Who: Alex, Cesc, Jezabroux, Luka, Shep and Vivi.
When: In the vicinity of 5am.
        Where: In Lab 305.

Adrenaline kept her uncomfortably warm as she practically ran through the foyer of the Lab, her fear and her need to stay calm clashing for dominance. Vivi's scared voice this early in the morning had shaken out all the sleep from her, and as Alex unlocked her office and flipped on the lights, she felt the grim awareness that it was not the first - nor last - time she'd be awakened by a scared Guardian with a damaged Raevan at the root of it.

Alex shook her head to herself and she quickly slid made the hospital-like bed ready for the injured Frei, gathering the anti-biotics, antiseptics, the pain killers and a healthy amount of butterfly bandages. Lulu's visit had prepared her for the worst in terms of blood injuries and, with a quick glimpse to her laptop that already had the Raevan's files pulled up, she jogged out of the room and across the hallway to the closet to pull out one of the emergency lights in case the power failed. Hooking it up in a few seconds and turning the blaring light on in the room, she rubbed her hands together and trotted out to the waiting room, knowing it would be seconds before they came in.

Ignoring the fact that she was still wearing her Nightmare Before Christmas pj bottoms and a sports bra - it's what was available to her that early in the morning and it wasn't a fashion show - she stood solidly still in her sandals, pushing her hastily made ponytail over her shoulder, a smile absent from her features. Alex was prepared for the worst, and she hated that she could say that.

Rhedefre sat quietly beside Luka in Shepard's truck, his golden eyes fixed on the satyr. One of his hands was always on Luka, since they left the bakery; on his head, smoothing his hair, on his arm, soothing. It had been silent the whole ride to the Lab -- not that it was a long one -- with only the sounds of the motor cutting into the quietness of the early-morning hours. Shepard drove quickly but without panic, his brows furrowed and his eyes dark. Now and then he darted a look at the injured frei, but when his eyes would catch Cesc's, he'd offer a faint smile, quickly placed and quickly gone, but reassuring all the same.

The truck pulled into the Lab parking lot and Shepard could see they were the first to arrive -- he recognized Alex's truck, and other than that the lot was empty.

The quietness was almost overwhelming as Shepard cut off the motor and opened the door, gathering Luka in his arms as gently and quickly as he could. Cesc said nothing, opening the door on his side and following, pulling the Lab door open for Shepard and Luka to go through. The frei looked grave and worried, and the calmness that usually surrounded him was dim and thin.

Luka's eye -- was he blinded? How deep was the gash? It was still oozing, even now, and parts of it were inflamed and red, and there was still dirt and ink, so much of it, all over... it couldn't be good for him, for that wound that would surely scar.

Alex would make things better, Rhedefre thought, pushing the worry from his mind. What Luka needs is medical attention and some answers regarding the severity of the wound. Everything else is just worry. Just speculation.

"Lexie --" Shepard said as he entered, his steps swift. Usually their meetings would be marked with at least a hug and the broadest of smiles, (especially considering the getup the woman currently wore.) But this time there was no room for pleasantries, not even for a smile. Shepard's frown only deepened with concern as he finally saw her. "Where can I put him?"

Luka was quiet as Shepard moved him from the car to inside the building. And although the Frei could see perfectly out of his good eye, he was still having trouble maintaining awareness of his surroundings. The bright lights, loud sounds, and changing environment was too much for the Satyr. He wanted to back in the forests, sleeping. He wanted to be away from all this.

Jezabroux's brow crinkled ever so gently. Had he just passed a red light? Red, yellow or green, none of that was important right now. While he was never a man to take traffic laws lightly, the call he had received this morning had sent him into a wordless speeding frenzy. Right now, the only thing on his mind was the current state of his charge. Traffic violation tickets could always be paid off but, there was no guarantee that Luka's problems could be solved so easily. Heaving a deep sigh, he acupuncturist continued his way down the still sleepy streets of Gambino.

It wasn't long before he finally reached the building of Lab 305. He'd never realized how imposing it was until today. Taking a deep breath, the bicolor haired man grabbed the cold handle and made his entrance into the building. He could still remember the day he had first met so clearly. Everything was so vivid, from the Frei's bright inquisitive eyes to him running into the glass door. Pushing his sunglasses higher up the bridge of his nose, he finally spotted several figures ahead.

"Shepard? Luka?" The man called out, uncertain. For all he knew, he could've been intruding on another meeting between a new raevan and guardian.

The sight of Shepard holding a bleeding Frei in his arms made the woman's heart sink. She would never have wished this on him -- on any Guardian -- having to bear witness to the side effects of the fel essence gone awry. It wasn't the first time Alex had been called in on such an instance, and even without knowing the details, she was anticipating being told there was an attack from a fellow Raevan. That seemed to be the only thing to bring them down, was each other.

"Shep," she replied with gentle acknowledgement, but she too understood the need for haste. She wanted to comfort them all - to ask if Vivi was okay - but she had to tend to her patient first. "First door on the left," she indicated even as she turned to make her way, "the bed is already laid out. Please put him there."

