getting there though.

His leg did bring up some good conversation, sometimes. "I'm not interrupting your work, am I?" he just realized that maybe she had something more important to do than sit here and talk to a gimp like him. Of course, he didn't really mind the chat, but she might.

Let me know if you're up for a second run-in with them. =]

Mind it? No. The problem was she was floundering and having an escape route waved in her face was too tempting to pass up. She prayed neither hare would argue, and was grateful when they didn't. "Actually, we probably should get back to work. You can't be too careful these days."

Korini took a meaningful step back, the kind someone would before they turn. A clear signal she planned to depart. "I'll see you around."

I'm up for them anytime!

He nodded at her. It was true, there was never a time you couldn't be too careful. Though he was enjoying their conversation, even if it felt kinda awkward a bit. Rae smiled at her. "Until next time. " He gave her a little bow, not sure exactly why, but did it anyways and started on his own way. He didn't stop to wait for her to leave, as she was busy he was sure. He limped off in the direction he had been heading before he ran into her. Nothing really to do, for the moment.
