Sophie paced in her room, fingers drumming on her lips. She might've chewed hew nails if they hadn't been beautifully painted a delicate shade of pink - the ring fingers decorated with a diamond pattern. This was it; the day had finally come and prom was upon them. She glanced at the dress model in the corner of her room; Bastion's outfit sitting perfectly on it. She wondered if it was okay; if he would find it acceptable enough to wear while he escorted her to prom. Would he hate it and refuse to go? Her pacing quickened.
Her own outfit hung in the closet in a protective bag; having been perfectly ironed. Her hair was in pigtails as per usual; only this time they had been curled tightly; bouncing as she stepped. She wore little makeup - a bit of mascara, a bit of lipgloss and a diamond mask painted on to her face; much like the pattern on her nails. She paused and made her way over to the desk, picking up on of the four roses that Bastion had so wonderfully left at her door for her to find. She'd found a makeshift vase, placing each one in it. It might've seemed a little silly, considering they weren't real; but Sophie adored each one and didn't want to risk them breaking.
She glanced at the clock, then her phone, then the clock again. He would be hear soon and then preparations would begin.

Bastion had actually arrived at Sophie's dorm a half an hour ago.
But he hadn't knocked. In fact, he'd been working on something in particular that he'd come up with after a night spent out next to his shrub, for the first time in days. So when he'd arrived, his work had only just begun. But a half an hour later, he'd finished his preparations, and was ready to knock on the door.
He didn't feel nervous. Should he feel nervous? He stopped and thought about it for a moment. Yes.. he knew there was so very much that could go wrong today. Then why didn't he feel the butterflies of insecurity fluttering in his stomach? It was unnerving, how comfortable - how happy he was to be doing this. It made little sense, so he simply decided not to try to decipher his emotions.
Instead, he knocked on the door. He was wearing nothing but a simple pair of black pants and his best set of boots. She'd requested the boots, and he knew the rest of his outfit was here, so he brought little else - except that which he'd used to prepare for this moment.
Should she open the door, Bastion would be standing there, empty handed. There was no bouquet, no more glass roses, just him, standing there waiting to be let in. But he was framed quite pretty in red - as her entire doorframe was now covered in perfect blooming red roses, on all four sides.

The knock came and she gave a bit of a jump, staring at it for a few seconds before she hurried over and pulled it open; a grin spreading across her features. A grin that slowly dwindled a small smile of curiousity; the ghoul blinking a few times at the sudden burst of colour surrounding Bastion. The smell drifted over her and she inhaled, leaning in to get the full scent. It took her a few seconds to notice the roses - she had assumed Bastion was responsible for it. She straightened and shifted past him, turning to look at the door and the dozens of beautiful roses surrounding it. This was unexpected and the grin returned.
Sophie all but tackled Bastion as she embraced him. All nerves had gone out the door - tonight was going to be a good night and she was beyond excited at this point. She loosened her grip around him; that uncanny zombie strength perhaps making a bit of an appearance, and looked up at him. "This is wonderful, Bastion," she plucked a rose from the wall and pressed the petals against her cheek, rubbing it softly before it was pressed up against her nose as she inhaled deeply. . She shifted a little; not wanting to leave what hard work he'd done, but time was ticking and there was still so much to do. Her hands came to his chest and she nudged him inside, kicking the door shut with her leg before she shuffled over to the dress model, standing in front of it. "Your outfit is finished. It should fit okay but I've left enough room for changes if I need to make them," she paused and fiddled. "If you don't like it, you don't have to wear it. I tried to think of you when I designed it but I might have gotten a little carried away.."
Then she stepped aside and revealed his prom outfit. She looked down sheepishly, a blush creeping across her cheeks.

"They requested it." Bastion stated simply, gesturing to the roses. "Truly, they did. I walked by the bush, and they asked me if I could reunite them with the loveliest of their kind. The Queen of Roses. So I merely did them the service." He bowed, with an exceptional flourish, but when he rose up, he was tackled and hugged with a force that he wasn't expecting. His lungs constricted and his vision swam. "Sophieee." He whined. "That's.. quite.. a grip.." He took several sharp breaths when she let him go, before walking inside. He expected the outfit to be complete, but when she moved away to show him it, his breath left him once more in a gush of surprise. He hadn't expected it to be so well-suited to him. In fact, if he were to be honest.. he wanted to wear it all the time. It was perfect. "Sophie.." He whispered out breathlessly, reaching one hand out to run across the feathers of the back. "It's.. it's.." He turned to look at her, his eyes wide and glassy. "I don't think I'm ever going to want to take it off."

