Hospitality

A roleplay between Jin-Ho Kyon and his Plague, Blaithe, Doctor Amory Kempe, and Rene, the lavender stunted. The time is early evening, the place is Doctor Kempe's office, and the weather is a light drizzle that began shortly after sunset. Doctor Kempe and Jin-Ho are concluding several months' worth of sessions regarding the loss of his arm and his recent erratic moods, and discussing what the next step for Jin-Ho and Blaithe will be after the termination of the therapy sessions.

Amory Kempe was not taking notes for this last session with Jin-Ho. Not even Rene was, usually his loyal (if not flamboyant and highly opinionated) aide. Though the therapy sessions that Jin-Ho had been somewhat pressured into undertaking had been long and sometimes grueling for all parties involved, and the copious records Amory had gained from them would certainly make a tedious case study for some tired student of his to read later, this last meeting was at least intended to be a parting in friendship. Amory certainly had high hopes for Jin-Ho, or at least an endless reserve of natural optimism. He had considered it to be a good sign that Jin-Ho had remained in his sessions even after the disastrous meeting that the Council had unwittingly convened in Aureola. The fact that the Grand Magus had not seen fit to remove him was at least a sign that she still trusted in the work of the Council, if not necessarily their political motives. Jin-Ho's well being had, unfortunately, become more than just a matter of ensuring that a ranking ally could perform his job, but had become one of the valuable and tenuous positive links the Council had remaining to the Fellowship.

He had all this in mind as he met with Jin-Ho, but nothing could be seen on his face or in his manner but the usual easygoing camaraderie that tended to unnerve so many of his more reclusive, better-bred peers.

"Well, Mr. Kyon!" he exclaimed. "All things must come to an end, good or bad, and I think that you've improved sufficiently to leave Gadu if you wish. I know you've been eager to return to your life as of late, and I see nothing that would stop me from recommending that to you as a healthy course of action." He looked up at Jin-Ho. "Of course, I will have to send a report to Grand Magus Estratus, but I am confident she will be pleased with what I have to say. You've come a long way, Mr. Kyon."

Rene snapped his fingers and applause came from all sorts of nooks and crannies in the office, but Amory raised his hand. "Perhaps not the best way to show how proud we are, Rene." The lavender stunted seemed offended, but reluctantly watched as Amory reached into his desk and pulled out his own personal gesture. When he showed it to Jin-Ho, though, it was nothing more than a book- somewhat poorly made, but plain and functional. "I would like you to keep a daily journal, if possible. Obviously, I can't force you, and since nobody expects me to continue meeting with you after tonight, nobody can force me to force you, even. But if you feel like you're losing control or like you're stressed, it may help to compose your thoughts." He smiled, and added, "Of course, I also have a sachet of lavender to give you." Dr. Kempe filled his pockets and office with lavender, which was soothing for patients, and perhaps too soothing for his exhausted students.

"Even though neither the Council nor the Fellowship will expect it after the end of this session, I want you to know, Mr. Kyon, that my door is always open for you if you need to talk."

It had, indeed, been a difficult few months; different from his time after the attack in Northern base, forced to remain stationary despite the crumbling security of its halls. Kempe’s sessions, while often erratic in terms of how Jin-Ho would feel after each, certainly kept him in line and he had definitely improved in his behaviors. His fuse had increased, simple things no longer setting him off in fits of rage – at least now he knew relatively well how to control it. Things were settling, and while relations with Sage and Sloane were on the rocky side everything was looking a bit clearer.

He knew the time was coming for these sessions to end, The Fellowship kind enough to provide the means for these services by association, yet somehow it seemed so sudden all the same. Jin-Ho watched as Amory gave his spiel, allowing him to roll through his seemingly practiced speech while offering nods or sounds of acceptance throughout. It wasn’t until Rene’s gesture caused tiny, surrounding applause from every direction that he looked away, scoffing with a subdued smile before reaching up and running his hand through what bit of his hair was loose. ”Thank you, Doctor Kempe…” Voice low and humbled, he stood from his chair. When the book was pulled out, he eyed it questioningly and even before he could ask, Amory gave answer.

