Being a full hunter meant she wasn't sick...which meant Ofelia could spend time in the kitchens cooking and baking to her hearts content. Of course she could also do such things in the house she was currently trying to clean out, the one she was ignoring at the moment in favor of attempting to make a castle made entirely out of cake.

Originally she'd wanted to make a gingerbread house, seeing as she'd missed doing it at Christmas because of random things like forgetting all about it, and while looking through books about which type of house to build she'd found an image of a castle. A gingerbread castle didn't sound nearly as appealing as say, a cake one, and the redhead had changed her tactics into taking over much of the cafeteria with her project for the day. Anyone who wasn't willing to either lend a hand or cheer her on was politely directed to get the ******** out until she was complete.

So far all Ofelia had down as the base lines, an entire ground and moat system made out of cake and probably jello (because why not) and she was standing and staring at the plans with thoughts to what came next.

He didn't normally spend much time in the kitchens of Deus Ex Machina, mostly because he had his own little kitchen to spend time in, but on this particular day he had decided to see if he could find more supplies - namely cookie supplies that may or may not have been for a certain someone.

He hadn't exactly expected to find someone else there.

"Ofelia?"

Ofelia looked up at the sound of her name from where she was bent over a massively large mixing bowl. Her gray eye peered out at the person addressing her and for a moment Ofelia looked confused....and then mildly elated. "Gale~ Howdy."

About four bowls of various size sat in front of her, all sporting something in a different color and consistency. The floor around her looked like a war zone with ripped pages from books scattered about her shoes.....and several other things.

She had cake batter of different colors smeared on her cheeks, probably from pressing the back of her hand to her chin and face several times, and overall she looked both ridiculous and content. So basically she looked like Ofelia. "What brings ya inta these neck'a the woods? Ah thought ya had a kitchen'a yer own in yer house?" The redhead had been to Gale's house once so she didn't really get a say in things.

"Hey," said Gale, stepping further into the kitchen and glancing around curiously. He'd seen Ofelia on the ship, but that seemed like so long ago now, and it had not exactly been the most optimal of times.

"I was just, ah...taking a bit of a walk," said Gale, leaning against the door frame. "I have my own kitchen, but I don't exactly have a large amount of supplies, so I figured I'd come and see what I could gather from the kitchens to make some cookies."

He looked at the bowls and the paper. "What are you making?"

Gale wanted to bake cookies? Ofelia could get behind and fully support anyone who wished to bake and the creepy super happy grin on her face indicated it."Ahhhh, cool. If yer lookin' fer stuff Ah can give ya a hand wit' whatcha need. Any cookies in specific?" Ofelia hadn't answered the question yet about what she was doing as she moved away from her half-made project. She wore a smile on her face, a doofy one at that, and some of the papers were kicked away as she walked.

"An' Ah'm makin' a castle! Well, a cake castle." She motioned to the area. "Ah felt like tryin' mah hand at it, got nothin' better ta do." Ofelia bent down and grabbed one of the pieces of paper and showed Gale. It looked like something a child had drawn, all scribbly and ridiculous, but it had the basic idea that the redhead was serious and excited all at once. "When it gets done Ah wanna share it with some people....though it might go faster if ya wanna help me? We could chat an' stuff unless yer super busy an' need ta leave right off?"

They hadn't really talked since the boat and Ofelia was clearly in denial about some stuff in that. The whole killing of spiders wasn't so bad, she enjoyed all that because it was like a game and the ghost butlers were something cool out of a story but....the water. She had nearly drowned, it was a nightmare, and if she recalled correctly the last two people she'd properly spoken with were Gale and Stormy. She'd asked them not to let her die, neither had been there to save her but you know - it was okay. They probably were drowning too.

"Or Ah can help wit' the cookies if yer curious on whatcha need ta do." Maybe Ofelia was just lonely?

She was smiling at him, which confused him slightly, Gale stepping curiously into the kitchen, his head turning from side to side as though to try and figure out where all the proper ingredients were. "Ah..." he said, and his face was the tiniest bit pink. "Well, I was thinking just chocolate chip, really. Something simple and uncomplicated."

He wished his life were so similar. Gale's brows rose. "A cake castle?" he asked, reaching out to take the paper and examine it closely. He'd never even heard of such a thing before. Did children usually do this sort of thing? Granted, Ofelia wasn't a child, but maybe it was something she had learned to do growing up?

Gale was utterly fascinated. He coughed, trying to hide this, and handed the paper back to Ofelia. "I can help you, if you like," he said, making himself sound as deliberately casual as possible. "I'm not very good in the kitchen, but maybe I can help out with some things, y'know. Er. Handing you things and stuff."

He started to roll up his sleeves.

"So where do we start?"

Ofelia's loopy happy smile continued to be worn on her face as Gale stepped in and rolled up his sleeves in an offer to help. He was far more useful than the others she'd sent out earlier and so his presence in hers was more than acceptable and welcome. Moving aside so he could come closer she decided to explain a bit more about her idea. "Yup, cake castle. Ah was gonna make a gingerbread house on account'a Ah missed doin' it at Christmas but Ah f'gur Ah'mma go fer broke an' jus' make a castle." When Ofelia dreamed, she dreamed big. "Ah don't wanna do sommin' super complicated though, like a Ludwig caste wit' spires, so Ah was thinkin' maybe yer basic feudal era castle wit' the four hold towers an' maybe a keep in the center."

How Ofelia knew the difference between the castes was a mystery.

"Yer help is also very most welcome. Ah've never done this b'for so s'not like it can be horribly ruined or come out wrong. The main point'a doin' stuff in the kitchen is ta have fun while doin' it. Otherwise ya wasted yer time, yanno?" Some people took cooking as serious business. Ofelia felt like wasting food was a crime but anything else could be taken lightly. With a motion of her hand she directed Gale over towards where she had four thin baking pans set out and a bowl of chocolate batter resting in front of them. "Fer starters go 'head an' pour the batter inta the molds. Make sure the amount in each one is even 'cause those are gonna act like our outer walls."

She paused. "An', yanno, the only way ta get good in the kitchen is ta keep tryin'. S'the same wit' everythin' in life, like fightin' an' relationships - ya gotta keep tryin'." Another pause. "Speakin'a that, how's Pennies?"

Ofelia didn't imply anything, she just asked about Stormy. The redhead may have been dense about her own relationships, or many other things like personal space and common decency, but she occasionally took notice of the people around her.

He'd never even heard of a cake castle before, let alone made one, and the prospects were endless. Gale followed Ofelia around to the other side of the kitchen and picked up a bowl of batter, holding it carefully between his hands.

"I hope I can be of some help to you, then," he said, and very cautiously began to pour the batter.

It took him a moment to realize that Pennies = Stormy. Gale's face flushed a little, and he gave a small cough, the line of batter squiggling a little in the molds. "She's, ah, she's fine...well," he corrected himself. "She's as fine as can be expected, what with everything that just happened. I suppose for almost drowning and getting attacked by giant spider creatures, she's better than she should be."

He glanced over at Ofelia. "What about you? How are you doing?"