She let out a sigh of relief. Once again the boil had washed away any worries she had and she couldn't help but beam, standing beside him as she admired her work. She was proud - it really was well done and she'd spent a good amount of time on it; it was a wonderful feeling knowing something she did was appreciated so much. Her hand ran down the sash that would drape across his chest; the fabric soft. She might have splurged a little and bought expensive fabric. She'd never been one to worry about material worth but for a brief moment she was glad her family had money.
"Will you try it on?" She asked, already taking the pieces of the mannequin. "Just so I know it fits." She paused and lifted the cape up, unfastening it at the neck where two snap buttons held it together. "Here, I'll help you." She practically forced herself upon him, positioning the cape and then clipping it together. She straightened it up, making sure everything was perfect and looked over it carefully; making sure nothing was out of place. Her hands brushed over his shoulders, smoothing the fabric. Yes, it looked quite nice. Then she grabbed the sash and she draped it over him before her arms came around him to tie it at the back. She stayed for a brief moment; her chest against his - feeling his heart beat. It was an odd sensation and she realised she was maybe acting a bit weird so she took a quick step back and took his hand, pulling him to the mirror and standing him in front of it.
"Tah dah!" She blinked for a few moments as she looked him over and let the image sink in. Boy, he looked good.

Bastion would have answered in the affirmative - in fact he lifted his finger to do just that - but she was already upon him, hands holding cloth against his skin, fastening them together, flattening them out against him. He went rigid, trying his very best to remain still and immobile while she put clothes on him. He was as unmoving as the dress model, but his expression was getting darker by the minute. He just waited, letting her work, and tried not to think about - about all of the things he was trying not to think about. But each moment was more difficult than the last. When she tied the sash around him, and rested there against his chest, he closed his eyes. "Sophie," He whispered, very carefully. She was gone before he said anything further, and he let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He pressed his hand to his chest, where the feeling of her remained. His eyes blinked opened when she pulled him to the mirror, and he saw a man standing there. He almost made to say something, but it was only a fraction of a second before he realized it was his reflection he was seeing. A strong, well dressed man. Not the man he usually saw in the mirror. But each second that passed let the image return to what he normally saw, hindered only by how exquisite her creation looked on his body. "You are a miracle worker." Bastion breathed out in awe.

Sophie circled him, eyes gazing up and down, taking him in in all his glory. She stopped in front of him, clasping her hands in front of her. She had expected him to look good but she hadn't expected him to look this good. If she had any breath for him to take away, he would've done so and she found herself becoming a little sheepish around him once more. What the Jack was he doing with a ghoul like her? She shook her head lightly and smiled up at him. "I just made the clothes. You made them look good." She reached out and brushed away a bit of thread that stuck to the sash; hand resting there for longer than was necessary.
She swallowed hard; feeling herself entering into dangerous territory. Her hand dropped to her side and she shifted awkwardly before quickly changing the subject. "I should try mine on, too, I suppose." She asked, quickly checking the time. Her frame brushed past him and she opened the door to her closet, removing the clothing bag and unzipping it, pulling the hanger out along with the clothes and transferring it to the handle where it hung nicely. Sophie was a little out of it - or maybe she was just excited about prom because it wasn't until her shirt was almost over her head that she realised Bastion was still in her room. Her arms came down as fast as lightning and she blushed furiously. "Ah. Just.. Turn around."

The air around them felt heavier, for a moment. Bastion couldn't tell if that was actually possible, but it was harder to breathe it in when he felt her hand resting on his chest. Everything felt heavier, and slower, and more important. When she pulled away, his eyes followed her, watching. Carefully. And then he registered what she was doing, and he snapped out of the heavy daze he was under. "Sophie, no." He flushed with color, startled at the very implication. "I cannot be here when you change. It would be an insult to your honor, one I would never be able to bear." He was already at the door, opening it, and refusing to look her way. "Take your time, my rose." He said, while staring pointedly up at the ceiling. "I will be here when you are ready." He closed the door in his own face, and then took several staggering breaths, slamming his back against the wall and clutching his racing heart.

Sophie was glad when he left.. Or at least she was glad when he offered to stand outside while she changed. She had told him to turn around because she thought it would've been rude to ask him to stand out in the hall. Luckily, he understood how to act in these situations. How did he know how to act in these situations? She thought it over for a few seconds before she glanced at the clock and realised time really was of the essence and began putting her outfit on. It didn't take her long and she stood in the mirror, smoothing over the fabric so everything sat perfectly.
Sophie had to admit she was quite pleased with the whole look. She clipped the little hat onto her head and then made her way to the door, opening it and presenting herself to Bastion. "Tah-dah!" She shifted a little shyly, stepping back a little so he could come inside. Was it too much? Did the colour not suit her? Maybe she should just pull out one of her dresses and wear that instead.. She fingered the hem of the skirt, a blush creeping over her cheeks. "Ah, " she fumbled. "I probably look silly. I should change. Everyone else will be wearing pretty dresses and..," she trailed off.

