The waters of the world were a dangerous and unusual place for the young seahorse, but curiosity gnawed and clawed at his tail, trying its damnedest to pull him from his safe ocean home to the open water without. For many nights and days, he lie awake on the cave floor or curled up beside his guardian, wishing for sleep and cursing the outside world for its siren's song, and the syrin's, too. It wasn't fair for the outside world to be so alluring in its cursed way! Was it such a sin for the young boy to swim out and about, looking for colourful little fish to follow or blow bubbles at, without the risk of being chomped up by a shark? A soft frown came to his brightly coloured face. This was the last straw! Today he would slip from his sheltered little home and discover the real world without!
Puffing out his cheeks, the little one dove back into his home, digging through his small collection of treasures to equip himself with a small mesh bag and a very sharp rock, sneaking quietly past his father to slip out into the world. At the edge of their little ocean hole, he paused, gills flexing as he glanced about, looking for some kind of threat, but the world was silent. From above, the sun was hardly a yellow smudge beyond the waves, as deep as the pair lived, and the waves seemed to barely sway around him. Swallowing thickly, the boy moved through the water with his fins on end, ready for any and all sorts of danger that might come his way.
Honey was tense enough in that water that all it took was a little guppy swimming across his vision for him to jump and gasp, swiftly jumping behind the nearest hunk of coral that sat beside him. The creature, for its part, didn't even seem to notice him, continuing on its merry, fishy way. Hesitantly, the seahorse let a little smile settle onto his lips, slowly extending himself from his hiding place. Nothing but a fish! And here he was jumping away like he'd been electrocuted. A little giggle passed the boys lips as he slipped into the open water yet again, his confidence gathering slowly as he started to explore, following bright little fish to their schools and peering into holes after little blue lobsters.
