The young mare was bored. Looking at her cave walls day in and day out were beginning to make her father worry. She liked being a loner, but her father was worried more about her mental and social health, so upon his request she was getting out more each day. Today was another day of beauty even though she didn’t see too much beauty in it. She preferred nighttime over the day and preferred staring up at the stars wondering what else was out there. She would visit graves and say her prayers before returning home. That is what she is and who she is. She was trying to change that with each passing day, but was ending up being more like her father. This didn’t trouble her and she would rather be more like him.
“Spirits where will you lead me today?” She spoke softly as she left her home and soon enough was far away from the herd lands. She was doing her daily routine of speaking to what she thought were the spirits around her, but there was nothing there except the gentle sounds of the wind sweeping through the treetops. The forest was quiet and she loves spending hours just exploring and seeing what there was to see. She wasn’t meant to stay dormant her whole life even though it’s what her family wanted for her.
Smiling slightly, she remembered the countless hours she spent as a foal chasing fireflies thinking they were tiny little spirits. She wanted to put them in her cousin Gabriel’s lantern to cheer up his soul, but then something left her when she grew up. That cheerfulness in her seemed to pass once she reached adulthood and she didn’t understand why. Was it because she didn’t want to do her duty or obligation to the family? Was it because she felt there was something more out there for her? She might never have an answer for herself, but only hoped something could spark her inner soul again.
With her thoughts clouding her mind and judgment, she turned off the path going the wrong way. A way she never went before, but she was in too much of a daze to realize that she was going to be lost.

After his not so grand 'escape' it had been quiet..days spent traveling to see a world he had only ever dreamed about. To travel far from the herd he had once called home..toting a few wrapped hides filled with his creations and 'goods' for sale. Stretching carefully Mikasi'Nell spotted a large shady tree near a well worn path..that is were the stallion bedded down. His song bird familiar flitted about, curiously chirping. "I know..you miss home but, this is our life now. Do not worry. Why don't we trade a few things to whomever passes by?" Rolling out the soft rabbit pelts, bones, bone beads and small bundles of berries. Some for eating an others for use in 'paint'..to decorate the body. Now the stallion just had to wait for someone to pass by.

Shaking her head, the mare paused and looked around not seeing anything that looked familiar. She didn’t panic nor did she start to get frantic. She looked for the path, but saw none making her sigh. This wasn’t the only time she got lost so she didn’t take it to heart and simply continued on. There wasn’t any harm in finding new places out here in the forest right? Walking further on, she spotted a stallion in the distance making her hesitant at first, but this didn’t stop her from walking. She wasn’t afraid of anything and took on her problems head on. As she stepped closer to the other, she stopped examining his features and then noticed he was well equipped to kill her.
Still unfazed by his claws and paws, she noticed he had various things there on the ground making her tilt her head. She noticed some sage and lavender, which she loved to put on graves at night. “Hello.” She acknowledged him softly before something clicked in her head. “Are you a harpy?” It was forbidden to even go near one, but she never understood why. They seemed harmless enough.

Perking up at the sound of hoof falls and, then a voice the male offered a sharp toothed smile. "Hello Miss.." He had to stop himself from saying mistress..old habits are hard to stop. "My mother is a harpy..my father a pawed mutant. So I suppose yes is a proper answer?" Flitting about Rain's Song chirped a soft greeting to the mare. "Might I interest you in some of my wares? They are up for trade.." Now it was business..though he took a bit of pleasure in having company. It felt amazing to speak freely..to run wild as his wolf side so desperately desired. Chasing scents without a care for 'boundaries' or the end of territory. Nothing would hold Mikasi' Nell back now.

Astraea listened to him speak about his family and would heave to remember that in case the two of them ever met again. “That sounds interesting…the most we have in my family are kalona’s.” She told him with a firm nod eyeing the stuff laid out once again. “I do not hate harpies like most seem to or mutants, I find all breeds to be interesting and beautiful in their own way.” She told the stallion and realized that some of what Nidawi use to say seemed to rub off on her. Her sister didn’t hate anyone either. His question then tore her from her thoughts making her blink up at him. “Wares?” She was confused and never once been asked to ‘buy’ something.
“As in buy something or trade you something?” She thought and gave a small sigh. “I am not carrying anything to trade with you.” She honestly didn’t know what she could offer him and most of what she had was back home in her cave. She had a tendency to collect random things along her travels and then stashed them away.

