The journey that Winter and Kiyoko had taken was long, made only longer by the small covered cart that wheeled along behind them, but they had finally arrived. Without the extra baggage and the additional company, it may have taken Winter a few days at most, but the companionship was worth it. Around them, the landscape had changed, from forests and fertile valleys to rock walls and snow-capped mountains, the environment growing hostile around them. Naturally, Winter refused to let such horrors go unpunished, pushing onward to the beautiful oasis that she had only heard about in the songs, a lovely, verdant place full of rivers and greenery.

The journey was reaching its end; she could feel it as they hiked up the steep path, Winter pulling the cart while Kiyoko pushed it, making certain that it would drag neither of them down the hill again. Bulky though it was, the cart was a necessity, for it hold pots upon pots of all manner of sprouts and seeds and sacks of food, all brought for the sake of starting their new life together. Winter's skin prickled just to think about it, a smile stealing onto her face yet again. After so much coercion, she'd finally lured her sky pink beauty out of her mother's clutches and into the big wide world, somewhere that the two of them could find their own humble home and romp around all night long without a lick of complaint.

No Vexus, no Mother, no sisters or strangers sticking their noses into our lives. The thought was sweet, enough so for the green-skinned naga to begin humming softly, craning her neck to see over the final swell of the hill, into the valley that spread beneath them. The sight took her breath away. Pausing for only a moment, she helped Kiyoko pull the cart and secure it on a plateau, rocks surrounding the wheels, before wrapping her arms about the slimmer female's waist and turning her toward the lush green fields that extended before them, crisscrossed with melodious little streams that led into a thick, lively forest. It was enough to make her head spin. With a gentle sigh, she rested her head onto her girlfriend's shoulder, leaving soft kisses along the curve of her neck. "Well, sweetling? What do you think -- was it worth the treacherous climb? Granted, we still have to get down, but it shouldn't take too terribly long."

Winter might have been delighted about this arduous journey, but Kiyoko certainly was not; at least, not about the journey part. In theory, the idea was paradise: journeying to a place of plenty with her lover, tending her flowers for a living and savoring the peace around them both. She hadn't foreseen all of the mountain climbing, though, or the bitter cold, or the utter darkness of the night when the campfire grew low. If it hadn't been for the verdant beauty by her side, Kiyoko wouldn't have been able to make it; then again, without Winter, she wouldn't be moving in the first place.

There was plenty of time to ponder this as she shoved their cart up the hill, using every bit of her feeble strength to keep it from escaping. It seemed like an eternity, but eventually they made it to the top. Panting, Kiyoko collapsed against the cart's side, and took a moment to collect herself before securing the cumbersome thing so it didn't start rolling away behind their backs. By the end she was so exhausted, she could barely appreciate the picturesque landscape Winter directed her towards. Their rosy tails intertwined affectionately, and Kiyoko let out a small happy noise at the warm, tingling kisses. "Maybe. We'll see how well the descent goes." Weariness aside, scaling the hill was a great accomplishment, and she let her head fall on top of Winter's in satisfaction.

Once they regained their strength, it was time to labor their way back down the hill. Kiyoko insisted that she be the one uphill of the monstrosity, which Winter agreed to, being the stronger one. Her delicate hands took a firm grip on the handle as they carefully levered the cart down the slope, and the tug of gravity almost overwhelmed her from the start. Gritting her teeth, she drove her coils into the soil, putting all her weight against the burden until it slowed to a reasonable pace. Winter was alongside the cart, holding it back from the sides. For a few minutes, it seemed that they would make it without incident, but then...

"Winter..." Fear was evident in Kiyoko's strained voice. "Winter, I- WInter, my hands are slipping, look out!" Her slender arms collapsed, seemingly of their own accord, and then the cart was rocketing down the stony hill, all their worldly possessions clattering dangerously within. "I'm sorry!" she wept helplessly, "I thought that I- Oh... Oh no!" Suddenly she only had eyes for the cart's path down the hill - and the purple child that sat in its way. "Hey, HEY!" KIyoko darted down after the thundering wagon, waving her arms like crazy. "Get out of the way, runaway cart, look out, look out!"

The day was pleasant and bright, and the young naga's heart was as light as the feathers he had gathered in his hands from today's excursions. The treasures he had chosen to procure today came in many colors and shapes as he followed the flights of fledglings and songbirds, picking up any feathers they left behind for his own collections. The smaller ones he cupped in his hands, while those large enough were fit behind his ears, making him appear like some bizarre avian-creature as he happily made his way along the path. It was barely even afternoon and already he had formed a sizable catch - surely he would have an impressive pile come nightfall.

With a grin, Notoriety set his cross-hairs on a bright blue bird, keeping a close eye as it hopped to and fro on the dirt trail. Crouching down in the grasses, he scrunched his shoulders as he had seen wildcats do and inched his way forward, shuffling his little body closer and closer to his unsuspecting prey. He waited a moment, held his breath, and pushed with all of his strength out onto the road, arms outstretched towards the bird just as it sensed something and fluttered away. He landed squarely in the road's middle, lying on his belly with no new feathers obtained. Sulking, he moved to sit himself up when he heard the sounds of shouting from up the hill along with the clattering of a cart.

As Noto turned his head towards the commotion, he got a full view of a terribly large cart barreling right at him. Heart pumping and eyes as wide as dinner plates, he scrambled out of the way on his stomach, rolling off to the edge of the road and scattering feathers every which way as the cart careened past him and moved on down the trail. Still trembling, he stretched out one hand to catch a feather as it lazily floated his way and clutched it to his chest. Tears quickly began to well up in his eyes as he lay down in the dirt, shaking and breathing raggedly from his near-death experience.