But she gave pause before heading in, letting Shep go in first and turning to look at Cesc. With a brief clench of jaw, she went to the dawn Frei and gave him a quick embrace, kissing his brow. "Are you okay?" She had to make sure, for personal and professional reasons. "And can you tell me what happened?" No use in wasting time -- while Shep was putting Luka on the bed, she could at least approach this with some knowledge instead of winging it the best she could like she had with LuLu and Lucia.

She had just started to lead Cesc towards her office when she heard a man's voice, vaguely familiar to her, turning her attention once more. A man--? "Ah," Alex exclaimed with recognition, "Luka is this way." She motioned for him to follow as she and Cesc entered her office, already feeling his chest constrict with the sheer amount of expectation to make this all better -- to offer justice and comfort and reassurance as she undoubtedly would be called upon to do. And once in the room, she was in motion, releasing Cesc so he might speak if he pleased and approaching Luka to observe his wound. She had to know what happened before she could treat it.

Shepard only nodded and walked through the indicated door. He did not let himself linger. The situation had unnerved him -- how could it not? -- but it wasn't a shattering experience, as far as he could tell. It reminded him of when he was a kid and broke his arm at a neighbour's house, how the neighbour dad had to take over the situation and drive him to the hospital. But Alex's expression seemed to indicate that there was something more to this, something that filled her with unhappiness.

Luka hadn't just fallen off the jungle gym, after all.

So he didn't linger. He went into the examining room and set Luka down lightly on the paper-wrapped bed. For a brief moment, he was alone with the frei, waiting for others to come in.

Shepard did what Cesc had done, kept nearby, one hand on Luka's shoulder, in silence. It seemed, for the moment, all he could do.

Outside, Rhedefre was relieved -- he was almost ashamed of the feeling -- to have Alex's embrace. It gave him something, a sort of strength that banished the quiet worry behind his eyes. Luka would be fine, wouldn't he? Regardless of the ugly gash over his face. Sighted with one eye or both.

"I am fine," he assured Alex with a very faint, restrained smile. "It was a shock for him -- he was camping -- there was another, a Lulu? Something occurred, I did not understand. But he was hungry and hurt for some hours when I came upon him. He is fed now."

Cesc said the last words with a nod, well-assured that he had done all that could for his fel-brother in that respect. As he heard Elai's voice, however, he turned quickly toward the sound, floating in the direction to greet the man.

"You are Elai?" he said, waving the man in.

Luka was quiet. He could feel a warm, strong hand on his shoulder but everything else was of little importance to him. And the longer the laid there, the more comfortable the bed was starting to become. It was firm enough to provide support, but not hard enough to feel like he was lying on a rock. Letting out a yawn, the Frei settled even more comfortably into the bed.

He knew something was going on, but it was so difficult to even want to pay attention right now.

Jezabroux walked briskly across the room to Alex's direction. She was a welcoming sight to see. The acupuncturist had not gotten to interact with the woman much but during the times he had, he'd gotten a very strong impression that she had her things together. He was also greeted by a rather pink... reindeer Frei? It seemed to be related to some kind of deer with the beginning of a rack start on his head.

"Yes, I am. Is Luka here? I received a call not long ago that Luka had been taken here after an injury. Is he alright? Could I see him?" He was firing off a barrage of questions, and he couldn't help it. He was anxious to see his charge and make sure that the boy was at least alive and breathing.

Alex smiled softly at Cesc, pausing by the doorway to again look out towards Jezabroux. "Please, it's fine, come in." She'd let the stag speak with the man, as it seemed to help settle him a little to talk about it and be of comfort. Glancing to Shep again, she quickly set about getting some anti-septic on some clean gauze, putting her free hand against Luka's cheek to get him to 'look' at her. "Luka, sweetie, this is going to sting. I need you to stay awake and tell me what happened if you can. Your Jezabroux is here, and you're going to be okay." She gave him an apologetic, tight smile before she began to press the gauze against his bloodied and split skin, attempting to clean the wound first so she could get a good look at it.

Lulu. Alex could not imagine what horror the rabbit was going to feel when she came back to her senses, especially since she had been the victim of a similar attack. Trying to keep her focus on the Frei, she was mindful of the pressure she used, doing what she could to clean the excess blood to determine if the head wound was a bleeding split or something more dangerous.

With the entrance of the frei's guardian and Alex, Shepard took a step back, allowing the vet to do her job. He flexed his hand and looked around the room quietly -- without an occupation, he felt more out of place than he had before, and wanted badly not to be audience to the moment. Let the boy get his medical attention, let his guardian provide the comfort. What if Luka wanted to talk about his ordeal? He felt comfortable enough around Cesc, but now Shepard felt himself to be an interloper.

Quietly, he excused himself from the room as Alex focused on Luka and Elai on Cesc.

"He will be well," promised the stag quietly, and he, too, moved aside to give Jezabroux the room he needed beside Luka. Unlike Shepard, Cesc did not want to leave -- he felt useless but still desired to stay by Luka's side, to see him made better by Alex's touch. He put his hands together and hovered, waiting on cues to see whether he should stay or duck out, as Shepard had done.