Frowning ever so slightly he thought over the predicament..eyes closing he eventually spoke up. "Well..what did you have your eye on?" Nosing things around he smiled up at Rain from her perch atop his head. The bird's gentle preening of his feathers reminded the stallion of home. "You could pay me with your company..I have travelled a long way with only my little friend for company. Tell me miss..would that be agreeable?" Pawed feet flexing..Mikasi' Nell scented a passing breeze. Excited when he noted a little prey type creature nearby..maybe she would let him enjoy a meal before partaking of her company. "Ah yes how rude of me...my name is Mikasi' Nell."

Watching him carefully and listening attentively, the young mare spotted the songbird resting on his head making her smile slightly. “That is a pretty friend you have there.” She told him honestly as her expression went right back to her stoic emotionless one. “By the way..hello to you too.” She eyed the bird giving it a slight nod of recognition before finally focusing on the stallion before her. “I had my eyes on your sage and lavender. I use it to lay at graves or sometimes even burn for the dead.” She said softly to the other eyeing his wares once again. She had to think about this since having company near her for awhile wasn’t something she was use to nor was it something that made her comfortable. Yet, this stallion was an interesting one at least. Maybe she could spend a little time outside of her muck of a cave.
“I think…I think I will take you up on your offer. There is no harm in me spending time outside of my home.” She gave him a nod before noticing his eyes drift to something running about, probably a small rodent. She wasn’t an idiot and knew what that meant. “If you are hungry you can go eat. Everything needs food to survive.” With that, she rested herself beside a rock, near the things he had laid out. If she was going to stay there for awhile then she was going to make herself comfortable. “My name is Astraea. It’s nice to meet you. Is there a nickname you would prefer?” She asked.

Pleased that she was so..perceptive Mikasi' Nell spoke softly to his companion. "Rain..rest here with miss Astraea. I will return shortly..and you may call me Mikasi if you please." Bowing a bit the stallion moved to his feet..stretching. Listening as the forest grew still..as animals hushed their young at the scent of a predator. As they ran to hide..smiling slowly the male vanished within the trees and brush in a burst of speed. It was a quick hunt, the creatures pain lasting but a moment. "Thank you for your life small one. To nourish my own..and give me fuel to live on.." Digging into the sweet tender rabbit's flesh, pleased rumbling growls escaped. Blood stained the once pure white coat with vibrant red. Carnal..pleasurable. He savored every last morsel, only pausing to expertly skin the creature and pick out it's bones. The marrow would make a good snack when his hunger came again. Pausing at a stream Mikasi'Nell bathed the little fur pelt..drank and washed his muzzle clean of blood. Only then did the stallion return to the path, Rain's greeting caused a jovial grin. "Let's pack up little one, then we will explore with miss Astraea!" Keeping the sage and lavender out, the song bird delicately flickered over to the mare. Expertly tucking the herbs behind her ears..settling rather comfortably upon the stranger's head. "Silly bird.."

The young mare watched the stallion wander off to hunt and even though she knew he was going to kill the poor animal, she knew it was for a good cause. It was a cycle and life had to be taken in order for other life to live on. It was how the world went. “I never had a companion before not even a little bird such as yourself.” She spoke softly to the songbird that was left behind. Even though it couldn’t talk back, she felt comfort when speaking to it. She soon rested her head on the rock she was leaning against and closed her eyes. It felt like only a moment before the bird began to chirp causing the mare to lift her head up and gaze at the stallion walking back towards them.
Hearing something about adventure made her rise to her feet and smile to the stallion. “It’s the least I can do since you so kindly gave me those herbs for free.” She told him with a nod before feeling the bird tuck them behind her ears. “Thank you…umm..does your little bird friend have a name?” She asked joining Mikasi at his side wondering where they were going to go, but having a small idea. “I ‘m not familiar with the customs of a harpy or even a pawed Soquili…but I was wondering if you have been around these parts before? If not I can be like a guide and we can see new things together?” She felt like she was needed again and boy was it a good feeling. It was the same feeling she use to have when she was a foal and she only hoped it would grow even more.