Blaithe, sitting a few inches away from Rene, watched her Grimm and his ‘mentor,’ as she tended to call him, exchange their passing pleasantries and gifts with full curiosity. Part of her wondered if Jin-Ho would allow her to use that journal but she knew better than to ask. Instead, she turned her attention to Rene, her smile faltering. ”So I guess this is it, huh?” she asked, voice torn between happiness for the well-being of her Grimm and disappointment, near sadness, that she wouldn’t see her new friends anymore.

Far less amused, Hero sat just behind Blaithe; arms crossed and the pads of his feet touching. He wasn’t fond of Rene or his ‘charm’ that his companion seemed so enamored with, nor did he like spending so much time around all of these other stunted. He was fine with Amory and Jin-Ho, humans never having bothered him, but there were too many other males of their kind around; males much larger than Blaithe. With a huff, he rested his elbow against his knee, chin in his palm.

Accepting the satchel, Jin-Ho hoisted it once, allowing the bag to fall in his hand with a raised brow. Perhaps Min-Ho or their mother would enjoy them; he had little need or use for flowers but he couldn’t deny that they smelled nice. Looking back to Amory he attempted a more genuine, natural smile. ”You’ve done much for me and I truly appreciate it. While I may not be a client after this day, I’m sure I’ll see you again sometime.”

Rene looked sympathetically at Blaithe, just as he did at any female who seemed even slightly possibly on the verge of being distressed. "Now, fair lady!" he remarked in his most genteel tone of voice, "So long as two people want to meet again, there is no such thing as it. Why, just listen to your Grimm! We will meet each other again, in a different time, in a different place." Then, because he was not just a courtly gentleman, but also Amory's personal secretary, he conscientiously added, "If Dr. Kempe's schedule permits it, of course."

"Actually," Amory interrupted, "Mr. Kyon, I've been worried about Blaithe. You've progressed well, but I feel that perhaps it might be better if she could stay with us safely while you visit your family. You said Plagues made them uneasy, and I'd rather you take a sojourn in a healthy, peaceful environment than a stressful one immediately after you leave." He smiled apologetically. "I can promise that she would be well looked after if you choose to do so."

Rene seemed taken with the idea. "I would be sure to look after Miss Blaithe myself!" he declared. "These boorish Councilmen are easily distracted by work, but I never neglect a lady."

"Yes, I thought you might like that proposition," murmured Amory with some amusement.

While her first instinct was to smile, it quickly dissipated as Blaithe turned her head to look at Amory, somewhat startled by the sudden invitation. Between Jin Ho and Dr. Kempe, she couldn’t figure out who to keep her gaze on. Sure, she would surely enjoy the time with all of these stunteds, much like she had while with Sloane, but almost as soon as it was said a cold fear churned in her gut.

Jin Ho, catching her anticipation, furrowed his brows before glancing back toward Dr. Kempe, doing his best to return his expression into that of neutrality. ”Aah… While it is a kind offer, I’m not sure…” he said, glancing back down at Blaithe on the table. He had no idea about her fears of abandonment, having been kept in the dark about such feelings. He remembered that she had been caught off guard with her sudden stay with Sloane, but for one they knew each other on different terms than this group did, and though he could trust her with the doctor and his companions something about it didn’t sit right.

”Yes, my father isn’t fond of Plagues but… I would feel better keeping her with me. Perhaps another time?” he offered, hoping that maybe it would pacify the idea. Blaithe visibly calmed and so did Hero, who had nearly bristled at the mere idea – partially because the offer wasn’t extended to him as well as Blaithe.

The small girl offered an apologetic smile at Rene as well, extending her hands toward him. ”If Jin Ho says we will visit again I’m sure it will happen…” she promised, glowing a bit brighter than she had moments ago.
