Achik liked the Tale. It had few features, but that made flying over it interesting and surprising, and made finding the forests a treat. He stole into the settlement of Yware, darting among the trees and huts, avoiding the people for the time being. His goal was water- he was thirsty. His other goal was, of course, pranks, but he had already played a few good ones with the wild Kinfa around, and had a few feathers as trophies. Shed ones, of course, barely more than down taken from a nest. The little kinfa had appreciated Achik's tricks, though their mother hadn't been happy about his presence. In fact, she had tried to eat him. But, considering he'd gotten away safely, Achik was a good sport about it. He didn't even mind. He'd visit those chicks again. Later. When he had something to bring them and mom wasn't home. Actually... He poked his head above the huts... maybe he could find something interesting here for them? He landed at a window, smelling water inside. He would have to be careful. It was a twoleg dwelling.

Nyiim was enjoying a well-deserved nap after a day of busy scavenging. Bosede lay nearby, his head resting atop a discarded skin and not much else. It was warm, too warm to cuddle his companion. It was the raptrix that lay awake, his eyes half-cocked until he saw something small and reddish land upon their railing. A growl rumbled in his chest, low and threatening and jut enough to wake Nyiim. The Leaf boy opened one eye and sighed.
"Hey. Stop that." But the raptrix's eyes were trained on something, and he sat slowly to see. He woke immediately upon spying a creature that he had only heard about. He dared not make any sudden movements.
"Hel-lo~"
Having done his duty, Bosede looked to Nyiim and began to pant. He did good, right?! He had a bowl of water just a few feet away, while the rest of the pair's skins lay hidden at the far end of Nyiim's mattress.

Achik didn't like growling things, not when he hadn't expected the growling things. Fortunately, the little sprite was a stranger to fear and instead of flying away, he darted in to scold, confident that his wings could carry him away. "!!!" he chittered and chimed at the Raptrix. Silly bitey thing. No growling! He flew a bit higher when he noticed the twoleg, momentarily surprised, stopping in his chittering to stare. He hadn't seen a twoleg this close at hand before. He could see the water he had come for, glittering temptingly in a bowl on the ground, and the sprite found himself at an impass- edge closer to the water, or closer to the window he had come from? Achik chose neither. Instead, he held out one of the kinfa feathers he had found, moving it up and down in a way he had always found distracting- all the little downy bits moved with it. Maybe it would distract them too!

Bosede lifted his head again, just watching. If the Thing became an issue, he could easily eat the Thing. The fluffy thing, though... was that dangerous?!
Nyiim arched a brow, watching the feather for a moment before focusing on the little creature itself.
"What are you up to...?" Really, if it would just talk or pantomime, he could help it out. Right now it seemed to be... well, not offering the feather, that was for sure. Was it... performing some ritual? trying to bribe them?

Achik chirped again, pleased. His distraction was working. He was so clever! He shook the feather again, crooning and inching it closer until, suddenly, he tickled Bosede's nose and then quickly, with a powerfull flurry of wings, darted out of range. The Sprite headed towards the ceiling, and then hovered to observe the response. Well, what now?

Bosede sneezed rather violently, and then turned his eyes up to look at the sprite. He growled quietly and his tail swayed, every ounce of body language displaying unsureness and hesitation. Maybe the Thing did want to cause trouble? If it came back again, he'd have to try and get it.
Nyiim, on the other hand, had done less planning. He still didn't know what the creature was, but he'd like to find out. It clearly was looking to get something out of them, but he wasn't sure what. At the very least, he was more interested than annoyed.
"What is it you want?" he asked, also peering up at the fluttering being, "Can you understand me?"

Clearly the bitey thing hadn't liked being tickled wit the feather, and the bitey thing had teeth. He chittered a bit. Well, maybe it hadn't been happy about losing it! So clearly... Achik dropped the feather on the Raptrix's head before going for the water bowl... which was a bit too heavy for the little sprite as he tried to carry it off. Why? It was a lot of water and he wanted it. And the bowl. He liked the bowl. It was a bit big but it held water! It didn't occur to the sprite that he could actually try to make a water container himself, though it was beginning to. After some trying, he gave up, darting back out of range and pointing down. That. He wanted that.

Bosede looked up and watched the feather drift softly out of his vision, and was apparently unaware that its disappearance was due to it behind on his head. Now further feathered, the raptrix began to whack his paws against the floor and grumble softly. That was his water! Not that the Thing was getting very far.
Nyiim had a similar reaction, although he was able to verbally express it.
"Hey..." It was trying to steal Bosede's water bowl? He could spare some water, but not a bowl! Once the pottery was no longer in danger, Nyiim nodded quickly and leaned back behind his bed. "We can do that!"
He wanted the little sprite to stay around a while longer. He had never seen one before, and certainly not one this colorful! The boy lifted a water skin, far too large for the creature to fly off with, and considered it for a moment.
"Come with me a minute. We'll find you something. As it was, the diameter of the water skin's neck would probably drown the poor thing. Nyiim stood and motioned for the sprite to follow as he headed down the stairs, and Bosede took the cue, rising and watching, confused, as the feather floated to the ground. Where in the world had tat come from...?

Why was he motioning? Did he have more water? Not just this bowl? Come to think of it, Achik realized the bowl smelled of spit. He didn't want to drink spit. He bet it was from the bitey thing. He scolded the big bitey thing as he followed nyiim. It shouldn't drool in water, and it shouldn't lose gifts!
Scolding done, it flew by Nyiim's shoulder, curiously chiming before remembering that he was supposed to be cautious and darting back a few feet. What was the twoleg up to?