Noddin he smiled at the bird "Her name is Rain's Song. Because I found her as a small hatchling trying to sing beneath her nest..trying to get attention." She was a precious little friend, always by his side even when he'd left their home. The male felt stupid..naive to the world like a newborn colt. "I've never been away from my old homes territory. I escaped just one long week ago with my sister..for freedom..freedom my spirit so desperately seeks. Everything is new to me. That would be lovely.." Mikasi'Nell felt a bit wary to speak of his old herd..he still loved them but, knew he could never return. Never see them again. His heart ached and pain flickered to life within his eyes. "Please lead the way..I will dutifully follow your leading."

The young mare listened attentively before turning away and looking onward into the distance. "Rain's Song is a very suiting name." She gave a small nod to is comments before walking slowly away from the place they were just at. She couldn't believe he had never really traveled out in the world and now wondered if the flock really was cruel or just protective. She would never know that answer since it was something she would never seek out and never ever ask about unless he decided to tell her. "There is so much to see in the world and you should take time to experience it. Staying in one place too long can be a little boring at times. If that is truly what your old home was like, I'm shock more don't go insane from it." She said softly to him as she wandered back onto the road she traveled when daily. It felt good to be seeing something she remembered.
"I travel on this road every day. It's kind of like the thing I like to do." She told him perking up her ears to the silent sounds of the forest. It was almost so quiet down this road. "So, tell me about your family? If you don't want to I understand. I am just use to people talking and me listening." She never use to outwardly talk like this and if it wasn't for her father as well as Alestra, it wouldn't be happening. "You will be meeting a lot of other Soquili now and making friends. I'm sure that is exciting for you?" She asked slowing her pace only slightly so that she could remain beside him.

Mikasi' Nell colored a bit and coughed lightly as he followed her along. The question of his family left the male uneasy. Still he spoke. "Mares are..in charge. They are a proud herd..smart and cunning..it's a nice place..but, my wolf spirit cried out for freedom. The need to escape was great. My father is a mutant wolf pawed stallion with a tail like mine. A good male..he gave up his own wolf spirit for my mother..she's colored like a proud peacock. Fierce an loving..I also have two sisters..one who escaped with me and one who helped us but, stayed behind. There are many extended family members but, I never knew them that well.." The question of friends had him pausing more fully, eyes flickering to the blue sky above. "Yes. I want to know all about friendship and love..about the world I only caught glimpses of." He felt grateful to her, for not fearing him because of his strange looks. For willingly showing him the world.

Astraea almost felt a little sad for the stallion since he literally had no one. His whole entire family was in that herd and the decided his freedom was more important. There was nothing wrong with that, but she felt the need to comfort him in some way. It wasn’t one of her strong suits so she remained silent for a good few moments before speaking. “They sound like a wonderful family. Very different, yet they came together to form a strong bond. Though I am sorry that you had to make such a hard decision to where it left you completely…alone. Though you did say your sister left as well right? I’m sure you are happy to at least know you will be able to spend time with her.” She nodded keeping at his side and wondering if she could ever make such a tough decision such as that.
“So you will never be able to see them again?” She asked as they continued on, but soon enough she paused. She looked off the side of the road and peered at a moss covered stone that had some faint etching in the parts that you could see. “Well the world is vast, but I’m going to show you what I can. If you ever grow bored let me know.” She spoke softly to him before bowing a little at he stone and saying a small prayer. It was normal for her, but she knew Mika would probably find all this a little odd. “My father use to take me to this spot every day when I was a foal. I wondered why for the longest time until I was old enough to understand. He told me it’s a grave of a Soquili that has passed on. I sometimes wish I had his powers, but then again I don’t think I would want them.” She told him with a sigh glancing to him. “Your not freaked out or anything right?” She was use to others finding her ways very strange. They honored the dead and said prayers to spirits. She would think it odd herself if she wasn’t in her crazy family.

Shaking his head a bit sadly the male continue onward silently until they were paused once more. Her prayer made him feel oddly at home, it was something his father did, albeit very quietly whenever he killed to fill his stomach. A small murmur of thanks..and respect for life given to help his own. "Not at all..my father taught us to respect the spirits..to thank them for the life they give to us when we have to end their own. To not waste or kill for no reason and, to always listen to our inner spirit for guidance in all things." Smiling he let his eyes close momentarily..head dipping low to the stone.