The time it took for Sophie to get dressed was just enough time for Bastion to collect himself, and calm down. Certainly he'd been put in an awkward situation there, and he knew he'd made the right decision, but there was no deciding what his thoughts flew off into when she'd started to undress. That was unfair, to ask of him to keep his thoughts pure at a time like that. It was for the best that he'd immediately left.
But when she opened the door to present herself to him, all his worries flew away. She was dressed thematically, with such flair and life that it brought a helpless grin to his face. Even her face was painted to match the look, making her nothing less than a work of art in his eyes. She immediately started to doubt herself, and he stepped in, ready to make himself useful.
"Don't you dare." He whispered down at her, still grinning. "You're the loveliest work of art I have ever seen. If you changed out of this charming outfit you've poured yourself into making, it will irresponsibly break my heart." He bent down, and kissed her forehead carefully.
"Please don't change. For me? You look gorgeous." He would have told her exactly which features looked specifically gorgeous, but he'd already pep talked himself out of being inappropriate, and was truly holding to his gentlemanly standards tonight.

Sophie froze as he came so close to her, lips brushing her forehead. She wanted to respond to the sweet things he was telling her, to tell him that she would stay in the outfit he seemed to appreciate but all she could focus on was the way his lips moved when he spoke; the way he grinned when he looked at her. Her heart might have skipped a beat if it wasn't for the fact that she was an undead. Her own lips felt hot and she wondered if his lips tasted differently today. Quickly, she sucked in a breath and stepped away from him. She bent down and rummaged in a bag, pulling out a square box.
She stood in front of him again and opened it, presenting an arm band in the shape of a coiling snake. "It's not as pretty as the necklace you made me..," she paused, a little self conscious. "Or the roses... But I just wanted to get you a present to thank you for everything.." She took the band out and closed the gap between them, looking up with a soft smile. Ah, there were those lips again.. 'Will you wear it?"

"A present?" Bastion stared at the band in her arms, his eyes wide with surprise. "For me?"It wasn't a typical reaction, for a man to be excited about jewelry and accessories. But Bastion made these things for a living. He appreciated them like no man could. And he appreciated Sophie's gift like no man should. He let out a high pitched sound, and nodded as if she'd just asked him to marry her. "It's.. it's wonderful. I adore it!" His arm shot out, vibrating with excitement. "Put it on me, let us see how it looks!"

Sophie clipped the band to his arm, making sure it was in the right position to stay still. She smiled up at him, glad that he seemed genuinely happy to be taking her to prom; that she seemed to be capable of making him forget whatever troubles he had, even if only for a few hours. And she was happy, too. Happy that she had found a companion who was patient with her - who didn't mind when she fumbled; who genuinely liked her - or at least appeared to. Eyes looked up at his face, the traces of insanity and the glowing of his eyes and then to his lips and the shape they made when he smiled.
A soft noise escaped parted lips and she closed the gap between them, hands resting on his chest. Her head angled upward slightly and she paused, eyes half lidded. "Bastion.. "

He turned his arm over and over, just to get a glimpse of every angle. "Just exquisite. You have wonderful taste, my.. rose." She'd come closer, and his words had faltered when her hands rested against the skin of his chest. A sharp breath had his ribcage rising, inhaling in surprise. The way she was looking at him made his heart stop. "Sophie." He whispered breathlessly, lips parted as if beckoning her with them. He wanted to kiss her. He wanted.. many things. It was so easy to forget all of the things that kept him from carrying her back into that room- "We'll be late." He managed. He always managed. He had to manage. Even if his words sounded more like please, he kept himself from leaning in and taking advantage of her beautiful, desirable offer. He wouldn't - couldn't do that to her. But he knew he also couldn't pull away.

Sophie let out an unnecessary sigh and rocked back on her heels. They were playing a dangerous game and it was only a matter of time until they both lost. She wanted to wait until then; sometimes - particularly when he was looking so.. wonderful - it was hard to resist and she lost herself. She cleared her throat and leaned up, lips brushing his cheek. "You're right," she turned and practically skipped to her closet, rummaging around for a small pink purse. In she put her skellyphone, a small pouch jingling with seeds, her keys, a camera and a few other things she deemed necessary.
"We definitely can't show up late," she said, stepping back to his side. "My brother is working security and I imagine he wouldn't be too happy about the reason for my tardiness..," she smiled sweetly as if she was joking. In reality, she had grown a sudden knot in her stomach when it occurred to her that there was no avoiding the situation tonight. Alex would see her. On a date. With a horseman. She swallowed hard. This would be.. Difficult. Turning, she crooked her arm. "Shall we?"