Nyiim smiled up at the sprite as he continued down Bosede's stairs, the raptrix close behind and watching the Thing closely. It didn't seem like it would be able to hurt his Earthling, at least, but it seemed to think that it could scold him into listening? Silly Things, only his Earthling could tell him what to do!
Meanwhile, the group moved over to the treeline beside the central hub of the settlement. There had been a celebration recently for the marriage of Enu's sister, and he remembered having seen quite a few accounts of cheap pottery and inebriation. Gegenrally, that combination only led to one thing. Hopefully nobody had felt the need to clean up.
Now the question was, could the little creature actually understand him?
"Look for little pieces of clay. There were bowls here not long ago, and small, um..." he motioned a small distance between his fingers, "... small... glasses? Made for strong alcohol." Hopefully the little sprite was able to heft small pieces of clay. otherwise he might have to go dive into the pond which was full of beasts able to gulp down such a little, fluttering thing. Nyiim crouched around the fire pit, raking his fingers through the sand for any sign of solid object.
Unfortunately, it seemed as if there had either been less pottery-smashing that he had imagined, or else whatever had scavenged through the fire pit had scattered the shards. He sighed, giving a soft huff, and then turned. There was still a bit of firewood remaining, uncharred. He grabbed the thick stick and broke off the charcoal, then pointing back up to his home.
"Back up. We'll make you something special." of course, he was no artisan, but crude carving was not beyond him.

Little pieces of clay? Why? Were they fun to throw? To make? Was there water with the clay? Achik landed and kicked at the piles of stuff inquisitively. Well, there were little bits of clay, but they weren't that useful! Cept for throwing! He threw a few, trying to see if the bitey thing would chase the pottery bits. The bitey thing was silly, so maybe he would.
But then the twoleg stopped looking for clay bits and wanted him to come with them? Well they had water and were interesting, so... Achik guessed he would.
He chirped inquisitively. Make? Something special? Achik had never seen anything special made before! That would be special indeed!
Achik wanted to see! He did, he did! He fluttered just out of grabbing distance of Nyiim. For a few seconds he fluttered backward, part showing off, part chittering questions that would never be understood, before he flipped back to forward flying so that he wouldn't run into something.

Bosede was initially disinterested with the debris that the Thing was throwing. It was an annoying little Thing, and he assumed that sometimes they just threw stuff. When it became clear that the Thing wasn't trying to harm anyone, though, he grew curious with what it was that was being scavenged. The raptrix wandered slowly toward each landing spot, sniffing the ground before turning to inspect the next. Maybe the Thing wasn't so bad after all.
Nyiim grinned when the sprite seemed so excited and began back toward his hut, stirring Bosede to follow. While the raptrix took the stairs back up, Nyiim took to the ladder, the branch clutched between his teeth as he climbed. When he reached the platform, he dug into a bag at the end of his bed and removed...
... a knife!
It was a big knife indeed, clearly worn and recently sharpened. Luckily, Nyiim simply hacked away at the branch around its circumference and snapped off a small length. That being done, he removed a smaller knife and began to hollow the small section of wood. His goal was to create a tiny cup that the little creature could take with it. Earthlings had water skins so they didn't have to constantly travel to the rivers and streams, so why not give one to something small and interesting? With any luck it would come back in the future and he could learn more about it. He'd bet Niadra would know what it was.
Slowly the cup began to take form, about as wide as his first knuckle was long. It was fairly deep, but he was trying to whittle the walls down as thin as possible to save the sprite the trouble of a heavy cup with heavy water inside.

Silly bitey thing. As fun as expected, though Achik decided against picking up the same pieces. They were probably all drooly, and drooly things were... drooly. And they didn't throw so well. Achik's eyes widened and with a chirp he flew a bit further away at the sight of the sharp object. He didn't need to have been attacked with a knife to know something sharp and clawlike when he saw it, and he didnt want to get cut up. A little wariness kept the mischevious creature alive, despite his recklessness.
Even wary of the knife, what Nyiim was doing with it was facinating. He was using it to claw at the wood and make it into something. But what? What was he making? Achik fluttered cautiously closer. It looked hollow, like an empty shell. Was it a bauble? A thing to blow on to make sounds? Just a thing? Achik wanted to tap it and see what it did, but the knife was still there, and, upon noticing it, he retreated again. He looked at the Raptrix for a moment, bored temporarily with the carving. It was so fluffy. Achik wanted to stick his hands in the fur... But how?

Nyiim only smiled when the sprite approached, trying to be reassuring. If his knife scared the beast off, he would certainly have no use for what remained.
Bosede, however, was wholly engrossed in chewing on the remaining wood. it was a stick, but a good thick stick, and usually those went to more important uses than chewing. This one, though... his Earthling hadn't scolded him when he'd taken it at least!

Achik watched Bosede gnaw at the wood. That looked boring. So, Achik decided to make things interesting. After all, the carving would be interesting again in a little bit, he was sure, but for now... there was floofy fur. He fluttered up to inspect Bosede, and then went behind the Raptrix's head and pushed at the fur. Ooo! There was a lot of it! He could almost make his hand sink into it. He pushed again then let the fur spring back. Hehehe! He chimed in amusement. He could play with this fur all day, if the bitey thing would let him. Actually... He stuck his face in, and then quickly retreated, sneezing. It was all musty and smelled of animal, but it was as fluffy and comfy as Achik had hoped. He leaned to the side to see what the bitey thing was doing- was it still occupied with the stick? Then, with a gleeful grin on his little face, Achik began fluffing Bosede's fur.
